New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

@InfoSecInTheCity I have no excuse! I have retired, kids all left home and DH is fairly low maintenance (in fact I probably burn more calories in fuming and planning to kill him for very minor infractions than in actually doing things for him Grin).

I do have a busy life with friends, family, etc but I know I have the time, I just don't motivate myself and then fritter the time instead. I even put my hand weights in the kitchen and planned to do some with every cup of tea but do I? No I don't, I have an excuse ready for every opportunity...

I’m inbetween a 2 year old and cheese.

Actually, just weighed myself and I’m halfway between cheese and a cinder block. 31lbs down since the beginning of April.

SW 260lbs
CW 229lbs (after yet another stall).

I jab on a Thursday evening and weigh on a Monday or Tuesday morning as that seems to be when I’m lowest. I think because I’m able to drink adequate amounts of fluid at the weekend as I struggle with that, massively, at work.

On exercise, this involves throwing money at it, so I appreciate not possible for everyone.

I go to a gym which is purely small group private training. I book sessions, there’s a maximum of 6 people there, the PT sets us all up in a zone with different strength exercises, which we are coached through together, then some core work, then HIIT cardio. It works fantastically for me, I have to motivate myself to get out of the front door, but then there’s no thinking - I don’t need to remember exercises, time myself, work out weights, etc etc.

I’ve been 3 times a week religiously since January. It’s a lot of money (around £300/month), but compared to the money I’ve thrown away on unused gym memberships over the years, it’s great value, and less than half the cost of 1:1 PT round here. My husband goes to the gym 3 x a week too, so we have had to work hard to prioritise it as we have kids.

Just thought I’d share this as it’s not a format I had considered before but it has genuinely been life changing. I started MJ about halfway through and I think being physically healthier has made a big difference, as I’ve had virtually no side effects, compared to when I tried it 18m ago and was so ill I had to stop it.

MooBaggage · 28/07/2025 09:03

@OnwardsDownwards that sounds really good and I think the combo of MJ + exercise/generally looking after yourself is the way to go - definitely has been for me, although my exercise regime at the moment is still limited to handweights and squats whilst coffee making!

I think I'll always be allergic to gyms - I joined one years ago (on one of my many attempts to get healthy) and just felt 'not good enough' every time I went - and it was a nice gym, no-one was making me feel like that - just me! But maybe this will change as I get smaller.

I neeeeeeed to get back to going swimming - I absolutely loved going, but haven't been since January and I have no idea why, other than my stupid desire to self sabotage 🙄

@InfoSecInTheCity oooh we love a good post-holiday gain loss 😀

My scales are still showing 2lbs up, which is bonkers but I think just water retention, so am still not stressing!

Meanwhile, I'm still pondering walking pads and whether they're worth it and I'll be arsed to get it out each evening and use it when I'm binge watching Chicago Med 🙄

@OnwardsDownwards I have a friend who started small group weight training a couple of years and she is evangelical about it. And you can absolutely see the difference it's made to her physically. I like to think one day I will get back to joining a gym but I'm not there yet.

On that topic, however, inspired by Irish Setters and elephant penises I got out my weights and added them up and I have lost almost exactly what they weigh in total. There's 2 x 5kg, 2 x 3kg and 2 x 1.5 kg and no way could I pick them all up together!

GiveMeWordGames · 28/07/2025 09:50

@MooBaggage weighing daily really makes me see how much things are fluctuating across the week.

It's jab day today, and at 18 weeks I'm now 14st 5.75 which is 1.75lbs off a 3 stone loss. Looking at the last week, this is how it has gone:

21/07 - 14st 8
22/07 - 14st 6.75
23/07 - "
24/07 - 14st 6
25/07 - 14st 4.75 (??!!)
26/07 - 14st 6
27/07 - 14st 6.25
28/07 - 14st 5.75

It's wild, but in the end I've lost right on my average of just over 2lb I suppose.

MabelSpan · 28/07/2025 10:07

Hi everyone!

Weigh and jab day for me.

SW - 20st 3lbs (Aug 14th 24)
CW - 14st 6.2lbs (July 28th 25)
WL - 2.2lbs
BMI - 29.6
Ave wkly loss - 1.6lbs

Very happy with my loss this week, a lovely surprise.
I have decided to drop my dose to 4.66mg, from 4.83mg, not for any particular reason, more curiousity just to see if it affects how I feel, food noise and hunger etc.

