Mounjaro/Wegovy with > 5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 9!

MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:50

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

So depressing as I can't really afford the jabs as is and I have a long way to go. 27kg down but a similar amount to go til I get to a healthy BMI. I have just ordered 2 pens.

Guess I will have to think of switching to Wegovy. Has anyone on this thread made that switch?

taylorswift1989 · 14/08/2025 19:49

The price rises are so upsetting! I don't think i will be able to afford to continue. I have been scraping the money together. Now it looks like I've wasted a lot of money as I will have to stop.

That's really devastating.

MooBaggage · 14/08/2025 19:49

I can't afford to buy any more until pay day, which is in 2 weeks' time - will have to risk the wait but am gutted... 😓

taylorswift1989 · 14/08/2025 20:06

I don't know whether it's worth buying a couple of pens now when I won't be able to keep going if prices double.

And there's no sign that NHS will be providing MJ to patients either.

What a mess.

WeAllHaveWings · 14/08/2025 20:32

Just off Oushk call. They are working on pricing and will probably put something out early next week. They quoted some possible prices but I couldn't write all down as just too quick - 2.5mg £150-£160, 5mg might have been £170-£180 then I just couldn't keep up (meno brain!) but don't quote me as they said it was all just best guesses just now as with 70 staff members they need to work out all their costs etc so lots of numbers to work out.

They did say 15% maintenance discount would probably need to go and it would need to be a fixed £ of something like £10-£20-ish but nothing definite yet.

They have asked for more 12.5mg and 15mg from Eli Lilly but don't know if they will get as it is still under allocation.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 14/08/2025 20:34

Bugger. This is such frustrating news. I’ve put in an order with Asda tonight for two MJ pens - they offer the option of two pens in one order at different mgs - and I still have four doses in the new pen that arrived last week. That will get me to November.

After that, depending on how prices settle, I’ll have to look at shifting to WeGovy. I’m estimating I’ll need to be on jabs until at least April next year, so a big price hike just isn’t sustainable for me - just like many others.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 14/08/2025 20:38

Simple Online Pharmacy have posted this about switching from MJ to WeGovy: https://www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk/health-advice/weight-loss/wegovy/switching-mounjaro-to-wegovy/

Darlinghag · 14/08/2025 21:05

Its honestly wild.

I’m trying not to panic, and to just hold off on any additional ordering until I get a better idea of exactly how much I can expect my pens to increase by. I just cannot see an agreement to reduce cost not being made - America may have eye watering prices, but isn’t having insurance that helps lower costs the standard? And it isn’t here, so making it so out of reach feels ridiculous. And can our government not intervene? Surely by letting this slide on through, they will be under further pressure of folks trying to obtain it via the NHS?

If it goes up less than 100%, I might be able to swing it, although I will get cannier about ordering larger dosed pens and counting clicks (currently I use 8mg via a 10mg pen, getting 5 doses before golden dose territory). Any more and I will be priced out until I sort some finances out - just had to buy a new car 😭😭

Darlinghag · 14/08/2025 21:09

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder didn’t know you could do that with asda! If they come out with an update on prices I will consider that, maybe bump to 12.5mg and see how long i can stretch it!

My worry about stretching my order out to minimise cost, is that I might get issues when it comes to reorder with 6 weeks apart etc - will they question my dosage? Its a worry!!

Evenstar · 14/08/2025 21:11

I actually think our government must intervene, the NHS just cannot cope with the number of people who need to be on these drugs and the impact on the health of the nation will be huge if people cannot continue their weight loss journeys.

I could continue, but am very conscious that others are not in that position, and I have three significantly overweight adult children who were considering starting Mounjaro at some stage and would definitely not be able to afford it with this increase.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 14/08/2025 21:26

@Darlinghag I only spotted it at my last renewal so don’t know if it’s a new thing? They call them continuation packs, I’ve ordered the 7.5mg and 10mg one. I had a 10% discount code so it was £273 for the two.

Darlinghag · 14/08/2025 21:35

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder Its been a couple of weeks, so maybe v new! And what codes are using? Can you PM me? I have never once had one work!

