New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

Any tips for dealing with exhaustion? I already take b complex, biotin and vitamin d daily. I’m anaemic so take iron via prescription.

I’ve bought some electrolyte capsules today to see if that helps at all.

How many calories are you eating? Could it be that you aren't eating enough?

Around 1500 daily, although I’m trying not to count to the final calorie as I know I can get obsessive about it

Well, 1500 should be enough not to cause exhaustion. The usual suspects would be overall calories, protein (particularly if you’re active, as otherwise the body really struggles to repair muscle), water, electrolytes. It could be a temporary effect while your body gets used to burning other fuels if you have cut down hard on carbs as well, so you could try ensuring you have some complex carbs at each meal to help stabilise your blood sugars? Hope you manage to crack it 💕

Back from holidays today, I haven’t had my injection for a fortnight and certainly feeling hungry again, so back on it tonight!
sticking to 2.5 as have good supresssion

Adelesky · 07/08/2025 19:43

So - first 5mg jab on Mon evening and all of a sudden this eve I cannot finish my tea. Had 2 boiled eggs and some chicken for lunch. Bit pleased as was a little concerned/ annoyed that it hadn’t kicked in… was going to jab early on Friday but now not so sure need to. Anyone with similar experience? Well done everyone on all the losses

EnglishGirlApproximately · 07/08/2025 23:15

@AdeleskyI also went up.to 5mg on Monday and have a similar experience. I was quite hungry on Tuesday, less so yesterday and today have had to make myself eat a small amount of food. I'm not bloated or uncomfortable if I eat which is great, but I could definitely have managed without eating today. I'm making sure I have an evening meal though as it's important to me to eat normally with DS around, albeit much smaller portions.

Adelesky · 08/08/2025 07:26

@EnglishGirlApproximately thank you for sharing 😊 helps when you know you’re not on your own! Food noise totally died down now again, which is a relief and think that will take me through to Monday for jab no.2!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 08/08/2025 08:50

W5D6 today. I got a lot more food noise/hunger yesterday than I have had for a while, not sure if that is just because my jab is due today and it's wearing off, or because I went for a swim and so burned more calories. I had 1600 calories yesterday which is more than I've had since starting (apart from last Sat where I had almost that amount in booze alone, let alone the food!). I was still in a significant deficit though, and the scales have finally moved today after barely any movement all week so I'm hopeful for a decent loss tomorrow for my 'official' weigh in, and still comfortable with my decision to stay at 2.5mg for another pen. May revise that decision for the next pen if I start to struggle with the food noise towards the end of the week but I do want to keep some hunger signals so it's a tricky balance.

Is anyone noticing any weight loss yet? I’m 6kg down now which I really pleased about - my jeans feel a bit looser I guess but not hugely. I have another 14kg to get to healthy BMI so a third of the way there. But definitely not dropped a dress size yet!

No, but I'm not expecting to for quite a while yet - I'm about 8kg down but that's only about 5% of my starting weight so very unlikely to be noticeable. I'm in the middle of two weeks annual leave at the moment so I'm hoping that when I go back to work my uniforms might be slightly easier to zip up but we'll see!

Looking at it as a percentage makes sense. I carry almost all my weight in my stomach so had hoped to see a difference- but I think it’s also the last place I lose from!

EvelynSalt · 08/08/2025 11:15

W7D1, how time is flying! I’m still on 2.5mg and have just ordered the same for my next pen. I’m still getting good suppression for the most part and feel like I have a good handle on the dips now when they do happen. I also feel comfortable having some hunger to manage, looking ahead to the other side of all this and eventually stopping.

Results this week, I’m 0.5kg down, so a smidge over 1lb, but I’m on my period so expected a smaller number.

Overall results -
SW 100.6kg
CW 94.1kg
GW 70kg

Had a nice NSV this week, someone I hadn’t seen for a while looked surprised when she saw me and commented that I’ve lost weight (in a nice way!). That’s the first time someone has noticed so it was a nice motivator. Like others here, I know I’m losing and feel amazing, but not quite seeing big visible changes yet.

