Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

Hope everyone's side effects quieten down soon. Weigh in day for me,
SW 20 stone 6 lbs
CW 18 stone 6 lbs
10lbs off this week so less dramatic than week one, but I'm pleased with that considering I've had 2 meals out and some Aperol spritzes!

ReneBallard · 15/08/2026 11:21

@purplepie1 see if your gp will give you some famotidine. I’m on it for another condition and don’t seem to get reflux on MJ even with spicy food so wondering if it’s that which stops it

Thanks @ReneBallardi will look into that.

Weigh in day today, two weeks on it yesterday with third jab yesterday. First week loss was 3.8lb, this week 1.6lbs so 5.4 total. Think im happy with that as have around 2-2.5 stone to lose in total for starting weight.

ive also been taking my measurements and this week saw an inch off each of my thighs, arms and chest! No change on hips or waist yet so assuming that’s where all the old fat is 😬

really really want to get the weight off but know I must be patient!!

Wow that’s a great loss for week 2.

2 stone down already! Well done 👏

Belladog1 · 15/08/2026 12:43

I haven't had many side effects and can still drink an odd glass of wine, but whereas I would normally have had 2 big glasses of wine on a Friday night, I'm totally satisfied with one.

I have suffered constipation. I didn't go to the loo for 8 days, so on day 6 I started taking Dulcolax (sp) and that really helped. I was screaming when I started to go ..... jesus that was painful, but back to being regular now.

My starting weight was 14 stone 8Ibs. Currently 13 stone 12Ibs. It's been 3 weeks and I'm more than happy with this. My goal weight is 11 stone

KateBridgerton · 15/08/2026 12:53

Hope I can join you all. Just got a text to say that my Mounjaro is ready for pick-up. Feeling equally excited and terrified. I have a takeaway planned for tonight (the last supper?) so am planning on starting tomorrow.

Cheesecake53 · 15/08/2026 13:19

Wonderful @KateBridgerton welcome!

PrimalScreaming · 15/08/2026 13:59

It was my weigh in and 3rd jab yesterday. Lost 2lb this week, which I'm very happy with. Brings total to 8lb in 2 weeks. I'm quite happy to be slow and steady from here on in! SW: 14st 4lb, CW: 13st 10lb

@purplepie1 My biggest side effect has been reflux. It's very sporadic though and I'm finding Gaviscon usually works pretty quickly for me.

@KateBridgerton Hello! 👋Just to say that some people have found having a big meal / greasy food before a jab can lead to increased side effects as the medicine starts to work very quickly. I think quite a few people (me included) tried to be mindful of what we ate for a couple of days before the first jab. I hope you enjoy your takeaway but might want to carefully consider what you choose a bit more than normal. Good luck with the first one!

BeverleyMakka · 15/08/2026 14:20

Quick question- I’ve just watched a YouTube video about constipation on MJ, The doc said tea& coffee doesn’t count towards your 2 litres a day (something to do with the caffeine) but I only drink decaf anyway so can my tea & coffee count or not?

CatMonj · 15/08/2026 15:48

I jabbed on Thursday, felt fine Thursday and Friday, but feel awful today - Saturday. Sick, nausea and slightly light headed. Anyone else experience a delayed reaction?

KateBridgerton · 15/08/2026 15:53

How can I minimise the probable side effects? I am delaying starting to eat clean for a day or two following advice from PrimalScreaming and have ordered some collagen powder and biotin. Presumably drink plenty of water? Is there anything missing?

PrimalScreaming · 15/08/2026 16:35

@CatMonj I read somewhere on here that the medicine peaks in your system between 8 and 72 hours after taking it. So I think it's quite usual to feel worse a couple of days after the jab. Hopefully it will pass as the levels start to fall. I hope you feel better soon - nausea is horrible. I found sipping a protein shake helped and others have said try and keep eating small amounts. Hang in there!

@KateBridgerton It's me again as I seem to be the only one around this afternoon!😄I drink at least 3 litres a day and also little and often with food is good I think. Up your protein and fibre too!
I think the thing is it affects everyone differently, you may get no side effects at all - many don't get any! I had extreme fatigue after my first jab for 3 days, but just rested when possible and gave my body what it asked for & not had it since. I now get some bouts of reflux, but for some people side effects include constipation & light-headedness. I think the thing is to try not to worry too much... side effects may be there but are rarely severe and you'll get used to managing them as they come and go.

MiaN · 15/08/2026 17:07

I will be out tonight to 50th birthday party and I am dreading the for that will be on offer. I had salad with chicken to try to cut the temptation. I don't want to eat anything that triggers reaction.

Friedscrambledpoached · 15/08/2026 17:57

Does anyone have any recommendations on what they’re eating to up their fibre? Constipation is creeping in!

Mamafromthebeach · 15/08/2026 22:09

Hi all - great losses to everyone who has posted above! I just did my 3rd jab at 2.5 after 2 weeks of 1.25. Even at a tiny dose I have lost another pound (so 4 pounds in 3 weeks) even though I didn’t really feel any effects of the medication this week.

Re constipation - this is an ongoing problem for me - even without the medication! I have chia seeds with every breakfast (even tried them sprinkled into scrambled eggs this week) and 2 kiwis each day (or prunes if I don’t have any). But if I haven’t been for a few days I take Movical.

Great to see some new people on here - so happy to have a group to share journeys with.