Darlinghag · 14/08/2025 21:41

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder where are mY manners - please, I mean to say! Apologies got overexcited!!

I do have this option too! And I could choose 12.5mg and 15mg continuation pack.

i might go this route if the hikes are huge!!

although @WeAllHaveWings update about oushk has me relax a little - what prices have they been until now?? Asda was £190 (dropping £30 odd) until a couple months ago!

MooBaggage · 14/08/2025 21:52

I think they rely on people like us finding a way, somehow, to pay for the medication and it's a bloody nightmare, because we probably will, because it works so well.

I'm grrrrrrr..... but won't have any choice because there's no way I'm going back to a world of IBS and plantar fasciitis. I still have somewhere between 3 - 4 stone to lose, but intend to stay on some dosage forever.

My only optimistic thought is to consider how much has changed over the past 12 months in the world of GLP-1s and therefore how many more changes there will be to come - hopefully pill-based medication which will be cheaper and other makes/formulations etc.

On a completely different note and in the spirit of TMI, I've kept meaning to mention that a Squatty Potty, or something similar, (I got a knock off one from Amazon) is brilliant for helping with tricky poos!

I've had one for years and used it even when I had IBS, as it somehow makes it feel better?! But it's even more handy now if I'm a bit constipated - as soon as I assume the position, my body is much more compliant, so might be worth trying one for those who are struggling with constipation 😃

Medicine marketplace have allegedly released what their new pricing will be, seen it in a few places

A bit lower than list prices reported but still massive on higher doses

QueenOfHiraeth · 14/08/2025 23:13

Well that's typical, the one day I'm away from my computer all day, this happens!

My supplier is showing as OOS all strengths but I think from their FB group they have halted orders to stop people panic buying and leaving their regulars short so will resume soon although I only got my most recent one a week or two ago so don't know if I can reorder yet.

QueenOfHiraeth · 14/08/2025 23:29

Dammit! Just had a message from supplier that they are out of 12.5 and 15 and new stock not arriving until 1st Sept so looks like I'm stuck...

WeAllHaveWings · 14/08/2025 23:34

Oushk went out of stock for the higher strength’s quickly too, said there are still under allocation so other providers might be similar.

gimmemounjaro · 14/08/2025 23:38

I was lucky, had a reminder in my diary to order my next pen tomorrow but did it yesterday for some reason and it was shipped today. I have a little stockpile just from getting in the habit of ordering pens when I got the first reminder and will be using every last drop from now on, to make them last.

It’s such disappointing news, there is no way I could have afforded the higher doses at the new prices. I’m just gutted for those who are worried tonight.

QueenOfHiraeth · 15/08/2025 00:46

@gimmemounjaro I have one in hand but have resisted the temptation to stockpile as I had a scary moment when our old fridge died. I have tried to order one pen from another supplier as my provider will not have any until after Sept 1st but not sure if it will be approved yet.

MooBaggage · 15/08/2025 07:46

I woke up this morning and decided to buy one pen and put it on my overdraft, as I've only got 2 weeks left and everywhere is out of stock 😪

I'm trying not to be pissed off with everyone that stockpiled yesterday, because I probably would have tried to buy a few myself if I'd had the means.

I'm also trying not to let all this send me downwards and kick against the whole using MJ thing, because that would be stupid - but my self destruct button has always been easily pressed and this would normally do it!

So, trying to keep calm and hope that in the next 2 weeks, things calm down and stocks are available, even if at the higher price. Am so gutted about the whole thing, to be honest - it's really knocked me.

OP posts:
akaFrosty · 15/08/2025 07:56

@MooBaggage I've done the same. Ordered my next pen last night, just in case the suppliers run out due to people stockpiling. That will give me 8 weeks supply (inc golden doses). Hopefully things will be calmer and clearer by then.

I scared myself reading some of the stuff online last night, I ended up in a tizz panicking. Fingers crossed the prices don't go up too much.

gimmemounjaro · 15/08/2025 08:15

Yes we don’t really know the impact of this at the moment, so it’s not time to worry yet. It’s worrying though! One thing’s for sure, the black market MJ trade is going to go through the roof.
