BMI under 27 - Off Label/less to lose

ritala · 29/03/2026 12:17

I am mid 40’s and just can’t lose the weight like I used to. I’m fed up of losing and gaming the same two pounds. I’m about a stone and a half more than my happy weight (where I would be approx bmi 23).

I have tried to find a thread for people who have been approved ‘off label’ Wegovy or Mounjaro with less to lose but couldn’t find one, so thought I’d start here. I have a BMI higher than 25 but less than 27 with a couple extra health conditions. Hoping to start after Easter. I’d like to stay with a very low dose if possible. Half a pound a week loss would be good for me. I really want to avoided side effects.

Anyone who is in a similar boat and wants to share experiences or ask questions, please join! X

My first Voy order is being delivered tomorrow - they certainly don’t hang around!

I’m really keen to start asap but I do have a social event on Tuesday evening where the 3 course meal has been pre-ordered ages ago and there’s no flexibility to have less than 3 courses (I suppose it’s possible to just not eat it but I have literally no life experience of ever leaving food on the plate so I have no idea if that’s something I could do!) I don’t want to get ill by eating and drinking too much straight after the first dose.

Those who have already started - how did you feel in the first couple of days? Would you advise leaving it until Wed to do my first jab?

Hi I’m also a newbie with voy, did my first dose last Monday. I felt quite spaced out on Tuesday & Wednesday alongside some mild but noticeable nausea. If I was in your position I’d wait & do it the day after your evening out. Good luck!

SandwichesAndGingerBeer · 18/04/2026 19:54

So I bit the bullet and had my call tonight and been approved. After I posted last week I thought I’m just going to try to eat healthy myself and utterly failed this week so thought fuck it, let’s just get this done. I’m sure I can maintain once I reach goal weight.

I didn’t want to spend that much money but my clothes are getting tight, so it’s not like staying the way I am is cost neutral!

slartibartfastina · 18/04/2026 19:58

@Franks55you can buy extra needles very cheaply on Amazon. I think I just searched for Ozempic pen needles and found them instantly.

Proteinpudding · 18/04/2026 20:19

I'm not on WLI but I am getting curious after trying and failing to lose weight for a long time (suspect I'm in peri and it's another 'the usual methods are no longer working)
I'm only just over BMI 25 though and I'm a bit nervous about the prospect of being judged on a video consultation, can anyone tell me what they involve? I'm a bit worried about being judged as a fraud for asking, or just the idea of someone looking at my figure to judge if I'm fat enough!

If I didn't qualify I'd accept it, I'm just a bit body conscious and hate video calls at the best of times!

Softpebbles · 18/04/2026 20:30

The call wasn’t at all judgemental, you have to show them yourself - I suppose to make sure you aren’t holding weights! I was on the cusp of being accepted and drank a big bottle of water before the call.

I did explain that I’d been trying to lose weight unsuccessfully after putting nearly a stone on due to stress eating and unstable hormones, and wanted to feel more comfortable for an event. Menopause seems to have made it really hard.

I shall be joining you all next week!

Proteinpudding · 18/04/2026 20:41

Thanks @Softpebbles do you mind me asking who you went with - seems Voy are the main ones doing the off label/low dosing?
I'm already eating well, batch cooking meals so I'm eating nutrious/high protein/high fibre, strength train, tried calorie counting etc and I'm happy to continue with all that. I'm just finding it really hard not to give in to cravings for sugary foods or even healthy extra snacks, and despite best plans I always end up at higher overall calorie intake than I want. I'm only short so I don't have much wriggle room with the amount of calories I need.

I’m short too - a stone is a LOT for me!

I didn’t have a video call with Voy, just filled in the info and they asked for a photo, then sent the prescription.

Is it not suppressing your appetite/cravings?
I’m planning to start it soon. Just worried I’ll be paying a fortune for the food noise to continue!

Proteinpudding · 18/04/2026 21:54

@Greenfingers37 I think you might have quoted the wrong person or misunderstood my post, I haven't got a prescription yet, I'm thinking of seeing if it's possible for me because I can't seem to get any further with 'traditional' methods. But yes it's the cravings that I would like to get some help with if possible.

Proteinpudding · 18/04/2026 21:58

Thanks @IDontKnowWhatYouMean I have heard they've got stricter about prescribing though, and are more likely to require videos not just photos. I'm not trying to dupe anyone, just a bit unsure esp as I'm aware I'm 'borderline' and feel really awkward on camera (too many zoom calls in covid times!)

