So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Nikki,
call in an EE day (Ketchup, butter & light mayo as syns)Cheddar as HE
Just dont have any more bread or syn it of you do.
And make sure you have plenty of superfree veg and fruit.
Looks like enough of it in the stirfry.

DontCallMeBaby · 07/10/2010 17:48

Desire, you are starting off very close to where I started - I am an inch taller than you, and four weeks ago weighed a pound less. I now weigh 10.5lb less. :) And I haven't had a single week when I've averaged 15 or fewer syns a day ... I always have half a mind to the calories, maybe having something a bit synny rather than something free, if the free is actually higher in calories (eg four plain chocolate Mikado sticks at 40 calories in total rather than a Muller Light at 100-odd).

And I've been doing exercise of some description six days a week, which I really shouldn't forget!

Melty · 07/10/2010 18:16

Thats good advice Dontcallmebaby. (By the way have you any idea how difficult it is to type your name without spacing!!)

I only repeated the mantra our consultant would repeat every week. She reckoned that if we stuck to 10, and we had a bit of a blowout fall off the wagon day, it would all average out over the week.
And well done on your losses. 10.5 lbs is great over 4 weeks. Just think in another 4 weeks, you will be 20lbs lighter than when you started. Thats a toddler! And it will really show on you as you are only 5.4.
I am 5'9 and the only thing I can tell so far is today my (newish) knickers would not stay up! (and my work trousers have a baggy bum)

Lulumaam · 07/10/2010 20:37

hi everyone, hope you're all doing ok ! so many people now, it's hard to keep up, but hope everyone is doing ok

have had another hard couple of days, desperate for sweet stuff.. had a handful of mini caramel snack a jacks and some fat free yoghurt with sweetener and an apple..

have had no alcohol for over a week now, which i think is a two fold bonus, i can save syns for soemthign else and am less liekyl to want to eat more as alcohol makes me want to eat savoury snacks

tonight was my good old standby, boiled potatoes sauteed in frylight with 2 turkey rashers and an egg for tea. lunch was lsat night's left over SW chicken curry and boiled rice

i hope i'll have lost two lbs by weigh in on monday, as that will be a stone off in 4 weeks.

findingtheRialme · 07/10/2010 22:39

that is very sensible advice from your consultant Melty, have never considered it that way.

DS2 ill now, poor boy sounds like he's had an awful day at school but was determined to stay there (he loves school and has told me he will be better for tomorrow - I expect a battle in the morning), his teacher rang us at 3.15, she didn't think he would manage the after school club he goes to on Thursdays

not much in the way of proper meals tonight I'm afraid, DS3 is most disgusted that his brother is getting more stroking of fevered feet and more of the sofa than he is today.

DontCallMeBaby · 07/10/2010 23:10

Melty, alas, I have every idea how difficult it is to type my name - the lack of apostrophe particularly makes me twitch. :o I answer to DCMB. And all sorts of other things, for that matter. Find it slightly unnerving being addressed as Baby though, which has happened a few times.

I love the idea of losing a toddler's worth of weight! I will have to find someone with an appropriately sized child to eye up.

ditavonteesed · 08/10/2010 07:30

morning all, saying about drink,I haven't had a drink for over a week and then it was 2 glasses of wine, not sure what I think of sobriaty, dh says I am grumpier. Grin
am so looking forward to this weedding tom, my best mate is comeing round to look after the dc and we are staying in a hotel (alright a travel lodge but no kids nto wake us up so who cares)have managed to save virtually a days worth of points so hopefully the impact won't be too bad.

Hav enot been myself all week, not sure why though (maybe the sobriaty again) and been trying to comfort eat, managed to stay within points though, a packet of crisps rather than a mukti pack.
am just writing an instruction manual for best mate, she not only has the kids but the puppy, the cats and the chgickens, bless her.

desiretochange · 08/10/2010 09:32

Morning, wow DCMB that is fantastic weight loss:)
Busy enough evening yesterday so didn't get proper chance to read through book so to give myself a start I have printed off suggested weeks menu from SW site and am going to work on that this week. Only thing is didn't have poached egg this morning because I made a total mess of it Blush

desiretochange · 08/10/2010 10:26

Bought raspberries on my way into work to eat as SW site suggested, just opened them up and they are flipping blue moulded:( great start for me today:)

findingtheRialme · 08/10/2010 10:30

morning all. 2lb gain for me, but I'm not surprised. It will come off again. Maybe I need new scales which are a little more precise, as it seems to jump in 2lb intervals (or more) most times.

