Shemed January Starters - Thread 4

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/08/2025 18:38

Hello everyone! I completely missed the other thread was full (haven't been too well this week) so I've started this one and will tag as many people as I can think of from recent pages. Do tag anyone else you think of that might miss the new thread!

I hope everyone is okay. It's been unsettling times hasn't it with all the news about the price increases and very little from Shemed as to what they are planning. I am hopeful that of all people we will be shielded the most due to being on the Study (fingers crossed).

I weighed in this morning and took second dose of the 10mg. I seemed to put on this morning but if I take the weight I've been most of this week...

I am exactly half way to my target! And I've lost 25% of my bodyweight!

10mg - so far no burps or nausea but I am wondering if this extreme tiredness is in part due to the drug. Was eating just as I was before the last couple of days but today don't want to eat so who knows!

I'll read up and tag people if I can.

Hey ladies! Just been lurking as not much news. Hope you’re doing ok @JBJ must have been very frightening & hope you get answers soon. ❤️
I’ve stayed with SheMed & switched to Wegovy (purely due to cost). I was on 10mg MJ they prescribed 1mg wegovy - first dose taken last Saturday). I had a 4 week plateau before switching- think it’s just a coincidence but I’ve dropped 2lb since. It seems to be my pattern now.
Suppression is good so far & no constipation (it had been a little issue since on 10mg).
sw 14st 12lb
cw 11st 7lb. BMI currently 29.4

kittykarate · 08/10/2025 10:39

I've just done my last 0.5 mg Wegovy, heading up to 1mg next week as I think I was due a move up anyway on my mounjaro.

I had stalled on mounjaro 7.5, and was gaining/losing the same 2 kilos. I'm back losing again (though only small amounts) so that's good news.

The constipation seems to be a bit more manageable (thank you kiwi fruit!) but I just have to keep an eye on my liquid intake and get some more fibre in on the regular I think.

I've noticed that my resting heart rate is lower on Wegovy - on average 5bpm I'd say. I'm waking up less hot and cluthered in the night. I still feel a bit chilly at times, but with mounjaro I did get some 'OMG I'm dying of hypothermia' times which were really unpleasant.

JBJ · 08/10/2025 13:47

Well, injecting 8mg on Monday seems to be working well. Constipation has eased no end, thank goodness, and appetite suppression seems to be pretty much the same as it was on 10mg.

I’ve emailed SheMed to say I won’t be continuing after this last pen (got a full one to take) and have one 10mg in the fridge from Numan, plus I’ll have another coming from there next month, as I asked to cancel and they gave me another decent discount! After that, I’m not sure. Pharmulous are looking to be the cheapest I can find at £239.99 for a 10mg pen - anyone seen cheaper elsewhere? I’m going to be using the pens over 5 weeks to stretch out the cost a bit, so need somewhere moving forwards that doesn’t insist on monthly pens!

JBJ · 10/10/2025 22:16

Back from holiday today and I weighed this evening and I’m exactly the same as I was on Monday, which is brilliant as I’m always heavier later in the day, so looking hopeful for a loss on Monday 🤞 8mg seems to have been a success, so I’ll try that again on Monday I think.

Hope you’re all getting on well!

Hey all, what a ride this has been!

I decided to stay on Shemed and go for Wegovy and it's been awful. I've gained weight and all my inflammation symptoms have come back. They'd got very steadily better and wasn't sure whether to attribute it to MJ or not but now I definitely know that it is the MJ that was helping. But now I've been prescribed Wegovy and only at 0.5 I have to stay on shemed to get the prescription for MJ 7.5 then finally move up to 10 - made the stupid decision in summer to stay on 7.5 when they offered me to move up, and then after that they said there were shortages for 10 so I didn't really have a choice.

So, I've just had a 7.5 arrive from Shemed, and I'll go up to 10 next month and pay whatever I have to. After that I'll see about other pharmacies. I do wonder if I can up my own dose with the 7.5 to be taking an equivalent of 10 in a couple of weeks.. instead of using the golden dose? has anyone done that?

I've lost 3 stone and really have 2 more to lose but it's the wider health benefits that I need to get back. We're extremely lucky that we're in a position right now where we can pay whatever we need to but obviously I can't carry on like this indefinitely. I really don't know if a lower maintenance dose will keep the immuno stuff at bay further down the line when I titrate down.

