I have just placed my first order after months of deliberating.
Is there a guide on what I need to do? Or does anyone have any hints or tips?
For example, do I eat as I feel or should I calorie count? I hear protein it’s important, and drinking lots of water?
Should I stock up on any otc meds like for diarrhoea or heartburn? Paracetamol?

Me too! Hoping I end up like the people who say it was the best decision ever! Have you got much to lose?

Definitely eat plenty of protein and stock up on healthy whole foods. I worked out my calorie requirements and calorie counted until I got used to how much I needed to eat to lose weight consistently. Just treat it like a normal diet for weight loss. You need to be in a deficit to lose weight. I went off fatty foods and wine and suffered after one memorable time I had 2 slices of takeaway pizza. I fell in love with a bit of feta on salad for a whole. This time last year I was obese and getting heavier. I'm now at my healthy goal weight and feel great. It's amazing.

VioletandMauve · 25/10/2025 10:30

I’m on my first week, not weighed myself yet and was very apprehensive. But my side effects have been very minimal and yes I have been drinking lots of water. Trying to have protein too.

Did you not receive a guide on everything from the place you ordered it from?

SquishyGloopyBum · 25/10/2025 10:34

I started in April and was very nervous.

It’s really important to drink lots of water. Do eat well as well - it made me crave healthy foods at the start. Avoid greasy foods too - they don’t sit well!

I took my first jab in the morning as I knew I wouldn’t sleep if I did it at night.

good luck! I’ve lost nearly 3stone now and I feel amazing.

SilenceInside · 25/10/2025 10:53

The pharmacy you ordered from should/will send you details of things like that or have it on their website somewhere. Or be able to tell you if you contact them and ask. But in general, eat a healthy diet prioritising protein, and you should find that the appetite suppression works for you to help you stick to a calorie deficit. You can calorie count if you like to, or rely on reduced portions or a combination, or use some other structured diet method. Your choice.

JustPickleRick · 25/10/2025 11:01

Take your jab at night, that way you sleep through the worst symptoms.

Drink atleast 2 litres of water, drink 3 if you can!

Aim for about 1.6g of protein per kg of body weight.

Work out your TDEE and then see what calories you need to hit for weightloss.

Be prepared for symptoms....but also be prepared for none at all like i've experienced :)

You need to diet so don't just eat as normal. You have to put in the work too.

Calorie count - nutracheck is a good app

No need to do anything. I’ve lost 2 stone - without making many changes - just eating less. It will be life changing.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 25/10/2025 11:05

Me and my dh started in January and we jab the same day (Saturday for us) every week. That’s our weigh day as well. Apart from that we eat as we usually did but we just eat less. And we avoid greasy food as they make us feel a bit queasy but apart from that nothing has changed. It’s been a fantastic thing for us to do together. We are also both almost at goal weight. I was almost 13 stone when I started and I’m nearly 9 now. He was almost 20 and is now just over 13 stone. Good luck to you.

twilightcafe · 25/10/2025 11:33

I won't wish you luck - as you will definitely lose weight on Mounjaro.

I started in August, and it's the best thing I've done for my health.

The only side effect I've had so far is constipation but that's sorted with extra fibre, making sure I drink loads of water and a magnesium supplement.

Kazzaa46 · 25/10/2025 21:33

I’m just entering week 7.
My tips would be take some sort of anti acid daily, I take omeprazole. It has done wonders for any nausea I’ve experienced. Even if I don’t have heartburn but feel sick, it always helps.
Drink plenty of water.
if you can’t face eating at times, force yourself to have something even just a high protein meal replacement shake.
Avoid any rich or spicy food until you know how you’re getting on with side effects.

My only side effects have been constipation and very occasional low level nausea which omeprazole always cures.
The only time I felt really sick was after the one occasion I drank alcohol. Some people are fine drinking but I can’t drink at all I’ve found.

Elliebearblues · 26/10/2025 16:23

Hi, I started nearly 4 weeks ago, the weight is slowly coming off.
My tips would be eat protein, drink at least 2L water and make sure you have something for heartburn and nausea in just incase .. also pop a hydration tablet into you water everyday to keep the tiredness at bay.

come and join us on the October Thread xx

i started taking Mounjaro about 6 weeks ago but after my 3rd jab had terrible diarrhoea for days which left me shattered and feeling awful. I don’t know if that was a side effect or not though.

I had this last week for 3days out of nowhere , really horrible x

ResusciAnnie · 26/10/2025 17:39

I eat the same meals as before, just no desire to snack and full a lot quicker so eating way less than without MJ. It’s such a relief! :) down 16lb in 16 weeks so slow and steady and realistic for me - don’t want to get my body used to living off salad and then not be able to maintain that whenever I come off MJ.

