After previously using ozempic last year & regaining the weight (med induced), I decided to give mounjaro ago.

anyway, worked up to 5mg, no suppression. So when I took my last dose, I then also injected the golden dose alongside the 5mg.

I woke up at 5am nauseous, feeling like I have a sickness bug. You know like lethargic, waves of sickness.

have I gone to high? Or is this normal and it will settle down? The suppression has kicked in now on this dose

You have gone too high, but not much you can do now but ride through it. Lots of water and non-fattty, bland foods on the menu. You can ask your provider for advice, or seek other medical advice if you get worse.

How did you take the extra dose - hard twist or syringe? If by syringe, how much did you draw?

How much extra did you inject? The bonus dose is meant to be for the following week.

Well you’ve gone from 5mg to 10mg or more which is not a suggested dosing schedule. It’s a big jump up so high suppression and possible side effects are not unexpected. Did you use a syringe to extract the remaining liquid, or did you break the pen and inject that way? Just wondering if you know how many mg you actually injected?

The extra dose is more or less a full dose so if you took it at the same time, you've taken 10mg, so double what you were taking.

You've probably had over 10mg as the bonus dose is often more than a full dose. You'll just have to ride it out. It should peak by 72 hours and then it will start to leave your system.

I got a syringe and took out the full golden dose thinking it was 5mg….

basically I wasn’t getting any suppression so thought I’d double up, not realising I would be this sick. I have ordered 7.5mg for next week.

but ive still got 3 doses left of my 5mg, which isn’t enough.

Did you see the amount you had in the syringe before injecting? It could be anything from 0.6ml to 0.9ml, so 5mg to 7.5mg on top of the 5mg you’d already done.

If you’ve just taken the last dose from a 5mg pen plus the leftover medication, surely your new pen is full? Where is the 3 doses of 5mg coming from?

Well that was stupid wasn't it!! Why would you decide to jump to double your dose after 2 doses of 5mg and not even getting to the end of the pen?
You don't need to start the 7.5mg pen next week. Personally I would wait 10 days before injecting again then use the 5mg pen to administer 5mg and see how your tummy takes it. If it's ok, the week after you can increase to 7.5mg with your 5mg pen using a diabetes needle. I really wouldn't go up to 7.5mg immediately after this overdose.

Yes I am aware it wasn’t my brightest idea, but I figured as I hadn’t had any suppression at 5mg I’d be ok. Obviously not!

If you've got three doses of 5mg left you also hadn't yet had the full 5mg experience. It's typically the second dose after you titrate up that you get full effects of being at the higher value. Stay on 5mg for the rest of the month for goodness sake and you aren't meant to feel horribly suppressed just better able control your eating !!

I think you need to contact your prescriber for advice. You've taken a huge dose compared to where you should be. I know you have acknowledged it was a mistake but you need to be patient and stick to the schedule. It builds in your system and you've injected over double what your body was prepared for based on these estimates.

So if it was 0.8ml then you’ve done 6.67mg on top of the 5, making 11.67mg altogether.

I would also think you could ask for advice from your pharmacy, as maybe you should delay you next injection until the medication level is lower.

Did you take the extra with a syringe out of the 2.5mg pen and then the first dose from the 5mg pen?

A single dose in a syringe is 0.6, so 0.8 is nearer 7mg of Mounjaro. So you’ve taken 5mg and then 7mg together, so 12mg. That’s jumping up three doses!

So, does everyone take the left over MJ routinely? How does one do it? Just started 5mg and have some 2.5mg left over.

@Youllnevergetabetterbitofbutteronyourknife I use as prescribed but some people extract the leftover liquid in syringe and use as an extra dose the week after dose 4. Not to double up

@mydaughterisademon it would be helpful if you could confirm what you’ve actually taken. You’ve done 4 weeks on 2.5mg, then this is the 4th week of 5mg is that right? Then you also did 0.8ml of the remaining medication this week, from the 5mg pen, I think? So you’ve got a new 5mg with 4 (or 3??) doses remaining, but you’ve also got a 7.5mg pen coming for next week?

I do this all the time and luckily had no side effects from it! I'm maintaining now so only have jabs every 10 days. you will be fine I would take your next dose a couple of days later than normal if you still feel a little dodgy
