Sorry you are feeling down @Polkadotdash , it sounds really hard. I would go back to the doctors too at this point in your shoes. It is easy for someone to say 'see how you go', but you are living with it 24 hours a day.

I've been googling menopause supplements (I just cannot sleep past 2-3am) and wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a one or two pill a day supplement. I know I won't take multiple pills at different times, they will sit in the cupboard and I will bin them years later so it needs to be a simple routine, once a day.

Has anyone got any experience of any of these?

As of today, I am actually thinking of going back on MJ. I don't know if that is silly, but I haven't managed to lose an ounce really (if you ignore the wave effect) in almost three months off it and I have been really on track eating wise. I'm ok where I am I guess, but I'd love to lose the last 12lb. I haven't gained either which is positive I suppose. I might look into who will prescribe (BMI just under 26) and make a decision. I might try Curely first as I've heard good reports.

Anyone else having problems with MN freezing and refreshing randomly? I’ve lost so many posts.

I’ve got a referral code for WePrescribe if that’s any use @PenelopePitstopPersists. £40 off first order (and I get some credit). Drop me a message if so. Prices are ok and trustpilot rating was one of the best when I looked.

I’ve been on a bit of a mission with my bikinis. They fit well enough to use but my boobs appear to be lower nowadays so they aren’t especially flattering. I’ve spent a few hours replacing straps for something more sturdy which helps a bit and tbh nobody will be looking or judging a 60+ year old woman’s choice of swimwear anyway. I don’t recognise myself atm. I haven’t cared about whether something is flattering for quite some time and suddenly I’m over critical.

HeidiLite · 17/04/2026 08:48

I'm planning to go out dancing next weekend, one of those 'over 40' parties that start at a reasonable hour.

But I have nothing to wear! Last time I was out, out it was still 'jeans and a going out top' era, which I hear is not done any more. What do I wear??

OP posts:
MJalltheway · 17/04/2026 09:27

The thing that helps my sleep most is magnesium @PenelopePitstopPersists . I have magnesium glycinate supplements. I don't take them every day because they are quite large capsules which I don't find easy to swallow but I don't wake up in the night if I have them.

I'd still be going for jeans and a nice top @HeidiLite! I'm tempted by one of those over 40s nights too, let us know how it goes!

Zempy · 17/04/2026 11:17

Jumpsuit!

Jins · 17/04/2026 11:33

Sleep - one of my specialist areas! I’ve had chronic insomnia for over 4 years and I’m currently doing really well on Daridorexant but I’m weaning off as it can only be prescribed for a year and I’m not far off that. It isn’t a sedative - fairly new and is a game changer. However it’s not the easiest to get. I’ve been researching supplements which may work in the same way and the closest is dong quai. Will be trying that out at some point.

Magnesium glycinate helped with restless legs but didn’t make an awful lot of difference to sleep quality or quantity. Valerian root helps a lot but I was popping handfuls at one point so moved to sedating antihistamines. Piriton then Doxylamine and currently promethazine but I have to rotate them when I end up double dosing. Most sleep supplements are worth a try. 5 HTP, ashwarganda are pretty good. Melatonin was short lived. Amitriptyline worked for a week.

@HeidiLite - everyone else there won’t have got the memo about jeans and nice top being unacceptable. These daytime club sessions for over 40s (ours are 50+) look like a very safe space from what I’ve seen of the people piling out.

HeidiLite · 17/04/2026 12:27

ooh I could wear a nice jumpsuit, couldn't I? Let's see what vinted has..

OP posts:
myladyjane · 17/04/2026 13:04

@Polkadotdash firstly I hope you are ok chickie.

@HeidiLite I love a jumpsuit as I’ve said before but I’d very much do jeans and a nice top.

@PenelopePitstopPersists I am the QUEEN of supplements and I do take a handful everyday (I have a days of the week pill sorter dh got me as a joke but it’s excellent). Magnesium made the biggest difference to me - I take the nutrition geeks one. They do a menopause bundle which is a few different supplements so possibly not what you are after. I have seen the Happy Mammoth supplements suggested as effective but I would say they need a good investigation - a wiff of fur coat and no knickers about them and they are spendy.