Am Envy of a wedding dita, I have a weekend of poorly children and essay writing to look forward to, while the housework lurks in every corner laughing at meSad I fear wine may be my friend by Sunday night...

findingtheRialme · 08/10/2010 10:30

arse about the raspberries desire. annoy8ing that isn't it.

desiretochange · 08/10/2010 11:03

Definitely is arse finding, not a huge fan of raspberries but determined to shift weight so was prepared to munch away at them!

DontCallMeBaby · 08/10/2010 15:40

I actually have NO WINE in the house. This does make me slightly uneasy ... I have an Ocado order coming this evening, but still no wine. I shall have to get some in, the winerack looks utterly tragic.

We are having a literary weekend, two literature festival eents for DD tomorrow (accompanied by me to one of them, me or DH to the other) and three for me. Plus brunch after swimming ('free' egg and bacon for me, which I pretend is not swimming in grease really, plus ONE slice of toast, unbuttered) and some sort of early dinner in town (Pizza Express would be handy, just how bad can a chicken salad be?)

Desire I find fruit often acquires blue fluff around here, but not the day I buy it, that is bad! I have some blueberries coming with the shop this evening, which I'm quite partial to.

desiretochange · 08/10/2010 15:57

Didn't want to risk it DCMB, they were fluffy but didn't look edible! Had mixed fruit with my lunch of baked potato, beans and coleslaw and bowels seem to be working overtime Wink

findingtheRialme · 08/10/2010 17:39

weekend sounds good DCMB.

can't believe it but I am burning up and feeling rubbish againSad

ditavonteesed · 09/10/2010 07:33

Sad thats is uber pants rial.

OMG I had half a bottle of wine last night and I was plastered. now a little bit worried about later, ended up buying myself a new dress, I tried on everything in my wardrober and after squeezing myself into the tenth dress that I couldn't breatrh in I decided I had to. can't even get my magic knickers on (spanx) mind you I think they are a 12. certainly couldln't havre eaten in them.

mate has just told me about a night out in 7 weeks, now that has the potential to be a stone doesn't it. that'd be good.

motivation is high although not going to think about it today, just going to make the best choices I can while still enjoying myself.
going to work on increasing activity from mon have let that slide a little bit.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/10/2010 08:39

Oh dear Rial, hope you feel better very soon. This is what happens when you have children, back to school in September then the illness starts, flipping nightmare.

Dita have a fabulous time tonight. Quite a menagerie you have, I've drawn the line at chickens ! I'm impressed you can get a size 12 beyond your ankles, that is great in my book.

We've had a dreadful week with DD, tears every evening over friends and the 3 years of orthodontic work she's just committed to don't really help. For the first time ever I had moments of not wanting to eat which is a completely new one on me as I usually want to stuff my face at these moments. Today I'm going for the calorie loss through exercise approach and we're sanding the hallway so demon dog can't coat the carpet in mud. Not much progress yet though as DH and I haven't got up yet and Jewsons opened 40 minutes ago. We're just enjoying a dog free morning as she's staying somewhere else until tomorrow when she'll be back to create further havoc !

Melty · 09/10/2010 09:57

Rial, hope you feel better soon.
Dita sometimes you have to shop. Smile
Wynken, your poor DD, those teenage years are awful, and image is everything. She will get through it. My friends DD is 16, and had her braces removed a couple of months ago. She has a beautiful smile now, so it will be worth it in the end.