I now have 2st 13.8lbs to what I think is my goal of 11st 7lbs. Seems crazy to only have to lose under 3st!

So keep going everyone, through the stalls, the gains and the bad days because if you just keep on keeping on despite everything you will get to where you want to be.
You can do it, you will do it, we can all do it!😊

Have a fab week!😃

Sw 19.3

Have around 9 lbs to go !!!!!

Shocking

I am 5ft 11 so I think 9 lbs more for me is ideal

I have lugged 6 stone around wit me for 7 years after daily binge eating since leaving an abuser

I hope I can maintain and will try my absolute best

MooBaggage · 28/07/2025 13:21

Amazing losses being reported here 😍

I have come for a blood test and have squeeeeeeeezed myself into my Yours size 18 jeans that were too small a couple of weeks ago. They are definitely still too small, but my impatience got the better of me, so I'm sat hoping the zip doesn't fly open 🙄

And I've been v brave and phoned the hospital this morning to request a spinal for my hysteroscopy/polyp removal - all sorted - they're going to list me, so I feel much better about that now!

Amazing to see the weight like that!

I am annoyingly evangelical about it 😂. Looking back I made a typo, it’s £200/month not 300!

I think any exercise is really helpful. One of my friends does a squat every time her kids say mummy! I’d be on the floor by lunchtime… but building muscle is so helpful to prepare ourselves for getting older!

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 28/07/2025 13:56

week 10 weigh in and I’m tantalisingly close to 2stone but just not quite there yet. Sure I will be by next week.

I’m doing well to make sure I do 10,000 steps a day and calories burnt (according to my Oura smart ring) are fine but not doing enough strength retraining. Probably should work on that a bit more. I’m a bit haphazard with my dumbbells.

GiveMeWordGames · 28/07/2025 14:09

Oh, good stuff @MooBaggage . Both the jeans and the spinal!

@OnwardsDownwards, absolutely. Osteoporosis is a huge concern for me. I try and do the weights every other day at a minimum and have slowly increased both reps and weights. I find it easier to stick to at the moment than the faff of going to a class or the gym but longer term I'd like to get back to the gym. I used to enjoy it (back in the last century😅).

Well done @lifetheuniverseandeverything42 It's tantalising when a mini goal is so close. I'm teetering on the edge of three: 3 stone, onederland and moving BMI from obese into overweight.

@hellohellooo incredible achievement, wow. Fantastic.

So great to read this because I booked (and paid for) group personal training on a whim last Friday. After making an enquiry the PT called me 5 minutes later so I didn't have time to talk myself out of it. I have an introductory session on Thursday and then I've booked 7am Mon, Weds, Fri for the next two weeks. I'm not a morning person so I'm definitely going to have to drag myself out of the house but it's what works best for my schedule.

Had a panic this weekend when I realised I have no suitable clothes, sports bra or trainers so had to dash around this weekend to find something. I think I'm sorted now so I have no more excuses.

I'm crossing my fingers that I don't keel over at any point during the sessions 🥵🤞

Well done on your weight loss and I'm pleased to hear you managed to get out of an abusive relationship.

Your post really resonated with me because I also became a binge eater while with my coercive controlling ex. It took me years and some therapy to get past it, but everytime I look in the mirror I see the emotional pain staring back at me in the form of obesity. But that's all changing now and I'm taking control of my life.

hellohellooo · 28/07/2025 15:17

@AlicesMum2025 very best of luck

You can do it

Take it slowly and go easy on yourself !!!!!

I am so much happier now and I'm saving loads as I'm not binge eating day in day out !!!!

QueenOfHiraeth · 28/07/2025 15:45

@OnwardsDownwards I also have a friend who does the small group training thing but, unfortunately, the gym near us that does it is very serious about it and insists on those belt monitor thingies, keeps leaderboards on people's stats and won't let you join the groups until you have done 1:1 training with them and reached a certain fitness. Another friend, who I know is fitter than me, was declined so I'm not giving them the chance to reject me!
There is a new place opening that is one of those that does training wearing an electrical muscle stimulator but it sounds expensive and scary.
There is also a planning request in for a gym that is just equipped premises then personal trainers work from there but who knows how long the council could take before deciding...
I used to have a personal trainer who would work from her house or come to mine but she gave up and I haven't managed to find anyone suitable since

Yet again today I have talked myself out of walking by finding other things to do and am now running out of time...

