I've lost 11kg on Mounjaro. I wasn't obese to start with but I'm tiny, 5ft 1 inch. I'm now just in the healthy weight BMI. I stopped my 5mg dose for 3 weeks as I had to wait till payday to order my next pen. In that time I wasn't eating any more than usual but I put on 2kg. So I guess I'm on it for life......which sucks as it's bloody expensive. Anyone else??

There seems to be something about the gut microbiome issue that inspires Internet bullshitting. Long predates WLIs being common.

Clearly you don't actually read scientific literature if you think that gut microbes aren't implicated in health outcomes. Enjoy your sulphur burps meantime.

You didn't answer the question 😆

Give me your email address and I'll pass you his details and you can ask him directly.

Your opinion is based on what? Because the drug companies say so?

The trial data, the global health authorities and my own personal experience.

which I agree doesn’t trump your world leading expert snd his top secret research.

honestly I’d just stop, you’re posting some right old nonsense, from no studies to not approved for life and so much shite in between.

😂

Clearly you didn't read my post if you think that's what I wrote. Your comprehension will need to improve before you can attempt to be condescending.

As for sulphur burps, you wish. As do I a bit actually, I used to be an avid belcher as a child, me and DB made a game out of it. Might've been nice to return to an old hobby. Sadly I'm one of the ones who've just glided through the WLI experience!

Apart from the fact that this is a well weird suggestion, surely he shared the information with you when you discussed in depth? He told you who has been doing this research into microbiome and mitochondrial damage caused by Mounjaro and why it's not public knowledge? Surely you didn't just believe a load of old toot because a doctor said so?? Because if that's not what happened you'd be able to say here. But you won't.

Cupofteaforyou · 09/11/2025 22:00

I took it for 4 months, dropped from 190lbs to 163lbs. Healthy BMI top end is 165. I stopped in June. I've gained to 169 but I've been stable at 169 for months. I try to keep fit and work out which helps I think but I have a terrible sweet tooth. I'm hoping I can maintain th9ugh.
BTW I'm 5'9" and 14/16 so different parameters.

usedtobeaylis · 09/11/2025 22:02

I had sulphur burps briefly. Before that I had frequent burping in general due to acid reflux. Since taking Mounjaro and since the sulphur burps subsided, I rarely burp at all - all the acid reflux symptoms have lessened. It's life changing. My oesophagus has probably never been so happy.

Yep! It's great being only a couple of pounds above normal BMI.

Feeling excitement about the other potential positive effects too. The preliminary stuff about impact on Alzheimers is something I'm really hopeful about.

@Ihavesomeballs can't you go back to keto and fasting?

Would you be prepared to spend the rest of your life on Keto and fasting? It sounds totally grim.

Oh please. Gut microbiome? This is nonsense. Where did your 'friend' get hold of this secret research evidence? Or are you falling for the appeal to authority fallacy and assuming this person's no-more-informed-than-the-next-bloke's opinion is more valuable because they are a doctor?

Masses of research now on gut microbiome. Look at Professor Tim Spector’s research at Zoe health. Yes it’s a new field. But it’s not nonsense.

From what I can see, it's potential altered mitochondrial function in one person who took Mounjaro AND Ozempic. One of which is licenced for obesity and one which isn't.

Other research shows Mounjaro only can improve mitochondrial function.

Yes

Is there a human in history documented taking it for their whole life or the majority of their life?

I actually love that I can eat carbs on the medication so definitely no to keto and fasting .....that's not living.

Yes. I’m 3 inches shorter than you and will be on it for life. I’m maintaining easily now for over 6 months. I’ve tinkered around with longer between doses occasionally and can usually add a couple of days on at the end fairly frequently. Yes I eat more the last couple of days, only 200 calories makes the difference to me as my maintenance calories is 1000.

You need to get this calculated for you again, because there is no way on this earth your maintenance is 1,000. No way. How have you worked that out? Absolutely nobody needs to be eating as little as 1,000 calories a day. Please get it worked out again because you don't need to live like that!

They're not all that strict. The ones I've been with just wanted a couple of photos. I'm only just in the obese category and this didn't do any other checks.

Well hopefully the regulators are cracking down on the lapse pharmacies. I prefer pharmacies that do make you jump through hoops as I then hope I am getting a better quality service.

There is a lot of money to be made in the weight loss sector and it is attracting unscrupulous suppliers.

My friend lost about 5 stones on it.
She stopped for 3 weeks and the weight is coming back, says already gained a stone.

Because it takes your appetite away, soon as you stop it appetite comes back

It's not a surprise though is it.

If you have not put the effort in to learn about nutrition and perhaps a bit of exercise then 90% of people will gradually slip back to their old ways and pile the weight back on.

I am more surprised that people think they can come off it and my some miracle expect to maintain their new weight.

Most of us do understand that. In the year I have been on it I have totally overhauled my lifestyle. MJ is a support tool, I have still had to do the hard yards. It is those who had not adapted that will struggle with weight gain afterwards.

And of course there are those poor souls for whom MJ doesn’t work at all.

PumpkinTwistyWindToots · 09/11/2025 22:10

I said that Mounjaro having a negative impact on the gut microbiome was nonsense.

Has that been established? It def slows down food through the gut. I’m not sure I’ve seen evidence either way

Thehop · 09/11/2025 22:38

ChocolateBoxCottage · 09/11/2025 00:04

I don't intend to be on it for life. I have been on MJ since May, and I'm having a week off this week as I had a month of zero loss. I'm trying to listen to my hunger this week and really sticking to my TDEE, which I haven't quite managed.

What I have found is yes, I'm hungry if I stop and think «do I feel hungry?" Do I need to eat until I'm full? No. Can I avoid food with a cup of tea or s mint? Yes. So, although it's not easy or mindless, I can do this.

I am obese however. I'm not looking to get to my lowest bmi. My intention is to maintain and only go back on for short bursts if my weight goes up by 7lbs.

Honestly I can't live like this and if it's a case if putting it all back on after this I will be considering surgery. The thought of paying £300 a month for MJ isn't appealing either.

I ended up having a sleeve on June. I feel like I have my life back it's incredible. 80lbs down already and finally enjoying exercise. I highly recommend
