I have seemed to have reached some kind of noticeability tipping point. Over the last few days I have been actively taken aside by several different people specifically to comment on my weight loss. Work colleagues, acquaintances, people I’ve briefly chatted to at school pick up… I am finding it quite intense at the moment. Especially as most of the conversations have been very public with lots of other people able to listen in. I find it disconcerting that people who don’t normally talk to me (which is fine) seem to now want to talk to me.

Is anyone else getting frequent comments, if you are more than half way to your target?

I have used it before last year and was losing 10 pounds a week. Maybe

Why did you stop, then?

My husband is younger than me by eight years. He's also very fit and has always looked after himself - irritating! I am looking forward to meeting people he knows and being introduced without me feeling crap about myself, like I am embarrassing him, or like the person is hiding their shock! (disclaimer: I know some of that is imaginary, but as @PinkArt says, it will be nice to not always be the biggest person in the room!) Also, and this undoubtedly makes me a Very Bad Human, but honestly I am also looking forward to being around people who I know have judged me and made me feel crap about myself in the past, and looking FANTASTIC. The ultimate revenge! Hope I haven't jinxed myself there...

Doesn’t make you a very bad human at all, I don’t have any sort of relationship with my mother but there’s this little devil sat on my shoulder saying to me ‘wouldn’t it be great to see her just the once so she can see that you didn’t fail’.
I wouldn’t do it though, even after all these years and she’s 78, I’m still terrified of her.
a school reunion would be a good one, but I don’t think I’d want to go back there either! It’d be like a scene from Carrie 🤣

Why did you stop, then?

Not really any of your business. I had to pay for cancer treatment for my pet and that took up all the money. Unfortunately it didn’t work. I have the money to afford it now but would rather have him back

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/06/2025 19:26

Yes, I am. I'm about three quarters of the way to my target and lots of people are noticing and commenting.

I'm looking forward to staying with a friend in London next month. We haven't seen one another since 2019, and I weighed over 20st then.

Actually, that visit to London was when I finally gave up smoking, now I come to think of it.

Honestly, it's a wonder I'm still alive. At least I didn't drink. Well, just a very occasional sherry.
🤣

@lilacbreeze I am one of those that “only” lose 1lb-2lb a week, even at the end of week 1 had a 2lb loss but I didn’t drink alcohol or fizzy pop or eat several takeaways a week so no major diet changes. I am though insulin resistant with PCOS and diabetes but after 10 weeks of 1 or 2lb I’ve lost 1stone 2lb, I’m in the next stone bracket and dropped almost 3 BMI points so I can’t be disappointed with that!

Jeez lilacbreeze, zaicandy, namechangeMJ, or whatever else you decide to call yourself next. You're really not doing yourself any favours are you. Is there really any need to be so rude??

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/06/2025 19:31

I have used it before last year and was losing 10 pounds a week.

So if this was the case @lilacbreeze why did you comment about losing a pound a week not being worth it?

Some people are very slow responders, but any loss is to be celebrated, surely?

I have had a lot recently at just over 5 1/2 stone down, there seems to be three camps, those who stop and you see a quick glance and know what they are thinking but then they want to have a normal non weight loss conversation. Those that shout out loud “oh my god you’ve lost so much weight!” And then the more subtle ones who say to me that I look lovely and am doing so well, no one has asked me how, but I think I tend to get in quick with saying that I’m 5:2 fasting.
Im not at all embarrassed by the comments though and they don’t make me feel uncomfortable, I quite like them.

But if you were on it before, why all the questions about starting MJ?

Because I am starting it after a long break and presumably may have less of a loss now as people are saying. It has likely worn out my system now

Billybingbong · 24/06/2025 19:39

Haha, my DH has just told me my face is falling off. That's his flimsy way of complimenting my progress, the daft numpty 🤣🤣

TragicMuse · 24/06/2025 19:41

Your story makes no sense @lilacbreeze You’re nervous about starting and asking questions like a newbie, now you say you’ve done it before. Which is it?

I’m not sure why you’re being so combative and rude. That’s not how we roll on this thread. We lift each other up EVERY time.

We welcome new friends, but so far all you’ve done is belittle us. What are you trying to achieve here? What’s your end-game?

alternatively, you could engage properly and

Yes, every time. We know how easy it is to get discouraged. We know what it feels like to be extremely obese.

We help one another. We don't argue or throw insults about.

I don't know why zaicandy/lilacbreeze is even on here. Their story changes all the time.

SMH.

Exactly, especially as on another thread they said we were like a cult, and it was the nastiest thread on MN. I hate confrontation, but had to call this one out. This thread is not the place for that kind of nonsense. This is our safe place, and doesn't need ruining by trolls

PloopDeck · 24/06/2025 20:18

@WafflingDreamer

If you told me 39 weeks ago that I could pay you £1100 to lose 5st I'd have done it.

This x

Oh really? We were called a cult?

FFS. There's nothing cultish about this thread. We're just a bunch of very overweight ladies who are supporting one another.

I have not been on this thread before. I just thought asking why I stopped before a year ago was quite nosy and rude. In my case it was a death but it could be for any personal reason. It’s not the done thing to ask. I am back on the thread because I last used over a year ago; the weight went back on and I now have 10.5 stone to lose again before I reach nine stone.

lilacbreeze · 24/06/2025 20:25

Side effects will begin again as the meds are long out my system. I was not on MN last time and didn’t realise there were threads of people on the same thing. Also on GRN

lilacbreeze · 24/06/2025 20:27

I don’t think it is a cult at all. Hardly the Scientologists 🤣
