W2D1, just weighed myself and I’ve lost almost 5lbs! (4.8 to be exact). I didn’t think much was happening: I’d weighed myself on (I think) Thursday and was only down 0.8lb. So evidently something was working!

second jab today.

UglyBastardFace · 23/06/2025 09:20

Just when I thought I'd figured out the jab, it surprises me.

First 2 weeks on 2.5mg, by day 5 suppression massively waned.

Week 3, day 1 I'm snacking getting sugar cravings which is unusual as MJ usually kicks in quickly for me. Thinking its effectiveness is slipping as my body gets used to it. But on day 2 and 3, I can barely eat, feel nauseous like food will make me sick. I ate a small portion of rice and curry on day 1, I'm assuming that is what is making me nauseous.

Just when you think you've worked it all out.....

PuppyHerder · 23/06/2025 09:21

Morning everyone.
Busy week last week, but that's probably been helpful.
Just taken my third jab this morning.
So far side effects are manageable - still a little light headed in the mornings, but this seems to wear off pretty quickly once I've had something to drink.

I'm combining the jab with fasting - so try to eat in a 6 hour window. The big difference for me the the quietening of the food noise. I don't feel like I'm having to try not to eat in the evenings, it's just something that doesn't really cross my mind. Last night the effects were clearly wearing off and I was really tempted when I got home after a family party (I'd been so good during the day!) I managed to resist, but the noise was loud.

4lbs off this week, making 9lbs in total.

@PuppyHerder, I love the fasting concept but food noise made it so difficult. I’ve been doing it this last week and feel great for it.

For anyone interested in collagen, I have previously been taking marine collagen tablets. They are huge and made me queasy and tbh, I didn’t see a huge difference after 6wks. I’m wk3 of the jab and have been taking Ancient + Brave bovine collagen powder for 2wks and there’s been a very noticeable difference. My nails are growing fast, my skin feels good (look like I’ve just had a facial) but more importantly to me, my joints feel dramatically better. One of my knees was causing me a lot of issues and reduction in pain and the increased mobility has been fantastic. Losing weight may have helped too as less stress on the joint but it feels like it works better. I’m hugely impressed and it’s not often I say that about these sorts of things. Not as impressed as I am with Mounjaro, mind you, but impressed! 🤣

Crinklecat · 23/06/2025 09:38

I’m going to finish the marine collagen and move onto bovine

second jab last night, did my arm instead In a hope of getting improved suppression. Woke up hungry so suppose it didn’t work…

ChiaraMontague · 23/06/2025 09:42

W2D3 - even though I’m trying to be disciplined and only weigh myself on the morning of jab day I was feeling a bit disheartened about no loss in W1 so I did a sneaky weigh in first thing this morning and am 1.1kg down 🎉
I’m glad to see that it is working for me, maybe just slower than for others. Now I can get back to telling myself to trust the process!

I’ve been trying to prioritise protein and so far this seems to be working because my scales say weight and body fat are both down but muscle mass is the same. It’s inevitable that I’ll lose some muscle mass if I do hit target and lose 34kg but hoping to hang on to as much as I can!

I did another strength workout yesterday and spent a lot of time in the garden on Fri, Sat and Sun evenings getting some new plants in. A positive side effect of MJ seems to be that I’m much less likely to procrastinate on things.

Appetite suppression is high at the moment, I will need to find a way to keep protein and fibre up because right now a smoothie for breakfast and some toast in the evening seem to be all I fancy. Maybe as the weather cools down I will feel a bit more like eating

MissMogs · 23/06/2025 09:50

Encouraged to hear other people’s positive experiences because I still don’t think I’m feeling anything. W1D6 and no suppression. Had a massive filling lunch with family yesterday with lots of protein and brown rice, and still couldn’t stop myself having McDonald’s with them later and had to really try hard not to eat before bed. High protein breakfast this morning and it’s barely been a couple of hours and I’m starving and really want my usual crisps and chocolate. Drinking loads of water too hoping that’ll fill me up.
I’m still reluctant to increase to 5 because of a driving holiday, but feels such a waste of money to spend so much and feel no benefit for 2 months! Not to mention disheartening and so so bloody hard when I really hoped this would be the thing that helped…I think the only thing stopping me eating my usual food right now is the money I’ve spent so feel I ought to give it my best shot at dieting!

Shwingbada · 23/06/2025 09:56

When is your holiday @MissMogs ?
You could get a 5 pen and just use 2.5 the week of the holiday if you needed to (although you might find the side effects aren't too bad). At Asda it's only £10 more.

