Think how often 'lose weight' is used to fob people off by HCPs.

I wonder how many people will lose weight then find themselves back in front of the GP saying 'I've lost the weight but XYZ is still wrong and getting worse'.

Though HCPs want it to be, losing weight isn't a panacea.

Ketra · 16/07/2025 11:43

Hi everyone. Not sure how much I will post as I am a long-time lurker, but wanted to say that reading this thread has been so helpful to me. I am only two weeks into my MJ journey and had been a bit deflated seeing people who had goal weights of a couple stone weight loss and so have been able to see results very quickly. I am planning on my weight loss being a 2 year journey, so appreciate it's going to take a lot longer to see results! Seeing so many of you having made progress, and continuing to make progress, gives me confidence that I will also be able to stick with it this time!

I did some research on the feeling flat thing and those who have bariatric surgery have exactly the same thing! Basically we need a new comfort when we’re upset as the thing we had before (and the lower brain goes to on autopilot) doesn’t work anymore

Oh God. I should replace it with long walks on the beach, but knowing me I'll end up on crack!

PearlsPearl · 16/07/2025 12:34

Welcome @Ketra most of us are in it for the long game. I only use this thread and not the monthly thread I started reading because my goal weight was a lot of people's starting weight and it depressed me.

LOL @eibbed999 I hear that! I keep thinking I wish I could get endorphins from exercise so I'd be more keen to replace the food comfort with it. As it is I just get hot and sweaty and complain a lot about it!

TragicMuse · 16/07/2025 12:53

I’ll read back in a minute.

but first…

Back on track! Medino have approved my prescription so I can continue!

Thanks @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOnefor the suggestion! I really like that they have a named contact.

Panic over!

Oh god, I also don’t get exercise endorphins! No one believes me, but all I feel after it’s over is ‘thank fuck that’s over!’ No running high, nothing.

I find exercise interminably boring!

Hello everyone,

sorry about posting and running earlier in the week. I am on holiday until tomorrow, so I haven't had the time to post again.

Ok, so can I join you please? I do have more than 10 stone to lose to be in a healthy BMI range. However, I did once lose 7 stone from where I started this time and my body just would not budge any further. So I am setting myself a goal of just losing as much as I can.
12 years ago I lost 7 stone and felt good. I kept it off for 6 years, but since then it has crept back up to where I am now.

I am due to take my 4th 2.5 MJ today, but we have extended our break for an extra 24 hours, so can't take it until I get home tomorrow.

So far I have been very pleased with how I feel on it and impressed with the suppression from day 1.

One extra benefit I am enjoying is that my eczema in my ears seems to have been healed, after driving me absolutely nuts for the past decade!!! 😳

So I returned to Mumsnet after a 10 year break, purely to see what support was around for people like me on MJ.

I started off looking at the June starters thread and nearly didn't even bother going to see about getting the jab.
Everyone's starting weight is my goal weight and yet they were so disgusted by their bodies and wobbly bits, it put me off joining them for sure..... Then I found you lovely lot and can really see you understand each others issues etc.

So that's me. A special wave to the Scottish folk here. I am living in Scotland now, moved up from the very south of England 5 years ago and
we love it here.

PearlsPearl · 16/07/2025 14:04

Hi @PositiveAttitude and welcome! As I said above, the monthly threads are not for me for the same reason. Welcome to our lovely thread, where we all 'get it' and each other.

I'm in Scotland too after moving up here 18 months ago from the SW too!

@TragicMuse that made me laugh so much cos that's exactly what I'm like, just pure relief it's over, no endorphins to be seen! SO happy to hear you've got it sorted now and been prescribed it. What a relief.

That's great!
I really rate Medino.
My 15mg pens all cost £176 with the discount.
I think it's a much better set-up than the massive companies.

I'm glad you got sorted.

I'm with Medino too and have never had any issues - quite reasonably priced and good to deal with. They also send you an email with a discount code for your next order, so keep a look out! So glad you're sorted, that must have been so stressful.

Oh so do I.

I can't imagine going to a gym and enjoying it, although DD and I go swimming every week.

Quick question - I got a small sharps box with my first order (I was initially with Independent Pharmacy), and it's now almost full. Do you guys just buy a new one from somewhere? I think I have to arrange for the local council to pick up the full one, at least I did after surgery when I was on blood thinners.

PearlsPearl · 16/07/2025 14:14

I'm in Fife!

I've never done the train to London before @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne but I've got it the first time in Sep as we're going down to Kent for a wedding. Hope it's a nice journey!

PearlsPearl · 16/07/2025 14:15

@eibbed999 I took my full one to local pharmacy and they gave me a new one for free :)

PearlsPearl · 16/07/2025 14:15

But they sell them on amazon!

Edinburgh for me!

The East Coast Mainline (Edinburgh to King's Cross) is broadly a nicer journey than the West Coast (Glasgow to Euston) train. You get some lovely sea views, and King's Cross isn't a bad station where as Euston is a hell hole.

You can ask your provider for a free one, too.

@PositiveAttitude love the name! Agree that the monthly weightloss groups are quite off putting. I fell down a rabbit hole one time thinking, if people are so disgusted by a size 16, God knows what they think of my large size 26! I also find it a bit odd that someone would turn to WLI for a couple of stone. Of course everyone is different and entitled to take the meds if they need to, maybe I just find it a bit extreme if there's not a significant amount to lose? I don't know.

@PearlsPearl the endorphins I do get! I'd recommend trying an exercise that you like. For example I hate gym, running, swimming etc but love dancing. And after several YouTube workouts, have managed to find a channel specifically that plays my favourite music, my ability and I actually look forward to doing it 😎 I turn the TV all the way up and have a disco at home, completely sweaty! once I lose a bit more and my endurance picks up, I'd like to join some team sports - the local women's netball and basketball team.

52soon · 16/07/2025 16:26

Just got 5th dose out of my 5mg pen by doing hard twist, tried it on previous pens and didn’t work, got lucky this time. Made me feel better than chucking a dose away as on previous pens. ( can’t be doing with extra syringe etc) so Jab 13 today and 20lbs lost so far, slow compared to a lot but I’m happy it’s going in right direction another 7st4lb to go to get bmi of 24.8. I have a new 5mg and a new 7.5mg waiting in fridge. Onwards and downwards we go.

Markoj · 16/07/2025 16:27

my wife is on 9.2 stone lost, the confidance it has brought her is unreal. Zero side effects and not an awful lot of exercise if im honest!

Shes used a couple of clinics and is currently with keltoi.co.uk and seems happy.
