I found this interesting article from a couple of days ago about the state of the planning for the intended roll out of prescribing Mounjaro via the NHS, which looks to be a total shambles according to the article! Most ICBs are not prepared and don't have any kind of a plan yet despite being meant to have a plan in place by the end of June.

Week 16, 7.5mg

SW 19st 4lbs (Jan 2025, pre-MJ)
SW on MJ 18st 8lbs (1 Mar 2025)
CW 16st 7.75lbs
Loss this week 2.5lb

Total loss 38.25lbs

Interim GW (set by Nutracheck!) 15st 8lbs

And despite BMI being bobbins, as we know, I’ve reduced mine by 6 points.

Waist is down by about 6 inches, bra band down by 4 inches.

It’s working!

I had a meds review yesterday, GP asked me how I’m doing on the Mounjaro, and was fine about it. Which is brilliant and reassuring.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/06/2025 12:53

@AlicesMum2025

I lost a great deal to start with.
I think it was 15lb in my first week.

Then it steadily got less each week.

After I lost the first four stone, which didn't take very long, it started to really slow down. I finally got to seven stone lost and it's just very, very slow now.

I'm losing half a pound a week, and I've got two stone and a bit left to lose.

I honestly wouldn't worry about the speed of your loss. We're all different.

As long as I'm still losing I'm happy.

I am completely addicted to Whatnot 😂 just received a load of parcels today and I felt the adrenaline rush. I'm trying to quit, but I can't quite do it.

Dashes off to look up Whatnot...

Feeling a bit deflated and angry. Had a hospital appointment yesterday. Gynaecology, not anything weight related.
She made a comment that if I need surgery my weight make it dangerous. I said I was aware of that and had started taking mounjaro. She asked how long I had been on it and I said 4 and half weeks. She replied " you should have started it a long time ago!" . I responded that I'd been waiting for s referal on the nhs for nearly 2 years and was now paying for it privately . Sheasked how much weight I'd lost, I said 10 pounds in 4 weeks and her response was " you will have to try harder!".
I was really shocked. Whe I left i came up with lots of responses I wish I jad used, bit at the time my mind was just blank.
Ive been thinking about it all night.

Fuck her @Weightlossprincess. How dare she make someone who is already feeling vulnerable feel even worse. The gynaecologist clearly comes from a place of having no idea what it's like to be obese and why people are. I'm really annoyed for you.

AlicesMum2025 · 11/06/2025 11:41

@Weightlossprincess what a bitch! Sorry for the language, but where does she get off being so fucking rude. If she wanted to give you health advice she should have done in it a supportive way. Like you, I wouldn't have known what to say at the time 🤬

On the subject of surgery though, I had to have a plate and screws put in my ankle and the anaesthetist didn't bat an eyelid about my weight. He just said that all anaesthesia has a risk and that they operated on people larger than me all the time (size 26). Granted this was emergency surgery not elective, but it's total BS that high weight is a risk factor on its own.

Same with me @AlicesMum2025 - I had two surgeries on my ankle last year after a fracture/dislocation, and the surgeon said the same to me. I was more worried about how the paramedics were going to get me off the floor and into the ambulance, but they had this wowzers hydraulic chair! That said, it was partly the surgeries/accident that made me determined to do this - I literally couldn't fit in a wheelchair while I was in rehab, it was so humiliating.

So no, it's not ideal to be obese during surgery, and several people on here have experience of being told that they can't get the surgery they need for that reason - but it seems to be quite subjective according to the surgeon involved doesn't it? They are human beings, even if they forget that sometimes, and have their own prejudices and realities/bad experiences.

Motnight · 11/06/2025 13:12

I have lost another lb this week. Keeping on keeping on! I would loved to get to my 6 stone loss before the end of July.

Interesting, I’m the other ankle surgery afflicted person on here and they refused to do mine under a GA. The surgeon was fine but the anaesthetist not. I had a BMI of 48 at the time and I do also have sleep apnoea so maybe that was it? It wasn’t an emergency situation so maybe that was also a factor. It was totally humiliating as I was supposed to have it under my private medical insurance and the hospital refused me in a face to face meeting the day before my op was all scheduled and were not kind…. I had to be referred back into the NHS, wait again and go miles away. I had a spinal block and had to be awake which was a bit traumatic and a big push for me starting this journey.

Anyway, my point is that it’s all so inconsistent and the way we are sometimes spoken to is so unnecessary.

I'm sorry that happened to you, @ConfusedMiddleAger83 - that must have been so embarrassing. I'm sure it's different when it's elective and not emergency, and your sleep apnoea may well have contributed (that was one of the things they always asked me about.) My BMI at the time of mine was similar to yours (just under 48). I think as you say it is the inconsistency that is bewildering, and also the rudeness of what happened to @Weightlossprincess - there is simply no need to be so rude and dismissive. If we were all perfect, and nobody was overweight, smoked, drank, played sport or ever did anything that put them at risk, then a lot of doctors would be out of work. We all deserve some compassion and understanding.

