Guys i just took my first dose of 2.5 yesterday and feel no different other than feeling a little more tired. When does it start to take effect?

My first injection was 6 weeks ago tomorrow. I woke the following morning with a slightly heavy head feeling and absolutely no desire to eat anything but I was thirsty. I had no real appetite for the first month, continued on 2.5mg for week 5, and I have been eating a bit more although I can go until 3pm without the urge to eat. I’ve lost 9 kg, 1.4 stone, 19lbs so far. 😊

Tiger12 · 02/12/2025 18:58

I didn’t feel a single thing for the first 3 months while moving from 2.5 to 5 and then 7.5. Only in month 4 at 10.0 did I start to feel any appetite suppression and even then I’d only describe it as mild suppression. I also had no adverse side effects.

I’m hoping for better results when I reach the top dose although I am sceptical after my experience so far.

morningtrain · 02/12/2025 19:04

So strange how it affects everybody differently. I’m fascinated by this medication!

Have you lost any weight?

Almost nothing and I’m in week 15. It’s been an expensive experiment so far!

I do eat healthily but have had almost no suppression at all so far so difficult to cut down amounts without feeling hungry all the time. I’m still having to use huge amounts of willpower to stand still. The idea that I wouldn’t be able to stomach a big meal as others say is the case for them feels a million miles away.

They do say that around 1% of people are non responders to the medication. I’m starting to think I might be one of the unfortunate ones.

Except it’s not strange at all. It’s entirely expected in the way the drug works. It is essentially a supplement. Albeit a hormonal supplement.

most people have a naturally sufficient level of the hormones. Some people do not. Those who do not have varying degrees of deficiency.

As with any deficiency if you are not actually deficient you may experience a slight benefit but it won’t make any significant difference even at a high dose. If you have a complete deficiency it will make an almost instant, dramatic difference even at a low dose.

and every variation in the curve between those two.

morningtrain · 02/12/2025 19:54

@soupforbrainsi never knew that.. how comes then if someone is not deficient in the hormone that controls appetite (yes?) they would still be overweight? It must work on an emotional eating level too??

BoxingHares22 · 02/12/2025 19:55

I would really like to understand how it works. I just don’t know.

soupforbrains · 02/12/2025 20:07

Mounjaro operates on two hormones (unlike ozempic and wegovy which target only one). One hormone is the one which makes us feel full and the other is the one which makes us feel hungry.

All humans are capable of eating when they are full and eating even when we don’t feel hungry. We’ve all been full at a meal and thought ‘oh but that’s my favourite dessert I’m sure I can ‘squeeze a bit in’. Some people do that more often than others. Some people may not eat too much in volume, but make poor food choices and don’t move enough. There are a lot of ways to gain weight a become overweight.

the difference in levels for these hormones has a bigger impact on how hard it is to lose weight than they do on ease of not gaining weight. Losing weight can be a challenge for anyone. But what the research around these hormones did was identify that for those with a significant deficiency it’s a lot harder to lose weight because they feel hungry ALL the time uncomfortably so, painfully even for some, because they don’t feel full almost ever.

soupforbrains · 02/12/2025 20:12

You may be right that it impacts psychological/neuro factors too though however the research hasn’t been carried out in those areas (yet).

there is significant anecdotal evidence about the impact on a number of neuro improvements people have experienced on the injections. Ranging from the extremely common ‘reduction in food noise’ to ADHD sufferers like myself experiencing a dramatic shift in brain function, ease of focus and mental clarity. Research hasn’t confirmed or established the basis of these yet.

However some scientists has posited that the reduction in food noise is just associated with the reduction in hunger pangs since your brain isn't constantly being ‘pinged’ by your belly telling you you are hungry and thus having food/eating put into your train of thought.

Food noise had nothing to do with hunger for me so hard disagree with those scientists.

I’m one and a half weeks in and have no appetite suppression either 😭 I only wanted to do it for a month or two as a boost for my weight loss journey as I was skeptical and DH is against it but no luck so far and so disappointed every time I step on the scales.

Update: I started last Monday (24th november) and as of today (4th December) i have lost about 3kg. I've gone from 88 to 85kg. I have had a bit of an upset tummy but other than that very mild side effects. I am struggling to finish small portions of food and find that what I do eat is keeping me fuller for much longer. I am drinking 2l of water a day and haven't snacked at all. I am prioritising protein and have managed to cut out chips completely. I think I can only do this because the "food noise" has pretty much vanished.

Today, for my breakfast I had an egg and smoky bean protein pot thing from M&S which i really struggled to finish, that was around 10am, plus a cup of coffee, and that kept me full all the way till 6pm (I didn't have a single thing to eat in this time, whereas before I'd have been grazing all day) when I was "starving" (would have usually eaten a big meal being this hungry) struggled to finish a small bowl of rice and butter chicken and an apple turnover. I had a couple of squares of dark chocolate and that's all I have had today.

That’s amazing well done! I feel like I only just started feeling the effects of it now (less food noise) and were started on the same day. I guess everyone is different… also been getting really bad heart burn, have you experienced this?

Everyone is different

took till 10 to get suppression and I went to 15 as hardcore 😉

no issues like sickness - hair falling out - heartburn as many say

how are you feeling? I am eating similarly little but am forcing more down as I keep getting waves of light headedness. Loads of energy though! Can’t seem to get past 900 / 1000 calories a day.

I feel absolutely fine. But i take vitamins every day as well, vitamin b6, b12, iron and vitamin D3 plus K2. My energy levels are decent.
