Help, I need to get into my jeans - anyone want to join me for a September challenge?

Just put all my loose linen summer numbers in the loft and realised I'm bulging out of all the lovely jeans I planned to wear this autumn. Going away for half term so it would be great to be a size smaller by then.

I'm 5ft 7 and need to lose about 20lbs to be at my most comfortable, so not drastic, but enough that I'm feeling really lardy, and need to do something before I gain any more.

My plan is to eat healthily (using food focus website to keep me on straight and narrow..) - boiled egg and slice of toast with grilled mushrooms for breakfast (totally fills me up), then soup for lunch and something with veg for dinner. One treat meal at the weekend. 30 mins exercise a day (either running or exercise dvd)

Please come and join me, I'm hopeless when left to my own devices..!!

Hello,

I have been good since Tuesday - at least for me. I want to go and find a pair of scales but after three days that's a bit soon!

I have just had lentil soup and a small piece of bread for lunch from the canteen, and have a banana here to eat in a little bit. However, on the way out I did see a home-made three layer sponge with icing and blueberries (healthy eh?) all over the top. Please remind me why I need to be strong and should not just go haring back up there and buy a slice...

Will go and get some water and a lemon and ginger tea now - it's not hunger, it's FANCY.

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 14:20

Noooo Pumpkin stay strong. If you have the cake, its just a few seconds of taste then the rest of the day feeling bad and kicking yourself. Don't undo your hard work.
Was that reminder enough? Smile

Timba I'm at M&G near cannon st. I was lucky that I was able to have my flexi time request accepted. I had to change my role as there was no way I wanted to do what I was doing BC. Too many hrs and stress.

Good day today and I'm keeping up with the water. It makes such a difference to me.

Timbachick · 09/09/2010 14:43

Don't do it, pumpkin - as shaxx says - it's a momentary delight then the rest of the day beating yourself up. You have made such brilliant choices for your lunch it is not worth spoiling it now. Stay strong and think of how good you are going to look on the beach next year Grin

Shaxx - you are lucky to do flexi, it is a saving grace if you can get it. I remember a woman coming back to Chase after her second DS. Her husband was low paid so she needed to come back. She cried at her desk every day. It broke my heart. Her team couldn't/wouldn't let her do flexi thoughHmm

Have just had my usual ryvita/feta/apple combo for lunch ... am I getting fixated Confused

pumperspumpkin · 09/09/2010 14:55

Your lunch sounds delicious (and easy). I don't know too much about this but I gather feta is good then? Hurrah. I like feta.

I have so far been strong, thank you both for your encouragement. My room mate isn't here and I find it much easier not to snack when she's around. My hardest day will be tomorrow when I'm at home with the children and am used to foraging when they are not looking so may be on for support again!

(BTW - I'm just off Fleet St.)

hmc · 09/09/2010 18:53

I've managed to run out of food at home today (at least suitable food), so I've had to eat porridge for dinner!

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 09/09/2010 20:32

Woo hoo, I've lost another pound!!! Can finally feel that this weight is starting to shift, thank goodness for that! Smile I don't care if it takes ages, I just want rid of it.

I came to a realisation today. I will never ever be able to eat what I like (or even nearly what I would like) and be slim. This has to be a lifelong change or I will carry on doing this forever. I don't think my body will let me do it much more, so this has to be it.

Went running again this morning but think I need a rest day between runs as my energy levels were a bit low. May do a pilates workout instead tomorrow.

I love feta too - baked on portabello mushrooms it's delicious and quite filling!

Hope everyone has had a good day!

Well done fruitshoot - how many is that then so far?

Timbachick · 09/09/2010 21:40

Evening All. Smile

pumpkin - feta is a better choice, I think. It is less in saturated fat than cheddar etc. I love it 'cos it is slightly tart.

hmc - well done for making a =n excellent choice in difficult circumstances. It is sooooo easy to reach for the convenient stuff when you've run out.

fruity - well done. Another lb in the right direction. You are on track. Excellent news.

I have just had 2 slices of rye bread and a big bowl of homemade veggie soup. It was really tasty but sadluy it was the last bowl Sad so now I have to make more Grin

I hope everyone has had a great day.

I am off to my new job for half an hour tomorrow to meet the staff and sign contracts Grin ... am stupidly excited GrinGrin

theQuibbler · 09/09/2010 21:49

Evening all - just dropping to see how everything is and I see fruitshoot is doing great! Well done, you. Smile

Had a bit of a rubbish day in that I was stuck in meetings and working late, and didn't have time to eat properly. Then, I just got so hungry, I overate the minute I got near food, because I was starving. And the lesson is: do a bit of planning, so that I've got some snacks available, if necessary, to avoid that scenario.

Weigh in tomorrow for me, , I tell you knowing that I've got to post something here has really kept me on track!

theQuibbler · 09/09/2010 21:52

Oh and good luck for tomorrow timbachick - it is exciting . Smile

VivaLeBeaver · 09/09/2010 22:40

Well I tried the marmite rice cakes, nicer than the other rice cakes but still not keen.

I've been good with my main meals today but was busy on the ward at wok and didn't get to eat till late this evening. There was an open tin of chocolates on the midwives' station and I think I had about 4 or 5!

VivaLeBeaver · 09/09/2010 22:42

HMC - Alli are weight loss aid supplements. Basicly they help stop fat being absorbed. But if you eat too much fat while taking them you shit yourself!

Timbachick · 09/09/2010 23:04

Viva - Pmsl - "But if you eat too much fat while taking them you shit yourself!".

Am sat here giggling away to myself.

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 23:06

Good luck Timba!

Quibbler I'm exactly the same. If I plan and drink lots of water, I'm ok.

Viva Lol. Please make sure you stay away from the fat!

