I did think about starting a new thread (and might for some specific advice) but I wanted to share first with you lovely lot.

Just seen a consultant. Diagnosed with gall stones and need a gall bladder removal. I’ve got to stop Mounjaro until after surgery. No taper, just stop. He says I can start afterwards again but no idea how to find someone who’ll take me. And how do I manage going cold turkey?

I’m 1st from my goal now and fitting into my target size clothes. I’m devastated and so worried the weight will pile on.

[Will be thinking of you tomorrow @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne]

Sorry to hear that, must be very scary. Personally, if it were me I would work out maintenance calories and try and stick to those rather than trying to carry on losing. Might be easier psychologically to give yourself 'permission' to eat a bit more rather than try and be restrictive and struggling and risking a reactive binge (I know that's how it would go for me, your psychology around food may be different). You are so close to your target that maintaining for now and then finishing off when you've had your surgery may be a better option than risking the gain.

Novjaro · 23/02/2026 20:44

All the best for tomorrow @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne, hope it all goes smoothly.

PearlsTeapot · 23/02/2026 20:51

Good luck @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I wish you all the luck with your early start!! And hope your procedure goes well.

This is really good advice, I would focus on maintenance too so as not to gain rather than try and continue losing. While you have a break to recover from surgery. Then find a provider and restart?

Ooh!
Tonight I've had honey and mustard chicken, roast celeriac and peas.

I then had an orange jelly with cream.

As I've got my day surgery tomorrow, I decided to finish my dinner off with a packet of wine gums.

I'm going to bed at 8pm because we're leaving at 04.30. Groan.

Nice, too late for tonigh5 bu5 good luck tomorrow hope it goes well xxx

Doggymummar · 23/02/2026 21:10

Oh, that's such a worry for you. I have seen plenty of people without gallbladder who have been prescribed but I would wait till you recover. I know oushk would accept you but they are at the more expensive end of i5 price wise.

Theringcycle · 23/02/2026 13:08

Yup there is a bit of this I am feeling, definitely. I like hearing from others starting at the same time but I will be on this journey for a lot longer than many. On a happier
note, my fasting blood sugar is MUCH improved already. (I am NHS-prescribed for T2 diabetes).

Hi @Theringcycle, I joined this group at around the same time as you and @Castlebark. We're all starting off at roughly the same weight at the same time. Looks like we are the 2026-intake on this thread.

I looked at the February starters thread too and no disrespect to them, but I don't feel that I have much in common with someone who only has a couple of stone to lose.

PearlsTeapot · 23/02/2026 21:39

That’s the downside of the month threads. I lasted less than a week on mine! This thread is my home where we all Get It.

day 1 after jab day and I always feel such good suppression, I wish I could feel like this every day! Today I had Greek yogurt with berries and honey for breakfast and a coffee, lunch I had out so I had a tuna and cheese jacket (ate half), met a friend for a Starbucks and had a pistachio latte, then salmon and cups cous for dinner. Followed by some grapes. Wish I could eat like this every day with no hunger and no interest in anything more!

OvertiredandConfused · 23/02/2026 22:05

Thanks @RenegadeKeeblerElf and @PearlsTeapot.

The diet I have to follow for a month pre-surgery is fewer calories than I am currently on for weight loss - and much more restrictive. No idea how I’ll manage that at the same time as going cold turkey with Mounjaro.

And not sure where I’ll find a new provider for maintenance after a break of at least three months with a BMI under 30. I guess I’ll just have to wait until I gain enough weight to qualify again or hope my consultant will write to the private GP, who prescribes at the moment, to support restarting

Oof that does sound tough 😥 have they given you any idea how long the wait for surgery might be?

OvertiredandConfused · 23/02/2026 23:12

@RenegadeKeeblerElf Fortunately, I am covered by private health insurance through my husband‘s work so I’m hoping it won’t be too long. I’ll get a much better idea when I managed to speak to his secretary tomorrow.

If it’s longer than 4-6 weeks, which it probably will be, I am slightly tempted to do a lower dose of the Mounjaro for a couple of weeks before going completely cold turkey. I know it won’t be as good as a proper managed withdrawal, but maybe it will help a bit? And I do understand the risks of doing that.

If it’s my choice, then I would actually go for a mid April surgery and reduce the dose a bit over a couple of weeks so that I only go completely free for the requisite minimum four weeks before surgery.

