Mounjaro/Wegovy with > 5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 9!

1000 replies

MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:50

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

Feeling smug because I saw that one earlier and managed to hold myself back from posting 😏

Apparently another one who thought the magic injection would just melt away the fat, tra la la la la la.

gimmemounjaro · 12/07/2025 18:14

Oh I got sucked in! Hilarious though, soooo touchy - “I’m not using a medication properly and it’s not working, I’m so disappointed, STOP TELLING ME WHAT TO DO”

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/07/2025 18:19

I have also read and avoided posting on the thread.

re MJ you people on this thread are totally ok with me. Quite brilliant really.

Most of the other WLI threads are quite bonkers & best avoided.

gimmemounjaro · 12/07/2025 18:25

I agree - I feel very lucky to have found this thread! I think the > 10st one is good too, I sometimes have a read of that one and they all seem very nice.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 12/07/2025 18:39

She’s getting really nasty. I’ve reported the thread to MNHQ.

gimmemounjaro · 12/07/2025 18:42

She’s been rumbled and doesn’t like it 😬

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 12/07/2025 19:10

I think what she doesn’t like is that the conversation has moved on and she’s no longer the centre of attention…

My starting month thread is super nice too but it's lovely to have this one to share with people on a similar journey.

taylorswift1989 · 12/07/2025 19:45

I love this thread too! Everyone is so... sane.

Have also been rocking the shorts and vest top look today and trying not to care about the flapping arms. Which reminds me, one time I mentioned to my brother that I wanted a tattoo on my upper arm and he said, "Of what? The bingo numbers?" Twat.

GiveMeWordGames · 12/07/2025 19:58

I want to share one of the weirder effects MJ has had on me. All my life I have bitten my nails. Except for a few months in the run up to my wedding when I had acrylics done to allow the nails to grow. And, since the second month on MJ, I've stopped! I barely realised I had until one day I looked at them and realised they were growing.

I'm finding it very odd having nails. 🤪 I've never had to look after them at all. I'm actually struggling to put necklaces on because I'm not used to them being there -over the years I've perfected my stumpy-fingered technique. 😬 I nearly scratched my eyeball taking my lenses out last night. I've plonked some nail hardener/top coat on them (which I have because I do paint my toenails) and had a go with clippers and an emery board. Basically I'm like a (53 year old) teenager learning from scratch. 😁

Omg I nearly spit my drink out!! Couldn't help laughing but yes, such a twat!

Not MJ related but I all of a sudden stopped biting my nails a few years ago, after 30 odd years of taking them down to bleeding stage and ragged chewed cuticles I just stopped. I have lovely nails now. I do very little to them, just trim and file them when they get too long and don’t mess with them. When they were growing I kept them reasonably short because at first they were quite brittle till they’d fully grown out.

How amazing that you just stopped one day! I didn't think I ever would.

I think that'll be me too, keep it simple. If I painted them I suspect my right hand would look like a toddler did it. Short and neat will be the way to go.

I deployed the hardener because I could tell they were quite brittle, as you say.

InfoSecInTheCity · 12/07/2025 21:24

@GiveMeWordGamesonce they get a bit longer, you can try nail polish wraps (I use classic because I dont really understand the UV ones), they’re fab, you just stick them on then use a nail file across the top to shave off the excess sticker. A coat of clear varnish over the top to protect them and make them last longer, I usually get a week or 2 wear out of them depending on if I’ve been sensible or decided to do a load of gardening without gloves on 😀

Ooh @InfoSecInTheCity thanks, those look great. And absolutely the only way I'm going to get adult looking nails without paying for someone else to do them. 😁

Evenstar · 12/07/2025 22:39

Just wanted to share a good experience today, went to pick my next pen up from the pharmacy and they asked if I would get my blood pressure done, the pharmacies are being asked to do the checks to save time for GP surgeries.

Well, my blood pressure was perfect and he asked me how I was getting on with Mounjaro, when I told him I had lost two stone since October and my last long term blood sugar he was absolutely delighted and said I was doing all the right things and keep going.

A pity he came out in front of the queue and said here’s your Mounjaro, but I think he was excited to chat to someone who was doing well, the pharmacists probably don’t get to chat to us much! It’s good to feel that we have made such a positive step towards better health, but it would be nice for the NHS to catch up with this and give more people that opportunity.

