The hair loss is scaring me - I don’t have much to lose to start with!

Hair loss on mj, will forever continue to separate people
Many say its from rapid weightloss and many side its a mj side effect
I was off the injections for three months and my hair continued to fall out so me personally would say mj side effect
That's why it really is better to have slow and steady weightloss

blackandwhitefluffycat · 01/02/2026 08:22

Google says it is likely due to the resulting nutritional deficiencies, with key deficiencies being iron, protein, zinc and vitamin D. Make sure you’re either eating enough of these or supplementing from the start, and then you know you’re doing all you can.

RedApplePie · 01/02/2026 09:21

I’ve just squeaked into January starters. Had my first MJ on 29/1. Was terrified and have been prevaricating for months. I went to a local pharmacy in the end. I know online is cheaper but I was so terrified I wanted to feel I’d seen someone irl, and had somewhere I could just pop in if I had any issues. I’ll probably stay with them till I feel settled on it. It was all very reassuring, I’d built it up to this massive thing but felt much better after I’d spoken to her. I’m a secret jabber which worries me a bit - no one knows at all, but I just couldn’t face the disapproval and the ‘all you need to do is’ stuff. Anyway. 3rd day, definitely less hungry, and less food noise. Felt a bit sicky for a couple of hours yesterday but nothing terrible.
SW: 14st 4lb
CW: 14st 2lb
GW: not sure. ‘Norma’l BMI max is 11st 5, I’d love to be about 10st 10. Although sadly the last time I was that weight, about 30 years ago I thought I was horribly fat and constantly dieting. Oh, to know then what I know now.

Newstartplease24 · 01/02/2026 09:27

Weigh in day

SW 95.9kg
CW 93.8kg
GW summer 80kg
GW this year 64kg

Newstartplease24 · 01/02/2026 09:32

I’m a lesser mousedeer down. (small hoofed mammal found in Southeast Asia, typically weighs around 2 kg and stands about 45 cm tall)

Blandpedant · 01/02/2026 09:37

1 month weigh in. I have lost a beagle since 1st Jan on MJ (13lb)! 1lb short of the magical stone, but I am happy with that. To reassure anyone who feels they are stalling, I had big losses in week 1 and week 4, but almost nothing in weeks 2 and 3. So keep going, it’s not even but you’ll see the results!

Blandpedant · 01/02/2026 09:40

hmmm I think google may have been lying to me about how much beagles weigh 😂 But still I’ll happily take 13lb!

Newstartplease24 · 01/02/2026 09:40

Welcome @RedApplePie
i have set my target to the top end of “healthy” bmi but I’m mentally flexible on that. I remember well the misery of thinking I was fat all the time and always pushing fit more when really I had about 8lb to lose. WHY. I think that mindset might have caused all my problems - psychologically and metabolically. I’m really really hoping to settle at an ok weight and be ok with it. I’m only on my second week.

I'm a secret jabber too, same reasons. My partner thinks he knows everything about food and nutrition and I just can’t face it.
I think I’ll come clean eventually. If it works I’ll feel a fraud if I don’t. I’m surprised I feel actually quite guilty which is odd as I am quite sure it’s only my business! I might have to fess up as guilt is bad for mental health.

generally I’m struggling mentally. I’m under a lot of pressure and feel quite bleak. I don’t think it’s the wegovy. I think it’s just facing reality without diving into a bowl of chips

Newstartplease24 · 01/02/2026 09:43

I speed-read a scary book that I don’t recommend tjat was written by a bariatric doctor, it made me feel close to death and like everything was going to be grim for ever. I need to just stop over thinking, do the supplements and the exercises and otherwise think about what I enjoy thinking about

Hotfirewood · 01/02/2026 10:02

End of week 5 today and I’m 6kg (13lbs) down since 28th December 😊 My clothes feel so much better!

Just did my second dose of 5mg. Only side effect so far is when I brush my tongue and it makes me retch a few times! Haven’t actually been sick thankfully. Not hungry either.

Just about to buy the needles another poster linked above for the golden dose. I wasted so much liquid when I threw away the 2.5mg pen!

Close to death for being overweight, or for being on WLI?

@RedApplePie You started the same day as me 🙌🏻 I dithered all month and finally took the plunge on Thursday. Unfortunately no suppression yet for me 😕 Struggling on pure willpower but I am sooo hungry as I don’t have the right food in my house yet but big healthy shop being delivered this afternoon which should hopefully help 🙏
I also perceived myself as overweight at 10st 10lb which is quite sad really 😕 But then growing up with the insane narrative that Kate Winslet was “fat” in Titanic as was Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones probably didn’t help!!

