Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

@BeverleyMakka I’m averaging 100g protein every day. If it would help, I could screen grab my logs on MyFitnessPal?

It’s mostly Greek yogurt, chicken/ lean beef, bone broth, eggs and a bit of cheese.

Yeah it would be great to get some ideas, thanks

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 13/08/2026 20:27

Feel a bit nervous sharing these for some reason!

Breakfast is either Greek yogurt with fruit, nuts and honey, or two scrambled eggs and a piece of fruit like an apple.

Lunches/ dinners usually have salad once/ twice a day. I’ve been trying to eat the protein first.

It’s working out between 1700- 1900 calories per day. I have bone broth, apples, dates or few cream crackers as a snack if I want it.

Hi I had my first Mounjaro jab on Tuesday! So far no side effects at all and my appetite is much less than it was! I don’t want to share my weight but I will further down the line if/when I lose a bit!🤞🏻
So far, I’m impressed but we’ll see if the lack of side effects continues….

I have set up my calories to 1850 but I too have +- 150cal. I don't push myself to eat more then what I am hungry for first few weeks bout will keep an eye to not go under 1400

Good sleep last night, I feel more tired then usual, much less hungry and quicker to get satisfied. I think the fullness and nausea are partly side effects, partly how the medicine works. That's what Dr Kessler said in the book I am reading. It forces to make different choices to avoid it. I hope the positive effects lasts, Its so nice to be hungry and eat normal portion and then not be hungry.

Someone recommended freezing grapes. I have tried this 10 times but never liked it - until yesterday they felt like the best treat there is.

MiaN · 14/08/2026 05:34

I have to say first few days feel like a bliss - I hope it lasts! I love having some hunger, but much lower and easier to satisfy. I have done my 5 minutes of weights - shoulder presses, triceps is the two exercises for the day and off for my morning walk. I am going to try to stick with that, vs making excuses that I am too tired and if I am genuinely too tired I can do 5 minutes stretch and gentle walk just to keep working on habit creation.

Belladog1 · 14/08/2026 07:23

Hey guys, can I join?

I am on my 3rd week, and i was terrified taking that first jab. I watched about 10 YouTube videos and read the leaflet about 40 times!

But, 3 days into starting i had a nasty accident which resulted in 2 operations and a few days in hospital. While there all I kept thinking was .... I can't miss my Saturday jab 🙈 luckily I was home in time, but due to the accident I can't exercise and I'm struggling to cook. I had everything planned and meals planned, but it all went out the window.

I have lost weight (not that it shows yet) but mainly because I couldn't eat for 3 days in hospital. I'm on the mend now and trying to incorporate healthy protein again.

I've decided to stay at the lowest dose for the 2nd month as I don't feel I've given the jab a chance yet.

MiaN · 14/08/2026 07:30

Welcome. What a start, and well done to you for looking ahead and not giving up. I hope your recovery is speedy

autumnkate · 14/08/2026 08:42

Hi everyone- I did my first jab on 1st August. I’ve been lurking on this thread!

i’m 5ft 6 and my starting weight was 15 stone 8.

so far I’ve lost 12 lbs and feeling absolutely fine. A little constipated so think I might take a senna tonight.

Hope everyone is doing well x

WombatCowgirl · 14/08/2026 08:58

Welcome @Belladog1 and @autumnkate ! For anyone else using Voy, I hadn't realised they automatically raise your dosage for your second delivery, if you want to opt out and stick with 2.5 a bit longer you need to change your order, which their Ai chatbot can explain. Just a heads up!

Mamafromthebeach · 14/08/2026 10:08

WombatCowgirl · 13/08/2026 16:18

I'm in week 2 and still not sleeping well, if that's a side effect. And I definitely don't feel hunger the same, instead of hunger pangs and tummy rumbling my stomach aches if I've not eaten anything for half a day or not drinking enough. Pleased with myself for choosing a chicken and avocado salad at a celebration pub lunch today, less pleased for also having a mini creme brulee! Are there people for whom food doesn't come with a judgement, either good or bad?

Sleep has been a problem for me too - winter here ( in Australia) so the heat is not the issue. I have started having a magnesium “sleep” supplement in the evening before bed and it has helped with going to sleep. I am still waking up a few times and then am
awake very early in the morning. I hope it passes!

Friedscrambledpoached · 14/08/2026 15:11

Hi all. My weigh in after week 1 was quite disappointing. I've only lost 1 lb! :( Despite my appetite being really reduced and eating MUCH less than usual. I thought I'd done really well with my protein targets too. So I'm a bit baffled and a bit gutted. The only exercise I managed though was one 10 minute yoga session and one 20 minute strength training session with a resistance band. So this week I'm really trying to get my step count up and go for more brisk walks.

The number on the scales really does baffle me though because I definitely feel better in my clothes and I think my face, boobs, feet and fingers seem slimmer. And my husband agrees. Can't believe it's just 1 lb!

CatMonj · 14/08/2026 15:25

Cam you share which book you're referring to please?

MiaN · 14/08/2026 15:29

1st - think about 1 lbs of butter. it's not a small win to lose that!
2nd - I read the tips in some of the older discussions and so many say - don't take the first two weeks as indication of how it will be. I know I will lose a lot week one but it will slow down massively as I travelled recently and it was the week before my period. Pound or two is likely a good win for me and I will be honest I would love 2 pounds a week but will take anything.
3rd - it sounds like the medicine is working, maybe you just need some time to show on the scale.
4th - did you have salty meal, or are you last week of your cycle - this can cause bloat and few pounds on the scales.