Am premenstrual and in Belgium so eating a fair amount of Milka, for example. Chocolate will always be an issue for me in life. And will always be a prominent joy in my life 😆

My brain is so much calmer, inflammation hugely reduced, don’t wake up every morning with overwhelming guilt at being fat, don’t think about food all the time so loads more brain space for way more fun stuff, lost loads of cms round my torso, started running and loving it, more productive at work. So it’s definitely not just about the weight for me.

FlowersFawb · 26/10/2025 17:47

I'm 9 months in and 6 stone down on 10mg currently.

I eat a really varied diet some good stuff some bad. I can't tolerate alcohol too much it makes me sick.

Use nutracheck to calorie count its a really good app.

Don't think you have to cut absolutely everything out you don't naturally you will eat much smaller portions.

I have had times where I have had a really bad tummy or been sick usually when moving up doses.

I'm certain the sulphur burps will catch you at some point they are not pleasant!

My start weight was 17 stone...use vinted or charity shops as you move fown cloyhes sizes so you are not spending loads.

I bought a size 10 coat this weekend and was so happy as i started at a size 18! Best decision i ever made.

The reddit uk mounjaro thread is good for info too.

Good luck xx

StrumpersPlunkett · 26/10/2025 17:57

Agree with a lot of the above.
Just to add take your time to move up. if you are feeling suppression on 2.5mg don't rush to move to 5mg.
The online pharmacy I use tells me each month to move up but after 6 months am still on 5mg and am consistently 1lb down each week.
Drink plenty of water and have mint tea available for mild nausea or indigestion.

In order to avoid regaining when coming off it appears there do need to be changes to your lifestyle, so take the opportunity to build new habits.

Good luck!

I’ve decided to start after months of wanting to. I don’t have masses to lose but the weight has been creeping on each year and I’m about 2 stone heavier than I’d like to be. What doeses did everyone start at? I’m applying online and it wants to know what dose I want to order

SilenceInside · 26/10/2025 18:27

@stupididiot12345 everyone starts on the lowest dose, 2.5mg. If the online form lets you choose another dose then they will subsequently not approve that and will only let you have the 2.5mg.

I've been on Mounjaro since June last year. No side effects t except the expected slowed digestion rate and a bit of constipation.

Last month I was struck with sudden diarrhoea, so bad that shit myself before I made it to the toilet. I had cramps and felt dreadful, and had another mortifying accident a few days later. I started to wonder if I was finally getting those dreaded GLP-1 gastric side effects, despite having been on 15mg for months without any problems.

Then the "cold" that had been annoying me for a couple of weeks got a lot worse, and I tested positive for Covid. Apparently the latest variant currently doing the rounds has dire rear as one of the symptoms.

Definitely is a side effect, the most common one I think according to research. I’m on my 7th jab and have experienced severe diarrhoea after 5 of them, with constipation after the other two! I think I am either unlucky or sensitive to the medication as most people in the chats here don’t suffer as much. I do have quite a few allergies though so that might be a factor for me.

I jabbed on Friday night and my stomach is starting to ferment and grumble now, ready for the eruption later tonight! Maybe it won’t be as bad this time?

I didn’t want to take anything initially but now take some Imodium type meds after a second trip to the toilet as otherwise I end up not getting much sleep. I tried initially to alleviate the constipation by eating high fibre foods ( like kiwi fruit, berries and Greek yogurt, prunes, popcorn, seeded bread etc) but did resort to a laxative the second time as I was fed up straining! Me and my toilet have become very close friends recently for one reason or another!

Much of the food I eat varies from things that bind me up digestion wise or soften the stools, I rarely eat anything just because I fancy it!

i’m only on 2.5mg and had no cold like symptoms afterwards or at the time so I don’t think i had covid. The diarrhoea was very bloody as well though so it’s why o wasn’t sure it’s the mounjaro. I had blood tests which showed high white cell count but everything tested from stool sample came back negative

FlowersFawb · 26/10/2025 18:48

@Ihateslugs its pretty common I've had it on and off the whole 9 months I've been on it.

Have a look on the reddit forum and you will see its common.

I needed to lose about 3stone at least like you say it creeps on and on each year and I’ve tried every diet under the sun. They normally start you off at the lowest dose for 4 weeks for your body to get used to it. Wegovy 0.25mg or Mounjaro 2.5mg their both the lowest dose for both.
I don’t know if you’ve decided who you want to go with but I ordered with Med Express as a friendly nurse practitioner told me they were safe, I do have £40 off referral code if you exited to go with them just PM me if you want the code.

Anyway good luck and let us know how you get on x
