I’m now 3lbs off a 9stone loss. Been on MJ for 13 months and haven’t even felt like pigging out once after 30 years of yo yo diets.
So inspiring to hear everyone’s stories. The toilet roll analogy is spot on as losing at a larger weight took ages for anyone to notice.

That's absolutely amazing I'm 9 months on mj and 3 pounds of a 7 stone loss .
Are you scared for when you have to come off mj
I'm a bit anxious about it ,I need to stop reading anything negative about People coming of it

TragicMuse · 17/06/2025 11:05

@Bulldogsummer Would you feel at all comfortable with a personal shopper session? I had one last year at John Lewis and it was such a joyful experience. Truly. She was lovely and she just brought loads of things for me to try. Some worked and some didn’t but it completely changed my self-image. And showed me what I could wear confidently.

It was revelatory.

I’m going to book another in a few months!

Alternative would be something like Next - they are absolutely smashing it in summer wear at the moment (I could spend hundreds in there!) AND their sizing is sensible, not visible tiny while masquerading as an XL. If you can get to one they also still have fitting rooms…

All solidarity. It’s a puzzle and I hope you find your best solution.

Bulldogsummer · 17/06/2025 11:20

Thankyou @TragicMuse ..yes there is a next near me .
I'm not sure I'm an actual size 22 yet ,I think I've a few more pounds to go before I can be sure a22 will fit.
I thought that next sizes above 22 were all yours anyway,so I didn't bother
Again I haven't been in store ,as I'm not quite a 22 ,and from past experience I found lots of shops don't even stock a size 22

Bulldogsummer · 17/06/2025 11:26

I've got some kaftan type clothes from my bigger days that I've kept and I'm hoping to use on holiday..I need to try them on at some point ..
My daughter says to me ..that she knows the baggy look is in ..but I'm taking it to the extreme..
So yesterday she went in to Sainsbury's and bought me two pairs of XL women's pj,telling me they will 100% fit ,and to throw out my ridiculously huge ones ..
They are still in the bag ..I've not tried them on
This getting smaller business ,is not giving me the joy I thought it would .
I felt invisible bigger ,as Im getting smaller I don't feel so invisible.
It's an odd feeling

GnomeDePlume · 17/06/2025 11:36

DD has lost a similar amount and has said similar about becoming more 'visible' also not entirely comfortable with it.

I've lost less so far but enjoying the 'medical' benefit of being able to say 'yes, I am doing something about my weight'.

Got a dermatology appointment today, if the next step is surgery now is the perfect time as I have loose skin!

Bulldogsummer · 17/06/2025 11:55

Hope your appointment today goes well @GnomeDePlume

Everdecreasingcircle · 17/06/2025 12:02

Thanks @Bulldogsummer .
Yes maintenance is a huge worry for me. I’m planning on staying on MJ for a good while anyway and will come down in strengths when have reached goal weight. What do you plan to do ?

I have found coming to terms with my smaller
body very difficult. Thought it would all just be wonderful and be so happy I am normal sized. It does take time I suppose to adjust but it has been weird and a bit unsettling looking at a different person in the mirror.

NK77 · 17/06/2025 12:55

Hi all,
I took my first dose of MJ today.
23st and hoping for a 10st loss.
Im 48 and want to get as much off as possible before the menopause hits.

I wanted to ask about double chin loss, as i have one, im worried that my skin wont ping back and i'll have skin jowls. Wondered if anyone had any experience of losing face weight, and if chin does spring back or you end up with hanging flaps. No idea why this is worrying me but it is :(

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 17/06/2025 13:30

Wow! This is incredible to read of 7 and 9 stone losses! Huge well done. I am so hopeful this will be me by the end of the year too :)

Hope your appointment is okay @GnomeDePlume
@NK77 - Yay for the first dose - hope you have a good first few weeks and not too many side effects.
I'm trying to do a similar loss. So far I'm 4 stone this year (and 5 stone total) down so 17st 10 from 22st 10 and my face quite quickly looked less ""puffy". I can see in pictures it looks better already. I suspect I will have some loose skin eventually on my chin(s) tbh but it isn't going to be "hanging flaps" I don't think. Its starting to look that way already on my arms so I think long term I'm accepting (or trying to) that arms/thighs/stomach may well "hang" but at least they can be covered!

I had a midweek weigh today as I am SO close to not being "morbid" but not quite yet... it will be soon though :)

PinkArt · 17/06/2025 13:49

@NK77 Being left with a Miss Marple chin was one of my worries but surprisingly my chins are shrinking down nicely. There is still volume there but I don't seem to be left with loose skin from the fat that's gone so far. Alas my thighs are currently suffering from what the November staters group refers to as the melted candle look.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 17/06/2025 14:00

I didn't find I started to lose clothes sizes until about 3 1/2 stone down - then I've dropped a few fairly quickly - but I suspect I'd worn stuff too big for fear of it not fitting and not wanting to return it for a long while.

