Help, I need to get into my jeans - anyone want to join me for a September challenge?

Just put all my loose linen summer numbers in the loft and realised I'm bulging out of all the lovely jeans I planned to wear this autumn. Going away for half term so it would be great to be a size smaller by then.

I'm 5ft 7 and need to lose about 20lbs to be at my most comfortable, so not drastic, but enough that I'm feeling really lardy, and need to do something before I gain any more.

My plan is to eat healthily (using food focus website to keep me on straight and narrow..) - boiled egg and slice of toast with grilled mushrooms for breakfast (totally fills me up), then soup for lunch and something with veg for dinner. One treat meal at the weekend. 30 mins exercise a day (either running or exercise dvd)

Please come and join me, I'm hopeless when left to my own devices..!!

Great idea to up the veg. I always feel better if I've had a good amount of veg and fruit in a day.

Well I feel like a new woman today. I've just been out and got my eyebrows done and my hair washed, cut and blow dried!
I think when you take time out for yourself like that, it gives ou such a boost. I feel really positive about diet and exercise now too.

Todays food
shreddies, banana
innocent pot, plum
small bit of shepherds pie, green beans.

Timbachick · 26/09/2010 16:33

swany - well done on avoiding that cornetto and for getting out for a job.

shaxx - you sound gorgeous Grin - not that you aren't anyway Grin Grin but it does make a difference when you have taken care of yourself outside...the inside seems to follow.

viva - lol of "pleasant in your house tonight". Glad it's not just me that is affected like that then ... hahaha

Shaxx · 26/09/2010 16:40

Thanks Timba Grin
I do try but you know what its like, us mums always end up sacrificing our 'me' time for something else. My hair was looking terrible.

How was your day?

swanriver · 26/09/2010 17:36

I have lit the fire to burn any methane!
Shocked at these aspersions - my digestion is excellent, years of cabbage eating has hardened me.

Shaxx very good idea

One small homemade butterless scone, three figs from the garden, two cups of tea.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/09/2010 17:42

Well today has been a protein focused day!

Had my grill up for breakfast. Followed by a bananna and mullerlight mid morning.

Lunch was an omlette and salad.

Was naughty and had a flake mid afternoon - oops.

Dinner is grilled chicken breast, potato waffles x2 and sweetcorn.

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 26/09/2010 20:32

Nice work viva!! Smile

I went for a run yesterday and today, but had a big takeaway curry last night so needed to. Managed to resist the naan bread, but it was sooooo difficult!!!

Eaten healthily today - fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, veg soup and oatcakes for lunch and jacket potato and salad for dinner. Flap jack as a treat. Yum.

Haven't weighed myself since last week but think I have PMS bloat so it might not be great. Am trying to lose one more pound this week to get to half a stone..

swanriver · 27/09/2010 09:49

well done Viva hope you managed
Dh cooked pad thai for supper again, so I had small portion of that (which no doubt was super fattening) more cabbage, and then was consumed by cravings for pickled herring, so had that too???? but no sour cream!

Dh seems determined to keep me fat - he keeps offering me things which he knows are not part of diet, like wine, croissants, cider, cakes, bars of choc, whipped cream..anyone experienced this phenomenon(sp?)

swanriver · 27/09/2010 15:51

how is everyone doing today?
feeling very peckish now, after healthy low fat lunch - potatoes, tomato, bit of herring
have eaten one piece of plain bread, and resisting all the snacks I have bought ravenous dcs for after school.
cuppa of tea now I think!
I am holding out till 7.00 pm come hell or highwater only apple from now on.

supper will be pasta with smoked salmon, cream and herbs and leeks on side, kids are having spare ribs and potatoes or rice

swanriver · 27/09/2010 15:52

and have had a brisk walk to shop for food.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/09/2010 17:39

I've had a rubbish day today. Started a new uni course so stressed, up at the crack of dawn for a 2 hour drive to uni, etc.

2 weetabix
Bacon butty mid morning. Blush
Pineapple chunks, ham roll, curly wurly.
Pack of fruit and nut mix, also not very good.

Going to have an Innocent pot for dinner in some sort of attempt to redeem myself.

swanriver · 27/09/2010 21:39

Viva two hours Shock that sounds awful, not surprised you needed a pickmeup. Fruit and nut mix sounds good as a snack too.

Have you thought of having a big bowl of porridge with fruit for breakfast before you start - it does help get through the morning, and then you could have the bacon sandwich for lunch with lots of salad and fruit, and then a healthy snack mid afternoon and a proper portion of supper, veg, carbs and protein, just not overdoing the extras (ie: less butter, cheese, pastry if these are part of meal) And no chocolate except for low fat cocoa drinks, or a piece of dark choc occasionally.

It really did work for me knowing I was going to eat a proper meal three times a day, just slightly adjusting what I ate from that meal - not putting loads of butter on things, or cream on puddings, eating one piece of bread not three. Anyway that's my happennysworth from losing weight in past years.

