Hi all ,
really want to start weight loss injections but so scared of the side effects.
did anybody have any side effects if so what did you have?
I was put on sertraline a year ago and in a year I’ve gone from 10stone to 14. Feel absolutely miserable

It’s a bit disingenuous to jump onto a thread in the WLI board where someone is asking for information because they want to start, to give an uninformed opinion that we all lost the weight as we were too sick to eat. Also unless the OP is one of a very lucky minority it’s improbable her GP will be willing to discuss or provide ongoing support with this. Hence why we all turn to forums like this to speak to those who have experience. But also run the risk of attracting the classic eat less move more posters sticking their unwanted opinions in.

It’s absolutely wise to take your time over the decision OP and do a lot of research - it took me several months to make the decision. You will find lots of support on these boards. WLI are not for everyone but there is no doubt that they are proving life changing for millions and will have the biggest long term health impact we’ve seen in generations.

For the record opinions are NEVER unwanted, hence the post…
whats mumsnet..? Oh thats right! A DISSCUSSION board!!
you are quite funny arnt you 🤣

If you feel “attacked” by my valid point and opinion maybe you should look into why you feel like this rather then putting the onus on me personally!
you dont know my experiences, and I'm allowed to have opinions! Taking all this into account is how people create informed decicions. Which your claming to be an advicate of! Good for you 💐

Read her post again. She didn't say she felt attacked, she said the responses to your posts were attacking your uninformed scaremongering crap. But then going by what you've written, comprehension is not your strong suit.

You're entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. Yes, people should make informed decisions on medication. Your input on this thread is neither informative nor useful.

Lightswitchy · 16/11/2025 11:29

And yes im absolutly awful for reminding op of other options (that may be safer) then taking monjouro. Send in the police quickly before i support someone else ! 😬

…in your opinion

People need to remember that with every serious weight loss comes the danger of side effects.

Muscle loss and hair loss are not solely a MJ issue. This is why it's important to remember that a healthy loss is around 1-2lb per week and you should exercise.
I had a private GP appointment as part of the MJ programm and we talked in length about what I can expect with any form of weight loss and how to loose it in a healthy way.

If you are older then your skin can't so easily bounce back and it will naturally loose firmness. If you loose 30kg of fat, there will be noticeable changes, MJ or not.

I lost 23kg 20 years ago, when I look at photos after the weight loss I can see differences in my skin and jawline. But that's because I am a menopausal 53 year old now, not 33 pre-child.

Yes, I inject chemicals into my body on a weekly basis. But I also find that my diet is a lot healthier then it was. When I lost weight 20 years ago the focus then was on battling my cravings, now it's about eating good food.
I am naturally more active as I don't carry 2 stones+ of weight around - still 2 stones at least more to go.

SilenceInside · 16/11/2025 11:33

Not just her opinion!

GiveMeWordGames · 16/11/2025 11:35

@Lightswitchy no, that would be my experience. On mounjaro. Which contradicts this load of nonsense you wrote here.

also in my view, i believe that the reason people lose weight on these GLP-1 medications only lose weight because they feel so sick and lousy to be able to eat!

It is a FACT that this was not the case for me and others who have wasted their time responding to your drivel on this thread.

monjmaintainer · 16/11/2025 11:44

Always fun when an “anti fat jabs” shit stirrer wanders onto an active thread then gradually shows their true colours. I wont be engaging further as logic and reason don’t work with these people and it’s just getting boring.

@strawberry780I’m so sorry your thread got hijacked, please don’t let it put you off seeking the information you need to make an informed decision. I’d recommend letting this thread go, name changing and coming back later to a new or existing one. If you search back through this board there is so much great info, positive and negative to help you weigh up what is best for you and you health. Best of luck whatever you decide.

SwallowsandAmazonians · 16/11/2025 11:48

I've been on it for a year and had no side effects whatsoever, with doses up to 12.5mg .

You should look into reading more carefully. I didn't say I feel attacked, I said people were attacking you rather than being defensive.

Also, you aren't the only one who's entitled to an opinion. Nobody has to pretend that your drivel isn't drivel. That's how this works, the right to speak doesn't belong solely to you. People get to hold a view on your view. And actually, the best way to an informed opinion is to screen out things people have pulled out of their arses.

Thebigonesgetaway · 16/11/2025 07:44

Everyone doesn’t. 80 percent of people have no side effects.

I just meant every individual is unique and Medications effect every one in a different way.

speakingofart · 16/11/2025 12:15

Honestly I’ve felt nauseous but only ever actually been sick once and that was because I had a different bug. On the other hand, despite the range of side effects I’ve experienced which have been quite unpleasant it has absolutely changed my life!