At the moment I've got a wrinkly neck but not jowls, I'm down to 1.5 chins, my bingo wings are now morphing into loose skin and my stomach overhang is still more stomach than loose skin but likely to head that way soon, but my thighs seem to be behaving so far. Unfortunately my one swollen calf is still significantly bigger than its peer but that's going to be a bugger to sort out according to the GP (it's lymphoedema and I've had it for years)

No idea yet ,the bmi for normal weight came as a bit of a shock to me , because I started at such a very high weight,I'm concerned about loose skin .
None so far ,but I've still quite a way to go yet .
I think I'm probably going to stop at a size 16 ..which seems tiny to the current me.
I don't know if I will be allowed to do maintenance at that size ..
If I'm not showing signs of loose skin ,I might try to go lower if I can .
The thought of being a size 16 feels like something completely unachievable,in that I've never been that low as an adult

Winkle neck here too.i forgot about that when I said no loose skin yet

I'll admit I was expecting much much worse by the 5 stone mark. DH lost about 3 stone when he was finally diagnosed with sleep apnea and he's got a right melty belly effect going on. Considering my genetics gave me the square jaw and Bruce Forsyth chin from hell combo - I'll take any positive they left me with happily!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 17/06/2025 15:39

Amazing @Bulldogsummer and @Everdecreasingcircle on phenomenal weight losses!
re clothes, I think I’ll be spending this summer in denim cut off shorts and t-shirts. I have bought a few cheap things as (hopefully) nothing I buy will stay in the wardrobe for longer than a couple of months.
Matalan is good for cheap dresses and are very generous in their sizing and have plenty of 22s in the shop, I’ll buy Next second hand, just bought a 2nd hand monsoon dress today from Vinted. Another, depending on style is bonmarche, there are some really nice younger looking summer clothes, I always associated bonmarch with my MIL, but it’s worth a look. I feel like I’m now constantly recycling clothes as everything becomes to big very quickly - not complaining though!

weigh day for me, another 2.5lbs off, whoop whoop.

Bulldogsummer · 17/06/2025 16:22

I'm just finding as well ,I don't even know what I like clothes wise ,or at 52 what I should wear .I see something I like ,and then think ...would I actually wear it out of the house ,the answer is always no.
I like the stripy trousers on ticktok and gingham dresses..but I feel to old.
I don't know what's in fashion for 50 year old woman..the things I like are being worn by 20 something's.
Before I just wore what I had in ,I'd been a size 32 a very long time ,so I had a full wardrobe to choose from.
Now my draws and wardrobe are empty ,and I'm going to have to buy some clothes for the summer..

SilenceInside · 17/06/2025 16:34

I don’t think there should be rules for what someone at X age should wear, even if most media and social media seems to insist on it. Wear the striped trousers and gingham dresses if you like them!

TorturedParentsDepartment · 17/06/2025 16:45

I'm struggling with clothes at the moment too - I'm very much tending to buy a couple of pairs of jeans in whatever size stays up and then random tops I've made or bought from charity shops. Thank god our work "no jeans" dress code is diligently ignored by everyone in the community!

I bought size 24 jeans but they were mom fit and I slimmed through them quite rapidly so they started looking baggy around the arse and knees - they're now hemmed up as denim shorts and I'm wearing size 22 bootcut ones like I'm 16 again - have some size 20 and 18s I picked up mega reduced that I'll switch in when they start to get baggy again and that should keep me going until I get right into normal sized stuff. No idea what suits me anymore! I've worn just what fitted and I had - usually until the point it fell apart - that having choice is just bonkers for me.

FattyBumBumNoMore · 17/06/2025 17:04

I’ve very much been an avid reader of this thread and everyone’s amazing losses, so thought I’d post to get your thoughts.

I’m 3 stone down and hit a brick wall of a plateau. It’s been there for about 3/4 weeks now and I can honestly say, it’s soul destroying. For those who’ve been there, have you just ridden it out or would you suggest a binge day or two to try and trigger my body to acknowledge I’m not starving myself to oblivion? I know I’m doing all the right things still; it’s the disappointment of the scales I’m battling in my head. My worry is that I’ll enjoy the blowout, put on weight and leave myself in a worse position. Aaargh, what to do??!!!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/06/2025 17:07

@Bulldogsummer I'm nearly 69 and I've discovered some glorious clothes.

I'm a size 14 now, after 18 months.

It doesn't seem possible.

And having stuck at 12st 12lb for three weeks, I've gone down to 12st 11lb today.

My weightloss has got very slow but it's getting there.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/06/2025 17:09

@FattyBumBumNoMore the one thing which gets me off a plateau is OMAD.

I drink lots of tea and water throughout the day, eat dinner at about 16.30, then nothing until the next day at 16.30.

OP posts:
TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/06/2025 17:11

I actually think that another way to get off a plateau would be to fast for 24 hours. Carry on drinking fluids but no food.

I haven't tried it though.

Thanks @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne i assume that’s one meal a day? I fast every day 16:8 but actually that sounds like good advice to push it further and something that feels more comfortable to me than a full blow out day. Will certainly try that out, thank you

I only do it for three days max.
