I'm dithering - anyone else?

I received my first 0.25mg WeGovy injection pen today, but I'm so unsure about whether to go through with it. I have around 20-25lbs to lose. I have always struggled to lose weight despite eating well, swimming training and lifting heavy and it's really got me down. I have coeliac and histamine issues, and have been told that GLP1s have benefits for inflammation, which really appeals. I'd love to be able to stay on a low dose rather than going up to a maximum dose and I wouldn't be against being on a low dose longterm if it works.

My reservations are I guess a fear of side effects, a fear of completely losing the enjoyment I have around food (I love meals out and love to bake) and I guess fear of being on something that has such big effects on the body. I'm driving myself nuts - it's literally all I've thought about for a few weeks (listening to podcasts, reading books and forums etc). I don't know what I expect anyone to say back - just feeling a bit shaky I guess!

Go for it. That’s not a huge amount to lose do you might get there in a couple of months. If you don’t like the side effects you can stop. Suspect you’ll be fine to stay on minimum dose.

nagnagnag · 27/01/2026 13:15

I dithered before I began but I’m glad I went ahead with it now. It does feel like a big decision.

StrongGirlsLift · 27/01/2026 13:22

I get it, but, with kindness, you won’t know until you try!

I started with WG in November and I’m so so happy I did. I’m enjoying using food more - being mindful and easily able to stop so I rarely feel bloated or over full. Few side effects and steady weight loss. I recommend being intentional about water (you’ll feel less thirsty too) and focus on protein and fibre. It’s worth it.

bellabean01 · 27/01/2026 13:26

Thank you guys. I'll need to start upping my protein I think - my PT suggested whey protein powder? I think I will give it a go.

I dithered for weeks. I stalked all the previous months groups thinking should I or shouldn’t I. Nobody from the June to October groups died. I read all sorts of articles, watched various news clips etc, YouTube including anything by Giles Yeo.

Once I did the first jab I was a lot happier and wished I started sooner. And yes, I will probably be a lifer.

You are well informed. Just do it

Nancylancy · 27/01/2026 16:39

I've also been dithering for absolutely MONTHS. I just ordered last night, and now I'm immediately worrying I've made the right decision, should I stick with Wegovy or should I have picked MJ, or should I just try harder with dieting.
Genuinely the only way you'll know is if you try - you don't have to continue if you don't get on with it.
I dithered for absolutely ages about taking anti anxiety medication too - but once I bit the bullet it was life changing and I wish i had just accepted the help years ago. I feel like this could be the same? But doesn't stop the dithering - it does feel like a big decision!
There are things they can advise to help with side effects too so if you did struggle I'm sure you'd be able to get help with it.
I'd just do it.
I'll do the same! I am on a diet at the moment and I have PUT ON weight FFS. I'm so disheartened and have such a low opinion of myself. What's wrong with having a bit of help?

HollyhockDays · 27/01/2026 16:47

I was shaking doing my first injection. I lost about four stone. Go for it.

tobee · 27/01/2026 18:20

I had many of the same fears as you. I started doing my consultation several times, with sweaty palms (😬), and chickened out. I finally went for it beginning of November last year.

It's been very straightforward. Hardly any side effects.

I was worried I'd miss the joy of eating food but it's been completely fine. I can still have and enjoy those things but don't particularly favour some things over others. I don't find (so far) any food causes issues for me. I just eat less. Like over the entire Christmas period, and with a few chocs hanging still, I've eaten about 8 of them. Quality Street sized chocolates iyswim. Whereas before WLI I'd easily eat that in one session.

Yeah I was shaking too.

bellabean01 · 27/01/2026 19:39

Thank you guys, this is so reassuring. I think part of it is feeling nervous about the injection itself. I’m overthinking what day of the week to start, what time of day-any excuse not to just crack on and do it! But this has buoyed me up.

This is reassuring too-I don’t want to not enjoy eating out/a bit of chocolate now and I then!

I’m dithering too, I have been for months. I’m scared of the side effects, short and long term. My GP (in the US) prescribed me the Wegovy tablets yesterday and I haven’t picked them up from the pharmacy.

I know I will regret the months I wasted as soon as I get started but that’s how our brains work sometimes, isn’t it?

bellabean01 · 28/01/2026 08:57

It is the way our minds work-maybe we can all boost each other into stopping dithering and getting going!

OP posts:
SquishyGloopyBum · 28/01/2026 09:34

I dithered! But honestly it becomes natural and you don’t think of doing it. I’ve lost 3 stone and I’m so much more confident and happy.

limited side effects too. Just drink lots of water and avoid greasy foods.

bellabean01 · 28/01/2026 19:33

Thank you! I think I’m going to do it tomorrow!

I still enjoy food, still bake a lot, cook a lot for my family. I have lost 35lbs in 5 months.

Inflammation wise - my eczema and IBS are clear for the first time in decades.

Side effects - occasional nausea, occasional light dizziness when standing up.

The main difference I’ve found between me and friends who have really suffered is that I am teetotal and they drink alcohol. My sister has done dry Jan and says the difference in how she felt before with side effects is massive.

So skip the booze.

rainandshine38 · 28/01/2026 20:10

Yep drinking on this medication makes me feel rough.

Comedycook · 28/01/2026 20:12

I've been on wegovy for about 8 months now and lost over three stone....I kept the pen in my fridge for months and i wad so scared of starting. I wish I'd started earlier, its one of the best things ive ever done.

Nancylancy · 29/01/2026 18:29

bellabean01 · 28/01/2026 19:33

Have you ordered? I'm thinking of ordering tonight!

Binus · 29/01/2026 19:37

Quite normal. I pissed about for months before taking the leap, albeit as soon as it arrived I got started.

Many of us still enjoy chocolate and eating out. It might just look a bit different. I find fish restaurants and small plates style suit me best now, which is hardly a hardship. You could also time your injection day so that whatever day you're most likely to want to eat out is Day 7.

bellabean01 · 29/01/2026 19:59

That’s clever to time the injection-I hadn’t thought of that. I’m generally really restrained around food, but I like the idea of still being interested in it I guess? I don’t want to just feel sick/put off it. I ordered and have the pen in the fridge now. Squeamish about the injection, but I think I’ll do it tomorrow.

HarvestMouseandGoldenCups · 29/01/2026 20:48

You can always do a week and then stop taking it if you don’t like it… you’re not signing your life away. It’s half life is 5 days… so it’ll be over in that time frame if you want it to be.

Pinkchilli · 29/01/2026 22:06

Yes me kept exploring it and still on the fence. Have 3st to lose to get to a healthy weight. This has been a helpful post

SquishyGloopyBum · 29/01/2026 22:06

I took mine in the morning the first few times, got up and did it so I couldn’t talk myself out of it. Also I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep, work distracted me from thinking about side effects.

Go for it op!

Since you've got it I think go for it. If it does make you feel sick, or some other side effect, ok you've tried and it wasn't for you. Just fuck it off. You've lost nothing. But only one way to find out.
