7 stone down on mounjaro - but not seeing a change in dress size

stclementine · 17/06/2025 20:33

Just that really. I’ve been taking mounjaro for just over a year and gone from 17.5 stone to 9.13 as of this morning, yet I’ve only gone down from a 24/26 dress size to a 20/22. It’s making me doubt myself, my scales, everything. People are noticing that I’ve lost weight and some of my old clothes are nit ridiculously baggy, but I thought I’d be smaller by now? I’m short - barely 5’2” and middle aged so have that spread (but not menopausal or even peri menopausal). Is it me, or have other people had a similar experience? I’ve got 3 stone to go until I’m in the middle of normal BMI.

@Mirabai you have missed the obvious point that you have been that weight your whole life whereas this poster is on WLI due to severe obesity with all the disordered eating that that entails. WLI prescribers do not continue to prescribe down to the lowest possible BMI, they often cut off around mid-BMI range with good reason and then the person has the option of a maintenance plan ,depending on their circumstances, or by going it alone via traditional methods. Losing a huge amount of weight doesn't automatically come with a reset of disordered eating. if you choose to look at https://www.smartbmicalculator.com ,which is more approriate for someone our age ,i took the liberty of inputting your stats, here what it says "
"Your body mass index (BMI) is calculated as exactly 18.9 kilograms per square meter.
Health aspects
Your weight is at a marginally lower level; in our view, it still should still be fine for your health. By classification of the WHO, you are "normalweight".
Your low body mass will not be a problem for your health provided you are getting sufficient amounts of vital substances such as protein, minerals, vitamins and essential fats. A low but stable weight may be fine, but an unintended weight loss could be a sign of poor health.
SBMI = 29/70
This assessment is based on the newly developed Smart Body Mass Index. Its ideal range is between 30/70 and 39/70.
Your Smart Body Mass Index (SBMI) is calculated as 29/70 or "29 points out of 70".
Weight stability
Do not lose any weight. A small gain in weight could be beneficial, preferably by building up muscle mass.
Weight management
With a weight gain of 6 pounds up to a target weight of 8 stones 4 pounds, your health would benefit."
as i said, going into older age, lower weights for women are associated with poorer health outcomes "https://www.verywellhealth.com/healthy-weight-and-bmi-range-for-older-adults-2223592". someone on long term WLI or trying to maintain a very low BMI via calorie control may struggle to eat a nutritionally adequate diet, hence why aiming for the lowest BMI possible is not always healthy, depending on your age/ethnicity and personal circumstances. Aiming for a stable healthy weight is best.

What weird, inappropriate passive-aggressive nonsense. Perhaps to be expected on a weight thread.

I’m not Caucasian & I’m very muscley which buggers up your attempted calculations. Medics have described my weight and BMI as “perfect.”

Again, it’s not about you. This thread is about the OP. An OP who clearly has some disordered thinking about her weight. It doesn’t matter what you weigh and how good you think you look at that weight. It’s about an OP who is using WLI and has some level of dysmorphia.
You clearly have some sort of agenda around being at the lower end of the recommended weight range… probably best to keep it off this thread.

Seriously? I am not the one who has just written a long post making this about me! I merely responded to the absurdity of it. The blame lies squarely with that poster.

I asked why posters can’t be supportive of the OP, and that includes you, instead of wanging on and on about the fact her target weight isn’t exactly in the “middle” of the BMI range - as if it was of any relevance - given she may never get there.

If anyone has an agenda it’s those trying to undermine OP when she’s doing really well.

RealMintBird · 20/06/2025 21:21

Somewhat the pot calling the kettle black complaining about me making comments about your BMI (because you state "I’m not Caucasian & I’m very muscley") whilst simultaneously making comments on this thread about the OP's and other responders BMI's without knowing their ethnicities/body types! You have also ignored the important elements that i mentioned, of what may determine someone on WLI's goal weight/BMI . People on this thread have been looking out for the OP by pointing out that a.she may have her calculations wrong and b.that other factors such as body dysmorphoa may be influencing her body image. Of course BMI is fricking relevant seeing as this is what often determines when a WLI provider will usually stop prescribing! and please note, that's often well above the lowest healthy BMI and is often MID-RANGE.

Mirabai · 20/06/2025 22:22

Because their ethnicity and build is none of our business,

I have only ever made one point about OP’s target weight: that it is in the healthy range.

It’s precisely because we don’t anything about her that no-one can it’s inappropriate for her.

soupyspoon · 21/06/2025 11:27

Just a reflection on this is that I notice on a lot of these threads that if someone is aiming for a BMI which is at the top of the healthy range, no one blinks an eyelid, quite rightly, but if someone is aiming for a BMI at the lower end or bottom of the healthy range theres a load of snooty posts with faux concern.

KrankyKumquat · 21/06/2025 11:56

@soupyspoon
Yep, it's definitely a thing here and on other SM, like Reddit. I guess it's a pushback against unhealthy eating patterns, unrealistic targets, etc. My BMI is now 20, I'm not gaunt by any stretch of the imagination despite being 58 and 5'8". In fact, I'm still completely wrinkle-free in my face. I'd be pretty pissed off if anyone said i was and put it down to sour grapes frankly. Someone above said something along the lines of we've lost track of what slim looks like as we've all just got so much bigger which seems likely - my waist is now 28", when I was a teenager in the 70s, that was considered big, now it's a size 10.

Nearly50omg · 21/06/2025 12:34

you need to go and have your bloods checked - thyroid especially!! I have hashimotos and ended up a size 26 when I was only 8.5 stone and they couldn’t get their heads round it at the time but years later when diagnosed either hashimotos the specialist says it made sense - it’s all fluid and caused by widespread inflammation

But fluid isn’t weightless, so how did that work? Not doubting you, just would like to understand.

Blondebrownorred · 17/06/2025 20:53

Not necessarily. I'm 5ft 4 and 9 stone 13 and am a size 8.

I struggle to believe that. Are we talking stretchy clothes or designer fitted dresses with zips? I could get into clothes two sizes down if it was pull on but when I’m 60kg I’m a fitted size 12 and vanity sizing 10. I have a Belstaff jacket I had a client with one as well who reckoned hers was a 14 it’s was a size 16, same as mine I saw the size. She doesn’t look a size 16, but it’s fitted tight. My uniforms of the 90s are a size 12 and 26 inch waist, they’re not like that now.

People definitely carry weight differently.

I was a size 10 at 9 stone 13 - although some of the clothes were getting a bit tight and I’m 5ft 2. I am a size 10/12 now at 10.5 stone. My best friend who is the same height and similar weight as me is the same. She’s a size 12 at 11 stone. And thinking of it I think she was a size 8/10 when she was just below 10 stone.

So yeah I can definitely see someone 5ft 4 being a size 8 at 9 stone 13.

Also I hope @stclementine has managed to get to the bottom of this!

This doesn’t make sense. Fluid still has a weight. That’s why they monitor the weight of people with heart failure etc, it allows they to check when they are getting fluid overload.

Indeed. I'm 5ft 4 and this morning weighed 9 st 11. I'm a size 8, some of which are a bit loose. I'm a powerlifter though so carry a lot of heavy muscle.

Isobel201 · 26/06/2025 17:22

Ah, you need to try and get some confidence in trying smaller sizes. I've lost a stone so far, but already noticed I've sized down in tops and even my stomach, which is the worst area. It helped though because I was sorting some out last week for my holiday.