I did a big summer wardrobe shop yesterday and got told by dds I looke ‘quite stylish’. For my fellow lipstick lovers, I also got seduced into yet more dupes. The new Elf gloss/balm is lovely and oddly the boots 17 £2.50 lipsticks were good. I’d seen on insta that this was a good Charlotte tilbury pillow talk dupe so I got the recommended one and a cooler pink. The pillow talk dupe was too warm for me but excellent on dd and the pink one was great and lasted all morning. So for the price point an excellent purchase

HeidiLite · 17/04/2026 13:11

I like my supplements as well, I take magnesium capsules too but they are not too massive. Plus iron, B12, D, methylated folate, creatine, collagen.
Have tried something from Happy Mammoth before, pre-MJ when i was still hoping that the solution to stop my weight gain is to balance my hormones and heal the gut and whatever they promised. Didn't really notice any difference.

OP posts:
PenelopePitstopPersists · 17/04/2026 15:33

Thanks everyone. Because I’m a bit lazy I might just try the nutrition geeks menopause job lot bundle. Seems very reasonable price wise. I’ll have to get over having to take a few pills.

I’ve taken magnesium citrate before because it acts as an osmotic laxative but it gave me cystitis 😩. I could try a different type of magnesium couldn’t I.

Polkadotdash · 17/04/2026 19:43

Thank you ladies, for asking after me. I made it through the week - TF for that. My interview is on Tuesday but I had to submit a test paper on Thursday. I was relieved to have that off my hands and that did reduce some of the anxiety I’ve been feeling. I’ve got to do some prep this weekend as my next task. And so far of the 12 parcels I sent out for Vinted, no complaints yet. Fingers crossed for the remaining few deliveries.

And @jins I am having the same issues with the app losing draft posts. It’s really annoying.

PenelopePitstopPersists · 18/04/2026 05:57

Good to hear your update @Polkadotdash . You are riding a bit of a rollercoaster right now. We’ll all be cheering you on next week.

I’ve done it 🏆, ordered the six month pack of menopause bundle, £42 with a promotion code which feels like it is good value. I put my prescription meds in a seven day thing and keep them in my work bag so I can take them at work if I forget them. I’ll do the same with these.

I’ve also ordered MJ from curely. The main reason I stopped was because I felt permanently grumpy … that hasn’t changed 😬, maybe that’s the new thinner me or just a life stage. So I’ll restart and push on for the last few kg.

26inprogress · 18/04/2026 07:02

Ooh dancing sounds fun @HeidiLite, I’d wear whatever makes you feel good! Happy shopping!
@PenelopePitstopPersistsi also use nutrition geeks and they def seem to help. Like you say they’re good value too, hope they work; not sleeping is the worst thing. Hope MJ helps as well.

ooh @myladyjanebeing told by teens that you’re stylish is right up there! What clothes did you buy? Thanks for lipstick tips too, may have to pop to boots and have a look!

@Polkadotdashgreat news that you got the test paper submitted. Loads of luck with the prep and will be sending all the good luck vibes on Tuesday! Blimey you have been going for it on Vinted!

I think I’m just about over this Covid/ flu, knocked me out for a week and only made it out of bed yesterday. Still snotty and tired but that’s manageable! Ds off on his d of e practice gold expedition this morning so we have a child free weekend! I’ve cancelled reformers as still not feeling up to that but lovely DH has booked a tasting menu lunch for us, I think I can taste enough to enjoy it! Nails and eyebrows this morning and I expect the afternoon will be spent relaxing as I’ll be knackered!! Tomorrow we’re going to a football match in hospitality, one of my best friends husbands works at a club and invited us. It’s their team against DH team. Not been to watch football forever and not bothered about it at all but keen on experiencing hospitality as never have. So lovely pampery/ foodie weekend planned!
oh and I’ve lost a pound so 10st 61/2.

I have 2 5mg pens but probably need to decide which supplier to order a 2.5 from. Job for later!

have a wonderful weekend everyone!

myladyjane · 18/04/2026 08:54

@Polkadotdash well done on the first bit. You will smash Tuesday.

