Mounjaro/Wegovy with > 5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 9!

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

Oh and my scales are saying today that I'm 3lbs heavier than I was yesterday 😮

Now I did got for a family meal at Hickory's yesterday - but had the sodding salad and 1/2 a pudding and that was it all day..!

But I haven't had as much water over the past few days due to various reasons and I feel a bit cold-y, so am hoping that more water will do the trick - am totally ignoring the 'gain' - not even going to put it on the chart 😀

I am up this morning too @MooBaggage

Currently struggling with low blood pressure and decided to try and cure myself by eating salt. In the form of crisps and peanuts. Woke up at 3am with raging reflux which wasn’t fun. And the crisps weren’t even that salty when I checked the label! What a berk.

if anyone has tips for raising blood pressure that don’t involve a mini binge please do share 😅

I have always been at the low end, have to take care getting out of bed etc and I guess over the last year I have made some changes that could lower it further, losing weight, cleaning up diet, more exercise, giving up smoking. And now it’s getting quite annoying and unpleasant.

MooBaggage · 27/07/2025 12:21

@gimmemounjaro that's really interesting because I've always been at the low end, blood pressure wise too - but I hadn't thought about MJ/losing weight affecting it!

Mine is usually around 100/70, but when I felt faint after my hysteroscopy, they took it and it was 90/56 🙄

So I'm not sure what the answer is - need to do some googling..!

Evenstar · 27/07/2025 12:22

Is anyone finding their hot flushes have come back? I have really noticed those and night sweats the last few days and actually more than when I was going through the menopause.

Bizarrely it seems a lot of people on Mounjaro have seen an improvement. I can’t have HRT so hope this is temporary ☹️

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/07/2025 12:26

Natural ways to raise your blood pressure include doing more exercise, drinking more water (always with the bloody water!!!) and eating salt. Apparently being dehydrated is a big cause of low blood pressure.

MooBaggage · 27/07/2025 12:28

@Evenstar no, mine are still under control via HRT, thankfully. I'm also finally sleeping much better, but that's taken a few months to calm down.

I am 56, 2.5 years post menopause. Was (I thought) mostly menopause symptom free.

Estrogen is stored in fat cells so losing significant weight can reduce your estrogen stores. Not sure if it was because I was so obese during menopause, and had high estrogen stores, why menopause felt manageable without HRT.

By the time I had lost 5st I was getting hot flashes again (a lot worse than first time around) in evenings and through the night, getting only about 4hrs sleep a night so went onto HRT (6 months ago) and lots of symptoms were resolved - hot flashes gone, started sleeping through the night and as a bonus getting up to pee during night gone, joint aches and stiffness in mornings gone, brain fog better.

I have lost a further 3st since then and starting to see some symptoms creeping back in. Occasionally once or twice a week I'll wake around 6am burning up, starting to get up in night to pee again, and vaginal atrophy symptoms returning so monitoring and contemplating asking to increase HRT.

Significant weight loss can absolutely affect menopause symptoms, I think your Dr can prescribe non-hormonal meds for hot flashes if you cannot take HRT (my Dr asked me to come off HRT when getting breast investigations but said not to worry they could prescribe something else if needed), or try the menopause board or menopause facebook groups for advice on things to try.

Evenstar · 27/07/2025 12:51

Thank you ladies, if it doesn’t settle I will try and get a GP appointment

It’s actually listed as a side effect, I hadn’t noticed! 🤦‍♀️

Not sure if MJ itself acts on blood pressure or if it’s just a result of weight loss. Mine tends to be 90 something over 50 something most days now and is starting to get quite annoying. I have blood tests and an ECG next week to rule out other things. And I will try reducing the dose a bit more quickly than I was planning, in case that makes a difference.

Thanks - I am doing all that. Switching from cardio to more strength as running gives me chest pain now 🥴

I did find a website recommending 6-10g of salt per day and my tracker says I’m eating 2-3g. Hence last night’s crisps that tasted quite salty but weren’t. I guess everyone is so paranoid about salt these days that there’s not as much of it around as there used to be, even in junk food.

My GP has doubled my dose of Urtrogestan since being on Mounjaro. Anyone having concerns, speak to your GP.

Edited

The return of my symptoms are more weight loss and reduction in estrogen levels related. My estrogen is transdermal, so only oral progesterone potentially affected by Mounjaro.

I have not increased my Mounjaro dose for a year, and only started HRT 6 months ago so his doesn't impact me and I have not had to change my oral progesterone. I discussed with my Dr back in April when the new advice came out and it is something I would only need to consider if I wanted to increase my Mounjaro dose.

Further info here for anyone who hasn't seen the April advice yet as very important advice your provider or Dr (assuming they know you are on Mounjaro) should be telling you.