Evening all!

Enjoying the tattoo talk (bingo numbers 😂😂), that’s something I want when I’m at a weight I’m happy with. A woman near me does gorgeous floral, woodlandy ones.

I weighed this morning, exactly the same as 10 days ago 🤨. But I know I wasn’t eating great, it’s hot and I’ve got my period. So I’m giving myself a prod to eat better and hoping next week is a whoosh. Im on my first week of 5mg, haven’t really wanted a full meal but have been picking. Need a new strategy I think.

Im meeting up with old friends I haven’t seen in 10 years next week. Am oddly nervous, we were so close in our teens and 20s! No idea what to wear, but very glad I’m 3st down from where I would have been if we’d met 6 months ago.

Can't really blame the heat as it's "only" 23 degrees so far where I am! 😂

Dealing with the heat is much better this year with the weight loss, but I'm still not a sun lover. When the temperature starts rising in Scotland I always remember this tweet from a few years back. It nailed it! 🤣

Hope the sun lovers enjoys the sunshine 😎, and the rest of us somehow get some cooling relief! 🥵

Welcome to all the thread new comers!

This is so accurate! The heat today was something else.

alltablenochairs · 12/07/2025 23:42

The heat has been something else today. Mega huge thanks to the Avanti train manager who upgraded me to 1st class for free because the aircon wasn't the greatest in the coach I should have been and I was already half boiled to death. It was like sitting in my fridge and heavenly. Would Madam like any complimentary refreshments? Yes please! Would Madam like any ice? Howabout the whole bucket?!?!

Thank you to everyone who wrote kind words about what I said r.e. my past. For many years it was all encompassing. However I've been married 18 years, I've got 2 kids (12 and 15), a nice house in a great place to live in, my youngest is pretty settled now in school, some great friends, a job I genuinely enjoy (I'm SE with no direct colleagues but I am part of a network of people doing similar things), decent NHS hearing aids and most importantly of all my wheelchair which has given me back the freedom and independence that was pretty much non existent. While life isn't always a bed of roses, it's totally different to what it used to be like.

As for people thinking MJ is a fat melting jab (can anyone PM me the link to the post in question) my answer is that if it was I'd be fucking skinderella by now. I've still got a BMI of 34 though so still got a loooooooooooooong way to go.

gimmemounjaro · 12/07/2025 11:40

It’s strange how it comes off - the first three stone I lost took 7 weeks each, then stone no.4 included a plateau and took 9 weeks, and stone no. 5 took 14 weeks. Since then I have lost another 6lbs in 8 weeks, so slower again.

I was expecting things to slow down, that’s all fine, but the weight loss graph hasn’t just flattened a bit, it’s gone very up and down (graph attached, green is me, purple is 1lb per week). It’s quite unnerving! Hard to avoid that sinking feeling of “everything’s going wrong, just like it always does” 😬

I’m

I read an explanation of why this is exactly how weight loss often happens in reality, little peaks and troughs with an overall downward trend. If I can remember what I was reading, I'll post it for you. It's definitely normal .

I've noticed this too! Like you, I have been a lifelong nail-biter but rarely find myself doing it now.
Mounjaro definitely does something to the 'compulsive' pathway, as I also used to be relatively addicted to playing Candy Crush (of all things!), but can now go weeks without playing.

Today is my first mounjanniversary 🥳

SW: 241.2 / 17st 3 / BMI 35.6
CW: 162.2 / 11st 8 / BMI 24.0

This week -3.5lbs after a gain of 2.2 last week 🎢

Total loss = 79lbs / 5st 9 / 33%
I am 2lbs off my original goal and nearly done, aiming for another 12lbs now. But I’m fine like this if that’s how things turn out. Weighing is extremely up and down these days and I’m never sure what’s going on. So consistently eating well is the main thing I’m thinking about, and enjoying living in my new body.

This year has been unbelievable, it’s been amazing to discover what being normal is like for the first time. The next year will be all about fitness I think - I definitely still need goals so I’m contemplating which new sports and activities to try. Maybe triathlon or karate, I do quite fancy martial arts but cannot face getting chucked around in judo at my age 😂