That is really interesting. I wondered if it was the GLP1 or mj that helped with inflammation. I only went up to 5 and have been on 2.5 for maintenance for the last 4.5 months and I'd say I feel pretty good. I want to try and come down further although I have had some aches and pains recently and feel quite tired, but also recovering from what was probably COVID. I've also been eating a lot more sugar...
I will continue to swerve wegovy.
You can probably go up to 10 with a different pharmacy with evidence of a 7.5

Shmallow · 11/10/2025 20:07

It's either that both meds would keep it bay but I've been on the same/equivalent dose for so long the efficacy has waned OR that mounjaro specifically helped, in a way that wegovy isn't. I suppose I'll know in a few weeks really but all of my evening itching has come back, angioedema may not be far behind, and I'm once again intolerant to alcohol. All of those symptoms had completely disappeared over time and I hadn't had them for months until last week, and it's got steadily worse since then. I started Wegovy just over 2 weeks ago.

YouWillFindMeUnderCats · 12/10/2025 20:18

My first week on Wegovy has been fine. I’ve not had any nausea or noticeable side effects which was one of my main concerns. My arthritic knee pain has been ok. I think the pain might even have been reduced slightly, certainly earlier on in the week. It’s might have been slightly harder this week to stay focussed. A couple of biscuits might have slipped through (all tracked and accounted for, but I haven’t really been tempted over the last little while so that’s new.)

But…I lost just over a pound, hitting the 4 stone mark! My next milestone is the 5 stone mark which I really want to have reached by Christmas.

I hope every one has had a good week and the losses continue.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/10/2025 21:10

Hello peoples - Sorry I'm aware I've not been around for a while - it has been a real rollercoaster of a week - some real highs and some real lows .

@JBJ I hope you get some answers. Yay for a holiday without gain!
@HangryBrickShark Pharmulous is 239 for 10mg....
@Reginaphalangeeeee Hope you are having an amazing time!
@Shmallow Grrrrr. I've seen a few posts like that - I wonder if its to do with decreasing the equivalent dose as much as it is the change of meds (so some people would get it back if they start going up the doses maybe?) I don't think they know. I definitely with the 2 pharmacies I've been with just had to show the prescrption on the box and they ask ifyou want the same dose or next one up. I didn't realise wuite how difficult SheMed was until I went elsewhere...
@YouWillFindMeUnderCats Wow 4 stone that's fantastic :) Well done!

I weighed in Friday at 15st 1 which seems impossible. Where I've not been focussing on it its just been happening in the background. 13st 3 is where I want to get to to be "not obese" but that won't be this year. I just can't believe that is less than 2 stone away. It seems a far more manageable goal than it did in January at 21st 11!

I have bought a SeaSalt dress at size 18 - I know its a seasalt 18 rather than a real one but I love it so much. I just feel so much smaller and am aware of it now. I still feel those first few months were the silent months... and now I'm reaping the benefits.

8 has been much better than 10 for side effects - not had the sulphur burps in the second week of 8, or the really bad cramps. But really really don't want to eat and do still get some cramps. have no idea what is going on.

I went down partly so i could uel up on "good fats" again to see if it would help the lethargy. My husband has been lovely - he heated up a small rice pudding with jam when I said I fancied it - and then when he gave it to me it just made me feel stuffed and I couldn't eat it (I did eat it later. )

I am still very very tired but part of that has been not sleeping...
zzz.
Amazing to see everyone's photos and victories ❤

Sounds like you're doing so well @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden! What pharmacies have you used, I might ask them if I can move up to 10mg now I have the 7.5 in hand.

I've done quite a bit of looking into it now and it's definitely that MJ helps in a way wegovy can't. It's because of the dual action - the second thing that MJ does over and above GLP-1 is work on GIP. GIP seems to have a role in mast cell activation and so MJ can calm histamine responses. So I am absolutely convinced that my GP was right and I have an immune disorder (I'd been back and forth between dermatology and my GP), and that MJ is able to keep it under control. When it settles again (I hope!) I'll get a new referral to a derm that deals in immune system stuff and see if there are other ways of calming it that don't cost so much! For now though, I still have weight to lose so will stick to MJ.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/10/2025 22:19

Ooh that's interesting. I had been nervous to move off mounjaro in case it was that that was "magic".

I've used Medino - but they've put prices up. Pharmulous is the one I was about to use at £239 for 10mg, but I've just used Rowlands pharmacy who had some left at old prices - when they put it up I'll go to Pharmulous. Rowlands were very thorough - have to do an actual online chat - but worth it for the savings!

Did you go into a Rowlands store? There’s a branch not a million miles from me. Can’t see anything on their website about WLI though.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/10/2025 22:36

I ordered it online - its a different part of Rowlands bur you can do in store. Saves the call... I believe they'd weigh you but well worth it. Worth asking if they are doing it as it was a lot cheaper.