Is that the liver shrinkage diet for the gallbladder op? Very restricting - my partner had to do it.
Re having to take a break from the jabs for the operation, if you’re certain you’re going to go back on could you just continue ordering while you’re not taking it? At least there won’t be a gap then so nothing to explain… Not sure if that would work with your situation with a private GP though.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 24/02/2026 06:06

Sorry to hear that @OvertiredandConfused, the fear of coming off Mounjaro must be overwhelming,
Have you looked at berberine to try and help you in the interim? There are mixed reviews about it, I’ve been reading up on it and bought some liquid berberine (1000mg), I haven’t tried it yet as some say you shouldn’t take it with Mounjaro but it might be worth looking into to see if it helps when you have to come off completely.

eibbed999 · 24/02/2026 06:47

That's a very tough situation @OvertiredandConfused - you've come so far and done so well. I completely understand why you're so anxious. Have you been with the same provider for a long time? If you have a good relationship with them maybe it's worth talking to them about it? You could of course also keep ordering as someone has suggested - I'm never sure how much they actually bother looking at our medical records (though recently a friend of mine got told by Numan that they wouldn't prescribe to her any more - after almost 2 years! - because they'd noticed something on her records from when she was 19!). I'm a gallbladder-free gal myself and many of them will prescribe - a few knocked me back but not many - but as you say the issue for you will be if you are still too light to 'start over'. I wonder if there's a way you could have a conversation with your provider, explain the situation, and somehow get 'put on hold' until after the op? You can't be the first person this has happened to! If your doc agrees to support then that's even better.

It's very frustrating when you've worked so hard. But the pain of gallstones is intense, and you can't live with that, so the op is non-negotiable - this feels big and scary right now, but it also means an end to that terrible pain.

Funny though how they just don't 'get it' - if you found it easy to follow a low-calorie very restricted diet, you probably wouldn't be on MJ in the first place! Hopefully you'll get it done soon - is it keyhole? If so then you'll recover quickly, and can see where you are afterwards.

Missingducks · 24/02/2026 07:26

Good luck today @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne and
Good luck with a date soon @OvertiredandConfused - my chum had the surgery last year and it has taken the awful pain away so significantly improved her life (albeit restricted some of her food choices). Her new menus have meant she has also lost weight and changed shape. You have been looking at your menus already so may not have such a dramatic change coming. But oh the bliss of pain free ...
Another vote for keeping the order going if you can ...

PositiveAttitude · 24/02/2026 08:15

Hope all goes well today @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne
That's so tough @OvertiredandConfused I hope you get a date soon and can move beyond this time.

I am very sad that I have missed the opportunity to be excited that I have lost the weight of an elephants penis!! 🫢

I was hoping to see a 15 on the scales for the first time in a decade today, but it wobbled a bit and settled on 16.0.0, so maybe tomorrow I will tip over!!

Hello fellow 2026 starters @CatAtTheWindow and @Castlebark ! Really nice to know there’s a little cohort of us here.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 24/02/2026 10:37

I was looking back through my weight tracker app last night, to see how long it's been since I was this weight (answer - a long time!), and was shocked to see that a couple of years ago I managed to go from 101.3kg in mid Oct to 115.2kg at the end of December! That's over a 2 stone gain in 6 weeks! Just goes to show how important it will be for me to titrate down slowly and probably stay on a low dose for maintenance as once I fall off the wagon I fall hard!!!

And me! I started in January weighing 128.7 kg (136.5 kg the year before) and thanks to early osteoporosis I'm only 5ft2.

52soon · 24/02/2026 13:59

All the best for today @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne hope it all goes well.

I’ve had this awful virus thing that’s doing the rounds this week and have felt so rough, not really eating much, the scales dropped 3lb between yesterday and today which they’ve never done in a week let alone in a day so I guess when I’m back to normal it’ll work itself out again but nevertheless that 3lb drop takes me to onederland 199lbs so I’m taking it even if it’s only for one day😂

Hi @MrTiddlesTheCat, sorry I missed you out, I didn't notice that you'd only just joined too.

It's nice to have a group of newbies so we can encourage each other along the way.

TragicMuse · 24/02/2026 16:50

I did a 5th day jab last night and it was also golden dose. I carefully checked how much I drew out in my syringe. I checked it at least 3 times. And then I promptly completely forgot how much it was because I’m an airhead!

So it might have been 70ml or 80ml, from a 10mg pen. Which is either 11.25 or 12.5mg. I have no recollection! But my suppression is good today!

I’ve also reset my daily max calories on Nutracheck and have had low cals today. Fingers crossed for a little drop in the next few days…

SilenceInside · 24/02/2026 17:29

0.7ml from a 10mg pen is 11.67mg and 0.8ml from a 10mg pen is 13.33mg, so it would be one of those amounts @TragicMuse
