Mounjaro/Wegovy with > 5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 9!

1000 replies

MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:50

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

I'm trying to stop buying clothes for a while other than essentials as, despite having sold loads, I still have wardrobes full so am trying to be disciplined. I am about £150 in profit so far though from my clear outs Grin
Having said that I think I may need new jeans. Any recommendations for a 65 year old, size 16-ish with a giant lower belly roll? Must be high waisted and preferably from somewhere who does online or has shops where I can try on. I have had some great jeans from supermarkets but am mightily miffed that they have all closed their changing rooms round here so I might as well buy online as give them my business and have to travel back to return stuff
I saw a Daily Mail article last week that suggested M&S have a sale coming soon, which could be good as sales are down due to their cyberattack, but nothing reduced online as yet. Anyone know when that may start please?

gimmemounjaro · 26/07/2025 07:17

Weigh day for me

SW: 241.2 / 17st 3 / BMI 35.6
CW: 159.1 / 11st 5 / BMI 23.5
GW: 150 / 10st 10 / BMI 22.2

This week - 2.0 lbs
Total loss - 82.1 / 5st 12

All going well and nearly at my rather arbitrary goal. The last half stone has come off very quickly (3 weeks), not sure why as I have been reducing the dose. The half stone before that took 8 weeks. But who are we to question the ways of mounjaro 🤷‍♀️😂

Really starting to panic think about maintenance now. I really hope I can do it. The thought of going back to where I started is just too awful. I’m trying to just take one day at a time and see what happens on the lower doses. I would love to come off MJ altogether at some point and use the money for gym, swimming and yoga instead. I’m on 8.75mg at the moment and losing, so worst case scenario I suppose is to maintain on this dose, which be ok. Aargh - going for a run now to stop the cogitating!

AnneinEdinburgh · 26/07/2025 07:33

@QueenOfHiraeth Sainsbury's wide legged high waisted for me. Comfortable and flattering and even if not reduced £22.50

I have major lower belly roll and like Next jeans.

You’d probably be fine to just walk in to store and try on at a 16. At a 24 I used to order online using PayPal pay in 3 so I could buy a dozen pairs to try on! Order them straight to store, try on in their changing rooms and return what I don’t want immediately!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 26/07/2025 08:51

Wow, great successes here-well
Done!
I am a little frustrated. After 3-4 weeks staying the same, I was excited last week with my 1kg loss and though t the scales were on the move again. Nope. Another stay the same 🙄

I have one more week at 7.5mg and both glad and scared to be going up to 10mg. I have picked up my exercise this week with a swim and one visit to the gym. I know it's not enough but I am trying.

Wear a dress and just try them on in store?

eta: Sorry, my reply was supposed to be to @QueenOfHiraeth but it wouldn’t let me change that part.

NotsosunnyShropshire · 26/07/2025 12:21

Just tried on a pair of size 18 jeans from eBay. I thought I still had a way to go.

Managed to pull them over my substantial calves up to my hips. Yay!

Managed to pull them over my hips. Yay!

Managed to do them up! Yay!!

Managed to sit down in them and still be able to breathe!!!! Woohoo!

Still have a roll of fat overspill and my C-section overhang, but I am so chuffed. Even knowing that they size up large in Marks, the label still says an 18 so I’m takin it as a NSV.

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/07/2025 12:45

Thanks for the suggestions everybody.
@NotsosunnyShropshire I always wear leggings with a long top to go to Costco so I can try pants or jeans on but feel a bit self-conscious doing that in the supermarket as there is less space. I might have to just bite the bullet!
@OnwardsDownwards I may have to try Next, DD2 suggested them. Have always avoided so far as, when I was fatter, their shape just did not suit me but may be different now.
@AnneinEdinburgh Unfortunately we don't have a Sainsburys nearby, ours is a small one with no clothes so I'm about 40 mins by car to a big one

I found the answer to my question abut the M&S sale in The Times this morning. Apparently it is this weekend only and in-store only. I'm about an hour and a quarter away from a big M&S (we have a few smaller ones nearer but range and stock levels are always rubbish) and can't face busy motorways at weekends so that's that option gone

WeAllHaveWings · 26/07/2025 12:54

Saturday weigh in and injection day today. Stayed the same this week.

