Does anyone else feel too big at that weight?

OP posts:
Pookimum · 18/08/2010 10:02

I am just under 5 foot 4 and would feel big at 8.5 stone. I weighed 8.75 after DD was born 6 months ago and have just got back down to my pre-preg. weight of 8 stone, but I feel bigger than before, still have a muffin top and can't get into a some of my old jeans.

I think it all depends on your frame, mine is very small but even at 8 stone I have plenty of curves and am 30F bra size and size 8 to 10 depending on the shop. Also your shape, I only seem to gain weight around my middle so even at 8.5 stone I have a spare tire, I never get bigger on the hips and bum, just end up with rolls around my middle and then can't buy clothes to fit.

Nappyadict I completely understand your friend, I weigh 8 stone yet and still wearing my "fat clothes" to cover the muffin top!

xkaylax · 18/08/2010 10:09

I am 5'3 and my weight is 8.5st sometimes i think im big others I dont, my partner thinks im mad.
However after i had my ds and stopped breastfeeding after a year I lost loads of weight not through doing anything it just happened and went to just over 7st and my face was gaunt, my family were worried and i looked ill so i defintely wouldnt want to be that weight again. I just want to tone up a bit really Grin

But I defintely wouldnt say 8.5 is fat it just isnt .

piratecat · 18/08/2010 10:12

when i was 14 i was that!

i am about 10 1/2, and ok with how i look.

ValiumSingleton · 18/08/2010 10:13

I think some women feel revolted by their own bodies if they aren't magazine thin. the actually need to feel thin to feel OK.

Any tiny amount of flesh will make them feel 'big' and uncomfortable.

beckie90 · 18/08/2010 10:24

some women do, as long as they havent got a problem whats wrong with somedays thinking oo i look abit wobbly, i am pregnant and at the mo am getting water retention, thats y i sometimes feel huge, also i am 8 stone, but i do have fat on my body alot of people might find that hard to believe but i actually have a bum and legs but its more fat then muscle so i need toning up. i am a naturally skinny girl, and this is the heaviest ive weighd apart from being heavly pregnant previously, and was 8 and half stone after pregnancy, i use to weigh no more than 7 and a half. i eat what i want when i want probably eat alot more than other people. ive only just turned 20 and every other person i know, has days like this and there not pregnant. im not out of the normal

wouldlikemoresleepplease · 18/08/2010 10:31

Agree with a lot of posts on here about it all depending on your frame.

I am 5ft and weigh roughly 8.4 stone Blush I feel huge because I have curves anyway (similar to Pookimum measurements lol) plus any weight that I have gained goes on my stomach and arms.

I lost loads of weight last year, I was about 7.7 stone and happy with it. I thought I looked ok with it because I am quite short but then the biscuit monster made me put on loads of weight. I know I need to exercise, but when can I find time?!

Maybe this will help:

Beckie90 - When I was younger (up until 28yo) I was around 7.75 st. I have never dieted, never watched what I ate, never really thought about it - it was just my natural weight. If you do put on weight through pregnancy and are over what you've always been then you do feel a bit bigger.

I think there's a big difference between people that are naturally slim and people that are dieting to achieve what isn't their natural state (altho' of course it could become a natural state if the new diet is more of a change in nutrition lifestyle change).

I'm 38 so I putting on a bit of weight after 2 pg and metabolic changes with age are inevitable. I did have podgy feelings days at 8st 9lb and don't feel toned now but feel happy weight wise at 8st 2lb but I can imagine that at 20 I would'nt have been so happy to accept the new changes in my body at that stage in my life.

Plus when you're retaining water in the early stages of pg and its such a quick change its easy to feel a bit bleargh.

ValiumSingleton · 18/08/2010 11:19

I wonder about frame. On the one hand I really want to believe it. At five foot two, the lightest I've ever been was 8stone and that took a lot of work (exercise and restrictinig calorie intake, never eating anything 'bad).

So I want to believe that I must have a big frame. It would suit me to believe that, ykwim!

All skeletons look the same don't they? What is it that makes somebody have a big frame? Their bones, their muscles, their flesh!? Is 'big frame' a physiological reality or is it ..... something to make people like me feel better about the fact that even though I am only five 2 I could never, ever, even making all the effort in the world ever weigh less than 8 and a half stone now.

I looked in the mirror as I got dressed and I still don't think I look 'fat' even though I weigh about a stone more than women on this thread who feel too big.

Confused
beckie90 · 18/08/2010 11:36

im 8 stone and i am nowere near a skeleton, if u saw me u would believe me. my hips are are 34.1/2 inch thats not that small, but i am small on top never had boobs, or a belly. through the day i can gain 4 pound but by next day its gone again, i dont have to diet, in my last pregnancy i gained 4 stone although it looked like id gained about 1 stone, so i was 7 10 before preg and nearly 12 at the end of it, within 5 days i was 8 stone 6. didnt even diet or breastfeed, this is just me. when i was 16 i was nomore than 6 and half stone and i didnt have a problem, was just skinny.
thankyou zam72

UnseenAcademicalMum · 18/08/2010 11:44

I am 5'3" and pre-depression (following ds2's health problems) I was 8-8.5 stones and size 8 clothes. I had been that weight (except when pregnant when I ballooned) from being about 15 years old. I didn't feel big, but I did sometimes feel a bit "wobbly", due to being too lazy to exercise Blush.

