Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

Welcome @Friedscrambledpoached that sounds like a challenging combo of health conditions. Well done for keeping going even when it’s hard. It really does sound like a healthy diet already.

I didn’t sleep too well last night and I’m very tired this morning, but I’m not sure if that’s just me, or MJ. I’ve mapped out my meals for today and the calories are too low- I’ve had Greek yogurt, berries, nuts and honey for breakfast. Planning on chicken breast and salad for lunch, then spaghetti bolognese for dinner, but the estimate is under 1200 calories. I think I’ll have some crackers with the salad and maybe put some cheese on my spag bol. I’m going to have one of those bone broth sachets now too. Any other ideas? I don’t feel like having potato today.

Maybe some fruit and yoghurt? Sliced apple or pear with some cheese?

Friedscrambledpoached · 10/08/2026 11:14

Thanks guys! :) No I haven't been tracking in myfitnesspal. Although I was when I went down to 12 stone 9 lbs so probably a good idea. Yes I'm trying to hit the protein. I had 4 eggs yesterday, some black beans, cheese and peanut butter but no idea if it was enough. I've got cottage natural yoghurt, cheese and chicken on the weekly shop!

Yes maybe more fruit or hummus/rice cakes/carrot sticks if you want to up your calories.

I'd recommend a green tea every morning too for keeping the bowel moving! Whilst on MJ I'm trying to stick to green tea/red bush/lemon and ginger/peppermint teas rather than my usual normal tea and coffee with milk.

I know I keep wanging on about recipes (can you tell I'm a foodie - which is what got me into this position in the first place!!) but I have just made some no bake protein bars and they taste delicious!

I bought some Hemp protein powder at the weekend (it was about £6 for 500g) and followed this recipe:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/protein-bars I exchanged the vanilla protein for the hemp and used honey instead of maple syrup. It's one of those recipes you can adapt in lots of ways.

I just find protein bars are handy for a snack or when you don't feel you can eat much, and they work out WAY cheaper than shop bought, which usually cost a frtune for just 3 bars!

Six protein bars lined up next to each other

Protein bars

Make your own homemade protein bars for a post-workout boost. They're made with protein powder, bananas, nut butter and a blend of seeds

I can't wait to start now, the doctor appointment went well so I should be getting the medication tomorrow or Wednesday hopefully

Cheesecake53 · 10/08/2026 14:40

Wonderful!

WombatCowgirl · 10/08/2026 16:23

@chocolatecoveredpretzels now that I've done two jabs I think I can identify what are side effects and what's chance, and sleeping badly for the two days I have the most suppression, the two days after I've jabbed, does seem to be a side effect for me, and maybe for you too?

xxx200 · 10/08/2026 20:53

Joining in as I plan to take my first mounjaro dose on the 21st - waiting until the Friday after my birthday as I know it would be setting myself up for failure to start so close.
Excited reading everyone's experiences and losses!
I am starting at 17stone 4lbs and hoping to get down to 13stone initially and then eventually 10stone as I am only 5ft 3.

Cheesecake53 · 10/08/2026 21:33

Wow @xxx200 next week is my birthday too. Hello fellow Leo!

getawayfromme · 10/08/2026 22:19

@chocolatecoveredpretzelsI finally told my DH last night. He did laugh but was a bit baffled that I had hidden it from him!

weighed in this morning at my GP appointment and I’d lost -4lbs, which is ok. Took jab three today and feel fine.

height 5’2
SW 11 st 3
CW 10st 13

I was at a family party this weekend and I look genuinely terrible in the photos, I was so upset when I saw them afterwards on WhatsApp. I can’t wait to get this weight off.

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 10/08/2026 22:32

@getawayfromme Four pounds off is brilliant! Just imagine holding 4lb of butter… that’s a great loss.

Well done for telling Mr Getaway too!

Your starting weight is more like a goal weight for me! I’ve just googled a quick conversion and I was just over 18 stone at my last weigh in and I’m 5’8. I don’t think I’ve ever been 11 stone as an adult, always been bigger since my early teens. I don’t really know what a sensible goal weight would even be. First, I want to be out of the obese BMI category!

Any suggestions on setting a sensible goal?

