Hi all ,
really want to start weight loss injections but so scared of the side effects.
did anybody have any side effects if so what did you have?
I was put on sertraline a year ago and in a year I’ve gone from 10stone to 14. Feel absolutely miserable

You won’t know unless you try. And even if they are very bad they will be short lived (a couple of days) I personally hadn’t any (beyond things like more burps) but I have managed to stay on the starter dose and I have been very careful with what I have eaten.

missytis · 15/11/2025 20:49

I had mild nausea mostly, if used to come and go, lost 5 stone over the course of 6 months.
I found eat plenty of protein rich foods, that aren't super processed and drinking plenty of water. Walking and lifting heavy weights help.
Don't be loyal to any pharmacy, just use monj.co.uk / igovy.co.uk to find the best deals each month, they literally have the lowest prices available all the time.
You don't need any special vitamins or electrolytes, just buy them from any supermarket.

ForDearOtter · 15/11/2025 20:56

for me there is just mild nausea I lost around 32kilos in 11 months so happy with my journey so far check numan on monj.co.uk they have a good offer

NikkiPotnick · 15/11/2025 21:01

Nothing really, odd bit of indigestion.

As others have said, you won't know until you try. You might sail through, or you might really struggle. If you do try WLIs, and I hugely recommend them, definitely good advice is to drink loads of water and do try and eat even if really suppressed.

MiniCoopers · 15/11/2025 21:02

Are you allowed to try something like this with other medication? I’d be worried about the other medication?

Lightswitchy · 15/11/2025 21:06

Are you sure it was the sertraline that made you gain weight?
have you tried tracking your calories and eating habits?

After my first dose (2.5) I vomited for two days and felt hideous for a week. I know I was unusual but there it is. I didn't so much have appetite suppression as appetite obliteration. I was so horrified I threw out the rest of the pen and swore never to do it again... but a month later I did! I started with 20 clicks instead of the full dose of 60, and then worked up to 25, 30, 40 and finally 60 after about 6 weeks. No sickness then, and I still had powerful suppression - I guess I'm a super responder.

I had 3 pens in total, all at the lowest dose, and lost 2.5 stone. I never felt good on it though - I was eating so well I should have felt amazing, but I honestly think that was the closest to depression I've ever been. It really lowered my mood and I felt constantly "off", a bit icky or nauseous, and SO TIRED. It just wasn't right for me. I've been off it for 2 weeks now and feel like I've got my old self back! Being slimmer feels great and my BMI has gone from 28 to 23, so I really feel it was worth it, but I could never stay on it long term because we don't get on well enough.

I'd say be ready for side effects, but the stats say most people don't get them like I did. For me it was worth it to get here but, although I could lose more, I'd rather feel human!

Zempy · 15/11/2025 21:19

Side Effects for me have been minimal, and I have taken MJ since January.

Constipation
Feeling freezing cold
Tiredness
Minor nausea

I have lost 38% of my body weight this year, going from 13:7 to 8:5. My cholesterol level has reduced from 8.75 to 3.32.

I feel like a new person.

For some it can be, I've been on them before they caused me to have tremors I was given some other meds to help, but they just all made me feel worse and didn't help much. I did have some small weight gain, but it came off when I moved to mirtazapine, I was overweight already, so I don't know if it was that but I didn't get on well with it.

It’s a prescription medication so the doctors won’t let OP have it if there are contraindications. Her GP will be notified she’s taking it.

morbidcuriosity · 15/11/2025 21:29

Only side effect I've really had is constipation a few times.. nothing major, but once or twice I've had to resort to a laxative. even upped my fibre and water i still sometimes get a bit constipated but again nothing crazy..

Thebigonesgetaway · 15/11/2025 21:43

80 percent of people have no side effects. Those that do it’s minor gastro,

i had none, other than some mild nausea moving up to five,

There are a few drugs contra indicated, sertraline isn’t one, but you say what you’re on and the pharmacist makes a prescribing decision plus doctors notified.

Ineedanewsofa · 15/11/2025 21:53

A couple of bouts of constipation, solved by using sennakot and reducing the supplements I was taking.
One occasion of an irritated injection site, I think I accidentally blunted the needle on the cap before injecting.
Bloating and discomfort if I over consume heavy carbs like pizza - so I don’t any more!
Also cold a lot of the time now.
I’m 20kg down in 5 months, still on 2.5mg and feel the best I’ve felt in years. My inflammation related issues (tendinitis, carpal tunnel) disappeared within 4 weeks of starting and have not returned which has been worth it even if I hadn’t lost the weight

Whatabouterytoutery · 15/11/2025 22:10

I’m nearly 10kg down on 2.5mg for nearly 3 months now. Absolutely zero side effects for me. I’ve now started another medication for arthritis which is making me nauseous as heck. I’d take the Mounjaro every day of the week.

Interesting about carpal tunnel, I’m now thinking about inflammation related ailment

Thebigonesgetaway · 15/11/2025 22:24

To be honest, I don’t really get the fear of side effects stopping you starting, if you don’t like it you don’t need to do the second injection, sure you lose the cost of one pen, but the likely hood of that is so low. You start on a low half dose, of 2.5mg and you need to do it weekly, so if you don’t like it you can stop at any time, it’s no biggie.

That’s not quite true, I had hypotension and tachycardia after starting on the 2.5mg dose. It caused significant lethargy and really disrupted my life for about 6 weeks. I agree it is very rare but it can happen.

Flowers8989 · 15/11/2025 22:54

I have had sulphur burps, nausea, vomittimg and diarreah buuut I have lost over 6 stone since January so would say totally worth it!

willowsmum81 · 15/11/2025 23:08

I’ve been on mj 14 months now. Lost 5st and totally changed my whole lifestyle. I’ve ditched all fizzy juice, eat fruit rather than sugary treats, don’t crave carbs and don’t get up to snack during the night. I’m running 10k’s, my blood pressure is normal and my ibs-d is cured. It’s been the best thing i’ve ever bought myself. Happy to answer any questions. The only side effect has been constipation.

maz99 · 15/11/2025 23:36

I was also concerned about side effects too before I started and I've been on it 2.5 months now.

I have had no side effects whatsoever. Not one... took my 2nd dose of 5mg 2 days ago.

Elliebearblues · 16/11/2025 00:50

Everyone experiences different side effects, I’ve had nausea, stomach cramps, Diorrhea, dizziness and sulfer burns, not all the same time.. it dosnt help I came down with a stomach bug about 4 weeks ago and then got this nasty cough which I’ve had the last 2 weeks so I think my immune system is weak, I’m still going though x

I was so scared of side effects and then I did turn out to be one of the very unlucky ones who gets them really badly (vomiting, nausea and diarrhoea on and off). I did weather it though and I now split my dose so I inject two small amounts at different times of the week which works much better for me. From the sympathy I’ve had on here, I think I’m quite unusual and just very unlucky! I don’t regret it though as I’ve lost 3 stone so far. I just wish I’d been ballsy enough to split my dose much earlier on - I could have taken 1mg twice a week at the start and would probably have been much better for it. The downside is that splitting the dose has slowed down my weight loss but I don’t mind.
