We're all getting there.
Even if it's very slow now.

It is strange when you realise that you can choose anything to wear as everything’s available in your size. It’s taken ages for me to stop defaulting to looking for size 22 plus and to look for the things I actually like, rather than the things I think might hide me the most.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 01/11/2025 22:48

I'm still bigger round my stomach. I live in navy leggings and I'm just not quite sure what size to order!!

Rainbowcat77 · 01/11/2025 23:31

I’m having a slight slump at the moment because it’s my birthday weekend. It’s actually really hit home how quickly too many carbs and sugar in particular will throw me off course.
i did have a lovely NSV tonight though. My original “enough is enough” moment was not fitting into a theatre seat and spending the whole show in pain perched on the front inch of the seat. Tonight I ventured back to the theatre and slotted easily into my seat and was comfortable for the whole performance.

I don't tend to record my weight weekly as I weigh every day ,and record when I get a loss on the scales
I used to go a couple of weeks not weighing because I couldn't bear the numbers I was seeing ..then I managed to put 4 pounds on that took a month to get off ( August) and I started weighing daily ,so if I put a pound on ,I can quickly get it off again .
I'm trying to think of ways to stay consistent for when I'm at maintenance.
In 3 more stone off I will be the thinnest I've been as an adult..that might be where I choose to stop ..
I look at my body in the mirror and 4 pregnancies, years of yo yo dieting have taken their toll.
I'm slightly concerned of what my stomach is going to look like ..I keep seeing people going for skin removal on social media, and I know I haven't the money for that ..
Anyway approx 9 stone 5 pounds off so far

getthingsdone · 02/11/2025 08:18

Regarding the topic of winter clothes:
I've lost about 25 kg or 4 stone since last winter (February) and went from size 24/26 to 22. I have pulled out my very large box of "too small" clothes from the basement and have sooo much clothes to choose from! Most of the things in that box must have been hidden in there for approximately 5 years since I found a fabric mask in one of the coats' pockets which was used in the first Covid winter of 2020.
The coats and jackets are still lovely. I'm also wearing the knitwear and shirts. The jeans I'm not sure about though. They fit perfectly and are very comfortable, however the style is extremely slim fit (I've always had quite slim legs). My teenage daughters think that style looks hideous and I even agree that the jeans look quite dated in 2025!
So what am I supposed to do with those perfectly fitting but out-of-style jeans? So far I am still wearing my now too big (and baggy looking) jeans with a belt so they won't fall off which is starting to look equally ridiculous.
So what would you recommend? Go with the skinny jeans from 2020 in size 22 or continue wearing the baggy ones in sizes 24/26?
Eventually I will need to buy new clothes when I reach a size 18/20 as I don't own any clothes smaller than a size 22. However, it seems unreasonable to spend the money now as I have a wardrobe full of perfectly fine (although outdated) clothes.
I also assume that it will take until spring for me to drop another two sizes to a 18/20 as it has taken me well over half a year to drop from my original 24/26 to my current size 22. So I'm planning to make do with whatever clothes I own and go on a shopping spree next spring.

Autumnflowers2 · 02/11/2025 08:34

@getthingsdone .. personally I'd wear the jeans from 5 years ago
I see all kinds of jeans been sold in shops ,skinny and straight leg .
I've just thrown out anything bigger than a 22 this weekend.
So two bags to the charity shop
Most of those 22s are to big ,like all the 22s are big on me ..but they need more wear out of them before I'm happy to get rid of them

Autumnflowers2 · 02/11/2025 08:36

Also ,slim fit is in anyway..
Is your daughter quite young @getthingsdone ..mine is 27 and she says anyone wears anything these days

Yes, my daughters are teenagers and have very strong opinions about what clothes, hairstyles, make-up, taste of music etc. are acceptable (like many teens, I guess).
I am aware that it is great to now finally have a choice in what I can wear instead of putting on whatever would fit around my body as before. I used to live in oversized dresses and leggings for quite a while as all kinds of jeans felt uncomfortable on my very large belly. Also t-shirts tended to ride up and leave my midsection exposed, hence the dresses.
So musing over the style of jeans is quite some progress - an NSV so to speak!

PearlTeapot · 02/11/2025 09:27

How fun to shop from your own wardrobe,. @getthingsdone hope you've found a few bits that make you feel good.

It's a good job I'm happy and comfortable accepting compliments and talking about my weight loss as it's constant here. I've lost exactly 6 stone since I was discharged in July 2024 so everyone mentions it. It's actually been quite good for my dsyphoria as I do really struggle to see it but seeing so many people so shocked feels awesome. And I've had some of my meds reduced which was a big surprise based on my new weight (I'll always need to be on them but just at a lower dose now).

Mind you I've only worn pjs since I've been here, it's been almost 3 weeks and I can't see the point of getting dressed, I have this past week been feeling more clear headed and showering and changing more though. So thank goodness for the new pjs I bought.

Maybe I should make a list of 'facts' to help me when I look in the mirror and feel the same.

-my wedding and engagement rings fit
-my apple watch is now on the 3rd hole
-my pjs are 18 instead of 24
-my 'too small' clothes that have been packed away since before covid were now mostly much too big when we got them out so went off to the charity shop
-I can shop in supermarkets
-my feet got smaller
-I can walk for an hour without stopping

PearlTeapot · 02/11/2025 09:29

(Actually that last one really worries me, I've not left my room at all so I'm terrified I'm going to be back to square one at not being able to walk again. But for various reasons I can't go outside yet although I do keep asking.)

getthingsdone · 02/11/2025 09:45

Those are great NSVs @PearlTeapot !
I am also able to wear my wedding ring again after almost a decade of not wearing it💍.
And I'll be off on my jogging round (just waiting for said teenage daughter to get dressed and come along). I am doing a modified version of the couch to 5k program and can now run for 2x 10 minutes.🏃‍♀️

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/11/2025 09:48

@PearlTeapot big hugs. Is there anything on the ward you can do to pass the time - have they got OT or "activities"? It can be worth it even if its soemthing you're not normally interested in.