MiaN · 11/08/2026 05:58

My medication will arrive Thursday evening. I want to have injection day Fridays, but also have weekends away this week for friends 50th and not sure it's good idea to have my first dose before. But even more I don't want to wait, I to long time to decide and now I just want to get started. What was your first week like?

weightlossmed · 11/08/2026 12:53

It's been 2 days after starting with a microdose of 1.25 mg and I'm happy that I've had no side effects. For context, I had to come off Mounjaro around 2 years ago due to vomiting so I wanted to slowly eek myself back on. I've not really noticed much of an effect on food noise or hunger (as expected at this dose really); I've eaten less but I think it's because I know I'm on the medication rather than an actual reduction in hunger.

I'm trying to decide whether I'll go up to 2.5 mg on my next dose on Sunday or whether to continue to slowly increase over the next few weeks, such as 1.25 > 1.75 > 2.5 mg.

Biosblbay · 11/08/2026 20:28

Just done my second jab, still popping myself over it, my anxiety always gets the better of me! But 6Ilbs down in my first week, and I haven’t even exercised this week! Crazy 😱 the exercise will begin once I’ve settled in more taking MJ

Biosblbay · 11/08/2026 20:29

@MiaN personally I would advice waiting after the weekend, it can make you feel very sick and very fatigued! Some worse than others. I also find jabbing in the week is better so you are more settled for the weekend, but again this is personal preference x

Mamafromthebeach · 11/08/2026 21:50

Hi all @MiaN I would also wait until after the party - it is only a few days away. The odds are that everything would be absolutely fine - but waiting a couple of days means you won’t be stressed! @Biosblbay fab effort!

@weightlossmed i am on week 2 of tiny dose - not feeling much effect - will go to 2.5 on the weekend. I feel confident for me it will be ok. See how you are closer to the jab day.

Hello everyone, happy Wednesday!

I am feeling a bit disappointed on my first post-jab weigh day. I’ve lost 0.6kg since last Wednesday. However, my waist measurement has gone down an inch, so clearly something is happening.

How is everyone else today?

Hello! I'm not a new starter, I'm actually in maintenance now but I am the same height as you and was 17st 4 when I began MJ.

I initially set myself a goal range of 11-12st which encompassed the point where I would enter a healthy BMI (11st 10)

As I got nearer I decided on 11st 4 because that was a nice round 6 stone off. I got there in a year and wanted a bit of leeway so carried on while I titrated down. I've maintained at around 10st 11 for the last 3 months, which is BMI 23. Happy with that in my mid 50s.

Set plenty of mini-goals though because for those of us with quite a lot to lose it's a marathon not a sprint and milestones are what will keep you going. Whether it's each stone off, seeing the scales start with a 15 instead of a 16, onederland, moving into just overweight from obese BMI etc. They all matter!

Quick wave to @Biosblbay before I go. Well done. Knew you'd be fine. 😉

Hattermadness · 12/08/2026 09:21

2nd jab done this morning, bit disappointed as I've only lost 2lbs but tbh as long as the scales are going down and not up that's a win!
Hoping this week goes a week as last week, I have to say I have felt AMAZING all week, don't know if it's the healthier foods or zero alcohol, but I definitely feel 'lighter' around my torso.
Also, has anyone tried apple and peanut butter as a snack? I hadn't before this week and OMG it's lush!

2lbs is great. Well done 👏

yes I love peanut butter and apple and sometimes have it on toast.

Friedscrambledpoached · 12/08/2026 09:51

Thanks for the support @Mounjarogirl Do you have any tips to share?

I saw an advertisement for an iced pistachio whipped cream drink at a cafe - usually I'd have been struggling not to order one but my brain was instantly repulsed at the thought! Amazing! :)

I told two friends yesterday that I'd started and one told me she's also on it and has lost 3 stone in 3 months! She recommended Huel Protein Shakes for lunch. There are 400 cal ones and 190 cal ones depending on how hungry you feel.

I'm going to do my first weigh in today. I feel much better in myself already - lighter and a bit slimmer but rather nervous to see the actual number. But a loss is a loss which will build week by week!

katedan · 12/08/2026 10:00

Hi i joined the July thread but as my first day was yesterday as today is day 2 i will join this one.

Today day 2 happy to say no side effects currently but also no difference in appetite, eat healthy in week and excercise so the test will be the weekend.
