BMI under 27 - Off Label/less to lose

ritala · 29/03/2026 12:17

I am mid 40’s and just can’t lose the weight like I used to. I’m fed up of losing and gaming the same two pounds. I’m about a stone and a half more than my happy weight (where I would be approx bmi 23).

I have tried to find a thread for people who have been approved ‘off label’ Wegovy or Mounjaro with less to lose but couldn’t find one, so thought I’d start here. I have a BMI higher than 25 but less than 27 with a couple extra health conditions. Hoping to start after Easter. I’d like to stay with a very low dose if possible. Half a pound a week loss would be good for me. I really want to avoided side effects.

Anyone who is in a similar boat and wants to share experiences or ask questions, please join! X

@kljdhs877 have a great holiday!

I get the toilet anxiety, I actually am constipation prone and so far this has been better, I've been going more easily but not too easily so far. Still I have a date on Saturday night so I hope it doesn't start going that way!!

Hope it is alright in the office @ritala.

I weighed again this morning and I reckon I am now down 8-9 lbs in 2.5 weeks, which I am beyond happy with.

Omg that’s a lot! What’s your height and starting weight?

:)

SandwichesAndGingerBeer · 29/04/2026 10:28

@aquitodavia if that’s not too nosy! 😆

Great to hear about everybody’s updates. Well done on navigating things. Have a great holiday @kljdhs877.

I am a few weeks ahead and currently on week 13. Didn’t think I would still be where I am. Had losses of about 0.5kg a week for the first 7-8 weeks (more in the first week or two) and then side effects increased. So I halved my dose and have been building back up since. Whilst the side effects became manageable the weight loss stalled/went up a bit. So currently have lost just under 5kg since starting at the end of Jan. Am back at 2.5mg. I don’t really feel the suppression as I did earlier but planning on staying at this dose for the next 3 weeks and evaluating if weight loss has restarted. I have had a small injury which might also be causing inflammation/water retention. If things don’t move in 3 weeks time I will be moving doses up slightly. Id like to lose another 6-7kg

aquitodavia · 29/04/2026 10:35

Not at all @SandwichesAndGingerBeer! I am 5ft 6 and I started at about 11 stone or just over (although when I was weighed for my video call I was showing 11 and a half late in the day and with clothes on. I'm now weighing about 10 stone 5/6 first thing in the morning w/o clothes. (My scales aren't digital and foot position can make a bit of a difference...)

I had in mind I wanted to lose 1.5 stone over 3 months, so if current progress continues I might get there quicker than that. I am only on 0.25, so I don't think I'll go up next month as I don't actually want to go much quicker than this.

IDontKnowWhatYouMean · 29/04/2026 17:43

I had my second jab today.
I lost 4lb in the first week, which I am happy with.

I am extra motivated by a wedding I will be attending in mid-May.
However, both weekends inbetween now and the wedding will be long weekends away in a group setting - I am a bit concerned about how I will manage the crowd food and drink options.

I just wish I'd started earlier - story of my life!

ritala · 29/04/2026 17:55

Let us know how you get on with group settings @IDontKnowWhatYouMean

I have a big birthday bottomless brunch for one of my friends in a month or so (can’t remember exactly when) and for the first time ever, I’m really dreading it. I am (or ‘was’) one of the main party girl drinkers and I don’t even think I’ll be able to manage two drinks! I know it sounds awful, but I just don’t want to go with everyone getting on it and me with my non alcoholic cocktails…. Eeekkk gonna have to suck it up and say I’m on medication (not a lie) and can’t drink?! They’re going to think I’m pregnant, I bet 🤣

Really interesting to hear everyone’s updates.

I’ve been feeling a bit nauseous today. Don’t know if I got a bit too hungry but I’ve been trying to eat small amounts regularly.

I’ve also got a sore throat so maybe I’m a bit under the weather.

I'm in the same position regarding 'expectations'. I'm too old to be pregnant, but there will definitely be questions asked if I'm not keeping up with the pace.
The organiser has asked everyone to bring 8 bottles of wine EACH plus various other beers and spirits - and that's just for the accommodation, without whatever is bought when we are in pubs and restaurants 😱

OnTheTop · 29/04/2026 19:06

8 bottles of wine each????!!!!! 😮

Yes!
It’s over 4 days though, so that’s ‘only’ 2 bottles a day per person 🥴

I haven’t had any alcohol since I started the WLI - I did not enjoy the one glass of non-alcoholic beer I had last weekend but not sure if that was anything to do with the jabs or if I would have hated it under any circumstances.

