New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

1st week done and I’m pleased with the loss. Just tried to eat a balanced diet. Calorie counting is not sustainable for me. The lack of thinking about food is a revelation. My head feels so much lighter let alone my body 😁. I did post in the July starters but some of the starting weights on there are lower than my target. I wonder how much my perception of an ideal weight is skewed. Is everyone on here trying to get to a normal BMI weight?

Lozzie118 · 14/07/2025 12:23

I'm from wales tooo!!

Emas82 · 14/07/2025 12:29

@Titiansheim not sure BMI is achievable for me, but I might be proved wrong! For me it would be 9st 6lbs, which I don't think I've been since I was a child! I'm only 5ft 1in. The lowest I've got as an adult was 10st 3lbs, and that wasn't sustainable.
But maybe I'll be wrong and I'll get there with MJ! Still early days for me.

MooBaggage · 14/07/2025 12:35

@Titianshe I know what you mean! My SW was higher than yours and my goal weight is also higher at 87kg. That's a target I set at the beginning of taking MJ and will see me at a BMI of 29, which was as low as I could imagine at the time.

6 months in and over halfway there, I've set a lower target of a healthy BMI, which will take me another year to get to..!

But I think it's achievable, which is amazing in itself. The MJ has given me hope and confidence that slowly but surely, I'll get there. It will be around 9 stone off for me once I'm there - am currently very close to 4 stone off at the moment - although this week's holiday may have cost a week or so's progress! 😊

@Lozzie118 I started off with MedExpressand am with IQ Doctor now, which was the cheapest when I switched and is fairly competitive. They deliver very quickly, which I like!

Darlinghag · 14/07/2025 12:39

@Lozzie118 i’m with asda, who initally weren’t particularly cheap, but they’ve reduced prices so any dose 10mg and under is super competitive now - my 10mg pen (I take 8mg, so 5 doses a pen, 6 if you extract golden) is £163ish with postage.

i had been planning to move on, but i’m tentatively hoping to stay as they seem to moving into maintenance plans etc. they aren’t particularly communicative with responses to queries but i find them very up front and reliable about wait times and delivery etc.

Darlinghag · 14/07/2025 12:44

@Titianshe we’ve all talked about this recently!! I do think its common to have skewed perception.

Initally, 10st felt impossible for me, but that still has me at an overweight BMI! I thought I would aim for 11-12 stone but I think I am going to try to at least get under 10st - eventually! I know its going to take a long time, (am 13st8ish) but thats ok for me.

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/07/2025 12:44

@Titianshe I've lost 34kg without calorie counting so it is possible.

@Lozzie118 I've alwasy used the same provider (The Family Chemist) as I couldnt be bothered chasing coupons etc and they seemed to have fairly stable & competitive pricing across all strengths.

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/07/2025 12:53

Darlinghag · 14/07/2025 10:57

@RobinEllacotStrike you have actually made me think about yoga fir a while, you know.

I’ve never actually set foot in a gym or exercise class - I have always been completely intimidated by it.

i’ve not bit the bullet yet, but I think I need to do some stuff at home to get some basic capability on place - I’m so stiff and inflexible!! There’s a class ten minutes from me for all capabilities so i think i’m going to aim to sign up in september when things are cooler, and i’ve had a chance to learn some things so i’m not completely and utterly pathetic at it!!

i’ve also considered using chatgpt to create a little weekly plan for me utilising what I have at home, youtube and my regular dog walking. Anyone else done this?

Hey @Darlinghag you will certainly get more flexiable in yoga. There are so many different styles, I'd suggest the main thing is to start gently. That class sounds promising & remember everyone was once a beginner & everyone knows what is like to be inflexible.

GROSS GENERALSATION Yoga people tend to be non-judgemental (or at least they are trying to be less-judgy), accepting & welcoming.

This is a cute little starter video:

As well as being exercise yoga really helps to connect you with your body in a positive way, and helps relax mentally too.

Morning ladies,

I've also been thinking about a treadmill as we move towards the darker months.

We are very lucky to have a couple of acres of land and most mornings I do laps of the paddock - fast walk/jogging for 20mins getting in between 1-2 miles, I then do 10-20 mins of kettle bells. This is all before my kids are dressed and ready to go to school at 8am. I love this morning routine and feel its loss when I don't have time to do it. I'm not sure what I'll do when the mornings are too dark.

We're surrounded by strawberry fields and when I have more time the dog and I go off across the fields and try to get in 3-4 miles.

I also started open water swimming last year at a nearby lake. We went yesterday and I swam 1200 meters and felt so strong in the water. I'm finding it easier to do longer lengths of front crawl.

@RobinEllacotStrike I like to sound of your hot yoga!

I wore my cycle shorts yesterday to swimming. I normally wear them as anti chafe shorts but yesterday I wore them as actual shorts with a t-shirt and not a dress over it. I have never worn shorts as an adult let alone out in public - I don't know what came over me!

alltablenochairs · 14/07/2025 12:56

@Lozzie118 I use Simple Online Pharmacy. They price match which is a good thing for me.