Well, today I decided to try on my Levi 32 inch (size 14?) jeans, and they fit 😃. Properly fit, not having to stretch to do them up or anything. So very happy with that.

AirborneElephant · 08/08/2025 11:50

Why are jean sizes so ridiculous? My actual waist measurement is still 35, so why do 32 inch jeans fit? Vanity sizing I guess, but when you’re claiming inches as sizes it feels really silly. These jeans aren’t old enough to have been stretched much, I bought them a couple of years ago but they were already tight and then I put on more weight. 😞

daisydreamies · 08/08/2025 13:31

W7D4 (thank god for shotsy for keeping track of how many jabs I’ve done haha) and the nausea is back, although not when I think of food, but when I think of my mounjaro pen. It’s really random. My third pen was delivered today and every time I thought about it, it made me feel sick.

The suppression is still very strong though, it lasts all week (compared to 2.5mg that would wear off by day5/6). I think I’ll be sticking with 5mg for a while as it seems to be the dose that works the best for me. I don’t think I’d be able to eat anything if I went up to 7.5mg, which isn’t sustainable for when I come off the jabs. I’m trying my hardest to build up good habits, so I don’t regain when I come off. I’m eating so much healthier now. Less snacks, I rarely eat crisps now (I used to have at least 1 pack a day and some days I’d have 3). I also drink less fizzy drinks (we had a crate of 24 Pepsi Max and I probably had 3 cans and my husband had the rest) and I’m not having coffee every day like I used to.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 08/08/2025 16:26

Due to jab tonight so my suppression is at its lowest and I also had a smallish lunch to save calories for dinner, meaning that I am now getting quite hungry but stuck at my parents house with no healthy snacks 😭 testing my willpower right now!!!

Can I ask whether anyone is suffering from uncomfortable trapped wind? And if you can recommend any peppermint capsules that are small in size? I really struggle with swallowing big tablets… thanks in advance!!

Well done.
I've now lost 10% of my bodyweight and nobody has said a word. Back in size 16 trousers, although the jeans restrict my breathing somewhat. Wondering when I'll look different to other people. Tak8ng weekly swimming costume photos and definitely can see a difference.

Maybe try peppermint water if you struggle with capsules?

Kittkats · 08/08/2025 18:56

Colpermin capsules are a little bit smaller than paracetamol capsules and work well, don’t know how small you need? They’re also quite hard so don’t stick like gel capsules do.

Hecatoncheires · 08/08/2025 22:02

Good evening! I’m a new July starter, have been on it for a couple of weeks and have just taken my 3rd jab. I’ve lost 11lbs in a fortnight. Am chuffed with that! I have oodles to lose but here’s to onwards and downwards. 😃

Kittkats · 09/08/2025 09:09

I’m W5D1 (I think? Started 4 weeks ago today, but did my 5th jab last night as I moved it a day early the week before…. Does that mean I’m W5D2?)

Weigh in day today and I’m now a healthy BMI (just!)
I’ve lost a total of 19lbs so 8.6kg in 4 weeks and passed the point my body refuses to pass on its own 7lb ago.

Kittkats · 09/08/2025 09:10

Also, I’ve taken the jump to 5mg last night . Fingers crossed no SE…

Wow, that's a massive loss when you are so close to a healthy BMI - usually it's harder when you have less to lose. I've lost almost exactly the same (8.3kg) in exactly the same amount of time, but I have waaaaaay more to lose so well done!

W5D1
SW 139.7kg
W1 -3.8
W2 -1.9
W3 -1.7
W4 -0.9

Thank you! I definitely do seem to lose a lot quicker than I thought I would, which is strange because I’ve eaten similarly for this amount of time soooo many times on diets and without MJ I’d have lost about a quarter of what I have with it.
It must have reset my metabolism or something (not 100% sure how it’s happened but there’s definitely more to it than just helping us eat better/ calories in vs calories out.) It does make me worry a bit about maintenance though and if I’ll be able to come off it ever!
1 stone to goal weight so I’ll think about that then i suppose.
