BMI under 27 - Off Label/less to lose

ritala · 29/03/2026 12:17

I am mid 40’s and just can’t lose the weight like I used to. I’m fed up of losing and gaming the same two pounds. I’m about a stone and a half more than my happy weight (where I would be approx bmi 23).

I have tried to find a thread for people who have been approved ‘off label’ Wegovy or Mounjaro with less to lose but couldn’t find one, so thought I’d start here. I have a BMI higher than 25 but less than 27 with a couple extra health conditions. Hoping to start after Easter. I’d like to stay with a very low dose if possible. Half a pound a week loss would be good for me. I really want to avoided side effects.

Anyone who is in a similar boat and wants to share experiences or ask questions, please join! X

Are you using an app to track everything?

I've got the voy one but I'll change from them at some point, Shotsy seems well used. I'm also a Zoe member so log my meals on there anyway.

slartibartfastina · 22/04/2026 14:33

Re drinking - I have found this too, while a drink still tastes nice, I don’t get a buzz from it and can’t finish a second. I just lose interest and think, “why am I drinking that?” Like it has the appeal of a lukewarm flat Coke. So far I am happy about this as alcohol calories have been an obstacle for me in the past but i suppose at some point I may miss it, on holiday or at a party.

RockChik · 22/04/2026 16:57

I’m obviously an anomaly because I still enjoy alcohol and still drink waay too much 😬 Tbf, when I first started on MJ it did affect the amount I drank as even though I was still drinking regularly I didn’t fancy it as much after a couple of drinks. Unfortunately that effect has now worn off and I’m back to drinking as before. All I would say is that I drink less beer now as I get full on it and switch to wine.

This is what I’m worried about! 😳🤣 Do you include your alcohol calories?

Yes I do 🙈 Which is know isn’t healthy but I obviously have somewhat of a dependency on alcohol, which I was really hoping would be helped by MJ 😔

aquitodavia · 22/04/2026 17:17

I've been significantly hungrier since last night which is weird, I took my last dose Sunday (my 2nd). Has anyone else had that? I'm starting to worry something went wrong with my last dose because I accidentally took my finger off the dosing button before doing the slow count to six (I then put it back on and did that).

I do think I will go up to .5 next time - can anyone who has switched provider let me know if you can do that while stepping up your dose? Or would it be better to stay where I am to do that and switch next time?

kljdhs877 · 22/04/2026 17:58

@aquitodavia it hasn’t been linear for me. Some weeks it works much better than others even if the same dosage. They say you only need to worry about going up a dose if you’re appetite has no suppression and weight has plateaued for 3 weeks.

But everyone is different too, some need to go up the doses faster than others. While others do what they need on 2.5.

I haven’t started my MJ journey yet (am on a cruise enjoying all the food and drink first! 🤣) but when I do, I so hope it switches off the alcohol noise!
Are you still losing weight?

I've been reading up on side effects and how best to avoid them. Seems to be about eating really small portions frequently (nausea/vomiting), slow weightloss (gall stones/pancreatis) , soluble fibre and water (constipation).

This is how I’ve been approaching my eating and early days but all good so far.

MessyNDepressy · 22/04/2026 20:16

Week 2 day 5 for me. No side effects at all this week. Similar to last week, the suppression is wearing off a little today but I expected it this time so I’ve still stayed on track. Other days I have eaten when I know I should be but today I was actually hungry for lunch and dinner. Eating between 1500-1800 calories with a minimum of 120 grams of protein. Keeping to my workouts and hitting 10k steps per day so all is going well! I’m on my period this week too so it’s a miracle that I haven’t fallen off. I’m only weighing myself once a week so that won’t be till Friday morning.

I've booked one with Voy for tomorrow morning - planning to do my first injection in the evening tomorrow. Would be great to know if it was useful!

I’ve just done it - I thought it was useful and worthwhile doing.
No brand new information, but it was very clearly presented and it was nice to get reassurance and clarification on everything that’s in the app.
There was also plenty of opportunity to ask questions at the end.
Apart from the host, everyone had their cameras off and the host had also disabled everyone’s microphones, so it’s very anonymous, all comments/questions went in the chat.