@PenelopePitstopPersists I was going to say well done but maybe well done isn’t the right phrase. I wonder if you will feel differently.

i am having one of my wobbles. Today is my last 10mg and from next week i am going to start lowering. I need to do the maths as have 12.5 pens and want to start by moving down to 9mg. Again I have been so flat out at work I haven’t focused on food quality or having the right food in. I’m not eating badly or anything, just not as well as I should be. I think I need to shop to meal
prep again, take choice out. But that’s an effort and my little brain is frazzled with work atm (have to catch up today).

@26inprogress I got:
co ord set
slouchy light cotton jumper
sun dress
drapey work shirt
some ecru carrot trousers
a linen ‘nice’ top
the other day I got some striped trousers and a jumpsuit
i would like a loose cotton shirt just for putting over stuff then I think I have a nice casual summer wardrobe that all goes together.

BreezyPeer · 18/04/2026 09:36

Morning all! Just catching up from my holiday.
I jabbed 4mg the day before I left. All good so far. I haven't had to reject any hospitality but I've managed to stick to fairly sensible portions.
@26inprogress really hoping you are feeling better soon. Glad your new boss was sympathetic
@MJalltheway so glad you are feeling better
@HeidiLite & @Zempy interesting about electric cars. I feel like my next car will be electric. I will run this one to destruction first but I do need to start a fund for when it needs doing
@Polkadotdash I really hope you are feeling better today. It's no fun with money worries. Amd not losing weight when you are paying a lot if money to do just that is disappointing in the extreme 😕
@PenelopePitstopPersists what a brilliant haul of clothes!
It's hard to keep the food quality up when work is so full on

It's sunny here and we are meeting a local friend in the nearby city this afternoon. I always find I walk miles in the city so looking forward to the contrast from the countryside we have had so far
Have a great day everyone xxx

Jins · 18/04/2026 10:34

Morning all! So much clothes shopping going on. Occupational hazard of weight loss but fun to read about. I love hearing what you all buy. I’ve always had a really haphazard approach to buying clothes. I’ve never really enjoyed it much so I’ve tended to pick things out from sale rails and inevitably I have always had a poorly planned and coordinated wardrobe. I’m learning from you all. I even have a list of things to make 🤣

I’m a bit worried about DS2. He’s very short tempered and we aren’t seeing a lot of him. His friends have rallied round him this week which has been heartwarming. The process of investigation is presumably rumbling along but he’s not had any updates during bereavement leave and he’s dreading going back.

Jab day today, yet to weigh in as a bathroom trip is required first.

Have a great weekend everyone

MJalltheway · 18/04/2026 11:23

Morning all!
thanks for that info @myladyjane on taking the magnesium in water, it's the nutrition geeks one that I have so I will give that a go 🙏
@BreezyPeer i may have missed it, but where have you gone?
@Jins when is DS back at work? I hope the going back is not as bad as he's fearing. It will be so good to have a line drawn under it when it's finally resolved, he must be so stressed.
enjoy your lunch @26inprogress ! Glad you are improving.
@myladyjane on the meal prep front, I spent a couple of hours a few months back making a spreadsheet of favourite recipes, where they were from (recipe book, gousto/recipe box, website link etc). I use that now to randomly pick 4 recipes from each week to make a meal plan. (I got ChatGPT to write a script to do it automatically but you can just do it manually too). It was definitely effort to start off with, but it's saved me so much time and thinking now. And if I come across a new recipe to try I just add it to the spreadsheet.

Quiet weekend for me, DH off doing various things today and tomorrow, older kids are working so just me and DD2. I am LOVING my new car! It's the most expensive and newest car I've ever owned so it's all shiny and exciting at the moment. 🤩 I keep volunteering to give people lifts everywhere 😂

I did a tentative session in the gym on Thursday with very few exercises and light weights and my backs been quite sore since so I think I'm not ready for that yet. I've got a 1-1 Pilates/rehab session on Monday, hope that will help more.

HeidiLite · 18/04/2026 12:11

If stuck for recipes, I love all the Roasting Tin series. haven't had a disappointing one yet. Meera Sodha books also really good.

Did a Bodyattack class this morning and swiftly cancelled all the burned calories out by having a fresh croissant (totally worth it). Now need to take DD shopping to spend some of her gift cards and then meeting up with a friend for an extra dog walk. Weather is lovely. May start packing the winter stuff away and Vinting some summer things.