Fruity, if its of any help, all the slim people who eat what they want, don't actually gorge themselves on junk. They actually don't want to eat tonnes of cakes and biscuits! My sister is one of those (a 2 yr old, a 5mnth old and back into her size 10's!). She does eat cakes and is a chocoholic but her calories for a day do average out to about 1600-1800 and she never binges like I do.

Good luck for tomorrow,

shortandsweet2 · 10/09/2010 07:46

Morning everyone, well done on the loss fruitshoot and good luck today Timba.

I have lost a half a pound this week which is really surprising as I haven't been great.

I have made a huge pot of soup so will be snacking on that over the weekend.

Timbachick · 10/09/2010 08:40

Hey, morning sweety - well done on that half pound. All weight off is weight going in the right direction. Fab news.

Soup is a real good choice, especially if it is home made and you know what has gone in it.

I am off for my power walk in 40 minutes or so, then home and sorted for my visit to work. Sadly, I then have ironing to do...urgh Sad The ironing fairies never seem to visit me ... nor do the cleaning fairies, the cooking fairies .............. Grin

Hope everyone has a great day today Grin

theQuibbler · 10/09/2010 09:10

Hello all.

Well done shortandsweet, as timbachick says, you're going in the right direction.

So, one week in and I've lost 6lbs. Yay. Most of that is water weight, but it's still motivating to see the numbers going down. Smile

I'm going to a dance class tonight. Shock I thought it would be good (I used to dance, only for fun, though) but have not have dared to do it for the last few years, and so why not, eh? If I can't keep up or don't like it, then I can just leave .

Imissmyjeans · 10/09/2010 09:19

Morning all

Well I had my first weight in today and was delighted to have lost 2lb!Part of me did regret my day of indulgence yesterday helping my brother celebrate this birthday as otherwise I may have lost even more.

However, I have telling myself I should just concentrate on the positives, that if I stick to the diet 80% of the time, I can still lose weight.

Shaxx Totally agree with your comments regarding naturally slim people. I remember years ago staying with a friend who has always been very skinny and being surprised when she pulled out a funsize bar of chocolate to have with her cup of tea. TBH up until that time I had thought funsize bars of chocolate were only for kids and I could easily have ate 3 or 4 at one time.

I had a sudden realization that this was why my friend was always very slim and that I probably did eat lots more calories than her without realizing it.

I am now a big fan of funsize bars!

hmc · 10/09/2010 09:23

Morning

Timba - hope your meet and greet at work goes well today

Viva - well I did ask! Sounds like Alli is not for the faint hearted Shock

Sweety and theQuibbler - well done on the weight losses. We all seem to be doing just fine Smile.

I had my weigh in this morning. 1.5 lbs which I am pleased with since I only really started properly on Monday, so that represents 4 days of dieting. Decided to move weigh day to Fridays rather than Mondays though, since I intend to relax a little over the weekends!

Agree with Shaxx that naturally slim people tend to have a good relationship with food. My close friend who is slim and apparently effortlessly so, will eat biscuits, cakes etc and deny herself nothing - she just naturally prefers small portions. She will eat just 4 small cubes of chocolate and be perfectly satisified - it is not that she is denying herself more, she just doesn't fancy it. Also I've noticed that when she is down or upset, she never comforts herself with food like I do. It just doesn't occur to her. Cowbag! Grin

I am enjoying this thread - makes a lovely change from arguing with people on AIBU!!

hmc · 10/09/2010 09:24

Well done Imissmyjeans - I was still writing my post when you posted so didn't spot your weight loss to begin with!

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 10/09/2010 10:34

Well done everyone, especially Quibbler. 6lbs is absolutely amazing!!

I am doing the happy dance this morning as I'm another pound down - now up to 3.5lbs since the beginning of the month. I'm hoping it will be slow but steady. Waistbands still tight but hopefully they won't be by the end of the month. I'm just so pleased it's finally going in the right direction.

Birthday party this afternoon and then lots of visitors this weekend so will need willpower of steel to get through it. Grin

Hello,

So far today I've had Weetabix, fruit, a laughing cow light sandwich and a yoghurt. (And a biscuit at playgroup which as per instructions I ate slowly.) Not bad for a day at home with the children when normally I'm going for the cupboards. And most proud of myself for having gone to the supermarket this morning and swanned past the biscuits/confectionery aisle loftily thinking to myself "I'm better than that".

I went out last night and completely blew the day on a curry but don't feel too bad about that as I know I'd been v sensible the rest of yesterday and now today, so feel like I've balanced it out in a way I wouldn't have done last week, say.

Timbachick · 10/09/2010 15:15

Wow - fab news everyone. So many great losses. Quibbler, Imissmy - you deserve your losses for all the hard work you have put in. It is great to see the scales going in the other direction.

My meet and greet went well, thanks. They are a really friendly bunch and, tbh, it is more like joining a family that a work crew. Am looking forward to Monday. Grin.

I'm afraid to say I had: ryvita, feta and an aplle for lunch .... again. Shock It is so easy to grab and quite good on the health and calorie side. I think I may need to find a few more options though ... ideas anyone?

swanriver · 10/09/2010 19:35

Hello, I was on a thread a while back which seemed to work, so starting again, posting what I eat, so as to lose another few pounds. My start weight is 65 kilos, I would like to get down to 62 kg and I'm 5ft 10" (not sure of metric) Today I've had such a weird muddle of things it would probably horrify you (including rather a lot of onion bhajis) so I think I'm starting writing down things tomorrow!!!!

Algebra18MinusPiEquals16 · 10/09/2010 20:01

hello all :)
just to let you know I won't be around much in the next few days. DH finally off work, and my parents visiting too.
it's been... mostly ok. have stocked the cupboards with healthy stuff and I'm doing more walking.
xx
