10mg but not losing

For the first time since starting MJ I’m getting suppression, reduced food noise and getting fuller quicker for the whole 7 days. I’m so happy that I’ve found a dose that is achieving this. However, I’m not losing weight. Have not lost weight in 7 weeks now on 10mg. I have 2 or 3 meals a day and my calories are usually around 1,000 per day on average. I’m over 16 stone so have a lot to lose. Not sure why I’m not losing weight but getting all the other benefits.

Should I go up to 12.5mg? Or am I being impatient?

Are you very certain of your calorie intake, as in weighing and measuring every single thing and working out the calories accurately? 7 weeks at 1000 calories a day should be a weekly deficit sufficient for a pound a week weight loss. Unless you are very short and unusually sedentary??

Yeah I’ve had a lifetime of practice I know the calories in everything. I weigh everything.

I have PCOS so prior to MJ I would lose nothing on 1,200 calories per day. This is how it’s always been and it’s infuriating. I know on paper I should lose weight but my body doesn’t work that way. So MJ helps me to eat 1,000 or less without feeling like I’m on a restricted diet so it helps in that way.

Last week I upped it to 1,500 and I was uncomfortably full but I read that that sometimes helped. It just made me gain 0.5lbs.

I was losing until this plateau which coincides with the 10mg. Im 5 foot 2.

Can you add in any extra exercise rather than reduce calories any lower?

SilenceInside · 14/06/2025 17:18

I don’t think moving to 12.5mg would help if you are already doing 1000 cals a day and managing on that.

Hmm this is what I was thinking too, but I find it a coincidence that I’ve not lost on this dosage but I have on the other ones.

And I could definitely do different exercises. I really don’t enjoy high intensity stuff. I go for 2 45 min walks per day with the dogs and do 30 mins of yoga daily. So I’m getting my heart rate up for 2 hours a day. I have a toddler so I’m never sat down. I know I could do different exercises but I’ve tried and failed and my routine currently is something I can sustain long-term which is my ultimate goal.

My Dd2 had this . She ate more calories in a few days , more protein more water and less on other days to try to shock her metabolism but the main thing she did was Couch to 5k . She has lost a lot since starting this . She did no exercise before this though , she felt she wanted to lose weight before she exercised because she was very heavy and at risk of injury. Good luck OP

kalokagathos · 14/06/2025 19:39

And is your diet/ calories made of good calories? It’s the quality that matters as well. So ditch beige food, UPFs, carbs, sweets

Histoscientist · 14/06/2025 19:46

I'm prediabetic and insulin resistant from a young age probably before 18. Carbs are the enemy for us unfortunately. I've just lost 2lbs in 6 days by cutting carbs and increasing protein above 80g, I was eating around 900 cals a day to lose that. Usually I lose 1lb a week but I am strict with my calories tracking everything on a food app. I don't exercise but literally started today 30mins on a cross trainer. Done mounjaro for just over 8 months now and lost 2st 10lbs and at bmi 25.6 so I'm still losing at a lower weight. Also I try to drink at least 1.5L water a day which really helps.

Summer24isRubbish · 14/06/2025 19:49

I’ve been told to try eating 30g fibre every day and 30g protein with each meal. As well as having a calorie deficit. Maybe look at what you’re eating

ExitMusic · 14/06/2025 20:24

My typical day is like this:

Greek yoghurt with a sprinkling of nuts and seeds mix, sometimes raspberries but I tend not to eat much fruit

Lunch is salad with either a tin of tuna or packet of prawns, 2 hard boiled eggs. Salad is lettuce, spinach, cucumber, pepper, grated carrot - just the usual salad stuff. I don’t have dressing usually but if I want to add more fat and calories I’ll measure out a little bit of olive oil/balsamic dressing mix or some avocado

Or I have Houmous which is measured with a sprinkle of nuts and seeds, with veg sticks

Evening meal usually is either fish or vegetarian. So a salmon or seabass fillet usually with something like Mediterranean veg. Vegetarian is usually something like chilli made with lots of veg and beans/pulses and I’d have that in a lettuce wrap.

I dont feel like I need to snack. I don’t add starchy carbs to meals as I would just get too full. I would say I eat approx 80g of protein per day. As I said before I meticulously measure and weigh everything as I know from experience how easy it is to add hidden calories in, such as mayo or oils etc.

The only thing that’s changed is the 10mg dose. This is how I’ve ate the whole time on MJ

I had a similar experience on 10mg. I think it was a plateau and I lost and gained the same 2lbs over about 10 weeks. I’ve increased protein and gone to 12.5 and am losing again, but I don’t know if that would have happened anyway if I’d stayed on 10 and the plateau passed.

You need to eat more, give it a go for a couple of weeks and see what happens

I did that for a week and gained though. As I said previously when I eat 1,200 I don’t lose - I’ve tried this for years

If you are genuinely tracking everything you should be losing. Maybe you need a visit to the gp as it's defying science and something else may be going on. Maybe a thyroid issue? I have a friend who has thyroid issues and I have seen her really struggle with weight loss

Icedcaramelfrappe · 15/06/2025 13:17

I think you should speak to your doctor, going up a dose won't help but 7 weeks of 1000 calories should surely have led to some weight loss. That must be very frustrating for you

I know on paper I should be losing. I should also lose on 1,200 calories for months but I didn’t hence starting MJ. Doctor said it was due to PCOS. I had my bloods done this earlier this year (April) and all normal

Thanks for your replies everyone. It’s extremely frustrating. I’ve went ahead and ordered a 12.5mg pen anyway to see if that makes any difference. If not I’ll go back to 10mg. I’ll speak to my GP again too

My friend had this happen for weeks on end. We went through her food diary with a fine tooth comb and it revealed nothing. Weight loss did eventually start again after she went on holiday and ate unrestricted for a week. After that it was steady. Bodies are very weird.

Right!!

I get frustrated with people, colleagues, family, HCP’s who assume I sit in my bum stuffing my face all day as I couldn’t possibly be eating a calorie deficit and not losing!

Also I think maybe this is a good reason for me to book a holiday 😆

Have you heard of the idea of safety signals? Sometimes with metabolic disorders your body will hold on to weight because it’s been kept in a state of low calories and restriction (both mental and physical health!) for too long. Sounds like it’s probably related to your pcos and you do seem to be eating really healthily. I do think eating a bit more, giving your body the safety signals that you are not in a famine etc may help. So maybe more relaxation, reading, less screens, time in nature, grounding etc! Sounds a bit hippy but I’ve found it helps me. I was eating around the same as you but losing slowly I’m safe height), but I’ve tried to implement those strategies and I’m not eating more but still losing.

That’s interesting I’ll take that on board.

Interesting I have plateaud on 10mg too! But I am not being at all strict with calories and macros etc. so mines more understandable. I think a lot of my weight loss to date kind of came from the side effects rather than strict suppression . I'm on week 5 of 10 gained a lb. l'd reordered a 10 but I've decided to use 1.5ml.of golden dose to make up to 12.5

PrincessofHyrule · 15/06/2025 13:58

0.15ml.....