I am glad you had.e said this as I am 2 days in from my second dose and I felt really hungry after work today. That is my danger point and I can scoff a load of biscuits if I am not careful. I did manage to say no to biscuits and donuts in an after school meeting but the urge was there! I went back to work Monday and have not felt hungry the last two days.
i am using ChatGPT to track weight and give me advice. It said the hunger was habit but also to expect moments of hunger when on a low dose and just starting. I was worried the injection hadn’t worked!

NinthBestOption · 23/04/2026 05:41

I ended up coming home yesterday after all so did my first jab about 4pm.

Woke up very early and starving this morning, had small amount of Greek yoghurt with seeds which didn't fill the gap at all but 30 mins later I feel quite sick.

Probably nothing to do with the jab, I ate erratically yesterday and probably not enough. Still hungry despite feeling sick, wondering whether I feel sick because I am hungry.

Will walk the dogs then see. I've lost 1kg this week because the conference food was pretty bad.

SandwichesAndGingerBeer · 23/04/2026 07:14

What day of the week is everyone dosing? I took mine mid morning Monday because that was when it arrived and didn’t want to delay but I’m thinking that means it’s wearing off Friday through Sunday which is the hardest part of the week for me. I’m thinking of pushing my second dose back to Tuesday evening.

hellobaby24 · 23/04/2026 09:01

I’m doing mine Monday evening although might push back to Sunday night. I actually find the week harder as am at work and tempted by treats people bring in etc!

kljdhs877 · 23/04/2026 09:02

@SandwichesAndGingerBeer I do Wednesdays. If I get nauseous Friday and Saturday are the worst days. And ensures I have some good suppression on the weekend.

kljdhs877 · 23/04/2026 09:03

Anyone tried injecting somewhere else? I went up to 5mg this week and was a bit nervous about it, I’d heard injecting in the thigh can cause a slower absorption (not a lot of science behind this!) anyway did it yesterday, feeling ok so far….

hellobaby24 · 23/04/2026 10:26

Can I ask are you telling people you are on WLI?

I have only told DH, telling everyone else I’m dieting and upping exercise both of which are true. I’m aiming for a slow steady loss but not sure why I feel I don’t want people to know.

I don’t feel like it’s cheating and am really hoping it’s going to help with me sort my emotional eating but I think a lot of people have very negative views of the drugs which is I think why I’m not keen to share.

kljdhs877 · 23/04/2026 10:39

My mum, DH and people at work know. I won’t be broadcasting it as I had a BMI of 25 so I know people will judge. But equally, I’m not hugely hiding it, if the right conversation comes up I may discuss it. It feels much less stigmatised now, if I’d have discussed on here wanting to go on WLI at a BMI of 25 a year ago I’d have been torn to shreds.

When I told people at work, they were mostly hugely interested!

Softpebbles · 23/04/2026 10:48

@hellobaby24 I am like you. I have only told DH. It’s for stress/emotional eating. I’ve put a stone on in the last year and am trappped in a cycle of feeling meh and not exercising and then comfort eating. I maintained a healthy weight for years prior to this.

I had my first dose last night.

aquitodavia · 23/04/2026 10:53

My family and two closest friends know, they are all interested, but I probably won't massively advertise it beyond that, having said that I might if it came up and felt appropriate, I agree it's not as stigmatized now as it was.

MessyNDepressy · 23/04/2026 10:58

@hellobaby24 I haven’t mentioned it to anyone. DS14 knows as it’s in the fridge but that’s it. If it comes up in conversation or people ask I won’t lie but I have no interest in other people’s opinions/judgement on it.

kljdhs877 · 23/04/2026 13:48

I hide the jabs behind the vegetables so my kids have no idea 😂

NinthBestOption · 23/04/2026 14:02

DH and my best friend have been told. I've discussed the theory with various other people before I decided to go for it and all were positive if a little concerned by side effects.

I hope for a nice steady loss and generally the people I associate with wouldn't comment on weight so prob won't particularly notice.

NinthBestOption · 23/04/2026 14:05

Do people here have a target weight or bmi in mind? I don't but I also don't want to go low, I was happy with my body when 10.5 stone which was a dress size 10-12 and bmi about 22/23.

I think it could be tempting to keep going down whilst it's working, I think they will let you keep going to bmi 19 which seems very lean.
