Guys i just took my first dose of 2.5 yesterday and feel no different other than feeling a little more tired. When does it start to take effect?

Isobel201 · 25/11/2025 19:11

You won't feel anything different, 2.5 is not a therapeutic dose. The idea is to get your body used to it, then you'll go up a dose.

PearlTeapot · 25/11/2025 19:17

^says the opinion of ONE person.

For me (and others) I felt it straight away, I couldn't finish my dinner and didn't fancy snacking. It wasn't psychosomatic, I genuinely felt full. I was so happy. It didn't last though, probably about 6 weeks.

It's different for everyone. Don't worry!

This is a false information. 2 months on MJ today and still on 2.5 with strong suppression, barely able to eat 1000 calorie daily.

OP I felt the effect within hours however, it's different for everyone. I have seen cases where it didnt kicked until week 2. If no effect after week 3 then you might want to up your dose to 3.75mg

Huh? This is bollocks. A small number of people don't feel any effects at 2.5mg but most people do.

mumof5five · 25/11/2025 19:43

I started yesterday as well, I haven't felt much aside from a few waves of nausea. I had immodium to stave off any bad tummy. I have drank 2 litres of water today but other than that I feel no different. I'll update if and when any symptoms kick in. I think I have been slightly less hungry than usual.

Pottersciderbar82 · 25/11/2025 19:45

Within hours of taking it I was throwing my guts up and had the worst headache ever.

That lasted around 48 hours then… oh my word!

There was silence in my head and I wasn’t interested in eating at all, when I did, I felt uncomfortably full and nauseous on very very little.
Dropped a stone in that month.

I’ve gone up and thpugh the doses and it has stopped working unfortunately for me.
But yeah, within hours for me (when it worked)

SusanSometimes · 25/11/2025 19:48

It kicked in for me within hours. I've been lucky, no side effects and stayed on 2.5mg for three months because it was working so well.

AlexaStopAlexaNo · 25/11/2025 19:48

Mine kicked in a few days after my second dose of 2.5, but as you can see from this thread it really varies from person to person. General takeaway is to not get discouraged or worry if you don’t feel any suppression as quickly as you were expecting.

Periperi2025 · 25/11/2025 19:52

I started on 1.25mg (had hyperemesis when pregnant and was terrified of feeling nauseous as a result), i took it at bedtime and next morning i was still moderately hungry but not motivated to seek out food as a priority. By the next day i really struggled to get 1000 calories in and had a total sugar aversion. Lost 6lbs in the first week.

NorthernEmma · 25/11/2025 19:59

Mine kicked in within hours and lost 20lbs or so in my first month (was not much over bmi 30 at starting point)

SilenceInside · 25/11/2025 20:01

The medication typically reaches its peak in your system at around 8 to 72 hours after you inject a dose. That will vary by individual, and also your response to the medication will be individual. Some people feel the effects from the first dose, most will start to feel the effects during the time on the 2.5mg dose. Some people may need the higher doses before really getting the full effects. A few may even need the highest dose. A small percentage never get the full effects and it essentially doesn't work for them, around 10% or so of people.

Don't forget that as the medication won't have fully left your system by the time you do your next injection, the amount in your system will build with each 2.5mg injection.

RoundandSad · 25/11/2025 20:02

I felt it within hours - couldn't eat dinner that same day

@Pottersciderbar82 I can't believe you're able to carry on with that. I nearly gave up after my third one made me a bit unwell.

So you went up through the doses after that? I'm guessing then your side effects settle down. And then it stopped working for you. Sorry for all the questions I'm just interested in your experience.

Hoping for this effect but guess everyone’s experience is different.

2.5mg hit me hard the day after. I struggled to eat more than 800kcal for the first 2 weeks although I kept my protein intake as high as possible. i've lost 60lbs now and i'm at maintenance but never went higher than 5mg. I think some people need a much higher dose. Give it some time OP.

I would warn against using immodium unless you actually need it or you may end up seriously constipated, which is also a very common side effect. If you do experience constipation please address it straight away. Do not wait until you've not been for a week!

xanthomelana · 25/11/2025 20:49

I didn’t really feel anything until I was on 7.5mg. Only thing I got was tiredness and I was freezing cold for the first 48 hours. Everyone is different, some feel it straight away and others don’t.

gallivantsaregood · 25/11/2025 20:50

I felt it very quickly, within hours. I convinced myself that it was totally a placebo effect, but it wasn't!

Mysticmaiden · 25/11/2025 20:52

3 days for me for every jab and dose until I got to 10mg and above, then it was 2 days. Now on wegovy it is within hours.
2.5mg only last 2 weeks really for me and it was quite mild effects. I was prediabetic though.

Not true. Lots of people have a good response to 2.5mg. I have been taking 2.5 for over a year and lots over 7 stone.

I felt the effects very quickly

Yes I know someone who stuck at 2.5 and lost several stone.
i went up to 12.5 before switching to W due to cost, I’ve lost 4st 9 since Feb

Springbaby2023 · 25/11/2025 21:10

It took a few days for me but it wasn’t a massive suppression that loads of people seem to have on 2.5mg. I just noticed that I was full after what I would call a normal person portion, rather than craving a bigger size like I used to. It stayed constant for a week or so including after the second jab but I noticed it tailing off a couple of days before my third jab was due. I was a bit disheartened that I didn’t have the magic of food noises stopping and I still occasionally want naughty snacks. But as other PPs have said it’s a therapeutic dose so completely normal to not feel full effects after it.

FlutteryButterfly · 25/11/2025 21:17

I took my 1st dose of 2.5 on a Friday afternoon. I woke up on the Saturday and it had kicked in big time. No hunger which meant no food thoughts. My appetite shrunk massively too. I went up to 5mg the next pen and im starting another 5mg this week. Im loosing and im never hungry. Trying to decide whether to stick to 5 or go up but assume if 5 is working I should stick.

I’m like a Trojan fucking warrior. Nothing stops me, especially when MJ is my last and only hope to lose the weight.
Sickness and headache will not defeat me under any circumstances.
Next dose up, similar but more severe nausea without the vomiting, headache horrendous and not responsive to the usual paracetamol, lasted 2 days.

On 7.5 now with zero loss for around 11 weeks on 2.5 and 5mgs.
Zero loss week one of 7.5mgs despite doing everything right and having no appetite and eating very little.
I suppose it just doesn’t work for everyone.

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 25/11/2025 21:53

I felt symptoms almost immediately- main thing was absolutely awful sense of smell. It reminded me of early pregnancy or the scene in The Witches when they smell a child - revolting. Taste was pretty bad too. I can’t physically finish a meal and if I over indulge with anything, even too many grapes or herbal tea I get stomach ache.
Only 3 months in am starting to feel better!! I’ve stayed on 5mg and won’t increase. So far I’ve lost nearly 2 stone and want to loose another 18lb to be a healthy weight. It’s really helping and has stopped many IBS symptoms and dreadful acid reflux but I’ve not had an easy time of it.