I am currently in a quandry. The healthy eating is going ok. I weighed myself again today (2 days early), and am now down 11.5 lbs.
Yay.
Except I have nothing that fits. Cant afford to by anything new. And what size would I be anyway? My 18 trousers are so loose they fall down. I can slide them down without opening. Its really not suitable for work. Looks too messy.
I went through my wardrobe this morning and found 2 pairs of trousers that fit. (Both 18, maybe a "proper" 18?)
I have a few size 16 trousers and skirts that are still too tight. I can close them, but have huge muffin top, so not wearable.
And I have about 40 size 14 trousers skirts dresses and suits. (Clearly went bonkers when I got to size 14 before)
Am so very frustrated.

findingtheRialme · 09/10/2010 11:07

I understand your clothing quandry. I have trousers that I have no need to undo (infact, cannot carry sleeping children upstairs for fear of precipitous trousers tripping me up), but cannot wear the next size down as unsightly overhangBlush (though I suppose I should have a try-on session, just to checkWink). Luckily I have no job so have no need to look presentable! I do need to shop for jumpers this week though. My problem re sizing is my embarrassing charity shop habit, so I don't think any of the sizes are "true".

Am feeling much better this morning (thankfully), much cheered by a letter from the hospital - DH is having his next operation in 2 weeks, and so will be having half term offGrin. We can go to goth weekendGrin, and next week is wartime weekend... I love OctoberSmile

Happy weekend everyoneSmile

(BTW, chickens freak me out - childhood memories!)

Lulumaam · 09/10/2010 13:26

ria, that's great !

wynken, i am sorry you've had a shitty week

hope everyone else doing well!!

i have lost almost a stone. can definitely feel it and see it. my clothes feel looser. DH says my bum looks and feels smaller Grin

i have a whole range of sizes of clothes in my wardrobe and some definitely fitting better now

i bought a top in the summer that i am wearing today as it looks sooo much better, it's like a sleeveless tie dye tunic, it just looked awful over my hips before, now i can see and feel it looks so much better, although now too big on top. am wearing it over a tight black T and 100 denier tights with biker boots.

discovered a new twist on my usual potato/egg based lunch.. had button mushrooms, sliced boiled potatoes, egg all fried in fry light and then 28g of low fat grated cheese over which melted and crisped up over the food.. it was divine !

upsydaisysexstylist · 09/10/2010 16:42

Ahh the clothes quandry, I opted for £4 jeans from ASDA, but they are too big already and am too tight to buy more as my size 18 things do up but look terrible. Am hoping the next half stone off will fix this.

Wouold post DP dress but can't to copy on this laptop without mouse.

Lulumaam · 09/10/2010 18:39

My friend from SW told me about syn free crisps - free on extra easy and green

thinly slice a large potato, spray a nonstick baking tray with ffrylight, put the slices on there, spray with more frylight and sprinkle with garlic or rock salt.

hot oven until brown and crisp, et voila !!!

syn free crisps.. they taste potatoe-y and oily enough to be satisfying

DontCallMeBaby · 09/10/2010 22:22

I'm trying not to be too excited about buying size 14 trousers today ... the last time I had a pair of size 14 trousers I was two stone lighter than I am now, so the sizing is clearly weird. And I forgot to see if they had a short length to try on, so have bought regular and will curse myself every time they scrape on the floor.

Very nice otherwise.

Effectively day off today - I had pollo a la Milanese, a glass of wine and panna cotta in Strada, no point in even trying to count syns in that! Back to normal tomorrow.

upsydaisysexstylist · 10/10/2010 09:21

Agree sizes are rather strange, but am even more confused by the sizes of people in the magazine. There are women half a stone less than me and the same height 3 dress sizes bigger. I did wonder if it was because I've always walked a lot or just shop at shops with big sizes - dorothy perkins anyone.

We have had a budget week with Booth's 3 for £10 meats, 3 mince meals, roast chicken, chicken soup and today pork loin steaks which are having the fat chooped off and being cooked with cannellini beans and root vegand maybe tumeric, cumin and paprika.

Lulumaam · 10/10/2010 09:47

yes, sizing is really odd.. i think sizes are bigger now than 10 - 20 years ago, so a 14 today is maybe a 16 10 - 20 years ago?

will try some of the asda jeans.. i need some straight leg jeans
