@Onenotsosmallstep I'm so sorry to see your post about your husband.

I fucking hate men at the moment.
Why do they tear us apart like this?

Good grief Broon. The rage I feel on your behalf. After a lifetime together. I have no words. Brutal doesn’t cover it. Thanks for sharing with us. This internet friend is sending much love.

@Onenotsosmallstep get him gone. Life is better alone than with a cheat. We’re all here for you.

TragicMuse · 23/11/2025 17:07

Good grief Broon. What a horrible shock for you. Rage, absolutely. I would be furious too. What a fucker.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 23/11/2025 16:38

Well, I've been debating whether or not to share something personal with you, but I'm going to. You're my friends.

Nine weeks ago, my husband of 25 years walked out on me. Just went. No warning, no argument, no other woman (or man).

He lives fifteen miles away now. He asked the council to rehouse him, so they did. He got a flat within three weeks (which is normal in Argyll).

My two DC who live in this village (where I'm living, I mean) have seen him several times. There is definitely nobody else. I have a daughter and a son who live in their own separate flats here (I mean, not together).

Sorry if this post is garbled and doesn't make sense.

My husband and I are both 69.

Isn't that an awful thing to have done? For no reason. Well, no reason I can figure out.

Mind you, now that I've got rid of all his clothes, books and other odds and sods, there is much more space for mine. Especially my clothes.

He hasn't contacted me once since he left.

And all I feel..........
ALL. I. FEEL is rage. I'm furious with him. I'm not sad. I don't even miss him.

I should miss him. But I don't. What he did was brutal. Emotionally.

Blimey..that's awful..just awful
I'm so so sorry you have been going through this
I hope you have some friends near you to help and support you
I hope your children are there for you .
Well done for coping and keeping going as best as you can ,and well done for sticking to your weight loss and not letting him derail you .
He didn't deserve you .
You are worth more than being treated like that ..you keep on being you and hold your head high ..
Sending love ❤️

Autumnflowers2 · 23/11/2025 17:21

I don't know if this is appropriate to say or not .
And I know we haven't had weight loss surgery
But I read somewhere that a lot of marriages break down when the woman has weight loss surgery..and we are loosing the same amounts of weight as people who have had weight loss surgery..so could be a similar effect
I think we change when we loose weight..we become more focused on ourselves and we are obviously valuing ourselves,we tolerate less of their crap ..they can't manipulate us as much ..they don't like it ,they don't like us focusing on ourselves, they like to be the focus.
It's similar to men who leave when their wives get cancer or a life limiting illness ..they leave because they want to be looked after ,not have to do the looking after of their wife ..

Autumnflowers2 · 23/11/2025 17:23

Obviously not all men ...but definitely enough for there to be a pattern

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 23/11/2025 18:14

That's such an interesting post @Autumnflowers2

I did wonder if the weight loss had anything to do with it. But I just don't understand.......

And of course NAMALT. I don't really hate all men. But at the moment? Fuck the patriarchy!

My husband (I should say ex-husband) has left me in a difficult financial situation. But he's put himself in a worse one IMO.

My house is a lovely bungalow, part of a tiny sheltered housing scheme. All our houses are separate and there's almost no supervision. We just have a completely useless warden, for ten hours a week. Ex and I have done ours up over the years. It was always going to be our last home, so we put in a new bathroom and did up the kitchen.

Well, bollockbrains didn't factor in that his new place would be unfurnished, so he's had to spend a small fortune buying everything for it. I haven't given him so much as a tea towel.

I'm quietly laughing, but also aghast at the folly of it all.

I hope you manage to sort out finances
Are you claiming any benefit s you are entitled to
Single council tax benefit..
Have you checked your claiming all your pensions, sometimes people have the odd one they forgot about
Is there a citizen advice bureau you could access ,to help you get a clear picture of your rights

Thank you. Yes, I'm getting everything, including pension credit. But thank you for reminding me.