Happy Saturday all. TF it’s the weekend, I’ve had quite a rubbish week at work. I’ve been totally shafted by a senior leader and had my work ripped up. On the plus side I had a number of colleagues come up to me to express their sympathy but also remind me that I’m actually pretty f’in good at my job, which has been heartening.

My weight range is now firmly up a kg. Appetite is high, caffeine tolerance is v high back to 3 cups a day. Zero suppression even after a huge plate of food. Last night I had steak with a coriander dressing, jacket potato (with butter), honeyed parsnips, roasted brassicas, sautéed kale - lots of butter and olive oil in everything. Wolfed the lot, then ate a big bowl of yogurt with banana, chocolate chips, berries & nuts.
But as I mentioned before my energy is also much higher, and haven’t ‘yet’ gone up a dress size. But I know I’m eating enough calories to gain weight. I’m in two minds as to whether to increase the dose yet as I’m really enjoying being able to get up in the morning and exercise. Could just be the lighter mornings and my vit D supplement kicking in. Maybe I need to get more strength training in with this excess energy. Put it to good use. Currently only doing 2 x peloton rides and 2 x yoga sessions plus a heavy weights session with PT.

Am not yet on the menopausal supplements other than collagen & Vit D. Still debating whether to try creatine.

I also do a weekly menu at the weekend to help ease mid-week decision fatigue. Plus have started doing a ‘wardrobe menu’ which helps too.

Jins · 18/04/2026 14:29

@MJalltheway - he’s back in on Wednesday so quite a bit of time off yet. He’s gone to the beach with his mates for a picnic and game of rounders. Will do him good.

My weight remains the same so if I can maintain like this I’ll be happy. Titrating down will be slow and steady.

Wtafmakeitstop · 18/04/2026 14:37

@HeidiLite at your height I suspect you’d look amazing in a jumpsuit. I tend to look like I’m wearing a babygro, not necessarily a terrible look but it isn’t quite what I’m aiming for in a night out.
Magnesium seems to help me with restless legs, I did have some giant tablets but have now found some that are only largish so much better to swallow.

PenelopePitstopPersists · 19/04/2026 11:28

@DGmaintaining another one of us with a rubbish work week! I’ve been dealt a 💩 hand in my workplace. It is just grief on top of grief and lots of resistance from one particular team who have been allowed to do whatever suits them for too long.

I’m on with decluttering still here. I’m getting rid of so much, furniture, more clothes, books, pans, all sorts, it feels like a workout. Really hoping that the people due to collect things turn up today (freecycle so no outlay on their part). I’ll take it to the tip if they don’t. Not ideal but my life is complicated enough and I’ve found charity shops locally either fussy or closed.

DGmaintaining · 19/04/2026 12:10

I’m having a very relaxed Sunday. Bought some food bits for the week. Laundry mountain has been reset to zero. Am going to research recruiters/headhunters. Would like to have options in 6 months time. Fully aware grass isn’t at all greener. But would like to know I’m staying because I choose to, not because I have to. My line manager went out for drinks with the person she said she would choose to replace me (in a talent mapping exercise) so there’s that bubbling away.

Jabbed 1.83mg today. 22 clicks. Am happy to stay between 59-60kg.

How hideous and for PenelopePitStop too (sorry Mumsnet not playing ball today). I don't know how they can get away with such appalling behaviour.

I also had gotten to the bottom of the laundry pile yesterday, but there's sadly more today. I've had this horrendous cold/sinusitis/COVID thing that hasn't been fun. I think I'm finally over the worst. Although I kept thinking that and then I'd head into the office and it would kick off again.

I've had a few bingey days so weight static but I've signed up to a 6 month block at my gym which includes a 6 week accountability block (probably overkill with my accountability coach but I felt like he created it just for me so I didn't want to say I didn't want to do it and he gave it to me for free with 6 months membership). I've got 5 weeks until I need to be in a bikini. It's extremely unlikely that I will be back to my goal weight (8st 6) but I'd like to aim for a pound per week which would get me 8st 11 which wouldn't be too shabby. Particularly as I've definitely put on muscle, I could make out bits of abs beneath the fat and loose skin so I don't necessarily need to get back to 8st 6 just what my body looked like when I was there (and I'm mindful that there are limits, given my arms and legs were never slim they're not going to look great so damage limitation, "bigger" might look better)
