I've lost 11kg on Mounjaro. I wasn't obese to start with but I'm tiny, 5ft 1 inch. I'm now just in the healthy weight BMI. I stopped my 5mg dose for 3 weeks as I had to wait till payday to order my next pen. In that time I wasn't eating any more than usual but I put on 2kg. So I guess I'm on it for life......which sucks as it's bloody expensive. Anyone else??

I read that there has been some really interesting research suggesting that being obese does muck up hormone balance and weight control. The study looked at for two groups of people at a healthy BMI, one group which had been at that BMI their whole lives and the other had been obese and lost weight.
To maintain weight at the healthy BMI, the formerly obese group had to eat 300-400 calories a day fewer than the "always at healthy BMI" group.

Is there a chance this could be because they had less muscle mass? If you yoyo diet and don't do a lot of strength training it's likely each time you gain weight more if it is fat and less of it is muscle.

Wish I could go back in time and get on top of this when I was... well 8 or 9 years old I guess!

Never said you did @RunSlowTalkFast !!!!!! Why would you think I was directing my comments at you?

Yes I've definitely read that a lot of the hormonal issues are caused by bring obese in the first place.

Just not true. My sister has always been about 6 stone, all her life being super skinny. She is tiny at 4ft 9. Now she's over 8.5 stone and struggling due to menopause.

Yes. That would be why I said some, not all.

Wrong. Menopause affects weight which is why so many women put on a lot of weight during menopause

Wrong. Menopause affects weight which is why so many women put on a lot of weight during menopause

Menopause can often increase cortisol, due to the fluctuating hormones, and increased cortisol leads to:

increased appetite, particularly for sugary or fatty foods,
disrupted sleep, which also causes weight gain,
disrupted metabolism, meaning it lowers metabolism and we burn less calories,
redistributes fat, and sends it to our tummies.
increases our blood pressure
increases our blood sugar levels,
produces more glucose which in turn makes us become insulin resistant.
it also is the cause of many other menopause symptoms ie brain fog, poor concentration etc.

increased cortisol due to our hormones fluctuating during menopause is very common, and something we don’t talk about much, it causes so many health issues. It’s huge. Very few doctors check cortisol levels. And as said, we don’t talk about it much, it starts with peri, so we can endure it for a decade or more.

its why the drugs work so well for women in peri. As they control blood sugar, glucose production and insulin production, meaning when these are under control, our cortisol levels reduce, and as we lose weight it reduces further. Getting us out of the vicious cycle that menopause got us into.

I really don’t know the reason. I think the conclusion was simply that if we’re formerly obese, then to maintain at a healthy BMI, we have to eat significantly less than a TDEE calculator might suggest.

when they studied the Biggest Loser contestants, they said it is metabolic adaptation. You may remember the contestants' BMRs dropped drastically and more than you would expect for their size, and also stayed low for years after the show, about 800 kcal lower than expected for their body size. Bodies do not want to lose fat and start managing with fewer calories.

due to personal circumstances I abruptly stopped MJ , unplanned 2 st from goal but 4.5 st down

I was 6 weeks into 12.5 when the decision was made did 14mg, 7mg 9 days later and 3 mg 9 days after that. I’m now one month post 14mg and 10 days post last 3mg jab

when decision was made I knew I would gain a bit and not Continue loosing and I’m bouncing up and down 2lb ever since lowest weight at 14mg

although I’m eating more , I’m very conscious about it and I was so hungry 24/7 when I went down to 7mg but it has stabilised . The weight bouncing is water retention as I feel puffy like before a period despite being post period

its normal to gain 2-10 lb after stopping just like you dropped a lot the first week when first starting MJ

now I want to go back to MJ in a few months to help the last weight but when stopping you need to expect some inflammation weight returning .

That’s really interesting thank you. Does anyone know why the inflammation returns if the weight is gone?

Yes, I am confused about that too, and so much so fast, it doesn’t really feel realistic unless there is a health issue.

LIkely some of the inflammation will return, as GLP1 reduces inflammation through both indirect mechanisms, like weight loss and improved blood sugar control, but also has been shown to directly lower inflammatory cytokines and other markers like C-reactive protein.

That explains how not why, as people are thinking fhey are gaining uo to 4lbs in inflammation weight in a matter of weeks,

Well if you stop taking blood pressure meds then your blood pressure increases. Usually as more of if leaves your system. Surely that is the why.

FoxRedPuppy · 17/11/2025 09:53

One of medications has a therapeutic level. So if it drops below that it won’t work, even if I was still taking some. Could be same with MJ and inflammation
