How easy is it to count clicks?

I’m starting to plateau now on 2.5mg mounjaro, I want to go to 5mg but nervous as I really struggled with side effects. I’m thinking of maybe getting a 5mg pen working my way up to 5mg, is it really as easy to do as they say? Any guidance?

Sorry I know the clicking won’t be hard, but more the accuracy of knowing what’s going in etc!

Yes it’s straightforward, I did similar when I went from 5mg to 7.5mg.

Turning the pen to the 1 position is 60 clicks, which gives you the standard 0.6ml full dose from whatever strength pen you have. So from a 5mg pen, doing 30 clicks would give you a 2.5mg dose. You just have to count each click carefully. The pen markings will help you to keep track, and when you get to 30 you can use a sharpie to make a mark on the barrel of the pen so you don’t have to count next time. You then just inject as normal.

Doing 45 clicks would be a 3.75mg dose from a 5mg pen, and so on.

I've counted clicks since December. I count once, double check and then mark with a pen, so that I don't need to count each time. Currently taking 3.75 from a 5 pen.

Counting clicks is easy. I count out loud so I dont lose my place. I've never marked the pen but that's a good idea! I've gone from 2.5 to 5 over 2 months.

If you plan on staying on that dose for the duration of your pen, mark the line with a sharpie then twist the pen to that line the following week.

Very easy. Just go slow and count.. you will be fine. Lots of charts to tell you the amount if you just google it.

I could have written this and have, just today, started thinking about increasing slowly up to 5mg.

I have been on 2.5mg since October 25 and have lost 3 stone, but I am definitely getting the nibbles back and thinking about food more again.

Unlike you, I haven't had any side effects on 2.5mg, but have read that the jump up to 5mg can be quite difficult for some people so I am a bit worried about side effects and would rather titrate up slowly.

Counting clicks is easy enough. I just make sure I'm somewhere quiet so I don't get distracted. Otherwise I end up losing track and having to count again especially if it's a lot of clicks.
I've done both way, using a 10mg pen for 12.5mg so doing extra clicks. And also using a 15mg pen for 12.5mg so doing less clicks. No need to waste a pen, they are too expensive.

Does anyone have a chart with click numbers please?

@YesssSpringHasSprung You don’t need a chart, it’s just a very straightforward calculation.

(dose you want in mg / pen strength in mg) x 60

That’s all it is. So if you want 3.75mg from a 5mg pen, it would be (3.75 / 5) x 60, which gives you 45 clicks.

Thanks all. I’ve ordered my 5mg pen which will be here this week. I have 2 x 2.5mg doses left (one is golden dose) but I am tempted to just give myself 5mg next week and see how I go as I don’t have any plans next weekend!

I want to get a 3.75 dose from my 2.5 pen which is 90 clicks. Can I click past the '1' and get the full 90 clicks in one go, or do I have to do 60 + 30 (and change needle?)

No, the pen does not turn past the 1 position, so you would need to do a 60 then a 30, as you say.

D day tomorrow. Very tempted to just have a go at 5mg.

I did that then spent the week vomiting - I’d go up slowly.

I did 3.75mg and felt absolutely nothing! I haven’t weighed in a couple of weeks, I’m doing so tomorrow, if I’ve not moved I’m going for 5.

I have just done a month on 2.5mg with very little side effects and took a 5mg dose on Monday and have felt terrible since. I think I want to go back to the 2.5mg but don’t think I have 30 clicks in my pen let alone 60. Am I missing something or have I got the wrong pen?

@Strowan1960 clicks is standard no matter the dosage, can you put a photo of the pen you have? Mounjaro??

@Strowan19 “clicks” refers to the marks on the pen (and the little click sound they make) that are visible when you wind the pen out to the 1 position before injecting. There are 60 of those line marks. If you have done one dose from a 5mg pen then you will have 3 of those doses left. If you want to do a 2.5mg dose, instead of winding the pen out to the 1 position, you only turn it half way which is 30 line markers or clicks. Then you inject as normal.

Also just to add, you could do 45 clicks to get 3.75mg for a more gradual increase to 5mg. I did 5mg a couple of times and felt awful, 3.75mg was enough for me.

I’ve gone up gradually over several months with steady losses and I’m now on 4.5mg.

Now you’ve got the hang of click counting, maybe try going up to 3.5mg next time? 42 clicks.

Hey I’m back again with another question. Managing the clicks and 2.5mg is working well for me. Problem now is I’m going on holiday for 2 weeks and can’t take pen with me which I am absolutely fine with. I am due my next dose on Tuesday and we fly out on Saturday. Has anyone taken an extra dose. I’m thinking if I could take another on Saturday morning before I leave I will have less time without it. I will still be within the 5mg so I can’t really see it being an issue but don’t want to feel ill on my holidays. Thanks for all your help so far x x x
