Switch to Pharmulous of The Family Chemist

SunshineSipRepeat · 02/07/2025 17:14

For my second mounjaro pen, I’d like to switch to a new provider that I can be with long term and count on being reliable (my first pen was MedExpress).

I’ve done some research around switching, current costs, looked and Trust Pilot, and looked at maintenance information. I’ve narrowed it down to Pharmulous and The Family Chemist.

which would you choose?

I’m worried I will mess it all up trying to switch and not getting a pen in time, or not being able to go back to MedExpress if I needed to.

thank you

Right now I wouldn't recommend the family chemist. They are impossible to unsubscribe spam emails from. And if dh saw my mj email folders he'd be wondering where all the mj related emails come from
Of course I can say it's spam but that's not the point. I shouldn't have to.

Having used both, I have now been settled with Pharmulous for the last 6 months.

When I first moved to TFC I thought I had found the ‘right one for me’ but found their timings and deliveries to be unpredictable with emails at 5pm saying it was coming the next day and I had to be in all day. Couldn’t be doing with that!

Pharmulous deliver next day if you order before 2pm and the only one which has not arrived when expected was one over new year when they had a backlog from bank holidays etc. They are incredibly supportive of maintenance and I think Dr Mel is a great ambassador for them!

That’s really useful. Thank you so much. It’s the real life experiences I need. I’ve seen that Pharmulous doesn’t have an online ‘interface’ so to speak so requests for more info is by email etc. have you found that okay? And did you find the switch and approval easy?

I honestly prefer email to any sort of ‘interface’ as the odds are you are actually taking to a human being rather than a bot!! They are very responsive to emails and there is a separate address so you can speak directly to the clinicians if needed.

I completed the first consultation form on a Sunday and had an email back first thing Monday morning asking for photos of prescription etc and a link to an ID verifying company. It was approved and despatched that day and with me Tuesday morning.

I will say though that they are about to launch a new website which will include the requirement to book a video consultation which may add more time to approvals etc

In my opinion, they are a customer centred pharmacy who are just quietly getting on with responsible supportive prescribing without all the flashiness offered by some others.

I have just ordered my 7th pen and I have changed to Pharmulous as I wanted to move to a provider that was good for long-term maintenance.
I emailed them over the weekend with lots of questions, got a thorough response on Monday. Ordered today, sent the appropriate pictures and did the ID check and it was approved this afternoon. It will be dispatched tomorrow and I think it will arrive on Friday. So far an easy switch.

TheNinthLock · 02/07/2025 20:29

@IReallyNeedThisToWork @Slowrunning
How does the Pharmulous ID check work? Do they ask for passport? Or driving license?
Do they want body pictures or only pictures of previous prescriptions?
Thanks!

CountingSleepySheep · 02/07/2025 20:33

Been with TFC since January and find them very good, pens have always been in stock and arrive quickly. I work from home so specified days are not a problem for me. Agree with pp you do get a lot of emails though! I haven't used Pharmulous so can't compare. I'm into normal bmi now and they have done a maintenance consultation with me. TFC offer maintenance at strengths of 2.5, 5, 10 and 15, not a problem for me but could be for some.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 02/07/2025 20:49

@TheNinthLock it was a while ago but I think I was a picture of my passport through the site they sent the link for. Definitely a picture of my previous prescription but I can’t remember what photos they wanted of me, sorry.

TheNinthLock · 02/07/2025 20:51

@IReallyNeedThisToWork , that's fab, thank you. I am moving to them this month all being well so want to be prepared :)

TheNinthLock · 02/07/2025 21:10

@IReallyNeedThisToWork , how do you know about the new website for Pharmulous and the move to video consultations? I have googled and can’t find any information?

FlowersFawb · 02/07/2025 21:27

I've been with TFC since January no issues at all.

The ID check was following a link to show a picture of my id (either passport or driving licence) and my face. Then I emailed them a full length photograph and a picture of my previous prescription as I am now under 30 BMI.

I can confirm this as well. Had a maintenance call with Dr Mel last week and she told me about it.

Thoroughly recommend Pharmulous based on my call. It lasted 30mins. Dr Mel was interested in what I had to say, really understanding, helpful with great advice.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 03/07/2025 06:31

@TheNinthLock same as @Choirgirl699 😁 Dr Mel told me during my maintenance call a while ago.

TheNinthLock · 03/07/2025 07:59

@Choirgirl699 @IReallyNeedThisToWork @Slowrunning Fab, thank you. Sounds like they are thorough.

I had for a while been thinking about moving over to them from Zava. I think I will move :)

SunshineSipRepeat · 03/07/2025 14:30

I have 3 weeks left of my current pen. When would you recommend starting the switch?

OP posts:
IReallyNeedThisToWork · 03/07/2025 14:54

@SunshineSipRepeat Anytime you want really. Depending on time of day you send the consultation form and how quickly you sort photos etc, the pen would be with you in around 48 hours. If you have concerns, maybe do it after your next jab if funds allow. They’re pretty efficient and quick though!

Thank you. I might do it on the next couple of weeks as I need to decide which strength to go for still.

Just an update to say that my first order from Pharmulous arrived today as planned. Well packaged and nice and cold.

TheNinthLock · 04/07/2025 16:09

I placed my order with Pharmulous yesterday morning. By lunchtime I had the email with the link requesting a full body picture, a picture of proof of my most recent prescription, and a link to verify ID.
I completed ID check and sent pictures after work yesterday late afternoon.
My order was approved this morning.
I have not heard about dispatch but I am hoping it will be sent today so I can be home to receive it tomorrow.

SunshineSipRepeat · 04/07/2025 17:51

These both sound positive. I think I’m going to switch to Pharmulous. I just need to know whether I’m sticking on 2.5 or morning up first.

Did you need to be in for the delivery please?

They left mine in my parcel box.

I think that’s probably more to do with your postie rather than Pharmulous?
I asked my postman what the situation would be should I be out, and he said they’d not leave it as it is a 24-hours signed for service. (That was with ZAVA but I think Pharmulous use same)
Would be great if he could leave it!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 04/07/2025 19:54

@Fatmumslim01 it’s RM 24 hr so needs to be signed for unless you have a postman as lovely as my usual one who has my permission to sign for it😁.

You can email Pharmulous when you order though and request a specific delivery day or, if you’re lucky enough to live locally, pop to the office and pick it up👍👍