Oh I’m sorry! I’m on holiday and have had a few wines! 🤣

NinthBestOption · 18/04/2026 22:13

OK I'm joining.

Im 5'5/6 and was an easy 10.5st through 20s and early 30s, 10st with an effort when I wanted to be slim for an event. Could honestly eat whatever and stay at 10.5.

Then baby made me 14st and stuck at 12. Major effort when DC was 5 got me down to 11st and maintained that til peri about 45. I'm 50 now and struggling to stay 11st 4lb, 2 meals a day, 1400 call, no carbs, plenty of exercise. If I relax I gain immediately.

Just back from hols where I was very restrained, weighing 11.6 so bmi near 27. Also high cholesterol and inflammation.

Accepted by Voy, I considered healand health for microdosing but feel I could do it myself.

I thought I might be rejected, despite my bmi I am a good shape, it's all boobs and hips so I don't look very big.

I am not sure I'm willing to go beyond 2.5 dose. Despite research saying its very safe I'm cautious. Hoping it'll just curb my appetite a bit so I can reduce portion size without being starving, I'm already ridiculously healthy for diet and exercise . Fed up of thinking about food all the time and hoping it'll help hip and knee pain.

Pen due wed/Thu, I've signed for 6 months. I'd appreciate support on this thread x

Mine was yesterday if that helps.

I did take a few photos on my phone to see what I looked like before doing the upload, I definitely didn’t lie but it was in the evening when I was probably at my most unflattering and heaviest.

Proteinpudding · 18/04/2026 22:23

Ah thanks that's useful to know @IDontKnowWhatYouMean And yeah that's a good point I'm probably less borderline than I think, given I usually weigh myself first thing in the morning 😂

NinthBestOption · 18/04/2026 22:46

Yes, I only weigh myself naked in the morning. 1.5kg heavier in the evening, plus clothes!

SandwichesAndGingerBeer · 19/04/2026 08:48

@Proteinpudding @NinthBestOption

I did my call last night too - it was after home cooked f&c with clothes on and I was 76kg, as opposed to this morning pre shower, post toilet (sorry TMI!), no clothes which was 74kg.

OnTheTop · 19/04/2026 14:49

I’m back from my lovely weekend away so am finally ready to get started! Did my first injection just now and I’m interested to see how I respond.

NinthBestOption · 19/04/2026 16:16

I have tried putting my details in at some cheaper sites, they all accept me despite my 26ish bmi. Presumably it's a scam - I pay, we have call where they tell me my bmi is too low, they take a week or so to refund my money helping their cash flow.

NinthBestOption · 19/04/2026 16:19

Had a look at some of the under 27 bmi start weights on. reddit. We really have lost sight of what a healthy weight body looks like.

I think when you see the large bmi go to low it's hard to process but when you see size 16 to size 10 it's more obvious.

It seems to vary what they ask for a bit, even for different users on the same sites. I'm borderline too and Voy didn't ask me for photos, they wanted a call but they didn't look at my body at all on it, they just asked me to get on the scales (this was later in the day, post food and with clothes on so I came up heavier than I would normally - the timing of your call can definitely help!)

I had previously tried MedExpress, I actually gave up as I scheduled three video calls with them only to be left waiting on the line. Initially they had just asked for a photo so I am not sure whether it was because of what I sent that I was flagged for a video call.

It’s so odd how inconsistent it is, I had to submit a photo to Voy but never had to have a call.

Proteinpudding · 19/04/2026 19:24

@aquitodavia thanks, yes I read on here that medexpress advertised that they could prescribe under BMI 27 but that the calls were unreliable and the clinicians on them were still saying it had to be 27+.
I have done the initial sign up for voy but I'm going to try and do the call tomorrow (for anyone who hasn't done it, I was expecting to book an appointment but actually they just have a virtual waiting room you can jump into at any point) I haven't told DH I'm trying it so want to wait till he's out!

aquitodavia · 19/04/2026 19:40

Good luck! Yes the virtual waiting room is very handy, I didn't have to wait at all.

IDontKnowWhatYouMean · 19/04/2026 20:49

I've already received my first package, but have also had an email from Voy inviting me to sign up for a 'Getting Started' video session. However, when I click on the link in the email, it just takes me to the general account page where I can't see an option to schedule anything.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?