PrimalScreaming · 15/08/2026 22:18

@Friedscrambledpoached I bought some High Fibre Gummies from Amazon... Made by Physis, flavoured orange. I like them and much easier to get down than Movicol! I haven't actually taken them every day as I have been fine - not sure if they have helped but also have a lot of fruit including prunes, occassionally some wholegrain high fibre cereal for breakfast and also I top nearly everything with toasted mixed seeds!

I am going to share some summaries from the books I am reading, in case someone is interested. the first few are from Weightless.

Topic one - succusfull transition off GLPs

"In Weightless, Dr. Rocio Salas-Whalen emphasizes that while most patients need ongoing medication for chronic metabolic regulation, a specific subset of individuals can successfully taper off GLP-1s and maintain their weight loss long-term.
Patients who successfully transition off the medication typically share distinct characteristics:

  1. Mild or Short-Duration Metabolic Dysfunction
  • Less Severe Baseline Obesity: Individuals who started at a lower BMI or needed to lose a smaller total percentage of body weight tend to have less severe underlying hormonal resistance.
  • Recent Onset Weight Gain: People who gained weight due to a specific temporary trigger (such as medication side effects, injury recovery, acute life stress, or pregnancy) rather than decades-long chronic obesity are much more likely to maintain weight loss off the medication.
  1. Exceptional Lean Mass & Muscle Preservation
  • High Muscle Mass: Patients who actively built or preserved significant muscle mass via heavy resistance training during their weight loss phase have higher resting metabolic rates. This metabolic cushion prevents the drastic drop in daily calorie burning that typically triggers regain when medication stops.
  1. Complete Behavioral & Environmental Transformation
  • Automated Daily Habits: Individuals who built deeply ingrained, non-negotiable routines around high protein intake (~100g+/day), regular physical activity, and stress management are equipped to handle the natural return of some "food noise" or hunger signals.
  • Resolved Behavioral Triggers: Those who addressed emotional eating, sleep deficits, or psychological triggers while on the medication—rather than relying solely on the drug to suppress appetite—experience fewer behavioral lapses once off it.
  1. Managed Hormonal & Metabolic Markers
  • Absence of Severe Resistance: Patients without underlying, unmanaged conditions like severe PCOS, long-standing type 2 diabetes, or strong genetic predispositions have a higher likelihood of maintaining metabolic stability without exogenous GLP-1 support.
Dr. Salas-Whalen stresses that for anyone attempting to discontinue the medication, success relies on a slow, structured medical taper rather than stopping abruptly.
MiaN · 16/08/2026 09:37

Little bit more on the same topic
If you need blood-pressure medication to keep your blood pressure controlled, reaching a normal blood pressure doesn't mean the underlying tendency has disappeared. Likewise, reaching a healthy weight doesn't necessarily mean the biological drivers of obesity have disappeared.
She therefore says her goal for patients is often the lowest effective dose long-term, rather than automatically stopping once the goal weight is reached.

I thought it's sensible, approach - to be open minded to what it takes to maintain vs going in pre decided that you are going to stop or continue.

MiaN · 16/08/2026 09:46

The other points I got out of this book - I am sure there are more! She really pushes protein and strength training being partners with GLP as part of the treatment, 4 meals at 3/4 hours apart at lest 25g of protein each. Something along the lines that if you eat 50g on one meal - only 30 counts against your 100 as protein does not store in the body over x amount of hours, you need to keep it coming. She really vies it as 3 part treatment - GLP+Protein+Strength. One point that really struck me is

Don't waste the opportunity the medication gives you. When appetite is reduced, use that window to establish eating patterns that can support you long term.

Also don't rush to up dose, as they tend to be effective for few months and you don't want to burn through that period of increased effectiveness too quick.

That's it in terms of the book, but I am sure there is more. I may listen to it in few months again when I feel the need of refresher, it's a good book

re how I am doing -
For fibre - I eat a lot of fruit and veggies - raspberries, kiwis, pears and I don't usually have issues eating enough.

We are out last night and stayed in a hotel overnight. This was my first though night and morning. I had 2 glasses of prosecco and also some crisps - as I got very hungry later in the evening, and it was that or cupcakes. I feel bit off this morning and the only thing I was interested from the large breakfast buffet was fruit. I got up early and did my morning walk, but no strength yet. My stomach felt bit off, happy to be back and home and eat things that suit me better

Biosblbay · 16/08/2026 11:50

I am on my period, cravings of chocolate started yesterday and I did have some yesterday but I am still not satisfied! Anyone else here just indulge in their cravings around this time while trying to loose weight on mounjaro?

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 16/08/2026 12:14

Hi everyone. I’ve just done my second jab about half an hour ago. I’m feeling pretty good so far. I had Greek yogurt with fruit, seeds, nuts and honey for breakfast, then I did a strength workout and a fast 30 min walk on the treadmill.

@Biosblbay i think where I’ve gone wrong in the past is treating any food as off limits. It used to be that any ‘treat’ type food in the house would call to me (think like Elsa in Frozen 2 😂) and I’d eat it within a few hours or a day. Then I would think that I’ve messed up so what does it matter if I eat more.

This time, I’ve got a bar of my favourite chocolate (Co-op Dark Milk, sooo good) and I’m having a square after dinner. It’s 58 calories and I include it in my MFP tracker. I nibble and let the bite melt on my tongue to enjoy it. I know some people say to freeze/ chill it so it’s harder to eat too, so it slows them down.

I can’t remember if you’re tracking your food, but you can factor the chocolate in.
