MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:50

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

Thanks for the kind words so weighed in today and lost everything I had gained and aired my grievances at my group. So fresh start!

Thank you so much for reposting that @VelociraptorsVelociRapping; I missed your original post. Fabulous advice and will look into getting checked out. Thank you 🥰

@gimmemounjaro as someone who's had POTS (postural orthostatic hypotension syndrome. When I stand up or move suddenly my blood pressure hits the floor) for a few years now, low blood pressure pre MJ and MJ lowering it even further (I did my blood pressure for fun last night and dh asked if I was dead!) I find thr following helpful. Apologies if some arent that relevant to you though, just thought I'd go through my whole list.

  1. more fluids. I've had some success with rehydration drinks before but I dont especially like them
  2. More salt. More to the point walkers ready salted crisps- slightly unhelpful on MJ though. Black olives are also surprisingly effective for me.
  1. Sitting with legs extended aka 'long sitting'. This stops blood pooling in your lower extremities.
  2. Compression socks- however these need to be professionally sorted to be most effective
  3. Head support in your chairs. This doesn't raise my blood pressure as such but what it does do is stop my POTS from activating.
  4. Ask your pharmacist to look at any medications you take and if they are interacting with others.
gimmemounjaro · 29/07/2025 03:06

Thank you @alltablenochairs that is very kind of you, some new things to try there. Especially olives, which I love 🙂
Have had a horrible stressful day today and now can’t sleep so my bp is actually normal for once!

eleanorwish · 29/07/2025 08:24

just got back from a festival over the weekend and I’ve put on 2lbs since Friday! I also delayed by jab from Friday evening to last night. I didn’t feel like I ate too much, as I still got full pretty quick, but I did drink a lot more alcohol than normal. I’m hoping once I get back into eating healthily again it will soon drop off again.

Just go a bit heavy on water for a couple of days, it will be retention from dehydration due to alcohol and probably a more salty diet. You didn’t eat 7000 excess calories over the weekend so it won’t be 2lb fat.

MooBaggage · 29/07/2025 11:00

NSV!

Today is my logging on my chart day (I log my weight and measurements twice a month!) and whilst I won't talk about the fact that a random gain of 2lbs isn't going away yet, my NSV is that none of my body measurements now start with a 5 😬

I seem to be reducing in size by 1 inch a month across bust/waist/hips - with a consistent 6" difference between them - so am now 49/43/49. I only started doing measurements at the end of April, when I was 53/47/53 - really wish I'd done it from the start, as I know I was tons bigger back in January.

So, am pleased with my 4s and can't believe my waist might one day (in a few months?!) see its number starting with a 3 😵

Some fab losses, well done folks!

Exciting times in chez hag, Longley farm cottage cheese is now available at the shop down the end of the street! Its only the small pots, but I bought 6 to ensure they knew it was worth keeping in haha!

I’ve developed a new side effect after about 8 months on the same dose - gag reflex changes!! First couple of days post jab has been bleurgh. Not especially nauseous or sicky, just certain textures gagging me!! Uch!!

eleanorwish · 29/07/2025 13:25

Thank you, @InfoSecInTheCity, I thought that might be the case. The festival came after 2 weeks of eating crap (but still within my calories), during a couple of visits to family. So I don’t think I’ve done too badly overall. Just had a chicken salad for lunch!

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 29/07/2025 13:37

Thanks so much for all the kind and helpful comments about me stalling again. Today I've gone up 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't really think it's fat, but it's just so disillusioning.

I lost 3 stone in a shorter timeframe post-menopause by low-carbing, so I was hoping for a bit more progress with Mounjaro.

If I'd had other positive outcomes I'd be happier, but after the first few weeks I no longer have the neutrality to junk food I started with. That was such an amazing feeling while it lasted. Less joint pain, aversion to alcohol, and of those perks would be so welcome.

akaFrosty · 29/07/2025 18:10

Hello lovely losers. I haven't been on the thread for a while. Life is hectic as usual, but all going well with weight loss. Down 33lbs since March.