I’m 125lb lighter than the highest weight I have on record, 72lbs of that has been lost on Mounjaro since Sept 2024. So in total I’ve lost a 2month old horse carrying a 2 yr old human, and since September I’ve lost an Irish setter and 2 guinea pigs.

How very careless of you 😉

RobinEllacotStrike · 28/07/2025 16:43

"Yet again today I have talked myself out of walking by finding other things to do and am now running out of time..."

Its so easy to do @QueenOfHiraeth - the day runs away & it can seem like overwhelming effort - easy to put off.

Would it help to put the exercise/walk time down as appointments in your diary?

I've never been a morning person but going to yoga early in the mornings is strangely really working for me. I'm a fabulous procrastinator, so I make it not negotiable. I don't have "shall I shan't I?" conversations with myself. Its more "Its morning, I'm up & off to yoga" - I guess in a way I out pace my procrastinating disruptive brain before it can get involved.

The same part of my brain that says "a piece of cake won't hurt" also says "have a day off/lie in/do it later/don't keep your committement" so I do wonder in that respect if MJ has been helping me stick to my exercise plans?

alltablenochairs · 28/07/2025 16:56

Yeeeeeeesh I go away for a few days and come back to absolutely zillions of messages. We were at a glamping site in the middle of nowhere with not much WiFi and besides didn't really want to pick up my phone that much. More impressively I didn't actually put on anything which was surprising as there was a lot of food I wouldn't usually eat. Halloumi roll for breakfast- why not! However one thing both dh and I noticed was that my appetite is next to non existent now. As in a child's portion of chips and even then dh would finish them off for me.

Confession time- I dont do gyms. Infact I have an absolute hatred of them. Stems from school when we were forced made to use them as part of PE lessons. (my school also rented out its facilities after school hours so it was a bit more than your average school gym). Our exercise regimes were tailored to us (apparently) and written on whiteboards for all to see, along with smart comments about failing to meet our targets and 'must work harder' e.t.c. If anyone's familiar with the PE teacher scene in the film Kes then that's very much what one of my teachers was like. I fucking hated school PE for many, many reasons. Like all exercise regimes though its about finding what works for you and finding something you enjoy- please dont let my experiences put anyone off.

May I sound a note of caution on increasing resistance and strength training unless you are sure that you have a strong pelvic floor? I started a thread about this in June (https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5359167-words-of-warning-strength-training-and-pelvic-floor) TL:DR - if you already have any symptoms of weak pelvic floor (eg stress incontinence or bladder weakness when you sneeze, jump or run) or if you have no symptoms but have any of the other main risk factors in addition to having been obese for several years (multiple pregnancies, heavy babies, instrumental vaginal delivery or birth injuries, menopause) then please consider getting a pelvic health check and some specialist advice before continuing with a new exercise regime.

I unwittingly hastened a pelvic organ prolapse along with too much heavy strength training and Pilates with a weak pelvic floor. I've been working with a specialist physio and it has made a huge difference.

Ooh, that would not appeal to me at all! The one I go to is very much about individual goals. Everyone is at different stages and ages, no public stats.

Back on track for me today after yesterday’s birthday party. Need to get back in the water habit though, I’m not drinking as much as I should. I think I need to fill bottles the night before so they’re waiting in the fridge.

GiveMeWordGames · 28/07/2025 19:30

Thanks for the note of caution, @VelociraptorsVelociRapping and sorry to hear you've had issues!

I was talking to DH about my loss total and the weights and he pointed out I could actually lift it, only because it's around what my suitcase weighs going on holiday. Which only blew my mind even more. A whole full suitcase!

I ordered a load of tops and a stretchy dress from Roman, all in a size 18. They just arrived and while a couple of things need a bit more room to feel like they hang they way I like (I've never wanted things tight fitting and super-clingy), it all basically fits and everything looks so nice. It made me absurdly happy. At the beginning of the year I was ordering tops in 22-24. I've lost so much more off my top half than bottom (where I've basically gone from 20 to 18). It feels weird because I've been top heavy all my life due to boobs and broad shoulders.