Argh I'd forgotten to say that husband took the car! I mean, it's his Motability car, so he's fully entitled to do so, but it does leave me without a vehicle, in a rural area.
Hmm

And I've ordered the Christmas turkey!
My son from London is coming up and my two children who live here will celebrate with us.

My ex will spend Christmas alone, in his teatowel-less flat.

Sounds like he'll be getting the Christmas he deserves then, while you will be surrounded by your loved ones. A good dollop of karma there.

Missingducks · 23/11/2025 20:26

Dear @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne and @Onenotsosmallstep
Their loss (each of them).

Not everyone can cope with us taking charge of our lives and health.

And if they can't then they don't deserve us.

I saw my mum this evening for the first time in a couple of months, we generally have an ok relationship but she can be quite blunt and insensitive. She knows about the MJ and has seen me since I’ve been losing weight but I guess she really noticed the difference tonight because the first thing she said when she walked in the door was “omg you look like a cancer patient, you’ve lost far too much weight!”

I was so deflated. Who says that to someone? I have lost a huge amount but I’m still over 12 stone and a size 12, hardly skeletal!

Don't think I’ll be making plans to see her again for a while.

Exactly the kind of thing my mum says. Twice in 5 years I've seen her. She probably wonders why

Yes indeed.
I'm looking forward to Christmas.
It'll be two years since I started MJ at that point, and I should be nearly at my goal.

BTW I've still got £50 discount for CheqUp if anyone is interested.

Goodness @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I'm so sorry to hear that what a shock. And being careless is not great i guess, can you afford a car or manage with busses? What do the kids think? So many questions but I think i mentioned before all my relationships ended with weighloss, so I am being super careful this time

PearlTeapot · 23/11/2025 20:58

Just jabbed. Could only get 25 clicks before it locked, so I’ve only been able to have 2mg.

PAINED ME to watch them bin my 5mg pen that I could have got 2 more doses out of!

New 5mg pen will give me 8 doses, assuming they don’t notice and make me bin it after 4. They haven’t noticed I’ve used this one for 6 so I’m hopeful.

I know it’s only 0.5mg or whatever but taking 2 and not 2.5 has upset me. Will just try hard this week.

There are five buses a day out of the village. Grin
Luckily I've got plenty of friends with cars. They've all been amazing.

I'm the conductor of three dementia choirs, two of which are not in my own village. Lots of people are helping me out.

Sorry broon that's so tough. I'm in the opposite boat and would give anything for my DH to leave. Annoyingly we rent and he wont leave as he's never lived alone in the UK and has chosen to never be the one that pays bills ect. I imagine I'll have to wait till he finds a new woman who'll look after him. Pathetic state really

My God.
Another totally useless man.

Considering how strong all we women on the thread are, we don't seem to have a very reliable bunch of life partners behind us.

OP posts:
GnomeDePlume · 24/11/2025 07:36

I do wonder if the comparison thing also happens in partners and friendships as well. Do some partners get reassurance from being the 'more attractive one' in a partnership, same in friendships. They gain confidence that they could 'do better'.

One partner changes themselves, this then upsets the dynamic.

It isnt just weight, it could be anything. One partner stuck in a job they hate, gets a promotion and starts loving their job. The other partner may have seen themselves as the 'more successful one' or 'the supportive one'.

I had one of those, he moved in after a month, proposed after six weeks and only after marriage did I discover he was alcoholic and had a vasectomy. I was 35 and he knew I wanted kids straightaway. He refused to leave, was just about on the right side of not violent I couldn't fetch the police. I am weirdly proud of this because it worked. I cheated on him, with one of his friends in his local pub. Just snogging, but he was quickly told about it and his ego couldn't handle it. He moved out after about a month and we got divorced. I dont advocate cheating, but it had been ten miserable years.

GnomeDePlume · 24/11/2025 08:34

Weird thing, trod on the scales, I have gained 8kg. Checked with other scales. I was late injecting this week but otherwise have eaten exactly the same.

Very strange!
