Again I say it’s physiologically impossible

it’s just not possible

It is if you're a woman.
Our hormones and the menopause make a very big difference.

Men's weight loss is different. They lose weight much more quickly when they're in a calorie deficit.

Thanks for the support ladies, we have been here for years, I don't appreciate being called a liar on our own thread

You also said that 2.5mg of MJ wasn't a big enough dose for a man, but you've been proved wrong about that, too.

I had started a book called Why We Eat (too much). It’s got lots about set point, leptin, insulin resistance. I must go back to it…

But as far as I can tell it’s not impossible to move your set point. I want to work on that, definitely.

Can you read the book and fill us in pls ..😃
Sounds like it could be explaining my lull in proceedings

Springflowers2 · 31/01/2026 06:55

eibbed999 · 30/01/2026 16:29

I read that @TragicMuse - I like a bit of popular science! He certainly seemed to know what he was talking about in lots of ways. Though it would be interesting to hear his perspective on WLI. As a bariatric surgeon he probably hates them! But one of the things that stuck in my mind from it was him explaining that sometimes people could have their gastric sleeves fitted etc, and that the procedures would be a success - but some patients (not all, but some) would still never get down to the weight they wanted, no matter how little they ate or how they changed their lives, their bodies would still cling to a certain amount of what they'd gained. I vaguely remember there being a link between the length of time you'd been obese and how hard the body wanted to stay that way!

I actually secretly worry about that ,every time I get a gain or a lull ...
Having yo yo dieted and binged and restricted my whole life ,I think it's bound to have a negative effect somewhere

Springflowers2 · 31/01/2026 07:01

recruitretain · 30/01/2026 16:06

What ? That’s actually impossible not to lose weight on 800 calories for 9 months

it’s physiologically impossible

a person in a coma has to be fed more calories than that just to maintain weight

have you missed a digit on that figure ?

If that's what she said
Then that's what happened
Why would she lie ,it's an anonymous thread
I have had similar experience on very low calories, having binged and restricted my whole life ,lost lots of weight and regained a number of times ,and being female in menopause, with little chance for exercise or steps in ,it is absolutely possible.and indeed happens

Unfortunately I think that's true @Springflowers2, we have probably all done some damage with those patterns over the years. Our body remembers all the tricks we've played on it. BUT I also look at some of the others on this thread and see how they have transformed themselves, and it reminds me anything is possible. I hope Feb is a better month for us both.

Clearly it is possible, as she says that's what happened and I am going to work on the basis that she remembers her own life correctly, and is not for some odd reason lying. I suspect the fact that most women on here have been yo yo dieting and going from phases of binging to phases of starving themselves, plus having long term disordered eating in many cases, may contribute. I'm not a medical professional but that seems to be the case with a lot of women who have been battling obesity in an often chaotic way for decades, sometimes the whole of their lives. That has a powerful impact on the way our bodies process food. You don't have to agree with everything that people say on this thread or indeed any other - we all have our views and are entitled to them - but it is also nice to be respectful.

@recruitretain please take this as a formal warning that this group is here to support each other and not to doubt each other. Enough people outside this group have challenged us over eating and or life experiences. We each have our own story. We can think what we like but we can't write anyone else's story.

Good luck with your own life.

But that’s irresponsible to allow misinformation like that, it could encourage dangerously low calorie intakes and it creates an unsafe environment for all, it’s imperative that as adults we challenge misinformation in all its forms, to not do so would mean that society even a virtual one like this is dangerous, and surly, respectfully, no one wants that ?

MCR24 · 31/01/2026 08:03

God this is like when I was told my OMAD must be huge and calorific because doing OMAD you should lose and I hadn't. Made me feel like shit, as if I didn't know what I was doing and that I was lying, even though I'd already lost a lot of weight.

Please think about what you're posting here. It's possible to be under calories needed and have a stall.

Respectfully, please stop. This is not misinformation - this is one person's genuine experience. You are not calling out a corrupt politician or challenging a fraudster, you are accusing a long-term member of our community of being a liar. Also, you are not our dad - we are all adults and capable of doing our own research, making our own decisions, and coming to our own conclusions.

that’s the issue with misinformation, rational thinking people start to believe it and it then becomes information
What alway is interesting is trying to understand what drives it but your right i will
leave it there, as my mum would tell me there is a truth behind persons story and the truth might be upsetting or tragic so be kind and I’ll try be kind here

in other news I have been accepted for a clinical trial starting at a research unit in Leicester, so once I reach a “healthy” BMI I’ll be potentially joining an oral maintenance drug trial… I don’t have all the details yet I have to do a clinic day In Cambridge next month for Intial monitoring

could be good news for all weight loss injection users

I take your point, sorry if my insistence caused any triggering etc
how long did you persevere with OMAD ?
i have never ever tried it as it sounded hard work

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 31/01/2026 08:27

Well, I think one thing we've all learned over the years is that weight loss/gain is not linear or predictable and bodies alcan do strange things at times. I've lost 2.3kg this week without doing anything particularly different to other weeks, no idea why it's happened, but I'm taking the win as I know there will be plenty of times when I am disappointed in the scales! Sending good vibes to all those who are struggling, I know how hard it is but keep the faith and it will turn around for you soon.

SW 139.7kg
W1 -3.8
W2 -1.9
W3 -1.7
W4 -0.9
W5 -1.5
W6 no change
W7 -2.3
W8 -1.2
W9 -1.3
W10 -0.3

W14 -1.1
W15 -1.6
W16 -1.5
W17 -1.0
W18 -0.9
W19 -1.0
W20 -0.4
W21 -0.2

W29 -2.3

CW 105.8kg, 33.9kg lost in 29 weeks

Thanks guys. I don't want to derail the thread but I've had my first comment on this board in over a decade of being here taken down so I must have upset him. Sorry if that's the case .

Lemondrizzle4A · 31/01/2026 08:37

I’ve lost just over 5 stone and I still feel fat even though I’m a size 12 and many people say don’t lose any more as too skinny. It is strange that we see ourselves as being our old selves. Maybe it just takes time to adjust to our new images. I know in the rare photos I’m captured in I almost don’t recognise myself facially.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 31/01/2026 08:39

..................that’s the issue with misinformation, rational thinking people start to believe it and it then becomes information

Oh please just stop @recruitretain
It was only misinformation according to you.
The rest of us had no trouble believing it.
You're on a very long-running thread where we've all got to know one another.
We are friendly and supportive.

I'd like to suggest that people stop engaging with posters who only seem to be here to argue. It's all very disappointing and unnecessary.
