Elcella - anyone else trying it?

Hi, name changed for this, I’ve purchased a month’s supply to try and I’m coming up to a week and think it’s really helped me to quieten the food thoughts. However taking it as recommended at lunch and dinner means the mornings are hard so I’m experimenting when’s best to take it. Just wondered if anyone else is trying it and how they’ve found it?

I had never heard of it but just had a quick google and it looks to be just oil?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 31/08/2025 21:01

It's not cheap!
£595 for 12 weeks of oil capsules?

Weekendofthoughts97 · 31/08/2025 21:17

The capsules have multiple ingredients and yeah it’s expensive but I wanted to try it first before WLI as I’ve heard horror stories about WLI impacting liver function and how people gain weight when they stop ie it isn’t actually helping them change eating habits. The oils are natural but I believe the science is getting it to the gut without being digested in the stomach. Also WLI I believe are due to increase significantly in price? Elcella has helped me this last week hugely but I’m reserving judgment until the end of the month of taking it

I'm very interested to see if it works OP.

Oh wow, I didn’t even look at the cost.

OP they are on par with WLI cost wise but WLI have science behind the medication. You have just bought oil.

MolluscMonday · 31/08/2025 21:22

Is it just linseed and coconut oils in a capsule, or have I misunderstood?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 31/08/2025 21:23

I’ve tried it and found it crap tbh. I had high hopes.

It works a bit in the first week ( but only a bit) made no difference at all after that.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 31/08/2025 21:24

A lot of people are going to stay on MJ long term.
I'm not sure that there is any evidence that it causes liver damage? Have you got a link for that?

Elcella have science behind them, it’s designed by Queen Mary University

oh I completely accept I haven’t got scientific proof for it causing liver issues that but as someone who’s experienced liver problems from antibiotics and now has regular blood tests, even reading other posters write about it was enough to scare me

4 weeks. I couldn’t even tell if l’d taken them or not.

Such a let down.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope it works for you but I do believe there is a massive difference between this and a GLP1 medication.

yeah I’m determined to stick with it for the month. I accept it’s not as powerful as WLI but I’ve lost nearly 2 pounds this week which is double what I was achieving on my own because the ‘food noise’ was so hard to ignore, with Elcella it just makes it easier to say no, but I still have to want to say no if that makes sense, it would be very easy to override it

Thank you and yeah I never thought it was the same but my point is, if it does even a small part of what WLI can achieve but with no unnatural ingredients it’s got to be worth something and would rather try this first then go all in on WLI and there be a risk of some (however unlikely) side effect. I respect the decision is totally dependent on everyone’s own personal circumstances

I also think, that for the minimal effect it has it’s way too expensive.

SereneCoralDog · 31/08/2025 21:40

You can buy 180 flaxseed (linseed) soft capsules for about a tenner. The same for coconut oil. A litre of MCT oil for about £22. That would probably be more than a months worth, even if you're taking a high dose and several a day.

So you're looking at about £100 I reckon for 3 months worth of the 3 oils. You could probably cut that down, I looked for two minutes.

WHY on Gods green earth would you pay over £500 for the same?! There's nothing extra in them. You literally can buy and take the same supplements yourself for a fraction of the cost.

The ingredients in Mounjaro aren't unnatural though.
Where did you get that idea?

i believe the science is in the coating surrounding the ingredients so that it doesn’t get absorbed in the stomach and instead reaches the gut

im using unnatural in the colloquial term, in that it’s obvious you cannot buy it ‘over the counter’ in the same way you can more ‘natural’ options like elcella

I think for the fact it does have an impact even if more minor and it’s readily accessible combined with the fact some WLI are apparently going to increase in price I don’t think it’s that bad

To be honest I’m not sure colloquial means what you think it means, and this oil is so expensive it’s already more expensive then wli.

I think you’re missing my point. Firstly, using the term ‘natural’ to mean not a prescription-controlled medication is not an unreasonable interpretation. Secondly, yeah it might be more expensive now but once WLI go up in price this year there’s not going to be that much difference. Plus there is a reason people have to be approved for WLI because it is not risk free. Personally I’d rather try less invasive, more ‘natural’ options first instead of going straight to WLI. The fact it is lower risk has a value in itself, in my opinion.

For this to be true, it would have to be resistant to being dissolved by stomach acid. And what, pass through whole to your gut?

Maybe someone science-y can explain how/whether this would be possible and why? Because to me (not science-y at all), even if it were true, it does not sound healthy at all!
