Mounjaro/Wegovy with > 5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 9!

1000 replies

MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:50

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

Week four of 5mg, I’ve been absolutely fine but side effects were a pain last night! Had weird pains around my middle all evening, enough that I read the gallstones discussion on here and wondered about calling the GP today. No, turns out it was gas, I’ve spent all night getting pains, then major sulphur belches that relieve it (it’s a good thing I currently have oblivious toddler next to me instead of DH!). Felt really nauseous, then a bit of diarrhoea. I haven’t eaten brilliantly the last couple of days, though nothing awful. I’m hoping mindful eating and lots of water sorts it! I’m due to go up to 7mg, trying not to freak out at possible side effects increase.

MooBaggage · 30/07/2025 06:32

@akaFrosty I hope you're OK and the pain has settled down?

Like others, I had gallstone about 12 years ago and had my gallbladder out within a few months after my first attack.

It was the worst pain I've ever experienced and the first time it happened I thought it was a heart attack - I ended up in A&E via ambulance 🙄. The 2nd time I at least knew what it was but still ended up in A&E for pain relief. Thankfully as soon as the gallbladder was out I was absolutely fine.

Definitely see a doctor if your pain is ongoing - hopefully it's gone by now 🙏

Another one with gallstones. I had two attacks 10+years ago, pain was terrible. I had an ultrasound and was told I have a single 12mm gallstone. They said to monitor any symptoms and see how I get on. I have only had very rarely, slight niggles since then, the last one was a day or two before I started MJ. Since then nothing. So he can stay as long as he remains silent.
The signs that he wasnt happy was a weird kind of tenderness on my right side at waist level that radiated around and lots of gurgling sounds.

I would definitely recommend an ultrasound and see what they say. If you get a full on attack you will know about it. No other pain comes close and that can end up being an emergency as others have said.

They say that most women, middle aged, overweight, who have had children, will have gallstones, its just most of them remain silent so they never know. Its when they start to lose weight, usually too quickly, not enough fats etc in their diets that the gallstones let themselves be known.
When my mum was younger she was told by a doctor that it was the three Fs, fat, forty and fair, meant you were likely to have them!🙄

akaFrosty · 30/07/2025 09:43

Good morning.
Thanks again all. I feel great this morning, no pain so I've got my fingers crossed that it was something else bothering me yesterday. Will keep an eye on it. If it happens again, I'll be on the phone.
At least I've learned what they are, and what to look out for. I definitely qualify with the 3 Fs, and have 3 dc, so I'm a great candidate for GS.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 30/07/2025 09:46

I had pain on my right side just under my ribs, which radiated through to my back. It wasn't remotely bad enough to be an acute gallstone attack, but I was worried as I was starting Mounjaro. GP and an online GP consult both thought gallstones. I got an ultrasound privately: £220 so about the cost of 1.5 months on MJ. The consultant who did the scan said he was expecting to find gallstones (4Fs: fat, female, over 40 and fair) but it was completely clear.

Apart from a few days of similar pain a few months later, it calmed down. It was suggested to me that it could be intercostal neuralgia causing the pain, so musculoskeletal.

Emas82 · 30/07/2025 10:05

Wk6 D1 and I've lost 11lbs overall. Still getting suppression and no food noise and no side effects so I'm staying on 2.5mg.
Would like it to go a bit quicker, but I know it's a good rate of loss, and it's been easy so far.
It's my daughter's birthday today and she's requested a Turkish takeaway as the birthday meal. Fingers crossed I can get through it unscathed!

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 30/07/2025 11:05

A post has appeared on the board about accessing MJ with a low BMI for ‘aesthetic weight loss’. I’ve reported it and MNHQ said they would have a look but it hasn’t gone yet and I’m quite concerned that they are going to let it stand. We’ve discussed before that the rest of this board beyond this lovely thread is the Wild West but if, like me, you don’t want it to be a place where it’s acceptable to swap tips on how to access MJ fraudulently please consider reporting it too. Thank you ❤️

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/07/2025 11:22

@Emas82 great work. I think Turkish takeaways are pretty good. I'd have lamb shish kebab & Turkish salad. Delicious.

@InfoSecInTheCity umm that is a scary huge gallstone. The gallstone is massive & you are tiny. Bravo!

Just popped to the doc surgery (repeat prescription they refuse to add to NHS ap 🙄) & I weighed myself. 87 kilos on the nose. Total of 37 kilos lost.
Looking forward to hitting 40 kilos - 3 more to go!

I talk a lot about my head stuff here. I'm reading a wonderful book called The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer (he's the founder of WebMD) - its goes hand in hand with yoga practice & is probably a bit woo for many - but I am finding it so useful. He talks about releasing past stored emotions & blockages, as well as being more present and active in the here & now - its hard to explain. But it feels like this could be a healthy practice of releasing the past, being more present etc. I am mentioning this here, as for me I do feel like being lifelong obese has been very much a distorted emotional protection mechanism that has gone totally awray. Emotional disfunction growing up has become internalised and part of the clinging onto these past hurts/emotions is connected with obesity & overeating. Addressing this process is interesting to me in my life right now, and I think will be a really important part of making meaningful changes.