Kaggi9 · 13/10/2025 07:16

Well, it’s been five and a half weeks now since I switched to Wegovy and it’s likely that the MJ is completely out of my system, so I thought I’d give an update.

No side effects except that I’m quite cold, and the injections are easier to administer and the pens seem sturdier.

The negatives? Well, I feel very limited suppression and the food noise is definitely back. For the just over 7 months I was on MJ, I had no headaches, which I had been waking up with almost daily prior to that, no illnesses or issues with periods (I’m heading for the menopause). In the last 2 weeks, I’ve had a cold, a series of morning headaches and the most horrendous period I’ve had in years.

Coincidence?!

Shmallow · 13/10/2025 09:58

I don't think it's a coincidence, I think MJ is definitely better for that food noise and suppression.

I've been looking at Pharmulous, I think I'm going to try and order a 10mg from them next week when I've restarted my 7.5mg, and then stick with them if they're good to use. It's basically been a miracle drug for me.

JBJ · 13/10/2025 10:02

Weigh in day - first week trying 8mg - and I’ve lost 3.7lb, despite being away for 5 days!! Did do a ridiculous amount of walking though Now weighing in at 15st 12lb, which is fantastic to see on the scales. 5st 10.5lb loss in total.

JBJ · 13/10/2025 12:45

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardenjust had a consultation with Rowlands and they’ve accepted me. Really good price, so very happy!

tinyemmy · 13/10/2025 22:57

I'm checking in, jabbed my usual 2.5 (from a 5mg pen) today. Weight is up a bit but still within my range but I need to spend this week trying to lose the extra before I go on holiday. I leave next Wednesday, my intention is to jab before I go next Monday and then either leave it a full two weeks and jab the Monday after I'm back or jab on Wednesday night / Thursday morning. I will let the scales decide!
I still need to order from Pharmulous. I will probably wait until I get back from holiday now...

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/10/2025 16:53

@JBJ That's fab! Did you do in person oe online? I hope they keeo the lower prices for a bit!

@tinyemmy it sounds like its settled to within your range now doesn't it? And its normalxfor weight to fluctuate a bit. Hope you have an amazing holiday 😊.
@Kaggi9 hmm. It does sound not a coincidence doesn't it!
@Shmallow ooh let us know how you get on. When my current supplier runs out of current stock pharmulous is my long term plan.

I went into the shop as there’s one not far from me. Really good service

Reginaphalangeeeee · 15/10/2025 09:29

good morning all!
just returned from Disney Paris. Eaten all sorts of pastry and baked goods non-stop and should really get on the scales. Hoping the damage not too bad as walked 20-25K steps each day. I even surprised myself as a few occasions I actually ran (late for bookings/flights) and managed it well! Made me consider I could begin CT5K now.

Just catching up here but @JBJand @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden sounds like a new supplier?
Did you get good deals?

I got annoyed with postage’s/delivery issues and Numans lack of help with it. I have paused my plan with them even though they are offering lower and lower prices. I think £189 now.
I have just started a new pen and have 2 more in stock still. A friend also given me a 5mg pen that date is up Jan 2026 as she stopped now.
wondering best place to order or if I stick with my stock pile for now? I worry may not get 10mg if too long of a gap. But if stock pile and delivery so poor that pens arrive >48hours from fridge that effectiveness may be affected?

kittykarate · 15/10/2025 11:24

5th Wegovy done, 1st at 1mg.

A weight loss of 300g this week - across the 4 doses of 0.5 I lost 1.4kg. So a bit slower than I'd hoped, but better than a gain. Still under the 70kg, my shemed weight (clothes + phone) is 68.7.

Inching slowly towards my personal goal of 65kg ( BMI range for my height is between 43.4 kilograms and 58.5 kilograms)

Reginaphalangeeeee · 15/10/2025 13:22

Well done @kittykarate!
So close now!

I plucked up courage for weigh in & a 0.5kg loss. Not bad while in Disney. Also I am late for my period so really hoping for a whoosh next week.

At 101.5kg this means I have broken the 16stone barrier (just) whoop whoop 🥳.
I so want to get under 100kg next.

I think all the sugary treats travelling and hormones is driving my food noise a bit. Hope it will settle and to be under 100 by Nov maybe.

KoalaKoKo · 15/10/2025 14:22

Started Wegovy last week at 1mg and up 1.1kg this week which is a bit disappointing - also feel a lot flabbier but part of that is probably cancelling exercise classes due to a bad cold. I have definitely been worse with food this week too.

Will see how I get on - I said I would give it a try just because the cost difference is a lot and I had been staying around the same weight for two
months. If the weight keeps going up I will switch back to Mountjaro!