And if every time I was desperate for bread and butter I had a banana, that helped too, because whatever the calorific value of a banana, it somehow stopped me craving even more calorific cakey things.

swanriver · 28/09/2010 09:28

felt v. hungry this morning - a good sign
breakfast 3 pieces of plain brown sliced bread
cocoa with milk
black tea

midmorning snack apple
lunch - cold lamb, boiled potato, tomato, banana, water

VivaLeBeaver · 28/09/2010 10:19

Swanriver - porridge sounds a good idea. I'll get some in.

I had another "grill up" today for breakfast - mushrooms, bacon and eggs. Going to have a mullerlight in a minute. Just got in from an hour's brisk walking and need something!

Lunch is going to be a bit of a rush so will probaby have a fishfinger sandwich. Then will have an Innocent pot for dinner tonight.

swanriver · 29/09/2010 09:36

Toast and jam for breakfast
smoked salmon and boiled egg for lunch with green beans
snack - toast
supper veg soup with seed bread

feeling completely shattered this morning don't know why?

VivaLeBeaver · 29/09/2010 10:29

Mmmmm, I'm wanting smoked salmon now!

Are you drinking enough, could be why you're tired if you're not.

I've finally found a flavour of rice cakes that I like - sea salt and balsamic vinegar. So have bought some of those to munch on, will try to wean myself off my cereal bar addiction as these are lower calories.

Shaxx · 29/09/2010 11:14

I'm feeling quite tired too!
Would love to just get back into bed now.

I had cereal and banana for breakfast.
apple
soup and sandwich
innocent pot.

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 29/09/2010 12:55

Ooh just discovered those Innocent pots. yum yum yum!! My ready meal veggie and wheat-free prayers have been answered!! Grin

In a final push to get rid of some weight I jogged to pilates this morning and then did the work out and jogged home. Am feeling very virtuous.

How is everyone else doing? We should have some sort of end of month round-up - total weight loss. Mine looks likely to be 6lbs, not as much as hoped but I'm still pleased that it's gone in the right direction.

OP posts:
swanriver · 29/09/2010 22:05

I seemed to do lots of brisk walking and running today (late Blush for various things) and it has made me feel much less tired Confused strangely enough

Food was not quite as I'd planned,
lunch was smoked salmon and half a cheese toastie, three figs from the tree, and an orange
supper was green beans cooked in oil and onion, haddock, half a potato, cocoa with a sugar lump and a bit of milk, and some raspberries

Bought some new scales, but they do not seem to work, I think something wrong with my floors which are v. uneven [blames floors Hmm I know I am not 13 stone! Shock
Will wait till Fridayfor final verdict Grin

6Ibs is pretty good Fruit - even Ib a month would be 12 Ibs lost in a year..imagine that in the scheme of things.

swanriver · 30/09/2010 13:00

breakfast, pumpernickel butter and jam, tea
lunch, two bananas, tiny piece of cheddar, piece of cold fish, cold boiled potato, tomato, tea, water

supper?

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 30/09/2010 19:27

Where is everyone? It's gone very quiet on here, report back please!!!

My final loss was 6lbs for the month. Going to try and do the same again next month. Would be up for another thread if anyone wants to join in Smile

OP posts:
Timbachick · 30/09/2010 21:13

Hello Everyone, have been busy with RL. Sorry to have been quiet.

Been finishing the last of the school visits and working and just crashing at the end of the day Sad. Sorry guys.

Its been a middling week for me food wise. A bit hit and miss. Overall for the month I am down about 6kg so am very very happy.

fruity - are you going to start another thread for October? A "scare the pounds away" halloween weight loss thread????

How is everyone else today?

swanriver · 30/09/2010 23:08

I've walked about two miles today
visited CVMS today Timba wondered if anyone in my group was you...
absolutely shattered by school visits, and a bit depressed tbh by the difference between the posh ones and the not so posh ones.

Tra la - not going to listen to any speeches any more Grin

had to eat
several slices of brown pitta toast with butter when came in this eve with tired hungry kids, and
some pea tortelloni, and
2 more bananas, and
some smoothie
several glasses of water

Timbachick · 01/10/2010 08:52

Hey swany - I think Imust have been sitting next to you for the Deputy Head's talk ... a really really lovely lady was talking tome and my DH and DS ... I am sur eit was you 'cos I think you're sooooooooo lovely Grin

What did you think of it? The Dep Head was a bit of a stereotype wasn't he? "Unadorned truth" and all that Confused

Must admit, we liked the school. It has the history and the past /present record to prove it's ability and I am sure the teachers are all top-notch as they would be able to attract the best. Agree with the "no jewelry (sp),no shaven heads, designs in hair etc" aspect, and the teacher/pupil/parent pact. Not sure that I want to pass them TOTAL rights to the disciplining of my DS - although he did say they would accept a shouty parent but would be happy to discuss the discipline (if it arose).

Come on swany - tell me what you thought. Grin

Timbachick · 01/10/2010 08:53

Dear Lord - sorry about my terrible typing!!!!

Think I must need more caffeine ... off for another shot now ... back in a mo .... Grin

Timbachick · 01/10/2010 08:54

And I meant "wouldn't accept a shouty parent"

Drinking coffee as I type ....
