BMI under 27 - Off Label/less to lose

ritala · 29/03/2026 12:17

I am mid 40’s and just can’t lose the weight like I used to. I’m fed up of losing and gaming the same two pounds. I’m about a stone and a half more than my happy weight (where I would be approx bmi 23).

I have tried to find a thread for people who have been approved ‘off label’ Wegovy or Mounjaro with less to lose but couldn’t find one, so thought I’d start here. I have a BMI higher than 25 but less than 27 with a couple extra health conditions. Hoping to start after Easter. I’d like to stay with a very low dose if possible. Half a pound a week loss would be good for me. I really want to avoided side effects.

Anyone who is in a similar boat and wants to share experiences or ask questions, please join! X

hello everyone, I took first dose the day my order arrived. Didn’t really think twice about potential side effects😆 Luckily I’m feeling really ok! Yesterday I felt bit nauseous and burped quite often like when you have stomach flu. Today just appetite supression. My husband started with me and he’s really nauseous and coffee with cow milk made him vomit

That's not surprising as your dose is minuscule.

How about treating your SE more vigorously as soon as they appear.

The only side effect I had during that first week was insomnia- but it was enough to leave me very low and not able to function properly in my role.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could treat that?

If you really want it and can’t get it prescribed just lie about your height or weight. I knocked 2 inches off my height to get it. It took me from a bmi of 29 to 30. You might have to knock a few more off or hold a weight while you’re standing on the scales for the picture. And before the holier than thou gang come for me, I’ve lost 3 stone, gone from bmi of 29 to 23, no longer have high cholesterol, am fitter than ever, eating habits are better than ever, massively improved my performance at my sport, which has massively improved my level of happiness. I’m early 40s and had been trying for years to lose this weight and it just would not shift so I have no problem with a bit of exaggeration in order to get something which has literally been life changing and hugely improved my health

With a BMI of 29 I would have thought you could get it now without lying? I believe it’s when BMI is 27 and under that things become trickier for people.

I’ve had one can of cider this evening and don’t feel like I want another which was the case last time I was on mounjaro. It helps with the weight loss but I do enjoy a drink sometimes!
I didn’t eat anything until 1pm today, I could have eaten before but I wasn’t starving. Was hungrier yesterday and ate 1900 calories. On 1500 ish today I think.

You could try an antihistamine at bedtime.

Ffs I am awake early again. Went to bed at midnight, awake before 4.

Day 3 for me. Nausea eased a little yesterday, I'm thinking about food constantly and went out to eat and finished the lot with room for dessert so pretty sure there's no suppression there.

So I think at the moment it's a placebo and I'm just dieting like I normally do. Hope it kicks in soon.

Down 0.5kg. Water weight I'm sure.

After signing up two weeks ago with Voy I finally did my first jab yesterday. I was travelling away for work for the past week and was fed very well, so looking forward to slowing down and eating less!
I too wasn’t sure if the jab had actually gone in as I didn’t feel anything, but the injection site was a bit tingly for a few hours after so I assume it worked.
I have only told my husband, I was considering telling my PT but through other conversations I’ve had with her, I don’t think she is a supporter. I am hoping for a slow and steady loss which can be explained by calorie counting and willpower 🤣.
Im hoping side effects are minimal, I will have to travel again next quarter and am worried about facing the same quantities of food, and not wanting to insult our hosts. I’m also hoping I won’t be too tired and can maintain my workouts as I’ve recently had some PBs in terms of weights lifted.

JustBlossom · 25/04/2026 08:20

I am on day 2 - took my first injection Thursday evening. So far not feeling much difference - had a sensible day of eating yesterday and didn’t feel hungry/the urge for snacks but think that’s probably placebo more thank anything! I’m tracking my meals etc so will see how the next few days pan out for me. Excited to be on this journey at last 😊

Yes. I switched yesterday with a healthy BMI. Just had the delivery notification that the pen is coming today! I had to give a picture of my last box, some ID and a video showing my body and my figure on the scales. It’s seen as a continuation of prescription rather than new so you don’t need a consultation. They didn’t ask anything about how long I’ve been on it or what I originally weighed.

Can I ask what company you switched to and what your BMI is? Mine will be under 27 soon. I'm on Mounjaro through Voy and asked a few companies if they would prescribe me, and one said yes I could switch (The Family Chemist), another said no. I also asked Voy if I'd be able to come back if needed and their answer seemed to effectively be no (which makes no sense and seems designed to block switching). Interestingly though, Voy offered me a £50 discount (initially £0, then £30, then £50) to stay. However, I think I can save at least another £35 by switching. No complaints about Voy other than price! If anyone can suggest other companies that would accept me, or thinks it's best to stay with Voy, open to input!

kljdhs877 · 25/04/2026 09:07

@TheLette SwitchDr and my BMI is 22 now. I’d be very surprised if Voy wouldn’t let you back. Normally you just need to prove you have been on it in the last 4 weeks with a photograph of your labelled box, you’d be classed as a maintenance customer.

OnTheTop · 25/04/2026 09:50

I’m on day 7 following my first jab and I’m feeling great. The joint pain in my fingers has reduced, I’m at the start of my period but I don’t feel bloated like I often do.