Now I'm more like 9.5-10 stone and feel huge. largely as a result of comfort eating Sad. Joined weightwatchers, but tbh I don't even have the motivation to be bothered with that.

SagacityNell · 18/08/2010 11:47

how can you be a size 8 with 30F bra size? Confused

I think i am similar to beckie. I have never had boobs, even breastfeeding, i was always slim (eating disorders aside, i have always been slim - its my natural size)

I think the issue here is that it doesn't matter how big or small you are, everyone can feel uncomfortable in their own skin.

beckie90 · 18/08/2010 12:06

thankyou sagacitynell well said. at work people use to like gang up on me for been slim, and always thought i had an eating disorder, so i said to them look i probably eat twice more than any person here, its not my bloody fault, that i am what i am. my waist is 23 hips just over 34. i have a butt, but i dont have a belly even after having a child i dont, its not down to the fact that i dont eat. cause i love food could never healthy eat either. like this sounds very greedy but went to franky and bennys had a 2 course meal and then had a chinese at night time which consisted of chicken foo young fried rice chips and curry sauce. if i try eating healthy i loose weight and then my face goes gaunt so i just have to eat lots of fatty foods. but yea somedays i do feel abit uncomfortable, but thats just normal for a girl of 20 whos having her 2nd child.

ValiumSingleton · 18/08/2010 14:30

Did somebody gang up on you?!

beckie90 · 18/08/2010 16:19

didnt say they did. just saying that sagacity was right by saying no matter how big or small you are you can have issues with it. and yes i might have a b.m.i of under 20 but thats what my body chooses no matter how often i eat or what i eat it doesnt change.

nappyaddict · 18/08/2010 16:27

Pookimum Did you feel big at 8 stone pre-pregnancy? I think the problem is probably that you need to tone up, not lose weight?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 18/08/2010 16:28

Oh and beckie did you feel big at 8 stone pre-pregnancy? Or is it only cos you have water-retention and bloating etc now you are pregnant?

OP posts:
beckie90 · 18/08/2010 16:39

well say 2 month ago i was 8 stone 6 and then i started loosing weight didnt know why and then found out i was preg, and when i 1st found out i went to 7 stone 11 even though was eating think it was due to worrying, but back to 8 stone now. and before my 1st preg (as this is 2nd) i was bout 7 stone 10 and no didnt feel fat. even somedays now i think oo god i look skinny but the next day i feel like ive put on half a stone and i havent its just water and stuff and it all goes as easy as it comes. thats the times i feel huge lol. but yea i need some toning might start doing pregnancy pilates

Pookimum · 18/08/2010 17:53

Nappyadict I didn't feel big at 8 stone pre-preg & I don't feel big at 8 stone now, I don't particularly like the muffun top but it doesn't really bother me, I do tend to wear looser fitting tops to hide it though. Although I said I would feel big at 8.5 stone I know I am not actually big or fat but just bigger than I want to be as I have a half stone roll of flesh around my middle which makes it hard to do my jeans up and if I buy a bigger size they are way to big on my hips & thighs. I normally eat really well, losing the 3/4 stone baby weight was my first diet & I did it by eating super healthy rather than starving myself. I guess I do now need to tone up if I want something near the stomach I used to have but don't know how I am going to find the time to do that!

Sagacitynell I am definitely a size 8 on top, my bra size is probably nearer 28 than 30 (but its very hard to find nice bras this size) and so as my ribcage is so small my cupsize is big in comparison, but probably on a bigger frame would be much smaller, maybe like a C or D cup. I look big but not huge, don't look like an F cup if people think of that as looking like Jordan :)

Pookimum · 18/08/2010 18:03

Oh and my sister is exactly the same size. We have to get size 8 tops cos anything bigger falls off our shoulders or ends up too low cut & revealing. Not all size 8 tops fit, some are way to tight on the bust but if we shop around a bit we can normally find stuff in size 8 that fits fine.

nappyaddict · 20/08/2010 13:45

Just realised my thread title could be confusing. I meant 8 stone 5 lbs, not 8 and a half stone.

OP posts:
beckie90 · 23/08/2010 11:49

i knew what you meant lol

dinkystinky · 23/08/2010 12:01

Depends on your frame and your lifestyle. At that weight,I look far too thin and unhealthy (have been it in the past). After 2 kids, I'm now 10 stone 6 which is a much healthier weight for me as I have curves and muscles and lead a healthy active lifestyle. My ideal weight is around the 10 stone mark - that's what works for me, my frame and your lifestyle.

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/08/2010 12:03

I am 5 foot 4 and about 8 stone 10 at the moment. Do feel a little big in some parts of me.

mamasunshine · 23/08/2010 12:14

I'm 8ft4 and WAS 8st2 before 1st pregnancy. I felt fab at that weight, but ANY smaller I would have felt very thin and not slim. Anything over 8 1/2 stone and I did start to feel too big. I'm now on 3rd pg in 3 years and doubt I will ever get down to that weight again. But would be happy to be 8 1/2- 9 stone one day [hopes deperately!]
