Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

First jab yesterday, 2.5mg. I've had it in the fridge for two weeks but been to nervous to do it. Took me ages to work up to telling my husband I wanted to go on it but he was really supportive.

SW 13st 13
GW 11st 9

Felt fine yesterday but fatigue, muscle aches / fluey feeling, some nausea today. Hoping it will pass.

I'm not jabbing next week as away on holiday.

Quink · 12/08/2026 11:28

Hello, would like to join 😊. First jab on Monday at 2.5mg, starting at 14 stone, want to get to 11 and a half, I think. Tiny bit of nausea and slight headache Monday and Tuesday but feel normal today. Not much impact on appetite yet though ended up in the pub on Monday for dinner but wasn’t tempted by an alcoholic drink at all, which was unusual. Trying not to get my hopes up for quick results which is hard when you hear some positive stories.

BeverleyMakka · 12/08/2026 12:23

So I’m into day 5 of 2nd jab, feeling really tired this week but struggling to sleep.
One thing that has struck me is that unlike most people I still feel hungry and still have food noise but my willpower is stronger than usual so I’m able to ignore it.
A friend told me someone she knows is on it for addiction ( not sure whether it was alcohol or something else) so the “willpower boost” effect seems to make sense.

MiaN · 12/08/2026 14:47

Day 1 for me. To be honest, once the decision was made I felt I just want to get going. It's my first day of period, and naturally lower hunger day

Affirmation of the day - this is going to work for me. I deserve help and one is available

MiaN · 12/08/2026 16:40

The difference between my GP and the online delivery has been interesting.

My gp obviously know me and is happy to give me 3 month script - 2.5, 5 and 7.5. I will meet you in 3 months and I expect 5 % loss or we won't continue - I guess this is sensible. He also said without additional measures you won't lose more then 15% you need to use it as tool and not something that will get you optimal results unless you work on diet, exercise and behaviour changes.

Online suggested we look at results and up only when and if needed, but likely to need it after 2.5 as most people do. She also said several times 100g protein minimum, start strength training and we will review again. She said several things that some of her patients do elastic bands 5 minutes 2 times weekly but I absolutely must do strength

They are both very supportive, I will use the delivery service but wanted my doctor to be onboard with what I do

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 12/08/2026 17:11

@MiaN that’s such a difference!

I get that GPs are stretched, and I wonder if that’s why they are giving a light touch?

I went from not even really considering MJ to being prescribed it within the space of 30 mins during my annual diabetes review. The nurse played me a numan YouTube video on how to inject, said that I’d need to eat healthily and when I asked if there was anything else I needed to do/ advice, told me to start saving money so I could buy new clothes in the near future.

She did offer for me to go in and do my first injection with her, if I was scared, but I didn’t feel like I needed it. I have a phone call with her on the 19th to review. That’s been pretty much it! You guys here have given me more advice!

Are you getting pens online as well as from your GP?

OP posts:
MiaN · 12/08/2026 17:19

Pens online only. My gp for blood tests and check ups, I wanted him on board with what I do. Its cheaper to get it online from UK, I am in Ireland. He was happy with the approach in the end. I think they feel less concerned now as the medications are more known

Biosblbay · 12/08/2026 22:11

Does anything help with the nausea or is it a matter of just coping with it until the effects wear off? Second had yesterday and feel the most nauseous now than I have before. I haven’t eaten anything bad today either, but I haven’t eaten a lot and definitely not a lot of water so could this be a factor to me feeling a bit sicky?

Ladidahdi · 12/08/2026 22:14

I’m more nauseated when dehydrated, sipping on ice cold water and ginger tea helps

PrimalScreaming · 12/08/2026 22:43

I found sipping a protein shake helped when I struggled to eat and felt nauseus... hydration and some calories at the same time! I keep a few in the fridge now to be ready!

Cheesecake53 · 12/08/2026 22:49

I found eating anything helps.

Biosblbay · 12/08/2026 22:50

@PrimalScreaming@Ladidahdi thank you for the tips. Have either of you physically been sick or just the nausea? I have a huge fear of being sick and I hope this will pass eventually and it’s just the feeling rather than actually physically being sick!

Quink · 12/08/2026 23:01

I’ve found that drinking lots of water has really helped with the nausea.

PrimalScreaming · 12/08/2026 23:23

@Biosblbay only felt some nausea, no vomiting at all. As others have said, drinking is essential and trying to eat a little or have a shake seems to help for most people. Hope it passes for you soon.