Truly don't worry about the walking or the weight. I have been doing a strength programme and stuck to it religiously since about June. But had to stop the last 3 weeks too. I've jsut gone in a bit lighter but your body remembers. It doesn't just all "go" overnight.

Much love to you while you heal. How's the food? I'm so glad there are people who remember you and are nice.

@getthingsdone I'm very much still in leggings and dresses. To the extent I've just ordered more navy leggings to go with my 4 navy cardigans... It's a uniform or sorts with just different dresses in between. I have had to accept I needed smaller clothes though even though I'm not hwer ei want to be so I've got a "capsule wardrobe".

I so want to wear jeans again but really don't think my stomach is there yet. I think I'm likely to wait to near target and then go hunting. I remember from 15-20 years ago how hard j found it to find a pair that fit.

Rainbowcat77 · 02/11/2025 09:54

@PearlTeapotI hope you feel better soon and you’re able to start your walking again but try not to worry about it until then. Well done on your weight loss and enjoy the compliments!

Lds1 · 02/11/2025 10:16

@PearlTeapot you have achieved so much already, I wouldn't worry about the walking just having less weight makes it a million times easier than when we started.

I've been doing decorating this weekend, it was still hard work but I'm trying to think how much harder it would have been 2 years ago. I think I'd have just not bothered getting round to it, like in the last 7 years!

Billybingbong · 02/11/2025 11:42

@PearlTeapot it sounds like you're doing great, and how lovely that so many have noticed your fantastic weight loss. I wouldn't worry too much about the walking, you'll soon get back into it when the time is right. I think you mentioned you have a walking pad, could you maybe get that brought in for you to use in the meantime?

After your previous post about your new Chelsea Peers pyjamas, I've treated myself to a pair. £10 BNWT from Vinted, they are absolutely gorgeous, I love them. You have impeccable taste 😁

PearlTeapot · 02/11/2025 12:17

@Billybingbong hahah thank you! I have 4 pairs I am living in on rotation here now so thankful I splashed out just before I came. How soft are they though?!

The walking pad is more like small treadmill sized and I'm actually in a London hospital even though I live near Edinburgh.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 02/11/2025 13:01

Wow @Autumnflowers2 well done on 9st 5lb off!

@getthingsdone go to Vinted. You'll find millions of things on there at excellent prices. You can sell your stuff that's too big for you as well.

Gosh that must be horrid being so far from home. Do you have friends locally who can visit? What about your family are they with you?

Mum2Fergus · 02/11/2025 18:40

Big (massive!) day for me today! Have been purging my wardrobe with the loss of each stone…reached 2-3 outfits max left about a month ago, so hit the shops today! Not loads as I’m still in my journey, but I got a sz16 jumper AND a SMALL jumper, it’s a baggy small lol but a small nonetheless 🤣 bearing in mind I was in 24-26 in February this year, I’m a happy bunny!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/11/2025 23:06

WOw @Mum2Fergus Thats fantastic! And it must be the day for it. I am more of an 18 (pos 20 on bottoms, 16 in seasalt..) and have just cleared my 24-28 size dresses and leggings. I tried a few on to be sure and they really don't fit! It's amazing to see it like that.

Billybingbong · 02/11/2025 23:21

Ive had what I'm calling a non scale non victory today. I picked up the most gorgeous jumper in Tesco sale, size XL, and it's too bloody big. I thought I'd get away with is as its a slouchy fit, but its bloody hanging off me, it looks ridiculous. It's the first time ever im not happy an item of clothing is too big 🙄

Lds1 · 03/11/2025 06:50

@Billybingbong take it back and see if they have a smaller one! :). There must be something about Tesco jumpers I bought one and tried on all the sizes from XL to small because they were all so big, I definitely wouldn't class myself as small but it was a nice boost at the time!

TheZingyFish · 03/11/2025 10:00

4st 13lbs off in total, usually I’d be disappointed to be so close to the next stone and just missing it, but today marks 20% off from my initial body weight!

A few NSV, I’ve noticed I can bend over and put socks or cut/paint my toe nails more easily and that I can go upstairs more easily. I realised that for a long time I used to move my right foot up one step and bring my left foot to the same step but am now able to move the left foot to the step above like most people would. It is only now when I’ve realised how I was doing it before and how bad I must have been to have needed to do that.

It is a real eye-opener to what limitations the excess weight put on us that at times we don’t realise as it becomes the norm.

Rainbowcat77 · 03/11/2025 11:31

Well done @TheZingyFish these are achievements that make a huge difference to your life, almost 5 stone is a massive achievement.
i can relate to the stair thing, i think it’s become a bit of a bad habit now though too.

GnomeDePlume · 03/11/2025 11:38

Some amazing weightlosses and NSVs.

I have a couple of NSVs to add:

  • went to the optician's and sat in a chair, with arms! At no point during the appointment did my size get in the way.
  • I went through my clothes, looking for a pair of trousers as I have to go into the office this week. I was left with a single solitary pair of size 24 office trousers which hopefully wont fall down.

I'm not sure the second one is really an NSV as I now have a lot of hangers and not a lot of clothes. I need to stop faffing about making Christmas cushion covers and get on with making myself some clothes.