However the real reason I went with them is because they deliver by DPD. Royal Mail isnt reliable where I live. OK if its a birthday card but I don't trust them with mj

mince3point14159265 · 14/07/2025 17:08

@Darlinghag I second Robin's suggestion of using Yoga with Adrienne at home until you feel a bit more confident. I've always been tempted when there have been threads on MN following her monthly programs at the beginning of the year, but this year she only did a 7 day one which was a perfect start, and didn't feel too daunting to commit to 🫣 . I just search on my phone and then link up to the tv. There are lots of different videos, including ones aimed at weight loss. I like repeating some of my favourites, as I can feel how much stronger and more flexible I'm becoming. And it's free! 😁

GiveMeWordGames · 14/07/2025 17:15

@RobinEllacotStrike thanks for that link. I'm very tempted by yoga as well but like @Darlinghag I have a bit of an allergy to group classes and I would want to feel like I had some idea of what I was doing before joining one.

I do love the idea of the relaxation/meditative aspect and getting in touch with my body as well as building core strength.

I've put a range (11-12st) as my goal which would have me at the top end of "healthy" BMI But since I haven't been there since my late 20s it's all going to depend on what it looks and feels like when I get near it. If I get to 12.5 stone and feel good, I'm not going to force the issue. And being post-menopausal and not on HRT I'm aware that it's not necessarily a bad thing to be slightly above on BMI.

mince3point14159265 · 14/07/2025 17:50

@Titianshe I originally had 11 stone as a target weight, partly because of age and partly because of the slimmest I had been in (not so!) recent memory. I quickly realised that would not get me to a healthy BMI, which got pushed even lower when I realised that the nurse who had rather forcefully measured me at a pre-op a couple of years ago, had been right when she said I was 2 inches shorter than I previously had been (thanks f-ing menopause!😩).
If I get to the top weight of the range for my height I will be absolutely delighted and I feel exactly as @MooBaggage says; it feels achievable now. I can quite happily stick with how I'm eating now and exercising is becoming easier, so why wouldn't I keep going and try to get to a healthy BMI?

@InfoSecInTheCity thank you for your very gentle push! I finally saw the optician last week who said it's just a floater and no sign of damage to the retina. Phew!
There has been discussion on one of the other threads about MJ & dry eyes and I was wondering if it's possible that MJ could have caused the vitreous humour to dry out and pull away (more than just with age) and cause the floater? Thought I would just update just on case anyone else has a similar problem.

You're doing amazingly well!

Timetofindme · 14/07/2025 19:00

@GiveMeWordGames that's a good point, thank you! Funny the mental gymnastics its easy to twist into- despite having done no exercise and eating not being as I'd hoped (although had smoothies and salads a fair bit) and not weighing - i still had subconsciously hoped for a big loss. Not putting on when dropping all my exercise, non existent steps etc is actually, as you say, a win in itself. Thank you!

@MooBaggage I've really wanted a walking pad but realised I would only use it during meetings as there's no way I could read or write a report and walk at the same time, and we're very much a cameras on culture in meetings and I think me bobbing around as I walk might not be well received 😂

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 14/07/2025 19:18

@Time4changeagain interesting that you think you’re head bobbing around would be frowned upon, I do step toe touches with dumbbells and I’m sure that if my head of dept noticed he’d be suggesting everyone was doing it. I’m waiting for our building works to finish (Nov) and then I’m buying myself a walking pad.

@MooBaggage there is a thread on one of the weight loss boards about walking pads.

@gimmemounjarocongratulations on a spectacular & life changing year!

💐🥂🍾🥝🥝

Thank you! Your posts always resonate - I am 54, lost the same amount in about the same time, also a hot yoga fan although I don’t go that often these days, I used to pre pandemic and then stopped but was enticed back by a 40% off please come back offer. It fixed a shoulder injury for me too!

OnwardsDownwards · 14/07/2025 20:08

@Lozzie118 so far I’ve used MedExpress, Numan and Zava. I’ve looked up the prices on the comparison, and gone for one of the cheapest (not always the actual cheapest, some I’ve clicked and just not liked the look of them, which is probably ridiculous!).

I’ve been shopping my wardrobe today, now have 3 “new” jeans and 2 “new” shorts to wear! I’m more or less down to pre pregnancy size (my oldest is 8…), but I have definitely changed shape. I carry much more weight on my tummy now, I always used to be vaguely hourglass, so dresses and T-shirts I wore previously don’t necessarily fit right. So that’s something to figure out. Have been good and listed lots on Vinted so I have funds for shopping!

In a very weird “this is not me” moment, I saw an ad for the huge zip line in Wales and thought “maybe I could give that a go one day”. I’ve never done adventurous stuff like that, and I suddenly realised I think it’s more because I’ve always been scared I was too heavy than actually scared of the thing.

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/07/2025 20:24

@OnwardsDownwards. re the zip line I felt the same. Plus a mildish fear of heights, but I was up for challenging that. Back in March I was 25 kilos down & feeling more confident & I did over 3 kms zip line tour through the bush in nz with my girls. One of the best things I’ve ever done. I’m so happy to have pushed myself.

Just a thought for anyone hesitating about going to yoga, I go to a lovely and very supportive chair yoga class and there are all ages from 40’s up.

I reached a point a couple of years ago where mat classes made my fibromyalgia flare up. Some years ago I went from chair yoga to mat, so it can be just a stepping stone to getting to that level.

Do give it a try.

Fantastic! I’m so hesitant about even things like going to trampolines with my kids, that’s what I really want to change.