IntrinsicWorth · 16/11/2025 12:38

OP, the only side effects I have had are slight nausea but much less bad than pregnancy, acid reflux and at the very beginning constipation but that didn’t last.

It is also generally OK to take with sertaline, obviously providing your doc says it’s ok for you.

Sometimes you can get massive inertia and hopelessness if you’ve put on lots of weight suddenly. Mounj might be good for getting you started. You don’t have to stay on it forever.

Please do not, whatever you do, just stop taking sertaline. You will feel awful and for all we know you could have been suicidal, so that is very dangerous advice from a PP.

morningtrain · 16/11/2025 12:42

Also interested, but scared. Especially as would have to do this without medical support & via online pharmacy. Any tips on that front? And how much do you need to budget for it? I don’t have much spare cash but do spend a lot on food, so…!?!

SilenceInside · 16/11/2025 12:47

@morningtrain what kind of medical support would you prefer to have? In person appointments? You can get WLI from local pharmacies where you can have an in person appointment if that’s what you’d like to do.

Wegovy is cheaper than Mounjaro, the cost of both depends on the dose with the lower doses being cheaper than the higher doses. Everyone starts at the lowest dose and then moves up as necessary. Prices can be checked via https://monj.co.uk for Mounjaro and https://igovy.co.uk/wegovy-price-comparison-uk/ for Wegovy. Both sites list pharmacies that are regulated by the GPhC. The costs quoted are for a 4 dose injection pen that will last you 4 weeks.

What kind of medical support do you feel you need?

It’s literally just a tiny injection once a week, really no different to taking any other medication, and then dieting really, but you can use pharmacies who do consultations etc. and video calls or local pharmacies where you can see someone, or even private doctors if you wish if you need help with nutrional advice. Obviously the latter costs,

for just the injections price start at 150 odd pounds a month then depending on what dose you need goes up to about 300. Some people manage to stay on low dose, it’s very individual and you don’t know till you’re on it.

alecks · 16/11/2025 12:54

I have never had any side effects, been on it a year with a 7 stone loss.

morningtrain · 16/11/2025 13:10

Medicspot look good.. has anyone experience of any of the pharmacies listed on the wegovy site?

Jogonpolly · 16/11/2025 15:16

I had sulphur burps as my worst and most persistent negative side effect. I had occasional nausea and vomiting - only if I over ate or had something particularly rich/ out of the ordinary. Occasional headache.

They were minor and short lived and totally worth it.

I had worse nausea and side effects from my anti depressants.

Kazzaa46 · 16/11/2025 15:34

I’m about 9 weeks in.
The first week after taking my first jab I felt a bit ‘off’ a couple of times but nothing I would describe as feeling ill.
I’ve had constipation but it’s been easy to manage with sennokot or duculox.
I had a bad headache for 2 days after increasing my dose.
Otherwise I’ve had 3 periods of nausea the whole time. One was after drinking alcohol and twice in the morning after waking up which disappeared as soon as I ate.
Overall I’ve really not had many side effects. I’ve not had diarrhoea, vomiting, sulphur burps, stomach cramps. I’ve been lucky. You may not get any side effects as many don’t, we just tend to hear more about side effects as people without them don’t tend to need to post.

2GreatFatSquirrels · 16/11/2025 16:00

My sister had vomiting and really bad nausea, I had nothing at all.

I think if you can lose the weight without mj that would be better.
if you do believe sertraline to be the problem then you can taper off or switch medicine.
everyone responds differently to medication i know of people who have lost weight whilst taking sertraline.
the only thing is if you start taking mj you will have to keep taking it for it to work, this has financial obligations.
also in my view, i believe that the reason people lose weight on these GLP-1 medications only lose weight because they feel so sick and lousy to be able to eat!
Thermodynamics is a thing look it up.
also what is your height ? Do you have a lit of muscle? So many factors to consider here

I eat very well and have no side effects, and I've still lost 10kg / 22lbs in 2.5 months

Thistleton · 16/11/2025 18:30

I'm an emetophobe too, and it took a year to pluck up the courage to start on MJ. I decided to go very slowly and began on less than half the starting dose, going up in tiny increments. I also split the dose between two half-weekly injections to maintain a steadier concentration rather than risk the more dramatic peaks and troughs.

I've had almost no side effects and steady weight loss. I'm now on 5mg and planning to increase again shortly - again going slowly.

Obviously this is not the recommended schedule for taking the drug but it's worked well for me and helped me manage my anxiety and fear of vomiting.