Can I ask your advice please? Im slightly panicking rn.
I've had a pain just under my ribs (right side) this afternoon. Not unbearable, but enough and very sore to touch a particular point. Doctor Google is pointing me towards gallstones. Any advice please? Do I need to get medical help or should I wait a while? I have never suffered gallstones before but obviously lots of attempts to diet going back years.

InfoSecInTheCity · 29/07/2025 18:22

@akaFrosty I developed gallstones about 5 yrs ago following normal weight loss (low calorie no Mounjaro). It’s unfortunate but weight loss (and weight gain) and being a female who has had a child are all things that increase risk.

my experience was bra band level pain, right hand side but in my back not front, it would hit mainly at night time. Be persistent enough and painful enough that I couldn’t find a comfortable position or go to sleep, then a few hrs later it would let up and I’d be OK. It stayed like that, hitting ever couple of months for a few hours for a year or so, then one night it was way more painful and I started projectile vomiting. Ended up in A&E, it was infected so I was admitted, IV antibiotics did nothing, Oramorph was wonderful, so on the 3rd day they whipped me in to surgery and took it out. Stayed in another couple of days then discharged and no problems at all since then.

if the pain is bearable and you have none of the danger signs (vomiting, fever, yellow skin/ eyes/nails) then it would be worth getting a GP appt so they can start you on the path to a referral for an ultrasound and confirmation of gallstones. If you do have danger signs then call 111 and get medical advice.

QueenOfHiraeth · 29/07/2025 18:41

@akaFrosty My gallstones were over 20 years ago so I can't remember my weight/dieting at the time but I do remember my pain came on suddenly and was severe enough that I knew it was something out of the ordinary. I thought I was having a heart attack and was just about to go to A&E when I was suddenly and violently sick and the pain stopped. Had a second but less severe attack a couple of weeks later and (TMI alert) following that my wee went very dark and my poo went pale. According to GP that is a definitive sign that bile is not going through and my gallbladder was removed (privately) pretty quickly afterwards.
Hope you are ok

dimples76 · 29/07/2025 19:05

It was my DD's 6th birthday yesterday and we went to Diggerland. Had a lovely day but then my Mum shared a pic with me. It was sitting down on a ride and I just looked enormous. I had been feeling much better about my appearance. I don't know why it was such a shock as despite having lost 26kg I am still morbidly obese. I think it is because I don't see my image sitting down very often. I also overindulged yesterday (although admittedly not as much as old me would have) and am suffering today with acid reflux and lethargy.

akaFrosty · 29/07/2025 19:12

@InfoSecInTheCity and @QueenOfHiraeth

Thank you both for your thoughtful advice. That's really comforting. I have no other symptoms, and it's not that painful. Just annoying, but I'm hyper alert because I'm taking MJ. My DH isn't helping with his panicking, ggrrr.
I think I'll rest up tonight and see how I go. If it's still sore in the morning, I'll phone my GP or 111 for advice. Thanks again. Thank goodness for this thread Flowers

NewbieMJ · 29/07/2025 21:04

@akaFrosty I was diagnosed with gallstones 10+ years ago (unexpectedly picked up on an ultrasound). It looked like a grab bag of maltesers and I was so shocked! I have looked after my gallbladder since and only have very occasional (tiny) niggles (and only when I eat sugar/refined carbs which I try to avoid). I follow a keto way of eating, so high fat is a big feature, and optimum gallbladder health is essential for me. I've never had a follow up scan, so no idea what it looks like now.

I would recommend a supplement which is miraculous. happy to message it to you.

This of course comes with the caveat, as others have advised, if pain gets intense or you are worried in any way, seek medical advice. I know @alltablenochairs had a nasty experience which she has written about here, so not undermining the seriousness of gallbladder issues.

My husband has had gallbladder issues in the past, and is now symptom free (I have finally got him on a low carb diet). He had a polyp which they keep an eye on, (annual scan) but it was not there on his last scan.