Povertytrapped · 11/06/2025 11:40

hmmm @SilenceInside, that's disappointing as I'm on v low income and no way can I find £ for even the low dose each month. I was considered pre-diabetic a while back, but I don't know whether that still applies. Guess I'll just go the GP and see what they say and take it from there...but it doesn't sound promising does it...

At the moment a GP can only prescribe if you are T2 diabetic. Unfortunately pre diabetic doesn’t qualify. Just don’t want you to get your hopes up.

Don't do it, I've been on there for six hours now!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 11/06/2025 18:16

I’m also a fast loser, so I never post my stats on here. I sometimes post how much I’ve lost that week and how much I’ve lost overall but without giving dates etc. I don’t want to make others feel bad but also I read on another thread that anyone who says they lose loads each week is either lying or starving themselves. I’m not doing either! I also read lots of people saying that fast losers will have terrible saggy skin and lose all their hair etc, which does worry me though I seem to be ok so far! 🤞

TragicMuse · 11/06/2025 18:27

I bought 2 new dresses, they are TOO BIG!

Going to reorder and get a smaller size!

Also, my boss brought doughnuts they were nest to me all day and I didn’t eat one. Didn’t really want one. WINNING!

eibbed999 · 11/06/2025 18:36

Well done @TragicMuse, on both the dresses and the doughnuts (I'm sure there might be a connection between the two...)

I have just ordered some swimming costumes. They have always been my nemesis. I could be anything from a 16 to a 28 if past years are to go by. I'm trying a tankini to avoid the usual contortionist tricks I have to pull to get into a cossie.

TragicMuse · 11/06/2025 18:43

I have a tankini I’m looking forward to wearing again @eibbed999 can’t wait till it fits again!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/06/2025 18:47

DD and I decided to go swimming every week and I hadn't had a costume for fifteen years or more.
I trawled through Vinted and didn't want to spend much, so I settled on a size 18 one.

It's too big! But it'll do for now.
🤣

This is so dreadful

My experience with all the department consultants I was in contact with during a recent prolonged hospital stay was really positive in fact the Nephrology consultant went as far as adding to my discharge notes that he believes I should be prescribed MJ under the NHS

If I were in your position I’d be tempted to contact PALS who then have to investigate, the days of medical staff speaking to patients like that are long gone, nothing may come of it but it will give her an uncomfortable time just as she made you feel uncomfortable

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/06/2025 19:42

@Weightlossprincess in early 2019 I saw a surgeon with regard to a procedure which she agreed I needed.

I weighed 20st.

She told me to come back when I weighed 10st. She was very dismissive and rude to me.

Well, not long after that the pandemic started. So even if I'd lost 10st I couldn't have had the surgery.

Now, I'm nearly at the magical 10st so I'm going to have another assessment.

I told my GP to refer me to someone else this time. There's no reason why we should have to tolerate bias and abusive behaviour on the part of some doctors.

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 11/06/2025 20:11

I would contact PALS too @Weightlossprincess

What the hell is the point in berating you for doing the positive thing? Or for losing around the recommended average loss per week? She needs to understand that her views and comments are out-of-date and unacceptable.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/06/2025 20:13

Anyway, doctors aren't supposed to recommend rapid weight loss!
It isn't healthy.

I just took my dresses back and re-ordered them in the next size down. I originally got XL which is a 20-22. It was good but very stretchy and too big and will only get bigger.

so I’ve gone for large. Which is a 16-18. I do not normally wear 16 or 18. Not yet. But there’s enough stretch in it to accommodate my waist now and down for another 4-5 inches. So all summer!

I really dithered but I’m glad I’ve chosen to do it. Also, they’re REALLY LONG! I’m 5’7” but it’s floor length on me. I’ll need to shorten them a little I think. But that’s relatively easy.

I’m really excited!

Weightlossprincess · 11/06/2025 22:38

Thanks ladies, feel better after my rant and all your kind words. My sister offered to go and do a pool in her handbag 🤣

GnomeDePlume · 12/06/2025 06:10

That's the spirit @Weightlossprincess the gynecologist is a disgrace. I do wonder if some HCPs skip the 'how to talk to patients' lessons.

WafflingDreamer · 12/06/2025 06:17

I'll try to catch up with the thread later, just dropping this weeks details as I'm helping out at DDs school today.

Weigh in number 36
SW 21st 9lb (BMI 44.7)
CW 16st 6lb (BMI 34.0)
GW 11st 9lb (BMI 24.1)
3lb down this week
Losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1, +3, 5, 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 1, 1, 3, 1, 1, 3, 3, 1, 1, 0, 2, 3, 1, 2, 2, 0, 1, 3
Total loss 73lbs / 5st 3lb
Over half way now, its actually quite nice to see the number to lose being less than what I've lost. I'm hoping as I get my BMI down towards 30 and lose more fat my body will start to change more. What is amazing is I don't ever worry about being too fat for stuff or breaking things or not fitting in a space.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 12/06/2025 06:56

Well done @WafflingDreamer

I’ve just weighed in and I’m 4lbs down this week and my bmi has dropped into the 30s!
