Waaaah it’s stopped working

I’ve been taking Mounjaro since Sep last year. Lost 3 stone by Jan. Lost about 3-4lbs since. But worse…..the suppression seems to have stopped. I feel no different taking it to skipping it (have had to do twice). I’m at the max. I guess I have less bad cravings. But certainly not none.

So disappointed as I have another few stone to lose. Should I take a proper break and reset?

Or this has been since I’ve swapped to Voy - delivered by Post Office not very cold - could it be this?

any advice?

I've had a delivery which was definitely not cold by the time it reached me (in one of the heatwaves) and it made no difference to my food suppression.

What does your supplier suggest?

I had one month where it didn’t seem to be working at all, but the next month I was back to normal with good suppression and I’ve lost loads since so it might be worth sticking with it?

Palmparlour · 03/08/2025 10:43

@Motnight no idea, never spoken to them!

I’m the same OP. I’ve lost nothing in the last 4 months despite still needing to lose another 2 stone. It’s soul destroying. I’m literally up and down by 3lbs. I’m on 12.5mg, still have suppression but nothing is happening.

I too am with Voy, they just suggest tracking food but that’s it!

Completely feel for you. I’ve no idea either what to do. Hate injecting now.

Palmparlour · 03/08/2025 10:48

@TwoHoots74 do you have as much suppression as before and have you always been with Voy?

OP posts:
lunar1 · 03/08/2025 10:50

I switched from Ozempic to munjaro when I stalled, it gave me another kickstart.

ThinkingaboutMJ · 03/08/2025 10:51

Are you calorie counting? Have you recalculated since losing weight? Have you increased exercise?

Palmparlour · 03/08/2025 11:05

@ThinkingaboutMJ I’m really enquiring about others experience of no longer having any appetite suppression

Sorry you said it's not working. The suppression element is really variable for people and does wear off. For me having changed my eating and exercise patterns and keeping check of both, it's easier to stick to with less suppression. I don't intend to be on it long term so knew I'd have to go it alone at some point. That structure and reviewing it, is what helps me.

Wallywobbles · 03/08/2025 11:09

I spent a long time around 90 - 92 kg. Maybe 4 months. I’ve increased the dose every three months though because I had a long way to go and didn’t want to reach the top. I’ve never had fast loss. I found that even when the scales did not budge my body was still changing so I tried to take comfort from that.
I’m a 15 months in and 28kg down. I could lose another 20 but I’m pretty sure that’s ever going to happen.

northernlight20 · 03/08/2025 11:18

i know you are asking about suppression, but i would say if you arent losing and not calorie counting then you are not in a calorie deficit. i would track calories and see where you are at, not great to rely soley on suppression.

cramptramp · 03/08/2025 11:21

They have all stopped working for me eventually. It just happens to some people.

TwoHoots74 · 03/08/2025 11:31

@Palmparlouryes. Always been with Voy. The consultant sessions aren’t that great. They just say about food swaps and basic stuff that most of us know about.

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/08/2025 11:34

What does a typical day of eating look like for you at the moment? I ask because I notice less ‘suppression’ feelings if I eat carbs, the weeks where I’ve been on holiday and have let myself relax my food choices and eat pastries for breakfast, or drink sugary drinks, I’ve felt properly hungry. Still taking the MJ, but it is less effective.

Mounjaro works by increasing insulin production in response to excess sugar, and my slowing down digestion. If your diet doesn’t support those mechanisms then you could be reducing the effects of it.

So being really critical, can you answer yes to all of the below:

  • You drink enough water
  • you sleep enough
  • you eat a well balanced diet with plenty of protein, fibre and fat
  • you eat a calorie deficit, around 500 below TDEE daily/averaged over the week.
Palmparlour · 03/08/2025 11:34

hmmm okay. I have another month delivered and will use that then will swap provider and see if any difference.

if you are in the UK, where did you get ozempic from?

Sandycar · 03/08/2025 11:39

Have you tried changing your injection site?
I stalled for a few weeks and tried changing site to the back of the arm, it seemed to jumpstart the suppression.

No I’ve always done stomach. Will give it a go!

I haven't climbed up the doses, but "suppression" stopped after the first couple of months.

I found I needed to work with Mounjaro which meant all the usual advice - high protein, plenty of water, low carb, low sugar, minimal UPF and in return Mounjaro kept the food noise/cravings reduced and supported, at least part of the week, portion control.

If I eat too many carbs, sugar, UPF they override everything and cravings start to come back even with Mounjaro, so I know I need to keep my side of the bargain.

Exercise is still a work in progress.

I don't think what you are experiencing is unusual, have your food choices and calories changed/reduced enough? If not, as your body adjusts to the medication, it will continue to send signals looking for more of those hard to resist food types.

Gingercar · 03/08/2025 14:36

Have you spoken to Voy? I’m with them and they are very approachable- their aI bot is good for advice and they have clinicians you can talk to (Mon-Fri). You might as well get your money’s worth from them. That’s why they’re expensive.
I had a pen delivered from them in the middle of the heatwave that wasn’t that cold but was ok. They’re usually with those ice packs that stay reasonably cold even when melted.

Are you keeping a food diary? It’s always good to be able to assess if things aren’t going right.

Someone I know who is on 15mg has been advised by her prescriber to take it every 5 days which is working well for her. For weight loss, I always find going high protein and low carb makes a massive difference in weight loss.
For me 15mg is too strong for me, I've been on it 3 weeks and I'm really struggling to eat which has really surprised as the other doses wore off quickly for me. When they did wear off with doses remaining, my prescriber told me to jab every 5 days which worked a treat with suppression.

That's interesting because I've been on Ozempic for 18 months and lost over 4 stone but virtually nothing in the last 3 months. I'm thinking of switching to Mounjaro. Did you get side effects from Mounjaro? Did the Mounjaro kickstart your weight loss immediately?

No real side effects when I switched, and it was a pretty fast kickstart to weight loss again.

Palmparlour · 08/08/2025 09:42

Ok. So even though I had 3 doses left in my old pen I went on to the new pen I had this week (don’t ask, I got into a muddle switching between companies and ended up like this!). And BAM massive suppression, nausea etc. So I guess the last few Voy pen’s weren’t effectively working - I always kept it in the fridge so there was no reason unless it had gone over temperature whilst being delivered. Basically I seem to have been injecting non working Mounjaro for last couple of months….great.