I attribute my gallstones to low fat diets that I endured for years. Huge regrets about that now. The gallbladder functions optimally when we eat fat in our diet.

Hope you get on OK and don't get any more symptoms.

InfoSecInTheCity · 29/07/2025 21:24

just because I have the pic and we’re on the topic, here is a photo of the bastard stone that blocked my bile duct completely. No wonder the poor little organ ended up giving up the ghost.

And some progress pics. I really thought if I ever got to a BMI of 22 I’d be super skinny and skeletal but that was not accurate 😂

@akaFrosty you'll know when its a gallstones attack. The pain is indescribable and completely stops you. Even breathing hurts. I'm genuinely not joking when I say that I would rather give birth than go through it. The only thing that stopped it for me was generous doses of some very hard-core painkillers (I'm allergic to all NSAID's). As in oxycodone and friends. However if it doesn't feel right to you then you absolutely must get it checked out. Even if that means going via A&E.

TW: mention of 'not living'. Skip this bit if its a sensitive subject.......

@NervyWegovy youre right there and then some. In my case the gallstones I didn't know I had tried damned hard to unalive me. I went from gallstones attack to critically ill with sepsis very, very fast. The scariest bit was that I was too unwell at this point to recognise I was unwell. A friend recognised the symptoms of sepsis and called an ambulance for me. Once I was firmly this side of the light I had emergency (open) surgery. I'm told the surgeons stopped counting after about 100 gallstones. Became delirious after surgery which was......... interesting (amongst other things I sent my mother an obscene poem about Alice the camel!!) I do have some long term issues but nothing major in the grand scheme of things. It was my experiences that led to me starting MJ. I had a BMI of 45 when I started last October.

I've also attached a photo of what to look out for sepsis wise. Someone recognising this saved my life.

alltablenochairs · 29/07/2025 21:35

Ok, that's all really interesting, thank you. I would love any recommendations you have for supplements etc. I need to do some reading and learn. It's amazing that you've managed such an improvement without having your GB removed. I thought the only option was removal.

I don't starve and have lost weight quite slowly this time. I eat a high protein, low carb diet due to MJ. I could definitely lower the carbs even further if I need to, but I eat some good carbs for fibre. No white bread, pasta, rice etc. I dont have a sweet tooth so it's easy to avoid sugar. I think I eat a decent amount of good fats. I eat nuts most days, avocado regularly, olive oil, but I will watch that more closely for possible improvements. My generation are hard wired to eat low fat foods (thanks Mum, thanks WW/SW). It's so normalised.

Without wanting to be a doom monger thought I'd share a funny NSV incase some more lighthearted posts are needed.

DS ended up lap riding today. As he's 12 and loooooooooooooong he's probably a bit big for it but yolo. He's also super skinny as well despite eating like a horse (he has adhd and never stops). Today he told me that the ride wasn't as cushioned as it used to be and his bum bones were getting sore (he also has a learning disability so functions at a younger age than his chronological age) He made me take off my cardigan and use that as a cushion. Hmmmmm

You look fabulous 👌

That's so lovely. You're no longer squishy enough to be comfy. Thanks also for your thoughts and experience with gallstones, really helpful. What an awful experience you had with them Flowers

QueenOfHiraeth · 29/07/2025 23:13

@InfoSecInTheCity I didn't realise gallstones could even get that big!
I don't have mine but the surgeon told me that, on removal, my gallbladder was inflamed and enlarged so needed a larger "keyhole" and a lot of pulling and tugging to get it out. He said he was surprised there were no large stones but he said it was just full of gravel

MooBaggage · 30/07/2025 06:27

@dimples76 yep I hear you - I've also lost about that much and am still obese and whilst I know I'm doing really well and do look smaller, I look still terrible in photos... I want to be OK with how I look - but definitely not there yet...

We just need to keep going and think about this time next year - summer 2026 is going to be soooo different in terms of photos! 💪