I’ve seen a post on Reddit, where a fellow MJ ‘loser’ has weighed out foodstuffs in their cupboard to equal the weight they’ve lost so far. They then put it in a carrier bag and tried to lift it.

Think I’m gonna try that

Happy Sunday all!

I’m opting out of weighing in today, I have been away for a few days, very active as it was a city break, but no calorie counting and not enough hydration! I did check the scales, but its clear I need a couple of days to reset so I will weigh in next week!

GiveMeWordGames · 27/07/2025 16:23

I've currently lost somewhere between a leg and an elephant's heart. 🙀

Great list!

I’m inbetween a 2 year old and cheese.

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/07/2025 16:31

I’m 125lb lighter than the highest weight I have on record, 72lbs of that has been lost on Mounjaro since Sept 2024. So in total I’ve lost a 2month old horse carrying a 2 yr old human, and since September I’ve lost an Irish setter and 2 guinea pigs.

OnwardsDownwards · 27/07/2025 18:14

On “what things weigh”, the 24 packs of Coke cans in a supermarket weigh about 8kg/17lb. I can pick one up, but I’d rather not carry it a long way! I’ve lost about 1.5 of those.

Interesting podcast on Dr Karan Explores on GLP1s, everything from how they work to what’s next to what are the social impacts.

My child’s birthday today, so I have not attempted to worry about calories! Cake and pizza have been involved… far less than there would have been this time last year though.

velvetseven · 27/07/2025 18:28

Irish Setter here too!
congratulations to all on their progress.
Ive lost track of the thread. Since last posting I’ve hit healthy BMI, been away, gained 4lbs, lost it again and then more to hit 5 stone off! I think I’ll try to maintain from here, I’m not super skinny but am fitting into 8/10/12 clothes (some vanity sizing here) which was unthinkable when I started.
My giddy Vinted clothes habit is slowing down. I I previously lived in 2 pairs of stretchy trousers (black of course) and 2 black stretchy tops, and now I have a multi-hued mountain of tops and trousers (tho presently wearing some black stretchy trousers and a black top 🙄) Think the prospect of a summer in a smaller body made my shopping go haywire. Will need to be more mindful when it comes to autumn/winter clothes.
Am going to have a look at the Maintenance thread

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/07/2025 20:14

In total I have lost just more than an elephants penis!
It seems more than that (29kg) and a frightening thought of how big an elephants penis is now I guess

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/07/2025 20:31

Accepting the stall and managed x3 gym visits this week so hoping things can get going again this week.
I am 107kg and it did dawn on me that although still very obese with large tummy, this is the smallest my children have ever seen me. I’m at my 13 year ago prepregnacy weight. To be fair I look nothing like I did back then, muscle mass much lower, body fat much higher, tummy and boobs much much lower 🙄
I am still over 25kg more to how I was when my husband met me (1 for each year we been together I guess).

But my children both going through early puberty and growth spurts we seem closer in size that we ever have!
I took them to the gym with me today & it felt nice. I am still the biggest lady in that gym but that didnt matter today as I don't move like a big person any more. I can even cross my legs now. I used to think there was something wrong with my hips before, but nope. Fascinating!

Trying to keep positive. Happy weekend all.

NewbieMJ · 27/07/2025 21:22

I've lost an Irish Setter! There is no way I could lift an Irish Setter, so how did I manage to get around with that weight? For years.

QueenOfHiraeth · 27/07/2025 21:56

I've lost between a gold brick and the world's largest ball of tape (although I think that record has been superceded because, while looking for a picture, Google told me that is 2000lb and even I was never that fat!)

My weight loss is so slow now it's painful but I don't want to reduce calories and am struggling to be more active (not for any good reason, just because I am half woman, half slug) but I do need to motivate myself and do better.

I made a lovely pudding tonight, rather like a cheesecake. I used a full tub of cottage cheese with pineapple, about half that amount of Skyr, half a scoop of vanilla protein powder and blitzed it with a splash of milk to get a soft consistency, blobbed it into 4 ramekins then topped with strawberries and a drizzle of Skinny cinnamon syrup. It was lovely and just over 100cal each

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/07/2025 22:13

@QueenOfHiraeth I’m rubbish at doing exercise, I work a mentally draining job and have a kid and house and all the rest of it so by the time I’m done with that I just find it really fare to convince myself I want to do some exercise too. I’ve resigned myself to being a person who does my exercise in 10 minute bursts. I do some while the coffee machine is making me a latte and I drink a few coffees a day so it adds up, I also do Jill Sansone walking videos with DD, she finds them hilarious so it’s a good fun 15-30 minutes of us walking on the spot, kicking, side stepping and giggling.
