Mounjaro - Best tips from regular users

SweetpeaM33 · 27/07/2025 22:19

Hi all,

I've taken the plunge and ordered the first dose of Mounjaro today - I've been thinking about it for months and finally decided.

I was hoping to get some tips from regular users. Is there anything you wish you'd known, or done differently when you were starting out, or along your journey? Anything that helped you keep symptoms at bay? Any recommendations of supplements... or any other helpful advice please.

Thank you.

I use My Fitness Pal to manage my calorie intake. I see a lot of MN users recommending Nutracheck- can anyone tell me what makes it better? Is Nutracheck free?

PearlsPearl · 28/07/2025 13:19

Hi @Angelabdc it's free for a month and then I think £30 a year. I know MFP was free but I much prefer nutracheck. It's extremely rare that when you scan in a product they won't have it (think happened to me once in a year) as it's UK based unlike MFP. I find it easier to use, I like how things are displayed and tracked.

6 months in 5 stone down...

  • water is key
  • imodium for those bad tummy days
  • fibregel for constipation
  • track calories using nutracheck
  • don't cut anything out but eat in moderation
  • keep meals small and light I'm prone to being sick if I eat too heavy
  • jab on a day with not too much commitment the next day. It takes 24 hours for me before I feel the jab.
  • Alcohol makes me vommit but it may be different for you.
  • don"t obsess about the scales sometimes they will fluctuate up but if your general trend is down don't stress.
  • take pics in the same outfit so you can see the difference!

Good luck xx

Edited

Thank you so much - these tips are fantastic! Such a good idea to take photos in the same outfit to track progress - I was going to take photos, but didn't really think about using the same outfit. x

I started Mounjaro on Saturday, I don't feel hungry but I think that may be mind over matter, working so quickly!

I weighed in at 241.4 today, I'm planning on weighing everyday.

My diet will be counting calories - wish me luck 🐷

Good luck! I'm starting on Thursday evening... I WFH on Fridays and will have the whole weekend should there be any unwelcome side effects.

I know the desire is to lose as much weight as possible in the shortest time so many people chase suppression by zooming up the doses but 1-2lbs a week is probably more likely to be successful for long term weight loss as you won’t have been starving yourself and then undoing all your work when you stop (or have to stay on maintenance).

If you’ve not already got some, scales which break down your fat, muscle, bone density etc are useful. They may not be 100% accurate for every category but they are indicative and helpful to motivate you to eat more protein and exercise to maintain or build muscle (more muscle will burn more calories and help your weight loss). If you go to the gym, there might be more accurate scales there.

I use Cronometer to record my food intake. It has a really detailed nutritional breakdown and has a barcode scanner, custom foods and recipes and it’s free!

As well as taking photos, download the MeThreeSixty app and do a body scan in tight clothes (or your bra and pants) as you start. Do your own measurements to compare that it is accurate. Then repeat it as you lose weight. I didn’t do this till I was a few months in but even a weight loss of 10lbs was really noticeable in a side by side rotation comparison you can do on the app and I wish I’d done it when I started.

Good luck 😊

Thank you! I downloaded the app you recommended for body scans - but can't see where I'm supposed to upload photos to do the body scan?

You don’t upload photos, you let the app take them for you. Click on “Scan” and there’s a tutorial. You’ll need to clear a bit of space to stand in 2 particular poses to generate the measurements. When you lose a bit of weight you do it again and click “History” then “Compare” two scans side by side. You can do a 360 degree rotation of the scan when it’s complete but the option to increase or decrease your weight is a bit suspect - my legs get shorter as I lose weight apparently 😀

Also join the monthly starter group on here for your start date. It really helps to be doing it alongside people going through the same stuff both positive and negative. The people on mine are lovely and supportive and we all cheer each other on on weigh in days and recommend things that are helping or not and talk about our poop issues - you will either go too much or not enough but either way there will be poop talk! So find your group and if there isn't one then start one coz it really does make a big difference to have that little community of people who know what you're going through, especially if you're not telling people in real life as many people choose not to.

There’s a fifth dose in each pen if you don’t use too much when you prime. This can be extracted and taken with an insulin syringe. There are lots of videos and explanations online.

Or just whack a fresh needle head on the end no?

No. It doesn’t work. The pen will lock after 4 doses.

mine never have you just have to be firm and twist past the point you think will break it then pull and twist
can see on YouTube if that helps
I do it every time - just need to force it then jobs a good un x

SilenceInside · 28/07/2025 23:36

@Mondaytuesdayhappydays no, it doesn’t always work. Sometimes twisting hard breaks the mechanism internally and it becomes impossible to use the pen. That’s happened several times for me. So I just use syringes as I know that will always work and I don’t waste time trying to force the pen mechanism only to have it break apart.

Oh really ??
gosh I would be devasted if i lost the magic dose at the end saves so much money in the long run and gives that extra push double dosing at end of moth for that extra suppression and an extra lb or two loss!!
Thanks for the heads up x

Also those syringes are pennies online.

liquoriceallsortfamily · 29/07/2025 00:41

Has anyone got a link to the syringes online as I keep buying rubbish ones?

Thank you xx

I inject on a Thurs evening as I used to pig out over the weekend. Injecting before bed seems to dissipate the worst of the nausea that I used to have on a morning jab.

I drink lots of water, eat half portion meals, get my exercise, (even if it's a walk) and rest in.

threeeggsontoast · 29/07/2025 07:50

You’ve had loads of great advice here. At the start I wish I’d known not to compare my losses with others. I had a silly idea in my head that I’d just lose a load of weight in one go but in reality my losses have been closer to 1lb a week. But that is FAR, far healthier than the crash diets I’ve spent my life on…the ones where I inevitably quickly regain all the weight.

I’m now on W11 and have lost 1 stone 3lbs which I’m really pleased about. Another 3 stone to go but for the first time in 25+ years, I have actual hope that I can see this through. It’s by far the easiest thing I’ve ever done. Oh I’m also on 5mg and intend to stay here as long as it works. I get good suppression but not at a rate where I feel sick all the time. So far, it works nicely for me.

Great but for as many people who manage it there are double who can’t. It’s not supposed to work after 4 doses, it does lock. So what I said was correct.

Reading some of the comments has added more reason as to why I probably shouldn’t consider it. I already have bowel issues and liver issue. But it’s great reading others success stories.

A year in, 7 stone down.

Stop hyping it up so much. The vast majority of people are fine. I don’t take fibre, or Imodium or anything else. The only supplements I take are for my hair.

Can I ask what you are taking for your hair please ?

Lazygardener · 30/07/2025 11:25

4 stone down. My advice is not to chase huge losses, slow and steady is better in the long run. Don’t rush up the doses unless you need to. If you feel the need to drink a lot of water, fine, but I haven’t changed my water consumption, and there is no scientific evidence I know of which suggests you need 2-3 litres a day in addition to fluid from food, tea, coffee, soft drinks. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I would get a supply of needles and antiseptic wipes, as a surprising number of needles are duds, and it’s handy to have more wipes.

I don’t track calories. See how you go. It’s quite liberating not to have to do that, though one way or another you need to be in a calorie deficit.

Keep your photos so that you can see your progress, the mind plays tricks on you.

Finally, enjoy feeling fitter and slimmer!