Softpebbles · 29/04/2026 21:21

Jab 2 done. Did in my thigh as read less side effects 🤷‍♀️

fingers crossed for a repeat of week one.

I did thigh for the first time last week too (going up a dose) and had no SE. Although I did it this morning and I’m feeling a bit nauseous this evening (which is making me nervous as it’s obviously no where near peak yet…)

In my late 50’s and didn’t have a lot to lose, lost it after a couple of months on 2.5. Have been off it for 3 weeks now and after initially gaining 3lbs, I’ve maintained my weight.

I have two large meals a day and I’m not hungry at all like I was prior to the jabs when I was trying to lose weight. Munjaro has been incredible for me in doing hard work and now I don’t need to be hungry to maintain it.

That’s so reassuring to hear, thanks for sharing.
Well fine on your loss and for maintenance 👏👏👏

Did you just take it for 2 months and then just cancel the subscription and completely stop?

Thank you! Yes.. went cold turkey. Had meant to come off gradually, and had one pen in the fridge as a back up which I think mentally helped me. After my last one wore off I was conscious of my digestion speeding up and feeling hunger in between meals.. was tough for around 10 days. I’m enjoying my food again but I know had I been on a higher dose I wouldn’t have been able to stop in the same way.

NinthBestOption · 30/04/2026 08:18

@aquitodavia tgat is excellent progress and exactly what I'm hoping for, I'm sane height and start weight so if I mirror you I'll be very pleased.

Hope it continues for you.

NinthBestOption · 30/04/2026 08:25

Update
Wk2 day 2, down another bit, it's slowing so I'm probably at the end of water weight and hopefully moving to fat.

Felt nauseous yesterday but nothing (so far) today.

Went out for pub lunch yesterday, chose healthy option (fish) , didn't eat the potatoes. That isn't unusual for me but I'd normally start picking at the potatoes so maybe there is some bluntness to my appetite.

Softpebbles · 30/04/2026 09:01

@IDontKnowWhatYouMean I would be floored with half a bottle of wine, jabs or no jabs 😂

Never been bothered by alcohol, I’m more sweets and snacks 🤯

NinthBestOption · 30/04/2026 15:31

I may be losing interest in food. Mind blowing .

I still feel hungry to the point of a rumbling stomach but when I think about getting something to eat I'm not really that bothered. Don't know whether it's the jabs or absolute boredom with my diet foods. Maybe both.

I could def still eat a packet of chocolate biscuits but easy enough to choose not to. Maybe this is how normal people live.

NinthBestOption · 30/04/2026 15:43

So, I'm thinking about maintenance. How's that for optimism? !

I hope to not go up through the doses so could reduce dose or frequency when I hit my target weight with the plan to see whether I'd be able to stop.

You need to order pens at least every 6 weeks to stay eligible, it looks like people just do that and stockpile.

Its such a shame that you'd need to regain significant weight to go back on them if you're unsuccessful after stopping.

Anyone thinking ahead like this? Any plans?

NinthBestOption · 30/04/2026 15:55

Another question, sorry.

Are you doing anything to minimise costs?

I'll be switching provider when I can. And I'm going to take my 0.25mg doses from a 0.5mg pen, you can use them for 6 weeks from first dose so that's 7 doses, around £12 a dose, cheaper than my weekly biscuit habit 😆

I see some people use the pen for ages, I'm not much of a risk taker!

Can't think of any other ways. I'm not particularly price sensitive but don't need to waste money either.

@NinthBestOption
I am wondering the same. I've been having some side effects so far on 2.5mg and not sure I'll be increasing to 5mg just yet, but I am considering keeping the 5mg pen that is due to be delivered (rather than ordering another 2.5mg instead) and taking half doses from it. It feels naughty, and officially would take the pen (MJ) over 30 days, but would save so much money. And if the side effects ease up, I'd have the option to increase dose mid month........🤔

aquitodavia · 30/04/2026 16:25

Hmm that's a good shout, I've just reordered a 0.25 but I could change it. I am thinking about maintenance yes @NinthBestOption, I guess stockpiling is the only option? Is the 6 week thing the same everywhere?

I did also see a reference on another thread to a provider - Oushk - offering an actual maintenance plan, I haven't looked into it though.

I feel similar to you @NinthBestOption, I might feel hungry but then I just don't actually fancy it when it comes to it. I am essentially eating similarly to how I was, as I was eating quite healthily before - I am just eating much smaller portions and less carbs. Which is the habit I'd like to embed really.

kljdhs877 · 30/04/2026 17:47

SwiftDr lets you do 7-8 weeks apparently (haven’t tested yet)
