People noticing ?

I’ve almost 12lbs. This is amazing to me as have been 3 stone over a healthy bmi for a few years now.

I’m losing with jabs and am only on week 4. I don’t want to discuss it with anyone. But am guessing people will ask me. I just feel really defensive about sharing this information. Not sure how to handle it, if the question comes up.

Does anyone have any helpful thoughts/ advice please?

They will assume WLI

So in your shoes, I’d just shrug and own it.

Pussert · 13/11/2025 08:25

I've found nobody really notices. I've gone from 12st 5 down to 10st 12 and only my mum and one other person has noticed!

heartofsunshine · 13/11/2025 08:27

I had this chat with DB last week. The idea that WLI are a cheat or an easy fix is absurd. Its medicine, to help you with a medical problem, and that is all it is no more no less. We all need to eat. The world we live in is insane. Over eating is not an individuals fault, it is not greed or weakness, it is literally how we have evolved, for our survival. DB was ashamed and defensive, even cried when he told me, but having reframed it he is now proud to be doing something so good for himself and his children, getting healthier.

Take care of yourself OP and try and ignore the bullshit. You are looking after your health, and for that everyone should be grateful and also proud of you.

Coffeeishot · 13/11/2025 08:28

People will just assume WLI, it is what it is, if they ask you can say im on x y z , a close family member of mine is losing weight quickly she isn't ill so I am assuming a WLI. I haven't said because it isn't my bussiness.

As cruel as it is… in my experience and those others I know, nobody notices anything until you’re about 3stone off, 3.5 for me anyway.

i was 16 stone - 101 kg, I’m now at 64 ish so about 5 st 10 lost.

i say cruel cos losing 12lb is A LOT! And it’s taken a lot of effort and courage from you.

to begin with, I said nothing to nobody (I started in July 24) now I don’t care if people ask, I tell them.

I even got a judgy “you’re not jabbing are you?” The other day. “Yes I am!” Was the cheery response

tempted to prepare myself for the next time “oooh, sorry! Was I supposed to check with you before deciding how to lose weight?”

Brava! Keep going and enjoy the process of changing your life! 😊

Why is it cruel not to either notice or notice but choose not to comment on it?

TootieFrooties · 13/11/2025 08:30

My mum is the only person who has said anything to me and that’s because I only see her every few months I think. I have joined a gym so I assume people just think it’s that.

Depends how much you’ve lost

if slow and steady, they won’t think WLI

if sizeable and in a short period of time? They will likely think WLI

Brightlittlecanary · 13/11/2025 08:33

I just owned it, if anyone mentioned I’d lost weight I said I’m using mounjaro and said how brilliant it was. No biggie, nothing to be ashamed about.

I don't think it is anything to be ashamed of if you need to lose weight for your health and happiness.

Ha! Well done on your progress - that’s amazing! 🎉

I honestly don’t care if anyone doesn’t notice - I’m doing it entirely for me. Am just not comfortable with being judged.

I’ll be honest and say I was very sceptical about WLIs for a long time before trying them. Then I met a couple of friends who told me they’d taken them - but I realise they were confiding in me because I am bigger IYSWIM. One even told me she didn’t like discussing with skinny people. This is exactly how I feel. Most of my friends are slim and I don’t expect they will understand.

It’s a weird one!

I’ve been at a gym for 2 years, eating healthily and lost zero weight.
Clearly I was eating far too much.
I can see that now.
I think people will assume anyone who loses a lot of weight now is on WLIs regardless tbh.

A lot of weight in a short amount of time? Yes
and they’ll likely be correct In most cases

I love the straight forwardness of this approach!

I just don’t like the idea of being judged/ discussed I suppose. It’s bugging me. I wish it wasn’t.

It’s not really, I mean this politely but everyone can see if you’re overweight or not, it’s not a secret you can hide.

if you’ve been fat awhile then suddenly lose the weight successfully, most folks will assume you’re on them.

so your options are tell people and be seen as honest.
lie and have people assume you’re on them but also a liar.

i mean that’s it really. And if you feel your friends are the judgey sort, then they are not friends, if you are saying you were judgemental, then that’s a you issue.

so your call, either lie and pretend you found a magic bucket of willpower.
refuse to discuss it.
just say I’m taking mounjaro along with dieting and exercise.

as said, I plumped for the last one, and it’s been very positive. But my friends and family don’t judge, and like everyone else who is obese you could see I was obese. I didn’t however tell work colleagues, as I don’t discuss personal issues at work.

SilenceInside · 13/11/2025 08:42

Whether and when people notice depends on a few things. If you have a lot of weight to lose, people might not notice until you've lost several stones. I started at 22 stone, so a 12 pound loss was totally unnoticeable. I had my first comment about my weight loss after I lost around 6 stones. No one at that point asked me how I was losing the weight.

If you are at the lower end of the obese BMI range, then losing a stone or more might start to be noticeable sooner. But, people are quite bad at noticing these things unless there's a fairly dramatic difference.

I had more comments when I was down to a BMI under 30, and that's when I was directly asked, once, by a particularly nosey friend whether I was taking WLI. I had already decided I didn't want to share my personal medical decisions with anyone outside of my DP, so I was quite happy to not divulge the truth. I was prepared in advance to lie, and have no qualms about doing so if someone is intrusive enough to directly ask, in public too in front of lots of other random people! Not a forum where I want to be discussing anything to do with my health. And I hate any discussion about my weight or size so I would always try to shut any comments down and move the conversation on to another topic.

I don't care what anyone assumes as long as they keep it to themselves and have enough awareness not to directly question me about it.

Well a quick weightloss is noticeable, .gradually losing weight.happens over time so people don't really pay that much attention, that isn't a criticism just an observation.

Brightlittlecanary · 13/11/2025 08:46

No one asked me directly, but that’s as soon as I was very proactive, I’m taking mounjaro, it’s brilliant type of thing. And now I’ve several friends and family members on them.

my experience is it’s peiple who are jealous or resentful who judge, it’s a them issue.

Anyone who judges is a fool

but you will be judged if people suspect porkies, which they likely will

Absolutely you’re right.
I don’t feel my friends are judgmental. And yes everyone will see.
But no one mentioned that I’ve been overweight for the last decade - and I hadn’t discussed my unhappiness about it with them. Only with DH. Who also needs to lose weight.

I just feel very private about my weight. And am not relishing the idea of people thinking they can talk to me about it - just because I’m losing some. Is that weird?