End of week - 57 (5 x 2.5mg, 52 x 3.75mg)
SW - 21st 5lbs BMI 44.8
CW - 13st 3lbs BMI 27.7
Losses (2024) - 10,2,2,4,1,3,3,3,1,3,2,2,3,3,2,3,3,2,1,4,0,2,3,3,1,4,0
Losses (2025) - 0,3,2,1,3,1,1,0,2,3,3,-1,3,2,2,1,2,2,1,1,0,3,0,1,2,1,3,0,2,0
Total loss - 8st 02lbs (114lbs), 38.1%
Next Target 🎯- 13st

I like numbers, currently my last 6 week average loss is ~1.3lbs which I am good with and find that broader picture a more motivating way to view losses now more 0 weeks are appearing - which is not unexpected at this stage. One for the spreadsheets!

Previous 6 week average loss have been - 1.0, 1.2, 1.2, 1.7, 1.2, 1.5, 1.3.

6 weeks feels like a decent period to average over - long enough to smooth out but short enough to be representative of recent efforts.

Some great losses and NSVs from everyone this week. Well done! 💗

GiveMeWordGames · 26/07/2025 13:31

@QueenOfHiraeth how are you for a convenient Argos? If you buy Tu stuff online you can click and collect from any Argos, it doesn't have to be one in a Sainsburys store.

That's a great NSV @NotsosunnyShropshire

I have a beautiful size 18 stripey silk Monsoon blouse which I loved when I bought it 6+ years ago but even then it was already pushing it. I inevitably grew out of it but could never bring myself to get rid. I tried it on yesterday and it still pulls a little across my boobs but I have utter confidence I'll be happily wearing it by September. Four months ago I couldn't even have fit my arms in the thing.

I've also got a load of Next size18 bootcut jeans which are now bizarrely on trend (they weren't when I bought them!!) and they all fit again. Basically I'm back to the size I was in about 2016. Now just need to go back another 10 years and I'll be grand....

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/07/2025 13:38

Ooohhhh are boot cuts back in fashion @GiveMeWordGames I really want some black bootcut mid or low rise jeans, I hate high rise I think I have a short torso or something because I feel like they cut in not far under my boobs and it irritates me every time I sit down.

Well, I definitely feel like I see the yoof/Gen Z walking around in a lot of jeans that are somewhere between bootcut and flares, trailing along the pavement. 😄

Not sure about the mid/low rise bit though. I haven't tried to buy jeans in a few years so I don't know what's actually on offer out there.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 26/07/2025 13:47

Another three-week complete stall. I left my starting month thread because it had become just too disheartening.

RobinEllacotStrike · 26/07/2025 13:53

@TryingAgainAgainAgainmany if us on this thread experience long stalls. It’s part of the process I guess. Don’t get disheartened- keep an eye on your calories, get moving in your chosen way & big up the water 💧
you will progress through this plateau

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/07/2025 14:01

@GiveMeWordGamesI’m finding it very properly really weird that the stuff currently in fashion is what my skinny friends were wearing when I was a teenager back in the 90s that I couldn’t fit into. It’s strangely off putting because whenever I try anything on in my mind I look like a 41 yr old woman trying to look like a teenager.

gimmemounjaro · 26/07/2025 14:10

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 26/07/2025 13:47

Another three-week complete stall. I left my starting month thread because it had become just too disheartening.

Echoing what Robin said - this has happened to me a few times - I was going great guns until January when I lost 3lbs in 4 weeks, very disappointing. Then in March I gained 2lbs in 4 weeks 😣 Then I lost for a couple of weeks, then another fallow period, lost 2lbs in 5 weeks in April / May. Then gained 2lbs in 3 weeks in June / July. It’s really hard but keep going, do the basics well and it will all start up again. I think our bodies do sometimes need a moment to adjust, that’s how it felt to me. I should be slowing down now as I’m in the healthy BMI range but have just lost 6.6lbs in 2 weeks. It’s completely unpredictable and doesn’t make any sense so try not to let it bother you.

GiveMeWordGames · 26/07/2025 14:19

@InfoSecInTheCity yes, I totally understand that and it's very disconcerting.