Essentially "The Untethered Soul" is about that inner dialogue we all live with, how to make peace with it, how to harness it as a force for joy in your life instead of a voice of constant critisim & discontent. It's a handbook designed to "free yourself from habitual thoughts and emotions" and learn more helpful patterns of behaviour. I'm going all in - my DD's are away for 2 weeks now & I'm using the time to deep dive into this book and yoga practice.

There's someone on the July thread who basically said they lied about their weight or height or something, then goes on preaching to everyone about how they are the expect on protein and weight training 👀 so annoying!

gimmemounjaro · 30/07/2025 12:05

Thank you @RobinEllacotStrike that book sounds like just the thing for me right now and over the next few months which I think will be turbulent. I have ordered it.

GiveMeWordGames · 30/07/2025 12:39

@Emas82 well done on your loss so far and I agree with @RobinEllacotStrike that you're in luck with Turkish food. Grilled meat and lovely dips. And picky food is where I find it's easy to eat less without it being obvious. I'm meeting up with friends for a meal and the theatre tomorrow. I was hoping the hive mind would pick Comptoir Libanais but, no, it's a pizza place. The menu is one with calories and, other than really not wanting to load myself with dough and melted cheese before sitting in the theatre for 2.5 hours, the figures genuinely made my eyes pop. Chicken salad for me!

This is a group of friends who I haven't seen since before Christmas, so it'll be interesting. 😁

Emas82 · 30/07/2025 19:09

The update nobody needed! Just eaten our lovely Turkish takeaway, I cheated the system and got a kids chicken shish with bulgar. It was amazing! I'm so full, ate too much and a lot more carbs than I'm used to these days. Fingers crossed my stomach doesn't react too badly!

Kids meal is a great idea! Turkish is great, and one of the easier takeouts to make healthy choices on.

Someone mentioned probiotics/ digestive enzymes a while ago and I cannot seem to force my search function to find it! Would appreciate any recommendations.

Top culinary tip from me:

If you make a chocolate protein shake and put it in the freezer for a few minutes to make it nice and cold but then instantly forget you put it there and remember 4 hours later, it makes pretty good pretend chocolate ice cream..! 🙄😀

Takes longer to eat as well, so all good!

When my mum was younger she was told by a doctor that it was the three Fs, fat, forty and fair, meant you were likely to have them!

I was told that as my GP sent me off for an ultrasound to confirm. I only had one gallstone which was the size of a giant malteaser. 😂 Luckily it got whipped out with keyhole surgery.

There was an article with Wes Streeting commenting about inappropriate prescribing so I think there will be a further tightening up of regulations.

The boards are a lot better now all of the code sharing malarkey has it own area.

If it is still up I will report.

@InfoSecInTheCity Bonkers! And there's me just being absent-minded..!

Think I'm going to always put half my smoothie in a small glass and stick it in the freezer now - I'm often too full when I've drunk a big glass, so might as well freeze half and have it in the evening as a treat - am really pleased with my accidental discovery 😄

A friend of mine is absolutely evangelical about their Ninja Creami but I don’t think I can justify either the expense or the cupboard space!

I would quite like a kitchen sponsored by Ninja… we have an air fryer a soup maker and coffee machine so perhaps best to stop there! I really fancied the slushie maker, but from what I’ve read drinks have to have a fairly high percentage of sugar to work, which wouldn’t work for us.

alltablenochairs · 31/07/2025 09:14

99.8kg!!!!! For the first time in at least 12 years, possibly as much as 15 years I am now in single figures. My next target is 94kg which is the weight I was when I had my booking in appointment with my now 15 year old.

For the first time ever this seems like its something thats attainable. If you would have asked me a year ago would I have lost 33kg in a year my answer would have been a hard no. The flip side of this though is that a weight of 94kg gives me a BMI of 31.8 so still got more to do

RobinEllacotStrike · 31/07/2025 10:23

Woo Hoo @alltablenochairs - thats a really amazing mini goal. Great work!

@OnwardsDownwards I've used Nutrigold for probiotics & other supplements for years. They are theraputic quality used a lot by practioners & have a few different options:

These are the best digestive enzymes according to a friend who has researched it in great detail, @OnwardsDownwards. I take them and haven't had any upper GI issues on Mounjaro. May not be linked of course.

NSV - my 14yo daughter sorted through some clothes last week and gave me some bits for the charity shop including a pair of pale grey slim fit jogging bottoms. On a whim I tried them on, and they fit me really well.

This is incredible to me. As someone who has always been the fattest person in any room (even when I wasnt I felt like I was, but mostly I was) I never thought that I would ever be able to share clothes with my normal sized teenage daughters.

We are now entering the "household shared clothing" era. I trust it goes a lot better than the "household shared makeup/cleanser/Mum Can't have anything for herself" era. They do have some lovely jeans I wouldnt mind borrowing.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/07/2025 12:32

@RobinEllacotStrike I saw a Stranger Things tshirt in Asda that I really liked the other day but it was in the kids dept. On a whim I bought it in the biggest size they had and it only bloody fit. So I can now wear teenager clothes too, it’s weird and wonderful.