MiaN · 13/08/2026 06:03

Day 1 was ok, I was tired and less hungry then usual partly due to time of month. I tracked my calories and was 25g of fibre and 109g of protein.

I am going to start with some light strength training today - bench presses and glute bridges for about 3 sets of 8 reps each only before morning walk.

I want to give myself a really good start, embracing this new beginning in full and focusing on making most of the help it can give me. My menu will be something like - eggs and veggies breakfast, chicken thigh, little bit of rice, salad for lunch (reduced portion) with little bit of olive oil spray, natural Greek yoghurt and raspberries for snack and chicken meatballs with marinara sauce and courgettes with 50g of pasta for dinner. I will try to be not eat after dinner but if hungry I am going to eat something. I will take multivitamin with breakfast, fish oil with lunch and magnesium before bed. 2.4l of water at least.

My dream is that at the end of this journey I have very solid healthy routine, and while the two consultation focused on different things - they both leaned towards I need to work at it too. Protein, strength training, long term thinking. I don't actually mind the 5% of loss in 3 months goal, I understand why.

Affirmation of the day - I deserve help and help is available!

Well done, @MiaN sounds like you’ve got it all in hand.

For those a bit further along, would you say the second week’s injection hit harder with side effects?

How is everyone doing?

No. Still a sore head in the morning but felt fine. Fullness wasn’t as bad but I think that’s because I was used to having smaller meals during week one.

MTKWhite · 13/08/2026 12:49

48 hours from first jab here. Better than yesterday but feeling weak and some brain fog. No nausea which I'm relieved about as I don't cope well with it.

Biosblbay · 13/08/2026 12:53

@chocolatecoveredpretzels I done my second jab Tuesday evening, I would say yes, my side effects are a little worse on the second week. More nausea and feeling a little light headed at times. I plan to stay on 2.5 as I am far too scared to increase my dose! 7Ilbs down, 35Ilbs to go!

PrimalScreaming · 13/08/2026 13:55

I think it's all so individual. I have found the week after my 2nd jab much easier - I haven't had the fatigue / brain fog as I had for 3 days after my first jab and my tummy, reflux and nausea have all been much less.

WombatCowgirl · 13/08/2026 16:18

I'm in week 2 and still not sleeping well, if that's a side effect. And I definitely don't feel hunger the same, instead of hunger pangs and tummy rumbling my stomach aches if I've not eaten anything for half a day or not drinking enough. Pleased with myself for choosing a chicken and avocado salad at a celebration pub lunch today, less pleased for also having a mini creme brulee! Are there people for whom food doesn't come with a judgement, either good or bad?

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 13/08/2026 18:12

@WombatCowgirl Is the heat making your sleep worse anyway? It could be a combo of heat and the medication maybe.

I have been tracking my food using MyFitnessPal and it helps me with that feeling of ‘good/ bad’ food because I’m making my choices fit my calories. So it’s okay for me to have had a sausage, cheese and scrambled egg wrap for lunch, because I’m going to come in just below my calorie target for the day. I’m going out for dinner with friends tomorrow, so I’ll have a lighter lunch to balance it.

I weighed myself again this morning, and I was 0.5kg down since yesterday’s official weigh in! I never know whether it’s best to only weigh once a week, or just do it every day and expect ups and downs?

OP posts:
WombatCowgirl · 13/08/2026 18:48

Thanks @chocolatecoveredpretzels yes it could be! I weigh every day so I'm more aware of ups and downs and don't get demoralised if I'm holding water weight from having eaten carbs just before weigh in day.

BeverleyMakka · 13/08/2026 18:50

I’m due for 3rd jab tomorrow night and I’m feeling quite hungry today😒
Im still feeling tired and lightheaded, not sure if I’m eating enough tbh. I’m off for the school hols so it’s not a problem at the minute but I need to be work fit in a few weeks so I think I’m going to start properly planning and tracking meals.
Any tips on how to get enough protein while still maintaining low calories?
Also - TMI! Only doing a no. 2 twice a week. I’m having 1/2 teaspoon chia seeds a day so going to up this to 1 tsp

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 13/08/2026 19:07

@BeverleyMakka I’m averaging 100g protein every day. If it would help, I could screen grab my logs on MyFitnessPal?

It’s mostly Greek yogurt, chicken/ lean beef, bone broth, eggs and a bit of cheese.