Obviously I know fashion is cyclical but seeing all this 90s style stuff while I'm trying to get my body to a much older approximation of what it was in the 90s/early 00s (I was relatively slim until my late 20s, it was from 30 onwards that things started going downhill) is unnerving.

@TryingAgainAgainAgain the monthly starter thread can definitely be tough, especially when there are people hitting their goal because they simply had a lot less to lose. Hang in there! Things will get going again.

NervyWegovy · 26/07/2025 14:21

Hows everyone doing? Since breaking my wrist and having the ill feelings with my slimming world consultant after her saying I overate whilst still swelling and the cast I went on an emotional eating spiral and wasted the whole month on 0.5mg putting on 12lbs ( at least its less than i did last time tbf!)

About to take my 1mg and been back on plan since Tuesday a bit nervous as ive heard people say they got side effects with the 1mg

MooBaggage · 26/07/2025 19:37

@TryingAgainAgainAgain Stalls are a total pain in the arse...

The good thing about this thread is that because we've all got lots to lose, we're in it for the very long run, so nearly everyone on here has got experience of stalls and knows that you will and do come out of the other end. Losses are sometimes erratic/inexplicable and lack of them is very frustrating!

Fingers crossed the scales move for you soon - maybe try to change something, even if it's to help psychologically - a few evenings doing some exercising, more water, change up your meals? Hang on in there! 💪

OP posts:
Reginaphalangeeeee · 26/07/2025 21:10

Yep @MooBaggageits a heart sink.
I accepted my stall but after a loss last week it's played mind tricks on my stalling again this week 😩

Really working hard on not giving in to the wrong mindset.

Would love to hear how long some others on here have stalled for?
Diffinately finding without the weight loss wins, &good feeling that comes with it my motivation is lower to keep strong.

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/07/2025 21:12

@TryingAgainAgainAgain We've all been there! Just keep plodding on and eventually it'll move.
Having said that, have you recalculated your TDEE and daily calories as you may need less after losing weight?
@NervyWegovy Welcome back! Don't let a SW consultant bring you down. Find your inner anger and prove him or her wrong! Remember too that any break releases lots of inflammatory chemicals which may affect weight loss but you can do this. Onward and downward :)

RobinEllacotStrike · 26/07/2025 23:41

I’ve felt that I’ve “stalled” for most of this year. Things certainly have slowed down and I’ve had a couple of months with no losses.

and still in 2025 I’ve lost 14.5 kilos

total loss 37 kg so it makes sense to me that things have slowed. I feel like my body is taking what it needs.

gimmemounjaro · 27/07/2025 07:38

I have a similar pattern - lost around twice as much in the first six months as I did in the second.

MooBaggage · 27/07/2025 08:52

Yep, I slowed right down in June, which was the 6th month on MJ - I had a week's holiday, so ate more that week, but other than that kept doing the same things and I think only lost about 2lbs over the month, which I had almost been losing every week up until that point.

July has been more whooshy - for no reason whatsoever, as I've kept on doing the same things and I think I've lost 7lbs this month so far.

No logic to it at all and a stall or slowing down doesn't mean there will never be progress - I think of it as my body regrouping before we head off into the unknown lbs again 😀

OP posts:
NewbieMJ · 27/07/2025 10:49

@Reginaphalangeeeee and @TryingAgainAgainAgain I am the Queen of the stalls. Honestly, I have been near tears at the frustration of the scales not budging for weeks at a time, then suddenly a nice whoosh as @MooBaggage describes, or not even a whoosh but a gradual 1 pound off, trickling down.

As others have said, the sticking with the process, regardless of what the scales say, has definitely been the key for me (and I can completely empathise with the motivation that comes with seeing the scales move down - it is my number one motivator and nothing keeps me on track more than a weight loss).

I am about 5 weeks from being on MJ for a year (started 2nd September 2024, and am 71 pounds down), and while that is anything but speedy, the difference is unbelievably good. People walk past me in the street now and I smile as I can tell they haven't recognised me. It is life changing. So, keep plodding on and in time, you'll look back and think wow.

I completely get it though, but stick with it.