RussianDoll76 · 23/06/2025 10:04

week 1 day 2 Absolutely amazed my stomach didn’t react immediately I have ibs-d and everything goes straight through usually. Strangely sorry if it’s tmi but I’ve had 2 normal 💩’s. One before bed and 1 this morning . I can’t remember how many years ago that happened so this is feeling like a very good SE for me. Woke up with a very painful neck and shoulders muscular but also tender to touch. I’ve been googling seems it’s a SE too. So have had some electrolytes will see how I fair. Not feeling much suppression wise but not massively hungry just picked yesterday, ham fruit and I confess crisps . Off to the shops to get some healthy food in . Happy Monday June jabbers x

I leave literally the day after I’d be taking the first dose of the new pen. So can see how the other weeks on this dose go (someone below said week 2 was better), but I’m scared to take something new then be on the road for so many hours! It’s a driving holiday so won’t just be the first day so delaying jab also not an option. How would you just do a 2.5 dose on a 5 pen? If I could do that it would be great as I could then switch to 5 once home (it’s only a 2 week holiday) Thank you!

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 23/06/2025 10:35

I had the tiniest slice of coffee cake yesterday and have a bad stomach today. First sweet thing (apart from fruit) I’ve eaten

Inyournewdress · 23/06/2025 10:37

@wheretheheckissummer sorry to hear you had such a bad night! Hope you feel better soon. I know it’s easy to say but try to keep hopeful as I have heard side effects very often pass quite quickly once your body adjusts.

I am doing ok so far although have a very dry mouth and throat. Not sure if any suppression, I think a bit but not hugely.

Shwingbada · 23/06/2025 10:38

@MissMogs you just count the clicks - when you twist the pen for a full dose there are 60 clicks, so for a half dose you do 30. You can apparently count them and if you go too far you can click back so it's not too stressful! Some people actually mark the place on the pen with a marker so they can do it more easily the next time. It also means you can stagger the dose, so do 3.75 (45 clicks) before going up to 5.

That sounds just what I need! Bit apprehensive about not following instructions though. Has anyone else on here tried this method? How did it go?

Shwingbada · 23/06/2025 10:58

Doctors sometimes prescribe it like this. Lots of information on YouTube if you Google it, as well as on other threads on Mumsnet. We're all mostly still on the first pen so everyone is new to it.

@Crinklecat its fairly normal to wake up hungry though. Surely that’s fine as long as you have healthy breakfast? I don’t want to never be hungry.

Shwingbada · 23/06/2025 11:02

This guy is very clear and methodical. Not sure if this is the video I was thinking of but I'm sure he will cover the clicks here.

I’m going into week 6 tomorrow and haven’t had any side effects or much suppression at all, even after taking 4mg last week., I still eat a snack in the evening but I have grapes or a banana instead - still sweet but much better for me. I do this every night without fail, and I’ve still lost a stone in my first month.

Gingercar · 23/06/2025 11:09

Ps, I think if you’re not getting 100% suppression and are having to slightly rely on your willpower and new healthy eating as well it’s a good thing that will probably be really helpful at the end of this journey.

I would prefer to be one of those with no appetite. I’m still drinking as much wine as usual and was counting on that to offset the cost as I really can’t afford to be on it long

flameprincess · 23/06/2025 11:42

W4D1 - I'm on 2.5mg and continuing that into second month, the supression comes and goes, I'd say I've had 1 day per week where it has waned and I've felt ravenous. I have found on the days where I don't have supression it's quite shocking how much it impacts my mental health and self worth. Almost like now I've experienced what not obsessing over food feels like, the days where I don't have that relief feel almost worse? I've seen what normal people feel like and on the days the obsession creeps back — it makes me almost angry with myself?

Anyway, regardless, I have managed to power through and lost 4kg so far on the 2.5mg and minimal side effects, I'd like to think if I can cope with those days 10% of the time it will serve me better when I come off the jabs (which is already a scary prospect at this point seeing how much better they make me feel 90% of the time)

Thanks just had a couple more hours sleep and I feel a bit better now. It’s just made me really scared to take the 2nd jab on Saturday. I work in the week and can’t be having sick days all the time. I have spoken to my husband and I think I’m going to do the next jab on Friday evening then I have the whole weekend to deal with any side effects, but hopefully I’m over the worst of them now.

Pleased to hear that your not struggling with side effects, hope this continues for you x

Do you like G&T? Because I 'treat' myself with slimline tonic and a slice of lemon - wine is my nemesis also, and feeling like I am having 'a drink' is a crutch I need after a shitty week. It doesn't taste materially different without the gin.