MessyNDepressy · 25/04/2026 10:13

Weighed in yesterday morning although I forgot to do it before the gym and drinking a whole bottle of water 🤦‍♀️ but I’m down another 2.8lbs. Happy with that, I’m aiming to lose around 2lbs a week so hopefully I can stay on track.

I feel like I can definitely see a difference in my mid section but yesterday I went to buy some shorts and walked out slightly traumatized with no shorts. I just felt huge in everything.

Took my third jab last night, here’s hoping for another good week.

Hi. Don't worry about any of this.
2.5mg of MJ is not always effective for many people.
Usually, going up to the 5mg dose leads to much better suppression.

Beachforever · 25/04/2026 13:24

Thank you @ritala for letting me know about this thread after being harassed on my own thread re microdosing MJ.

I started on Tuesday with 0.5mg MJ and will be slowly titrating up to 2.0mg over the next 6 weeks. I am at the upper end of healthy BMI and would like to get towards the lower end, so lose around 5-6kg.

I haven’t experienced any side effects as yet. No weight loss either, but I have started my period today and I would usually put on a few pounds of water weight before my period but haven’t this month. Not sure if that’s due to the MJ.

Another thing, since I stated my periods 35 years ago, I have had horrific period pains. This month, absolutely nothing. I was so surprised to see my period had arrived as I had no cramps.

The only thing I can put this down to is MJ. Has anyone else found their periods to be easier on WLI’s?

NinthBestOption · 25/04/2026 13:44

That is interesting @Beachforever I'll watch out for that. Wli are supposed to reduce inflammation so I think it's possible.

I haven't seen your other thread but sorry you got harassed. People are defensive, it's understandable given some attitudes , but it's turned into gate keeping.

kljdhs877 · 25/04/2026 13:44

@Beachforever welcome,
this is a safe space! It’ll be interesting to see how you get on with such a low dose. I’m hoping to lose 20lb (16lb down so nearly there!) I’d like to microdose 1.25mg a week to maintain long term, I’ve gone up as high as 5mg though because I’m impatient ha (will only stay on this for 2 weeks I think, I’m nearly at target now). How much are you paying through the clinic if you don’t mind me asking?

As for periods, it’s funny you mention, end of last year I went to the Drs got suddenly very painful periods, but I haven’t had the issue since starting MJ in January, so maybe!

NinthBestOption · 25/04/2026 13:51

Is anyone tracking what they eat? I'm not calorie counting as such, I'm eating smaller portions of my usual meals and then telling chatgpt to track which is very quick and easy..

I'm not getting enough protein but I can't see how it could fit in. Typical menu for me (now and before)
Greek yoghurt with chopped nuts and seeds
Something pulse related for lunch eg dhal
Fish and roasted veg or chicken curry or fajita bowl
Maybe nuts or cheese or something for a snack

Limited carbs, no upf, lots of veg.

I struggle to hit 50g protein with this.

Beachforever · 25/04/2026 13:55

@kljdhs877 thank you! I’m paying £190 per month. I know I could get it cheaper if I lied to an online prescriber (as I kept being reminded on my last thread) but I don’t want to lie. And £190 is easily affordable for me especially as I’ve decided to give up Botox!

kljdhs877 · 25/04/2026 13:57

@NinthBestOption I’m not at the moment, can’t really be bothered. I feel good, I’m losing. When I get back from holiday in a month I should hopefully be at target so that’s when I will switch to maintenance mode and more thoughtfully consider my food, though I don’t want to track strictly. Like you say it’s more that I want to make sure I get enough protein. It’s a struggle atm as not very hungry but this will be temporary.

kljdhs877 · 25/04/2026 13:59

@Beachforever that’s really interesting to know and cheaper than I thought. So as it’s microdosing there isn’t a minimum BMI? Good to know if the off labelling rules change with usual providers!

TheCovetedDuchessRose · 25/04/2026 14:05

I’m down 3lb in 12 days, happy enough with that. I was so hungry Wednesday and Thursday but don’t think I was eating enough, I actually felt faint Thursday morning.
i feel much better today after eating 4 small meals yesterday.
. My oldest son asked if we could have a McDonald’s at lunch so I took him when out shopping and I couldn’t finish a happy meal!!! Normally I can scoff a large meal and have room for a small
mcflurry!
I go out with friends next week, it would be nice to drop another couple of pounds before then.
My main aim is to look killer on our cruise in August!

Yes, no bmi restrictions. To be honest, the clinic offers more than just microdosing and I get the impression that if I wanted to increase beyond microdosing levels then that wouldn’t be completely off the table.

The clinic said to me that they don’t place too much stock in BMI as it’s too variable depending on body composition. They look at other factors.

kljdhs877 · 25/04/2026 14:19

@Beachforever makes sense to me. My BMI was only 25 but I know I’m healthier now, I’m drinking less, I’m eating better, I’ve no doubt I’m reducing risk factors for a number of health conditions and cancers. Obesity isn’t the only marker of a poor diet!

NinthBestOption · 25/04/2026 14:32

Oh was it Healand? I would have gone there if I hasn't been able to get them legitimately. Wli feel so risky to me, I want to be honest about everything.

I did think about microdosing from my pen, but decided to try the full (0.25ml) dose and it seems fine so I'll stay on it and see.

I posted on the half life yesterday, by the time you reach steady state you're easily getting twice the dose you are injecting.

Yes Healand.

Sorry, what do you mean about half life?