Well done for your loss, keep at it

MiaN · 14/08/2026 15:48

I have few books on GLPs I am listening to
Diets Drugs and Dopamine - Dr David Kessler - this is a quote form it
"“So that subclinical nausea is there, but they are not perceiving it?” I asked. “Absolutely,” she said. For those who do experience nausea, the sensation seems to be more than a side effect; it is part of how GLP-1s work. Users feel sick if they consume excessive amounts of food. To avoid that feeling, they learn to eat smaller portions..

That is precisely what the GLP-1 hormones do. They decrease gastric emptying, induce nausea, suppress reward sensitivity, and reduce blood glucose variability. Taken together, those effects make the GLP-1 drugs very powerful in quieting the addictive circuits and, ultimately, in controlling appetit”

this is my second on the list
Weightless: A Doctor’s Guide to Weight-Loss Medications, Sustainable Results and the Health You Deserve

And if I am feeling brave I may attempt. He is great researching topics but so detailed - it requires a lot of head space.

I just took my first dose about 3 hours ago.

I am 62, morbidly obese most of my adult life, serial weight loser and regainer etc, maximum BMI was 48.5 a good few years ago. At the start of 2024 it was 41.5, and since then I have done a LOT of work on the psychological /emotional stuff, while gradually moving towards a low carb intermittent fasting eating style, virtually no snacking, very little sugar or UPF’s. BMI got to just under 30 in May 2025, and while I’ve been up and down a bit, it has been there or thereabouts ever since. I’ve had type 2 diabetes for 28 years.

So….. while I’m delighted with the improvement in my quality of life and how well I feel, I am also frustrated by not making any more progress. My HbA1C is now 45 without meds, having been over 70 on 2 meds. But I believe better is possible, and the key to that, is further weight loss. So, here I am. Aiming to get my BMI to 24 or so, and then hopefully taper off and eventually stop the MJ. Hoping that my new eating style and habits will prevent regain. But of course you never know until you try.

One of the meds I was on for 5 years is Trulicity, which is another GLP-1 specifically for type 2 diabetes. I didn’t have any side effects when I started that, other than a reduced appetite (which didn’t last) so I’m hoping the same is true with MJ. As we head of for a 4-day break in London tomorrow!

Can I ask those of you who have started, what did you feel after you first dose, and how soon? In terms of appetite suppression, lack of food noise, any unpleasant side effects etc.

PS - MJ appears to be already doing its work of blunting post-meal glucose spikes.

Anseranser · 14/08/2026 21:04

Well done @PuzzledObserver , sounds like you've done a lot of work to get where you are now!

I've just ordered my first pen 😱 I expected to have a few days to get used to the idea while they reviewed it, but already approved! 😲 That's quick work, I can't decide if it's excellent customer service or if I'm just that obviously in need of help 😂🙈

Thank you.

In my case, the difference between the email thanking me for my order and the one saying it was approved was all of 7 minutes.

My guess is they use AI to parse your answers to the questions, and possibly to check that your photos look like your BMI is in line with the weight and height you’ve declared. That wouldn’t take long.

MiaN · 15/08/2026 01:57

Well done @PuzzledObserver ! You have done great

I only stayed this Wednesday but do far

what did you feel after you first dose, and how soon? In terms of appetite suppression, lack of food noise -
Same day. Reduction in food noise, hunger and being satisfied with less

any unpleasant side effects etc
Tiredness. Next day in specific bit less so on day 3.

However I am trying to stay level headed as its very early days. I am focusing on eating higher satiety foods to help myself . I am thirsty more then usual but that positive

MiaN · 15/08/2026 08:41

5 minutes of strength and hour walk done. We are away for the night and need to plan and think about my food. I am liking my small strength sessions and my walk and I will miss it tomorrow morning - unless I find some easy 5 minutes Pilates style video on youtube

PuzzledObserver · 15/08/2026 10:15

Thanks @MiaN and well done on your exercise. I am also going away this morning, but for 4 nights - to London, so there will be a lot of walking. That will do for exercise for those days, but I’m normally in the gym or swimming pool several times a week.

Well I took my shot at 5pm yesterday and we ate at about 6.30pm I had seen some warnings about limiting fatty foods when on MJ but decided to risk what I had planned, which was a homemade pizza with low carb base, basically cheese, egg and almond flour. My hunch was that the MJ wouldn’t have got far enough into my system to cause any problems. I ate my normal portion, followed by Greek yogurt with nuts and seeds (including chia) and was fine.

I slept fine, and feel well this morning. I don’t eat breakfast anyway as I do intermittent fasting with 2 meals a day. But I have to say that if you offered me breakfast now, it would be a very firm no….. not just I don’t need it and it’s not my habit to have it, more I don’t want it.

So I have a challenged ahead - 4 days away from home, sourcing meals wherever I can. We had booked the hotel room only, but I got a call from the manager saying their air con had broken down, so if we decide to go ahead with the booking they have given us discounts, upgrades etc plus complimentary breakfast. As a low carb eater I would normally go for bacon and eggs, but apparently they only do continental breakfast. I’ll see what there is, and if anything appeals.

I need to do some more research on the fat thing, though. Low carbers generally eat fat fairly freely, but there’s a suggestion that could be an issue on WLI in terms of worsening side effects.

purplepie1 · 15/08/2026 10:20

Well yesterday and today are the worst I have felt so far. Yesterday I kept meals small and very healthy but it felt like they sat in my stomach all day. I was drinking water through the day but this didn’t help. I woke up in the night with severe acid reflux and had to then try and sleep sitting up. This morning I have had really bad sulphur burps.

since yesterday I am now on wk 3 of 2.5mg.

any tips on how to prevent this happening again?