Newstartplease24 · 01/02/2026 11:09

@Alltheyellowbirds being overweight, and taking the WLI being the only thing that will help me. I’m not in “cut out a few biscuits for a couple of weeks to look good in a cozzie” territory. I’m in “raised cholesterol, hurting joints and obese” territory. I mean I knew that really and I’m doing something about it, right?

@InstantRegret i know right! I used to be so ashamed of my weight when I was 10 stone with a tiny waist. Honestly tho most women / girls seemed to be tiny. It wasn’t unusual to be with girls with 24inch waists and tiny legs who were always eating pasties. I know we were all younger then but honestly something has changed. It really really is harder for everyone to be slim now. Stocky women like me are obese; there are very many fewer genuinely really slim people walking around. What happened?

FrothyCothy · 01/02/2026 11:18

Spent the morning going through bags of too-small clothes (mostly 14s) which I can’t bear to part with - maybe this year I’ll get a chance to actually wear some of them again.

There’s a dress I wore to my mum’s 50th when I was at probably my lightest adult weight that I’d love to have an excuse to wear again one day, I looked FIT 🤣

Alltheyellowbirds · 01/02/2026 11:18

@Newstartplease24 Im in that territory too, and yes we are now doing something about it! Well done us. I’m also learning about all the health consequences that come from being this overweight. I don’t think it’s talked about enough and a lot of us kid ourselves that we’re not big enough to be putting our health in real danger - I know I did! I mean, I’m not obese like the people on those American shows who can’t get out of bed, so maybe I felt all the dire consequences didn’t apply to me. But I’m still in the obese category, so yes they do. Scary, but motivating!

FrothyCothy · 01/02/2026 11:19

@Newstartplease24 my chronic Achilles tendonitis fully agrees with you!

Kittkats · 01/02/2026 11:20

Has anyone any good high-protein, low carb meals to share? I have a couple of fall back options (roast peppers and cherry tomatoes topped with prawn and feta, tinned lentils in a bit of stock with mushrooms and cooked chicken and a spoonful of garlic Philadelphia mixed in, omelette) but would welcome more variety to get maximum nutrition in a smaller portion. I’m avoiding carb based meals as they make me hungry!

I have the same condition!! Its improved a lot since on wegovy. Im hoping i can exit the cycle of moving more resulting in more pain and less movement.

Mine definitely improves with consistent weight training as well. I’m not ready to abandon my beloved converse so hoping with weightloss plus exercise it will improve so I can keep wearing them!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 01/02/2026 12:07

@Newstartplease24Me too. Where I live you can apply for funding to cover the cost of wli, but you have to prove that your weight is a disabilty which significantly impairs your life. I'm thinking severe sleep apnea, osteoporosis with compression injuries, severe shoulder/elbow and wrist fracture from a simple fall, and breast cancer should convince them.

@Newstartplease24 I wish I knew! Maybe all the crash dieting such as the Special K diet messed with our metabolism! All the UPFs around now prob aren’t helping either!

Sorry to read that you are struggling mentally at the moment ☹️ Do you have anyone you can talk to about how you’re feeling?

HollywoodTease · 01/02/2026 12:28

Hi @Kittkats
my go-to at the moment is my goulash soup. I make it with beef but you could use chicken too.

Finely chop a medium onion and saute in a little onion. Add 1kg of diced stewing steak, 2 oxo cubes and about half a jar of paprika, stir for 5 minutes so the meat starts browning. Add 3 medium white potatoes (cubed) and 5-6 sliced carrots. Pour in 500ml of passata and 1.5 litres of water. Bring to the boil, stir well then simmer on low for about 3 hours (until the beef is tender) stirring occasionally

This makes about 9 decent individual portions at around 300 cals each.

You can pad it out with extra veg, a sprinkle of grated cheese or a slice of high-fibre bread.

It freezes well too so I've been taking a pot to work for lunch every day as it takes about 5-6 mins in the microwave from frozen!

HollywoodTease · 01/02/2026 12:49

Oh, forgot to add, I stir it some collagen powder before eating (when it's hot). You could probably add protein powder too, although I haven't tried that (yet!)

Kittkats · 01/02/2026 12:51

Thanks @HollywoodTease , I’ve added diced beef to my shopping list

hereismydog · 01/02/2026 12:56

Week 1 done 😄 no wobbles! Could do with increasing my water intake so I’ve been making more of an effort with that in the last couple of days.

Weighed this morning, -8lb 🤩 that’s more than my son weighed at birth…I’ve lost a whole newborn!
